This book was a letdown. His journals were lost and instead we only have letters sent to his sister during the war.
But he didn't want to upset her with the realities of the combat he experienced, so there's nothing more than brief summaries of battles or skirmishes.
Wybourn also served in charge of marines aboard a frigate and other vessels. He does not provide any information of what the duties of the marines were. He informs his sister of several captures his ship made but never mentions if it involved any gunfire or the roles of his marines in boarding any of the prizes.
Unfortunately, of the four admirals mentioned in the title, Wybourn had little to no involvement with these leaders and was just one of the marines in their fleets.
If you want to read about touring and partying whenever Wybourn went ashore, censored accounts of these experiences are the bulk of this book.
