Charlotte’s a girl with nicknames. She may not love being called Charles or Chuck, but the hardest nickname to take is the one she was given in college, the one that’s followed her now for too many years. They call her “the husband maker” and sadly, it fits. Every guy she's dated since high school has gone on to marry the next girl they date. Not two or three girls down the road. The very next one.
Is she doing something wrong or is she just cursed?
When Kyle Aldsworth enters the picture and sweeps her off her feet, Charlotte begins to hope that maybe she's not destined to be single forever. A senator’s son with political aspirations of his own, Kyle's wealthy, handsome, and in need of a wife. Will Charlotte be disappointed yet again, or will she finally be able to make a husband for herself?
With each book of Karey's that I have read I have come to love her writing more and more. I haven't read her first book Gifted yet but plan to. (I just saw it on my bookshelf yesterday when I was cleaning). I really liked For What It's Worth and loved My Own Mr. Darcy. I also loved her novellas - Maggie's Song & Lost and Found. I was really excited to hear she had a new book coming out.
I loved the concept behind the story-line of The Husband Maker. I was lucky to be one of the first people to get a copy of the finished book to read and I devoured it in a day. Such a fun cute clean book! It's a perfect escape full of laughs and romance. Karey's written a squeaky clean book with a fun story-line and likable characters that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves romance. I love when an author can pull off writing a great book that I can recommend without hesitation to anyone!
The Husband Maker is the first of a planned 3 book trilogy focused on Charlotte AKA The Husband Maker. It's really hard to write a review of this book without giving spoilers. I will say that knowing that there will be two more books was helpful while reading this story. If I thought this book would wrap up in a happily ever after and be the end of the Charlotte's story I would have been disappointed when I got to the end. The Husband Maker is just the start of Charlotte's story but we aren't left with a cliffhanger. There is closure to this part of the story and a door opens to let us see what's coming next. I can't wait for The Match Maker which will be released this fall.
There is a great cast of characters in this book. I fell in love with Kyle and Angus. I highly recommend anyone who loves clean romance grab a copy of this book.
Rating: 5 Stars - I loved it!
Content: Squeaky Clean

Purchase: Amazon.com (Official release date isn't until July 15th but it's live on Amazon and can already be downloaded)
Are you kidding me! I can't believe it ended like that... 4.5 stars because I'm still trying to figure out why it had to turn out that way and the next book in the trilogy is still months away! It sucked me into thinking the love is great, Kyle is great, Angus is great and then spit me out at the end...
Did this author stalk my life or what??? Only I am the one who decided I was the husband maker, and I often tell my friends if anyone is looking for their someone, all they need to do is date me... Which is why I had to read this book. In one sitting. And I can't believe I am left hanging!! Oh the agony! I loved this story. I loved the characters. It touched my heart, and I could feel everything Charlotte did. I cried and cried at certain parts too, it all was entirely too real to me. I have never read a romance book quite like this one, and I hope I like where the series ends up. I have my fingers crossed! And maybe just maybe if Charlotte gets her happily ever after, I will too... ;)
Charlotte is a real romantic; she wants a man to fall madly in love with her and settle down with her forever. But in reality, this doesn’t seem to be happening. In fact, the men that Charlotte dates ARE settling down and getting married, but it always seems to be to whoever they start dating after they break up with her.
She is not alone in noticing the pattern, in fact, at her latest ex-boyfriend’s wedding, she overhears a conversation in the ladies’ where she finds out that she is referred to behind her back as ‘The Husband Maker’. Obviously Charlotte is really upset by this, but being an optimist as well as a romantic, Charlotte allows herself to be set up with Kyle. This time she’s hopeful that her luck will change, and if not, she will have helped Kyle find love somewhere else.
‘Inside I surrendered. I was a hopeless failure at finding love for myself. I might as well try to help someone else. Especially a desperate old guy. “Fine, Jayne. Go ahead and set it up. But promise you won’t hate me when it doesn’t work out and he’s still a bachelor four or five girls from now.”
