Dan Slott's star is mos' def waning! Although this Venom - Spidey mini-event has some real consequences the story lacks any real passion, nuance or subtlety. Looking forward to the upcoming creator change for the Spidey books. 5 out of 12, Two Star floppity flop :(

How much Venom is too much (?) is a question that runs through my mind all of my waking hours. The movie was okay, yet Marvel seems set on jamming this character down our collective throats as often as possible – a Venom-verse, another Venom book, a Venom god, and as if we need it, yet another Venom character…

He’s a Maniac, Maniac, Venom number 404,

And he’s doing stuff no other Venom did before…

Flashdance! What a feeling!!!

Um, mind control kids. He, that is Maniac, glops some Venom symbiote on someone and its instant minion.

Even Spidey gets a dose (10-4 good buddy)…

…until he’s relieved by Black Cat, who looks like she’s back and nestled in the bosom of Good for a while.

And speaking of Flashdance (le sigh), Flash Thompson’s along for the ride, as well as Eddie Brock, which gives the poor symbiote fits.

Poor wittle creepy, lethal symbiote.

And way to extrapolate some lines…

…from crappy movies too. Or am I reading too much into this?

Yo, Mary Jane. Yo!

So, it’s down to Evil Venom plus mind-controlled henchmen vs. Venom, Spidey, Anit-Venom (“You got the fever, I got the cure”) and friends…

…and this Venom gets pretty darned big, for reasons that escape me…

Bottom Line :

Yep, this one burns in a “this was slightly fun as it happened, but I’m going to need some ointment to get rid of the lingering uncomfortability for a few weeks” kind of way.

The latest guy to have become Venom, Lee Price, is back with a new symbiote that can take control of people. He's building up his gang by stealing the Black Cat's. Spidey teams up with Flash Thompson and Eddie Brock to stop him. I'm a long term Spider-Man fan but I hate all of the symbiotes outside of Agent Venom. Gerardo Sandoval's art on the Venom issues is awful. It's so busy I can't tell up from down. It's just a bunch of characters floating on the page with no backgrounds. This felt like a spin your wheels story as we wait for Dan Slott's final Spider-Man story.

Story: 4 stars (being slightly generous, perhaps, but they ticked a lot of my personal boxes)

Stegman's art: 3 stars (decent enough but nothing outstanding)

Sandoval's art: 1 star (I don't understand the appeal of this guy's work at all, I'm afraid).

Well I just finished Venom: Homecoming when I read this and saw Lee in here. I was worried this would suck as bad as that. It didn't.

So what's it about? This gets together Brock, Flash, and Spidy all together to face off against Lee and his army of venom. It's a crazy, 90's like, comic that kind of just has a bunch of big fights that all leads to Brock being venom, Flash being Agent Anti Venom, and Spider-man being...well Spider-man. Oh yeah, and Lee becomes a big Godzilla like Venom.

Good: The fights are pretty great. The humor keeps up throughout and Flash and Spider-man together are pretty great. Also thought the pacing was solid as it was never boring.

Bad: The storyline is nothing special and reminds me of the 90's crossover events, but not in a good way. I also thought Lee as a main enemy was again the weakest part, the dude just sucks.

Overall a fun little event storyline that can read all on it's own. A 3 out of 5.

A mobster gets control of a symbiote suit and is able to ....infect others with the symbiote which brings them under his control...

...yeah. So, I will admit, I'm not the biggest Venom fan. I mean, don't get me wrong, there's some good stories with the symbiote and some good characterization with Brock and especially with Flash Thompson, but overall - I find the character to be a bit much. To me he is an apt representation of the 90's "xxxtreme" style of comics, where the visual is most important and the story is secondary. And this book felt very much like a throwback to that.

I picked it up because I'm a spiderman fan - and I was hoping for something with a bit more substance. Unfortunately Dan Slott kind of takes the easy route with this one and makes it so predictable that you kind of know where the story is going by the time you finish the second issue.

If you're a fan of Venom - you'll probably like this more than I did.

71st book read in 2018.

Number 382 out of 731 on my all time book list.

A bit complicated, but enjoyable. Black cat was disappointing.

This was a solid story and starts off with Lee Price taking bits and pieces of the mania symbiote and spreading infection to others and calls himself Maniac and since he has targeted NY five families, its upto Peter to step up and save everyone and in the process team up with Anti-venom, Venom and even Black cat and Andi to save the day and there are parts where he fights all of the,, is under the control and finally they find a way to defeat the villain and the moments leading upto it were awesome. The moments between him and flash are so awesome.

Plus the way the art showcases him is too fun. And then the ending and new status quo for some heroes was quite good. Overall I really enjoyed the art and showcases a new villain and the things Peter has to face on a daily basis and the ending with Mockingbird was hilarious.

I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned previously on goodreads my passive feelings towards symbiotes, but I’m probably one of the few spider-man fans that doesn’t care for them that much. Aside from Agent Venom and a few other storylines, I always find symbiote to be boring and same old same old. And other than making Flash the anti-toxin, this felt like that.

Really wanted to like this... but it wasn't my thing.

Not a huge fan of the artwork in general either.

Peter Parker, Flash and Eddie Brock VS Price (the newest venom) and his army of venomized c-listers and whatnot. Meh. Also Black Cat's in it. The most boring one dimensional character since Spider-Gwen.

