A celebrity wedding is disrupted with a shocking death. Jenny is asked to look into the death and find out who is behind it.

The second book in the Pelican Cove cozy mystery series. Jenny is an amateur sleuth with a solid mystery on her hands, and a little romance in her life. The same quirky, fun characters from the first book, Strawberries and Strangers, were back. It does help to have read the first book and be familiar with the characters, but this could easily be read as a standalone. A light and easy cozy mystery.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Awesome!! This story is well thought out and well written. The story flows and the characters are fleshed out. You really feel like you know them.
A celebrity wedding is about to take place in Pelican Cove. A woman's body landing on the wedding cake brings everything to a halt. The bride asks Jenny to investigate. Another big event may take place. Pelican Cove has been entered into a contest for The Prettiest Town in America. A consultant has been hired. Businesses get a letter telling what they need to do to improve their buildings. She has nothing good to say about the Boardwalk Cafe and is a thorn in Petunia's side. Petunia doesn't have the money to do all the repairs. Will the Cafe be the only business that doesn't get a makeover?
A bridsmaid is murdered. Why? Who is killing these women? Will Jenny or Adam be able to solve this case fast?
Will Jenny have to make a decision between Jason and Adam?
This is a book that you don't want to put down.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.

The 2 nd book was about Crystal (Heather cousin) and Wayne a country music singer and actor were getting married. Wayne parachuted out of plane but someone else did too and crashed to the ground. Her name was Bella everyone acted like they did not know her ( the bridesmaids the bride and groom) so Jenny ( a woman that moved to Pelican Cove because of her ex husband to stay with her Aunt Star) try to find out really what happened. But Adam ( the sheriff) told her to stay out of it. 2 murders in this book. This was a kinda slow book. Some of the story line I did not quite get. I read 1st one it was good. I might read another.

Another great one

Second book in this series and even better than the first. The characters are more developed, the town feels more like home. A great mystery that had me guessing who could have done it. Have to read the next one asap.

Cupcakes and Celebrities: Book 2 of a fun cozy series!

The setting for this book is on a beautiful small island in Virginia. The recurring cast of characters are quite entertaining. I enjoy their emerging personalities and interactions with each other. The group of Magnolia ladies are a hoot. There is no short supply of handsome men on the island either. There is a bit of an ongoing teaser in the series with a love triangle. Right now, it is still at a flirty stage. It will be interesting to see how it will play out in future stories.

With this entertaining whodunit mystery, there were plenty of red herrings to consider. I had it narrowed down to one of two people and one of them was the murderer. So, I don’t feel too bad about not solving it before the reveal. Maybe next time.

My favorite genre is cozy mysteries. I enjoy reading a well-written, lighthearted, clean, fun, and easy read. This book ticked all the boxes for me; so of course, it rates five stars in my book. Leena Clover is a gifted storyteller. I am looking forward to reading more of this cozy mystery series this week.

Celebrities.

They have descended on Pelican Cove for a "hush hush" wedding ending in murder. The bride to be hires Jenny to solve the case. The suspects abound, and motives are not in short supply either. Add in new town beautification projects and Jenny is one busy bee.

Strike Two

Discarded divorcee relocates to a family member's hometown for a fresh start. This new beginning includes a heretofore unknown talent for solving murders, which causes her to run afoul of local law enforcement (aka the burgeoning love interest). Sounding familiar? At least some other authors utilizing well-known cozy tropes add interest with likable and engaging characters or humor or fantastical events. This author doesn't even muster that much effort. The description of Pelican Cove's origins reads like it was copied and pasted from the first book; ditto for the explanation for Jenny's charm necklace, and the reality "actors" are just a compilation of stereotypes.

What does the author deem worthy of effort? 1)Jenny wavers between aggressive and passive by turn and always in the wrong circumstance. 2)Adam is ineffectual and constantly dumbfounded that Jenny is superior to him as an investigator. 3)Their sophomoric interactions aren't cute in 20-year-olds; in 40-year-olds these are just pathetic. 4)Molly is smug in her moral superiority regarding cheats, but no one called her on her lies/evasions that kept an innocent woman a suspect in the last book. 5)The body shaming trend continues; I may not remember what anyone else looks like, but one character's appearance is consistently highlighted by referencing double chins and waddling. This book is a big fail in both plot and structure.