There is a lot to like about Charlotte. She is a good sister, a loving daughter and a wonderful friend, especially to her close friend Angus. She has a great sense of humour too, and is very modest and self-deprecating. But she’s so fixated on getting married, I couldn’t help but wonder how much this desperation at breaking her unlucky trend was pushing boyfriends away. She also wouldn’t turn the offer of a date down in case he was ‘the one’. Charlotte comes a long way in learning the truth of something she read:
‘The only way to true happiness is to know yourself-your hopes, your desires, your abilities and your limitations.’
Usually, if a character goes through a journey of self-discovery, they will have had a trying time, and this is true for Charlotte. I felt sorry for her for the difficulties she was going through, sometimes she was a bit naive, but other times I could completely understand her feelings on the changes being pushed onto her life once Kyle makes moves towards fulfilling his political ambitions. Her treatment at the hands of journalists made me really quite angry on her behalf! Charlotte has to decide what she is willing to sacrifice going forward:
‘They were choreographing my life. And I’m not a good dancer.’
This is the first in a series, followed by ‘The Match Maker’ and ‘The Wife Maker’, which all focus on Charlotte, so her tale isn’t fully told in this book. It ends on a question which is clearly leading you towards book two to find out what happens in the next episode in Charlotte’s life. I had decided pretty early on in ‘The Husband Maker’ where I think this is going, so I suppose I’ll have to read the other books to find out if I’m correct in my predictions!
I hadn’t read any books by this author before. I really enjoyed her writing style, and I found it easy to get absorbed in the story. I found at some points there were a lot of characters introduced at once, which sometimes got a little confusing. Also, some characters weren’t used much, which makes me wonder whether they will have side storylines in the other books in the series. Although this book deals with romantic relationships there are no sex scenes, and I don’t think that sex is even referred to so any blushes you might have when reading will be down to something embarrassing happening to poor Charlotte! If you’re looking for a romantic read with a happy ever after, this book doesn’t have it, though the series as a whole may have. However, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing Charlotte come to a better understanding of who she is and what she wants from life. I’d rate this book as a 4 star read.
*I received an e-book of this story for my honest review.
So, I knew going into it that this had an unconventional ending and knowing the plot, I had my guard up pretty much the whole time I was reading this. I kept waiting for something to happen, but to be honest nothing much does. I did like that it was unique and even though I hated the ending, I have to give the author props for going for it.
The rest will have to be spoilers, read once you’ve read the books for yourself.
I liked Charlotte. I felt bad for her when she realizes she has this nickname, but I liked how she kept an open mind when dating Kyle, she didn't let her fear ruin her relationship. She let things progress normally. I liked Kyle, a lot more than I thought I would. I liked her BFF Angus. I hope we get to reunite with all these characters in the next book. I hate to say this, but I'd almost recommend waiting until the next book is out before reading this one, unless you don't mind cliffhangers.
I have to say first that I am team Angus all the way. I so want Charlotte with Angus. That being said I see this as a journey for Charlotte, a completion of self in where she sees who she is and what she desires. I did feel horrible over Kyle. That was such a sweet, kind, gentle, caring guy but his goals and Charlotte's were not the same. They loved each other enough and respected each other enough to let go. So so sad.
The writing is captivating. Ms. White has woven a that is just to good to pass up. Charlotte is truly the epitome of always a bridesmaid never a bride except for her it goes one step further and everyman she dates the girl after her is who they marry. Kyle though was the most heart wrenching for they truly loved one another and if I am right on who it is wowza. Angus her friend since childhood is always there to help her pick up the pieces. Their therapy is BBQ so loving that. But Angus is clearly in love with her and is facing some difficult decisions as well. It is only fate that steps in and forces angus's hand in his decision much to Charlotte's relief who doesn't deal with change well.
Charlotte is a complete character flawed and all. She is what we all see in ourselves. We see our flaws and are all a little self conscious. What makes charlotte wonderful is no matter what she sees the sunny side of things. Always a good sport and never letting things show. Always finding the silver lining well until her heart is broken but even there she finds happiness and goodness.
