TIMELESS LOVE Series Book 1 A STITCH IN TIME By Susette Williams Book 2 THE PORTAL By Cynthia Hickey Book 3 THE RIGHT TIME FOR LOVE By Tina Dee Book 4 FOR THE LOVE OF LIBERTY By Heather Blanton Book 5 MELODY’S NEXT CHRISTMAS By George McVey
TRAVELING BACK IN TIME This story kept me captivated and allowed the reader to question, what would life have been like going back one hundred years. What happens after having a long talk with her grandmother, and falling asleep wrapped in a hundred-year-old quilt stitched by a great-great grandmother.....and waking up to 1904? How do you react when you discover you have gone back in time, now have two younger sisters. This is a series and needs to be read in order. I can't wait to see what happens to Lizzie next. She won't just be hearing about history, she will live it.
This is a charming romantic adventure that employs a sweet and simple method of time travel. I won't give the method away and spoil your fun.
If you're not fond of, or need a break from steamy-hot romances and pow-kablam over the top time travel, take a deep cleansing breath, roll your shoulders back, make a cup of tea and relax with Susette Williams' likeable characters as they cope with an absurd situation. The book is a novella, so you'll finish the adventure in an evening or two. And yes, you'll get a happy ending.
This book is so good! I absolutely enjoyed it! I loved the characters they were well developed and defined. The story captivated me and pulled me in. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I felt like I was apart of this story and I highly recommend it.
Great Premise, Average Execution (3.8 Stars) A 28-year-old single, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Ruth Peterson is finishing a visit with her Great Grandma Mullane and her Grandma Bader. Both Grands have grilled her concerning her rejection of various suitors, which they believe will leave Lizzie too old to have children, reminiscent of her Great-Great-Grandmother. GG Mullane and G Bader give Lizzie her GG Grandmother’s handmade quilt as an incentive and reminder to settle on a serious boyfriend, future husband. Lizzie asks for the story behind the quilt. It seems the quilt was a remembrance of her GG Grandmother’s time at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, about Jeremiah, the “love of her life,” a love which didn’t have a happy ending. Lizzie questions why there was not happy ending, and was surprised her Grandmother couldn’t tell her. It seems her mother started crying, and shortly died before she could finish her story. Grandmother said her story was lost. Lizzie falls asleep under the heirloom quilt and wakes up in 1904 in the family home of her Grand, the maker of the quilt. That is the jumping off point of the story.
What I Appreciated: I liked the ambiguity concerning her dream. Was her experiences in 1904 a life-like dream or did she actually experience 1904? It seems to me that time-travel and similar genre are based on the concept of a folktale or fairy-tale. This indirectness worked to build the TT concept. Elizabeth Ruth Ambrewster’s 1904 little sisters, Mary Margaret and Olivia are just darling. When Lizzie walks up in 1904, she finds them starring at her with big smiles. Right away she notices the unusual dress styles of the sisters, such as puffy sleeves, weird collar, a dress tie that is not attached at the waist or collar, but at hip level. Lizzie in her time is an only children and you see her relationship warm page by page toward the little sisters. I liked the train travel, having grown up in cities with viable commuter trains. Also, reading about the St. Louis World Fair caused me to research the details concerning the fair. Thought provoking.
What I Felt Diminished the Read for me: I understand that waking up in another home with people you do not know would be absolutely jarring, but her disrespect of her elders (Father & Mother) did not work for me. I thought that as she adjusted to life in 1904, her attitude would change, but she never acted like a “real daughter” to her parents. Yes, the father was very harsh, but rather typical of the time. She also brought many of her independent attitudes with her from the future into the past, acting as a disrupt to the story. I found it far-fetched that Jeremiah Hopkins was so laissez-faire about time travel. My last frustration was with the ending. Great idea, but way to abrupt. It should have been developed. Also, 1904 story period could have been expanded with additional episodes that grew the 1904 relationships and heightened the sorrow. I read this book book twice. Once, a year ago and my response at the end of the read was frustration. I didn’t write a review, as I wasn’t feeling charitable. But on a second read, I could appreciate the story at a higher-star-level. Final Reflection: This book is worth the time to read and may even nudge you to do additional research on 1904.
This is such a nice, clean story. It has good characters and a good plot. Beautifully written and read. Lizzie thought it was a dream 100 years in the past and met a guy at The World's Fair. What a wonderful look at the St. Louis World's Fair through the eyes of a time traveler. Lizzie's character is well written and we get to see 1904 through her eyes. Thoroughly enjoyed this short love story by a super writer. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the author. Opinions are my own.
A stitch in time, this book has good characters and a good plot a look back into Victorian Days when women lived under more constraints than women have now. It is well written and has a surprise ending . Looking forward to the the next book in this Timeless Love series
A clean refreshing book. Loved how things from last were detailed. Was getting sad at ending then pleasantly surprised and loved the end. Would love to read more about what could happen.
Everything about this story is wonderful from the storyline to the narrator. It made me smile and cry and smile again. A gem of a story. I received a complimentary audio and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Do you ever have weird dreams that bring you back to a date and time, because of events that occurred when you were talking with your family? This is what this story is about. This is my honest review for me to give my review.
DNF. Written for teen girls and YA. Not at all what I was expecting. I couldn't finish it. Once I got interrupted at Ch 7, I couldn't force myself to go back to it.
I started this backwards. I have already read Melody's next Christmas then I saw this was the first in the series so I downloaded it. To be honest I wasn't sure at the beginning because it's the first time I came across Susette William's work, and I am glad I kept reading, hopeful it would get better because it did. I liked her writing style it is quite different so much excitement amazing character very well written. The ending of the past time really broke my heart wasn't expecting that. Great book I would recommend it, looking forward to check her other work too.
I had the honor to review this book for the author. Elizabeth's life completely changes after she received the quilt from her grandmother. When she goes to sleep and wakes up her life is completely different. I can't wait for the next book.
Listened to the audio book and loved it! The story had me so drawn in with great characters and plot. I love this time travel story with so much history about the worlds fair. The romance was so beautiful and the story shows how much that is missed into days world. The narrator added to the story with her relaxing voice that made the story so entrancing.