I’m really enjoying this series! The storyline in this, the second book in the series is complex enough to keep you interested but not so complex that it’s confusing. The characters are quirky and fun, the typical assortment of personalities found in most small towns.

Pelican Cove is gearing up for tourist season. At the Boardwalk Cafe that means Jenny is trying out new recipes. In the midst of this busy time a celebrity wedding is planned at the country club and a consultant is hired to help Pelican Cove be named the Prettiest Town in America. The wedding day arrives and so does the groom, by skydiving into the ceremony. Only problem is someone else dives too and with the parachute not opening, the landing is on top of the wedding cake. Jenny is asked to find out what went wrong and as usual keeps bumping heads with the local lawman who doesn’t want her interference.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

This second book in this series is just as good as the first. A real page-turner and very hard to put down! I love how Ms. Clover writes these mysteries with so many twists and turns and more than one storyline within the same book. Jenny finds herself in the middle of a celebrity wedding and a murder investigation. She has a hard time getting to the facts because everyone seems to be having a hard time telling the truth. I enjoyed the fast pace of the storylines and the small-town, southern feeling that shows throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good clean mystery, southern women and amateur sleuths!

A mixture of gastronomic and mysterious delights

Book 2 in the Pelican Cove series kept my attention throughout with more twists than book 1. This one kept me guessing longer, which is a sign of a good mystery. Jenny is settling in well into the Pelican Cove community with her aunt and her friends. She continues to make mouth watering new recipes at the Boardwalk Café (makes me hungry when I read about the food). Once again she finds herself in the middle of trying to solve a murder, much to the annoyance of the local sheriff, who is also attracted to her & she to him. I look forward to reading book 3 in the series as I am coming to know and love the characters.

Can't wait for the next one!

I really enjoyed the characters in this book, especially Jenny! She was in her forties, but she frequently came across as much younger. I like that in a woman. It was fun to have two men trying to date her. Surprised at the end as to how the diner got funded for a fix up. And actually surprised, yes and no, as to the killers identity
And yes, I truly want at least ten more books in this series in Pelican Bay!

Another Good Story

This series is rapidly becoming a favorite for me. I enjoy that Jenny is in her forties and she is loyal to her friends. I like her relationships with Adam and Jason as well as Heather and Molly. Wish there were recipes for her chicken salad and crab salad. Looking forward to her continuing adventures.

Cupcakes and Celebrities is the second book in the Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery Series. This time a lot of problems are being caused by outsiders to Pelican Cove. A celebrity wedding is taking place at the country club between a reality star and a country singer. The extravaganza is populated by wanta be reality stars as bridesmaids. Because the star is a distant cousin of Heather's, Heather and Jenny have been asked to fill in as bridesmaids as well. It is with fascination as they watch a small plane approach the wedding and see the groom sky dive out of the plane towards the wedding location. But a shocked hush came over the crowd when a second figure jumped from the plane wearing a wedding gown identical to the bride. Only no shutes open for the second figure and she lands face first in the $4,000 wedding cake, dead.

Before long the bride has asked Jenny to find out what happened and solve the mystery so the wedding can be rescheduled. Not willing to promise anything, Jenny merely agrees to look into it. But meanwhile the town is entered in a contest to claim the title of the "Most Beautiful Town in the USA" by the council. They have hired a consultant to help them win, by telling all the businesses what to do as far as repairs and spiffing up properties downtown. The Boardwalk Cafe where Jenny works and makes many delicious cupcakes, is hit particularly hard with demands. Owner Petunia doesn't have funds to have the work done however. Jenny finally convinces her to get an estimate as she also convinces friends to pledge to work on the cafe as a favor to Petunia. How will it all happen according to the edict the cafe is handed? What happened that the girl on the plane jumped and had shute failure? Was it murder? Who murdered that girl...but wait, there's more!

Ms Clover has done a great job keeping the action going in both the skydiving case and the community make-over case, all the while keeping readers guessing which man, Police Chief Adam or Attorney Jason, is winning Jenny's affections! The action has a better pulse than the first book, and Jenny seems to be a little better focused on what questions need asking and who needs to answer them. I think this second book of the series is a much tighter book without seeming rushed to any conclusions. And the ending was quite unexpected in many ways.