Kyle the love interest is so sweet but has political aspirations. He is patient with Charlotte and defends her but he cannot give up his dream of doing good for love. We learn sometimes love just isn't enough. Another adage comes in in this story and that is if you love someone set them free, if they were yours they will come back if not they never were.
We see this here with Kyle and Charlotte but also in a way with Angus and Charlotte. Angus needs to be set free but fate did step in there. Charlotte needs to see Angus for what he is her soulmate dangit.
I truly think Angus and Charlotte are perfect for one another. It may take Charlotte time to see it. This is such a sweet cute story of a woman who is inadvertently labeled the husband maker in college and she is set up with someone. They fall for one another but have different hopes and dreams in the meantime there is a wonderful guy in the background waiting for her to see him. A wonderfully written clean romance. Look forward to the next and again team Angus all the way
I knew from the first chapter that I was in for a great chick lit story...and I sure wasn't wrong about that! I loved every minute of it, right up until the cliffhanger ending. I'm so glad the next book isn't far from being released because I'm DYING to know what happens next!
Charlotte puts up with a lot from her family and friends--from embarrassing nicknames to hurtful names--yet, she remains a positive, kind, and beautiful person. Her twin brother and their best friend, Angus, love to tease her and call her childhood nicknames, much to her dismay. While attending the wedding reception of the last guy she dated, she overhears a conversation where she's referred to as "The Husband Maker" because every guy she dates marries the very next girl he dates after they break up. While true, that hurts. But things have to change eventually, right?
Enter Kyle. Charlotte's boss sets them up and the future is looking bright. I loved Kyle! Even though he's rich, handsome, a great chef, and sweet, he's very down-to-earth and they really do hit it off. I was completely engrossed in their story and stayed up way too late to finish it--it was that good. Things almost seem too good to be true.
What I loved the most about the story, aside from the romance, is the way Charlotte handles herself. She has every reason to be vengeful and bitter, yet she isn't. She is truly happy for those around her, even her exes; she has a very good, supportive relationship with her family, which includes Angus. When faced with tough decisions, she digs deep down and does what's best for others, not herself. She's so amazing! I cannot wait to see what happens next!
Content: no language or violence; lots of kissing, but it stayed clean!
*I received a copy from the tour host and this in no way influenced my opinion*
I love Karey White and I love this book. She creates characters you can't help but love and writes in a way that pulls you in. Can't wait for the next one!
If an author can’t write a stand alone book within a series that is disappointing. Story was ok but then it just ends on cliff hanger and becomes and unfinished book.
Ive read " the husband maker " similar idea of " gppd luck chuck " the movie ,, and the idea was fun but ended with cliff hanger and its not the end of the stoty so ,, i gave it 3 out of 5 stars
This book is the first in a series of three books featuring Charlotte, the Husband Maker, as the main character.
In this book, Charlotte accepts that her boss sets her up with a friend of hers, Kyle. Kyle is everything Charlotte has ever wanted, but will it be enough to make their relationship last?
These books have to be read in order, since they are following one another. I don't think you can read this book as a stand-alone, because you will certainly want to know what will happen next. The whole book has a first person narrator and I believe it helps to relate to Charlotte, but also keeps us wondering just like Charlotte. At first, I found a bit hard to follow with all the characters. Charlotte has a whole lot of people in her life, but it's just realistic. After a while though, you get used to it and find it easier to remember who's who.
This wasn't my first book by Karey White and I really like her style. Her romances are never too predictable and that makes for a good read. Now I need to start the second book to see what will happen to Charlotte and the people in her life!
I received The Husband Maker in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by I Am A Reader book tours. Charlotte hasn’t had luck finding the right guy but every guy she’s dated has ended up married to the next girl he dates after her. She’s been called the “husband maker” because even the ones who aren’t ready to settle down do with the next one. Charlotte is hesitant when her boss pushed her to date one of her husband’s friend, but decides to give it a shot.