So now the symbiote (one of the symbiotes??) can replicate itself by spitting?? That would seem to lead to infinite numbers of symbiote, unless the villain chooses not to spit too often.

Anywho, this is a good Venom story and a bad story generally. It does a good job of bringing together various venomi (Flash, Eddie, and the whole Anti-Venom thing) but then it's just six issues of people in symbiotes beating each other up. There are a couple of neat comparisons of Flash and Eddie, but otherwise this is pure punching plot.

(There's also a bit too much status quo reset here, both for the venomi and Black Cat, as Slott unwinds his plot.)

Finally, Flash is back and along with him a great crossover!

Just finish Space Knight and go into Venom Inc. Ignore the main Venom series...

I wasn't particularly impressed by the first half, but i did enjoy Eddie and Flash fighting over the symbiote (and the parts with the symbiote on its own). The second half was really fun, though. I enjoyed them working together even better.
The plot... isn't very much to look at... And Peter, as always, is an asshole when it comes to the symbiote.

Lee Price takes control of a symbiote and Spidey will need help from anti-venom (Flash Thompson) and Venom (Eddie Brock). We can also see Black Cat playing a good role.

I liked this one; yet, it could've been so much more. The characters tapped here -- not only the legions of Spider-Men, Venoms and Anti-Venoms (hyperbole, people!), it's got half the street-level rogues' gallery of Spidey...which, unfortunately, is not used anywhere near to the fullest of its potential.

Shame, I love me a good Venom story.

So much seems to have happened in the world where Venom wanders around since I have visited there. Did not know some of the characters popping up, but still I enjoyed this one.
Nice sarcastic humor, loads of fisticuffs, great action and decent art. Not perfect, but good.

Thr art was great, action scenes were very compelling, loved the story - my first Venom VS. Anti-Venom and I loved the collision of opposite forces and watching Spider-Man trying to choose a path forward.

Frankly, I was a bit underwhelmed by the storyline. There were no shocking revelations or plot twists. It’s a standard storyline with a weak ending.

This is such a poor effort that it would ruin comics for someone who hasn't picked them up before.

Slott should be ashamed, if he really wrote this.

Collects Amazing Spider-Man: Venom Inc. Alpha #1, Amazing Spider-Man issues #792-793, Venom issues #159-160, and Amazing Spider-Man: Venom Inc. Omega #1

This was a great Spider-Man crossover event. Eddie Brock is back as Venom, and he is forced to team up with Spider-Man when Lee Price returns as has new symbiote powers. Along the way, Flash Thompson and Black Cat show up in the story, and even Mania makes an appearance. Your enjoyment will be increased if you are caught up on most of the modern Venom stories, but I think you could enjoy this story either way. For me, having read a lot of the Spider-Man and Venom stories that led up to this crossover, I had a 5-star experience.

A bit of a dip in quality, especially after a superb few stories. The characters are still mostly on point but the story felt fairly lazy and 90's-esc. I'll admit I've never been a fan of venom but i dig both Flash and Black Cat and neither of them did much for me in this story. It's also kind of cringy having Pete keep his identity from Flash, especially as he's a super hero too but for the most part this was an enjoyable enough read, if not to Slotts usual standards

Maybe too much Venom is becoming uninteresting, but the action designs were pretty cool. Specially the ones that Gerardo Sandoval drew.

Lots of battle and symbiotes!
Mania (a newer hero symbiote attached to a girl named Andi, who is connected to Flash Thompson) is attacked and her symbiote is taken away from her, bonding with Lee Price, who is now out of jail, and takes the name of Maniac. Using his new powers, Maniac is able to spit pieces of his symbiote onto others, giving them temporary powers.
Elsewhere, Eddie Brock, still dealing with the rages of Venom, goes to take his controlling meds and ends up in a battle with Flash Thompson, who is looking for the Venom symbiote to help him track Mania's whereabouts. When Spidey gets involved, the battle around the chemicals causes Eddie to lose Venom (gets stored in Mockingbird's bathtub!) and Flash to become Anti-Venom!
Maniac, with gang of symbinions (symbiote minions LOL, my word, not theirs) attacks Black Cat and takes control of her gang as well. Spidey and Anti-Venom show up, freeing Cat, but get captured in the process, while Eddie reunites with Venom. Spidey gets turned by Maniac and begins a crime spree. Andi saves Anti-Venom, Spidey gets released, and all the heroes and anti-heroes team up to take on Maniac.
Cat figures out that Maniac is primed to use his abilities to take over the Five Families, a crime syndicate group who controls most of the city. They are unable to stop it initially, but take out all the symbinions. Lee, in a moment of desperation, reabsorbs all the pieces and takes on the full Mania symbiote. When it is discovered that he can't control anyone who had been under his influence before, the "team" is able to severely weaken Lee and get him back in prison.
Aftermath? Spidey has to clean up Mockingbird's apartment, Black Cat calls truce with Spidey, Anti-Venom takes up the role that was left vacant from when he was Agent Venom, and Eddie is allowed to keep the Venom symbiote.
(lol, I swear.... symbiotes always make the story more complicated)

Overall, a great tale that is the second to last Spidey tale from Dan Slott. High recommend.
