With what happened at the end of the last book, I was a bit scared when I started this one. I have known and loved and indeed invested in the lives of these characters for about 7 years now and the way book 12 was left made me a bit nervous. I am not going to say any more about this in my review for this, book 13, apart from to say that I think the outcome is for the best.
Anyway... Our story opens with the murder of a woman. She is a nutrition guru and has a few bizarre and maybe wacky ideas about what people should eat to stay healthy. She has recently branched out into production of her own foodstuffs and it is her own product that she is murdered with. On investigation, it appears that her neighbour has more than a passing interest in her but when Jackson and Evens go to talk to him, their interest in him takes a whole new direction. Back with the murder victim and a photo on her phone brings this case a bit closer to home to Jackson. Then there's another murder and this time it's even more personal for Jackson as his brother Derrick has links with both women. But Derrick is sick, in and out of hospital with an unknown illness and surely, he can't be responsible for the women's deaths. Or could he?
Oh this story was fantastic from start to finish. Jam packed with all sorts of things that are very topical in the media and news at the moment but included seamlessly into the murders being investigated. Katie and Evans also have their own side battles to contend with, as well as Shack's monsters rearing their heads again. And then there's Jackson. Where do I start with him? But, don't get me wrong, the personal stuff that surrounds the main characters in the book is all relevant to not only the plot in this book but the ongoing series in general. The way that the author writes her characters means that I care about them and want to stay with them for the duration and that's kinda the point of a series of books. Never in any of the books in this, or any other of the author's series have I found the personal stuff to be intrusive.
Back with the plot and we have quite a few things going on around and about before we eventually find out the truth of what happened to the two women. It was a delicious journey from start to end which kept me on my toes and guessing throughout, and which left me completely satisfied at the end.
All in all, this is a great addition to an already great series and indeed back catalogue. But do yourself a favour, if you haven't read the previous books, please go back and start from book one. Yes, you can read this standalone but, as already mentioned, it's the characters that really make the series and you kinda need to get to know them properly for their backstories and development.

THE LIAR'S DEATH is an action packed thriller with a compelling storyline focusing the death of a young woman. Sellers' plot is full of surprises as clues unfold, Suspense and intrigue increase as readers follow Jackson and his team's investigation The author creates complex situations involving her key characters adding twists and turns to the developing storyline. In true Sellers tradition, her novel delivers intrigue and suspense causing readers to keep reading to find out out what is going to happen next. The main storyline follows the team's investigation of a suspicious death of woman found dead in her home. Clues don't seem to shed any light as to who, what or why someone would want her dead. "A Liar's Death" is a captivating, mind-blowing story with a surprising ending!

Detectives Wade Jackson, Lara Evans and Rob Schakowski (Schak) are called to the scene of a crime - a woman, Tayla Holton, is found dead in her home.

Jackson's brother, Derrick, has been in and out of the hospital for about six months and his doctor doesn't know what's wrong.

Evans ex boyfriend, Captain Stricklyn, is sexually coercing her - if she doesn't comply, he will get Jackson fired.

Another woman, Nicky Walker, is dead - it's Derrick's girlfriend - who killed her? Did she know Tayla?

Then Tayla's neighbor, Tony Barulla is found dead - looks like suicide - but was it?

Now a receptionist, Samir, who works at a pain clinic is missing...are these people connected?

Time is running out for Jackson and his team to locate Samir before she's murdered!

What happens next is spine-tingling and heart-pounding! It's a story of deception, sexual assault and drug addiction.

L.J. has woven a story that is intriguing, full of suspense and well-written. The characters she's created are true-to-life people; you actually care about them. I was absolutely hooked from the second I started reading it! I found it impossible to put down! Her books keep getting better and better!!

I am a huge fan of the Detective Jackson series! I've read all 13 books so far! When I started reading - my first thought was...HOW I'VE MISSED JACKSON!

On to book 14!!

A gripping thriller

A gripping thriller with many surprising situations, and unexpected twists. It's certainly not a story that you'll want to miss!

This was a story that many people that have chronic pain can relate with, including myself. Although most of the patients who have chronic pain adhere to the extremely strict medical treatments, as well as the even more strict regulations for the medications for those treatments, there are many who become addicted and seek other means for their medications. I have personally been treated by a few doctors who have tried to psychologically manipulate me into taking certain medications, Methadone being the one they mostly suggested, trying to make me believe that it was not addictive like most other opiates. Luckily, I had a pharmacy tech license that was required for my previous career, so I knew a lot more about these types of medications and the effects they have. I could go on, but what I really wanted to point out is that there are quite a few doctors who are willing to do things that are borderline illegal for their own reasons. Just be careful.

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

This book was totally awesome. As #13 in the series, I’m not exactly sure where the title came from but it really doesn’t matter. This was Jackson at his finest. Life is never easy for Wade Jackson, but he always manages to survive it. He had a few problems with almost everyone in the book this time. The book is well written, as usual and is fast paced. And his entire crew, even tho they are not real, are amazing upstanding people that I would be proud to know and call my friends. It leaves me hungering for #14.

Excellent book

I love the Detective Jackson series. Each book is full of suspense and mystery. And, with each book, all of the characters become more and more solid. This book was an excellent read, and I highly recommend the entire series. Each book is a standalone. Never a cliffhanger.

Another decent police procedural set in Eugene Oregon, although I nearly dropped it to 3 stars because too much stuff about Detective Jackson’s boring love life!

Good Read

Always enjoy a Jackson mystery. I was low key routing for Evans and Jackson. Interesting story twist. Ready for the next one.