Charlotte had a couple of dates with Kyle but it was the one with the hot air balloon that sealed their fate. They both found what they were looking for, happy going out or just staying home for the evening. Things aren’t perfect they both come from different worlds while Charlotte is a normal girl who works hard Kyle is the son of a politician who wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps. When Charlotte accidently speaks to a reporter at a function, she didn’t expect her words to be twisted into lies. Can she deal with being attached to a man when she has to watch how she acts?
Oh I loved Charlotte right from the start after all her story takes play in the same area I happen to live. So when she’s doing promotional stuff for the jelly bean factory I was like “hey I’ve been there before many times”. I found it easy to connect with Charlotte she’s just a really great person one of those you want to be friends with. I really like Kyle for he’s into her needs as well as his own and he really loves her. However I also like Angus and could see him being the one for Charlotte and felt like he is single because he loves her.
When I received the tour invite I didn’t read the synopsis just signed up because I Am A Reader has always had fantastic books clean romance which is my favorite. I was pleasantly surprised that Charlotte lived near me which just made me fall in love with the book. I love the idea of her being just a normal girl who finds love by chance with a great guy, that she doesn’t need the extravagant dates. I started and finished The Husband Maker in one day only stopping to read when the kids needed something. My only complaint is it’s a cliffhanger and I need the next one because I’m dying to know what’s going to happen with Charlottes love life as well as Kyle and Angus. I really enjoyed the fact that the book is a sweet, fun, emotional roller coaster that keeps you wanting more. I love the authors writing style it’s easy to get lost in the story I felt like I was really with Charlotte which for me is the sign of a great book. I know I’ll be impatiently waiting for the next one. If you like clean romance I highly suggest you check it out.
I had to take an emergency trip to Arizona this past week and while I never read in the car, I couldn't put this book down. The romance was so good! I loved the main character, Charlotte, and the men in her life were so well-rounded, quirky, and fun. It was a page-turner for sure.
When we meet Charlotte, she is at a wedding reception for her old boyfriend. In the ladies room, she overhears some women talking about her being there and then they discuss her nickname, "The Husband Maker" because every time she breaks up with a guy, he marries his next girlfriend. So humiliating for her and hard to hear. She talks about it with her best friend Angus (who I loved), but isn't sure how to break her curse. Poor Charlotte.
Her boss has been dying to set her up on a date with Kyle Aldsworth (another guy that I loved in this book. *le sigh*) for ages, and Charlotte finally gives in, even though he's nine years older than her. That's when the sparks really fly. The romance was so fun and seeing Charlotte deal with everything that came along with Kyle was really well done.
I loved the writing style and I really thought I knew how this romance was going to end up, but I was surprised! I love it when that happens. The only thing I didn't love about this book was the ending. This book is the first in a series and had I known that, (and that this book ends with a serious cliffhanger), I probably would have waited until the series was all out before I started reading. You know me, I am not a fan of cliffhangers at all, and this one practically ends mid-sentence. So, while I loved the book, and the characters, the next installment doesn't come out until fall, and I'm sure there will be a third which means I will probably wait until the whole series is out to finish. Cliffhangers are the worst! (But I don't know. I really want to know what happens with Charlotte. Sigh. Double sigh.)
To sum up, if you want a sweet romance that will keep you up tonight to finish and don't mind waiting to find out what happens, then pick this book up today!
My mom had this audio book on her Itunes so I had to pirate it :). Kidding. I bought it for her on her Itunes so I could listen to it. My kids and I went on vacation last week and this was the book I put on during the drive. I couldn't get enough. I started this one on the way to our destination, and on the way home. I shouldn't have done that because I listen to the other two the next day after getting home. I really enjoyed listening to this.
Charlotte, is a girl that doesn't seem to have very good luck when it comes to dating. She seems to be able to date just fine, but marrying is a whole other story. The men she dates always end up marrying the next girl they date after Charlotte.
