Albion bleeds, its people suffer, its capital in ruins and still the war that put an end to the Skavite rebellion threatens the fabric of Albion civilisation. The army of the free democratic government march north against their king, determined to end the royal line forever. Duke Benedict heads the king's army in a desperate attempt to save the royalist cause and way of life. Who will prevail in this bloody civil conflict? The second book of Devastation will settle once and for all the age-old argument of the rule of Albion, electoral representation or divine right.
Daniel D Longdon has been writing for a number of years and his first book 'Devastation' is doing well. Retribution is the sequel to Devastation and continues on with the peoples army led by Jason fighting the Scav hourde that refuses to quit. Now that the War has escalated the Government have to take the threat seriously aswell as the Royals.
Different characters from all sides are involved and featured with their viewpoints being show cased whether their good or bad. The Scavs are the extreme versions of todays chavs that want to be able to do what they want with no consequences. There is graphic drug use, violence and rape featured which doesn't bother me but might some. Jason isn't so prominant in this book as Devastation but he is still a much loved and respected leader with the future in mind and vengeance fueling his need to continue. The addition of the Royals was exciting with jealous power plays and manipulation.
One of my favourite moments in the book, the wording is beautiful and just stands out to me: "Jobe had trained for years and enjoyed the thrill that taking a life gave him. Now he went to work and his sword craft paid dividends as he danced with his blades."
A great contemporary look at the faults in our society highlighted and played out. This is very Adult orientated and graphic which I found quite exciting and titilating. With the rate Daniel writes I know it won't be long before we get more to enjoy in this Series.