Pelican Cove seems like the perfect place to hold a super secret celebrity wedding. Everything is going as planned, well except for the one bridesmaid who had to drop out but Jenny stepped up and is filing in. Nothing else can go wrong, right? Just as the wedding is about to start the groom to be skydives down, almost immediately followed by someone else wearing a very familiar dress. It's not the bride who is down below waiting, and before the guests know what to think the unknown woman has fallen into the cake, her parachutes did not open and she is dead. The bride to be hires Jenny to try and figure out what happened, though she doesn't really care about the truth she just wants to marry her man. While investigating Jenny discovers how self centered celebrities can be, no matter what happens. Meanwhile Pelican Cove has the chance for an prestigious town award and the Boardwalk Cafe might not be up to the standards needed to help win the prize. Jenny will have a full plate of investigating, beautifying, and maybe even a little romance (plus some special chicken salad)!

Now that I know who all these characters are and am familiar with Pelican Cove, I highly enjoyed this story and could jump right in. The mystery was intriguing and kept me guessing. I also enjoyed the subplot for the town award. The love triangle continues, though does not take away from either of the main plots. I do with there were some recipes included as reading about all the delicious food Jenny makes made me hungry! I rated this four out of five stars.

Scrumptious Cupcakes and Celebrity Headaches
(Disclaimer: I received an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of the book. Read it. Decided to provide my honest review). Cupcakes and Celebrities, Pelican Cove Cozy Mystery 2 by Leena Clover is a HOOT! From page one, it was as if coming home. Everything felt familiar. I had no trouble settling into the storyline, I was ready, if not eager to start reading. The main character, Jenny, who as I mentioned in book one was well developed in the areas of strength, humility, vulnerability, and persistence. In Cupcakes and Celebrities, it seems the author thought she could use additional characteristics such as being perturbed, "uh-huh", cantankerous, and self-confident. There was a more detail about Pelican Cove providing breadth to the storyline. But, in a cozy murder-mystery, it's the simplicity, yet complexity that drives its success and Leena Clover hit the nail on the head. The author builds characters that are convincing and fun to be with and a storyline that keeps you engaged from the first through the last page with an ending you didn’t expect leaving me saying "what?" Cupcakes and Celebrities delivered on all fronts even with a hanging chad… When is the next book and will Jenny get her man? MY RECOMMENDATION: It’s a 5-STAR GREAT read! Better if you read Strawberries and Strangers first. Cupcakes and Celebrities will not disappoint. –Tex

Jenny is forced to be a bridesmaid at a fancy country club wedding. As usual you know something bad is going to happen, especially when a dead body drops from the sky and lands on the cake. This happened just as the famous singer/actor groom skydives down.

Jenny uncovers so many stories and lies in a clique where popularity and fame are the only way to success in the acting industry. It seems like everyone from the wedding party has a reason to commit the murder. Jenny is baffled, she doesn't know who or what to believe, but Jenny usually figures things out because she's good at talking to people and finding things out one way or another, either by their answers or strange behavior.

While she's been hired on to try to find the killer, Pelican Cove is a finalist in the Prettiest Town in America contest and she butts heads with the one in charge of this and the one who's been hired to pretty up the town. She knows the cafe's owner can't afford to do all the repairs and pretty things they want her to do so she's trying to defend her also and help as much as she can.

This is a intriguing cozy mystery with many twists and turns. This story will have your head spinning trying to figure out who is telling the truth, who is lying, or as so many of those involved do, who is acting very well.

Jenny King finds herself as replacement bridesmaid for the hush-hush wedding of BFF Heather’s TV star cousin. When the groom jumps out of an airplane at the beginning of the wedding and has a surprise jumper join him things don’t start out great. The jumper is another TV starlit and unfortunately, her parachute doesn’t work and she falls to her death. Not the way a wedding is supposed to happen.

Now it is up to Jenny to once again butt into an investigation to find out why the girl was on the airplane (and dressed in a bridal gown), was she the intended target, and who would want her dead.

This is another solid cozy mystery by author Leena Clover. She has really developed the main character of Jenny into someone that you can’t help but like. Jenny is strong, persistent, faithful, and a pretty good amateur sleuth. She has caught the eye of both lawyer Jason and Sheriff Adam making the perfect little love triangle. The additional cast of quirky, fun-loving, and supportive cast of characters really add to the books witty storyline.