Kyle - ahhh..what to say about Kyle. Tall, dark, and swoon worthy man. I really liked him at the beginning. He was so kind, and was so genuine. Then his parents got involved. I hate that. Parent's have no business getting into their child's relationships! Especially if they are adults, UNLESS there is danger involved. Then add politics. Gag. I really rooted for them. I loved him and their relationship at the beginning was beautiful. Then he had to involve parents, and politics. BAD combination.
I loved Charlotte's family! They are all such wonderful people. In my opinion. She always had someone to talk to, and people who supported her. I love Anges. LOVE him. He is the friend of the family that has been just another part of the family. We had many of those growing up in my home. Friends who were more like siblings than friends.
I loved Charlotte's twin brother Will. Their relationship was fantastic. I loved the banter that went on between them, and their other siblings.
This was just a fun book to read. I loved that it involved, family, friends. They all added so much to the story. Charlotte is definitely a character I came to love and couldn't wait to listen to more about her. She had quite the dating life.
This review was originally posted at Corazones Literarios... This book was provided by the author through IamRBT in exchange of a honest review...
Is very difficult to me to not to write this without spoilers. I usually don’t give spoilers in my reviews, I try very hard; I also use to large the review, although that I don’t have very much to say, and only write couple of lines or just the rating. But with this book is a mix of both. I mean, I really want to say so much, but at the same time I don’t want to say a thing, and I’m worried I spoil your reading. So, I’m going to keep it very short to the happy of all the side of me…
The plot was great and very original; I mean, a girl who all her dates get married just after they break up with her. I like it very much and think that have an important life lesson: Never give up on love because no matter what, it always find you.
The characters were wonderful as well. I like Charlotte, she was cute, lovely and sweet, and the fact that she never give up about dates, even after she found out about the nickname, won me very much; she’s a fighter. I like her family too; there were so much love and laugh, very caring people even when few of them say rude things, but always thinking of her best interest. Kyle and Angus were wonderful. I enjoy read about them.
The romance was so much cute, perfect. I was so involve of it that when the end arrived, I was so shocking and angry and really sad! I was devastated; I just couldn’t understand why that happened. ¡After six month! WHAT?! I never see that coming, and even when I understand that will be other books I just can’t help myself but to want a better ending for this just because is too sad! I still can’t accept it!
Overall this was a great book, full of emotions; I recommend it for everyone who wants to read a sweet love story that melt the heart but also hurt so bad.
My Take: 4 Stars! I LOVED this book! As you can tell just from this excerpt, it has it's humor, for sure! (The excerpt is at http://bit.ly/UmWG3b)I happen to LOVE Property Brothers TV show, and I was 'dying' of laughter when I first read that! Then the remark about Charlotte's Web! There are so many more through the book, but you can't help but to feel sorry for Charlotte. Then the tag name of 'The Husband Maker'. That, she hates! Nicknames she hates. Will she ever, and the emphasis is on ever, get her own husband? Then she meets someone and thinks he's the one, and then THE END??? NO!!!!! This cannot be!!! I found out this book is a trilogy. Now we have to wait until the next book comes out. UGH!!! No!!! Do yourself a favor and humor yourself with this book, and enjoy it to THE END! Although now you know we are left wanting for MORE! I received this book for FREE from the Author, Karey White, in exchange to read and write a review about it. "Free" means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to do so, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it and giving my own honest opinion no matter whether it is positive or negative. I am disclosing this information in accordance with the law set here: http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/wa...., The Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255, 16 CFR 255, Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising Federal Acquisition Regulation.
So very current, so today! This is a modern, quirky tale that will draw you in with its witty comment on contemporary romance. The protagonist's self-depreciating manner of poking fun at herself while still managing to keep the readers respect and get them rooting for her happiness is another aspect of this novel that translates into easy reading and totals into an un-out-downable read. Charlotte is the 'Husband Maker', every guy she dates turns into someone else's husband by the very next date. She is self-composed, clever, beautiful and interesting, yet she cannot manage to keep a guy long enough to marry him. In emotional break-down she aways turns to her childhood friend, Angus, for support and tear-drying advice. He believes in her and only wants the very best for her(very hunky too!) Finally, she meets Kyle, a man she has deflected because he is much older than her, only to find she really likes him. The slow-burn romance is utterly charming, beautifully written and totally wonderful. The author pulls at our heat-strings as she transports us into a utopia of romance. It's marvelously special, and will probably put a silly, ear-to-ear grin on your face while you read it. Nevertheless, Kyle has aspirations that Charlotte has not bargained for. Will Kyle be the man of her dreams, or will she make him into someone else's? Can she find her forever man? (Please, do yourself a favor and read this book, you won't be sorry.)
Last year I read My Own Mr. Darcy by Karey White and was immediately taken in by the sweet romance of a woman trying to find her own happily ever after. So, I jumped after the chance to read her latest book The Husband Maker. While there is no Mr. Darcy, or anyone that resembles him, this book will be sure to appease everyone who has ever had trouble finding Mr. Right.
Charlotte is called "The Husband Maker" because after every breakup her ex ends up finding "Mrs. Right" in his next relationship. She's not the only one that notices this pattern, in fact she's earning quite a reputation. Discouraged, Charlotte doesn't want to date anyone anytime soon, but her friends have other ideas. That's where Kyle comes in. Kyle seems like the complete package, but there's something standing in the way of her happiness. Charlotte has to decide if Kyle is her Mr. Right.
I enjoyed reading this book as much as I did My Own Mr. Darcy. Karey White writes characters that will resonate with many people. You will laugh, you will cry. You will become a cheerleader for Charlotte. While I did like this book, there were a few things that didn't sit well. The biggest one was the cliffhanger. At least the author won't make us wait too long. The sequel, The Match Maker, will come out later this year. If you're looking for a sweet romance to read, this is it! Read more at http://www.toreadornottoread.net/2014...
If you are looking for a high speed, giddy romance you won't find it in this book. But that doesn't mean it's not a good read. Quite the contrary. I enjoyed this clean, "find yourself" romance. The characters are very likeable. I had to keep reading to see if she finally got the guy. And if not, was he the one who ended it or was she, and why? Kyle seemed perfect so I couldn't see a reason he would end things. I thought they were going to make it, except that there are two more books in the series, so I kept reading to discover the conflict. I was glad Charlotte made the decision she did about Kyle. He was a really nice guy, but it was interesting that her pro's/con's list only had pro's on it that involved his worldly status such as money or looks. Those are not lasting things on which to base a relationship. I cried in this one. I like the nicknames her brother and best friend give her. I think it's cute. Their friendship/relationship is deep and enduring. I probably wouldn't read this one again because I like a little faster paced books, but I will read the next one and possibly the one after that. I want to see if Charlotte comes to her senses and realizes she loves Angus like he loves her (just a guess). Appropriate for any age. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book by Karey White that I've read. Being a fellow husband-maker myself I was intrigued by the plot. It's an overall cute story, however there's something about Karey's writing that I'm just struggling with. I had these issues with the first book I read and I had the same problems again. I'm craving more detail and more emotion. I can't help feeling like everything is just summarized. Even though Kyle and Charlotte's relationship is adorable I had a hard time really grasping it's authenticity because almost every encounter they had was so sped up. I wanted to read more about how they interacted with each other, what attracted them to the other, maybe some playful banter. Essentially, I want to see the relationship realistically evolve.
Obviously, based upon other positive reviews this is apparently a personal issue. Not very many others seem to be having my same concerns. Therefore, if you're looking for a cute, clean, intriguing, suspenseful story I definitely recommend The Husband Maker. Just be forewarned that the ending will cause you to scream. I know I did.
Did I enjoy this book: This was a cute book. It was sweet, quick, romantic. I read it every free chance I had and finished it in a day.
I enjoyed The Husband Maker. It was a sweet romance. It was clean, happy, a bit predictable, but a good read. It made me happy. It had me glued to my Nook from beginning to end. I felt bad for Charlotte because of her track record. She seemed like a great girl. I hated her nicknames. The poor girl. I can only imagine what she went (goes) through because of those nicknames. I loved Kyle and Angus. Both are great guys who seem to really care about Charlotte.
Would I recommend it: Sure. It was a fun read. I want to see what happens in the next book, The Match Maker.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Nowhere does this say this ends in a cliffhanger. The implication is that this books ends with Charlotte finding herself a husband (This IS advertised as a Romance and romance novels are supposed to end with a HEA.)
I am mightily miffed.
Other thoughts: Charlotte is two dimensional and shallow. There was very little character development, or tension or reason to keep reading. it was full of long rambling scenes that have little purpose other than padding. I understand there are several more books in this series but I wont be reading them.
One star. I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it.
This was such a fun book to read, with quite an intriguing story line. Charlotte's journey in the dating world is sometimes funny to read and sometimes hard. With such a past, you can't help but root for her and Kyle, and secretly hope this time will be different, cringing at the direction it takes the more time they spend together. On the other hand, I felt like Gibbs slapping her for how blind she is to what's right under her nose.
I knew this was the first of a trilogy but I was not prepared for the massive cliffhanger. The speculation alone is enough to write a fanfic novella while I'm waiting for the book #2.
This is one book when I got to the last page, I said, What!!!!!!! noooooo- can't wait for the next book to find out what happens. I just can't imagine that Kyle could actually find someone he wanted to marry in 6 months and get engaged. I read without stopping because I found this book too good to put down. A young lady finds herself dating and everyone she does ends up marrying someone else. She has become know as the husband maker. This troubles her but doesn't stop her from trying to find he soul mate. She thinks she has found it in Kyle, but his life as a politician is too hard for her and then he goes off and gets engaged. Will she figure out Angus is her match? Will she find someone else? Hopefully book 2 will help with all the questions.
I really, really enjoyed this book...up until the ending. It was abrupt & then had a cliffhanger ending- which I don't really like. Overall, the characters were likeable. Charlotte cracked me up and I loved being inside her head. Kyle was just perfect. I enjoyed watching them try to make their relationship work, despite the odds and outside stresses. The author did a good job weaving the other characters into the story, enough to where I really hope they are in future books so I can see what has happened in their lives as well... As I said, I really prefer closure over cliffhanger endings, but I'm excited to read the next book in the series, The Match Maker.
**I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars. I'm a fan of Karey's. I loved both The Gift and My Own Mr. Darcy. So I was really looking forward to her newest book. I wasn't disappointed. Karey has a way of writing these characters that throw you into a maelstrom of emotion because you're not sure who you're rooting for - or even why, sometimes. I thought I knew where this story was going and I was wrong. I can't tell you who I wanted Charlotte to end up with because it will give away the story. I am looking forward to the sequel to see how Charlotte's life plays out. I really want to see this character happy, and that shows how powerful Karey's writing is, that I care about this woman who is fictional. Great, true-to-life, contemporary romance. Another winner for Karey White.
Charlotte already has embarrassing nicknames. Her twin brother and his best friend call her Chuck and Chuckers and Charles every chance they get. But at a wedding reception for an ex-boyfriend Charlotte overhears someone call her a nickname she never wants to hear again: The Husband Maker. Every guy Charlotte's ever dated has gone on to marry their next girlfriend. So begins this fun novel that was funny and sweet and made me want to run out and get the next book. (Yes, this is a series so don't freak out when it ends suddenly) I highly recommend this fun read and I'm grabbing the next book and not waiting to borrow it. Super cute book. Charlotte (or Chuck, Charlie or Chuckers to her twin brother and his friend) has not been lucky in love. In fact, when she overhears two ladies refer to her as the Husband Maker in the restroom, based on her dating history of every single one of her boyfriends going on to marry the next girl they date after breaking up with her, she despairs of ever finding Mr. Right. When her boss sets her up with a friend, she isn’t prepared to lose her heart again, but that’s exactly what happens. I loved reading to see if she would keep her true love this time around. I loved Charlotte’s character and also the side characters like Angus and Will.
