Alien Alliance #2

The Dim Zone

Rate this book
How far is too far?

Mercenary Yul Vrean is hired by billionaire CEO Mathias of Cybercore to bring back alien samples from a remote planet in the Dim Zone. It’s a region rife with murderous space pirates and slavers, the warlike Zikri and Mentera.

With no official leader designated, bad boy Regers butts heads with Yul. Shrouded in mystery, the expedition is jeopardized by competitive corporate interests and freakish alien attacks.

Yul and his space thugs suspect Mathias is not on the up-and-up as he expands his techno-empire. The future of cybernetics may rest on their ability to survive alien attacks and bring back the specimens. But how can they when Yul and Regers, enemies to the end, are swept off to far-off worlds, futuristic cities, and alien planets with only their skills as trained muscle, spies, and survivalists to protect them?

Can the revolutionary mechnobot technology developed by Mathias’s chief scientist, the holy grail of all AI, succeed in preventing the next galactic war and save the human colonies from warlike alien races?

Alien technothriller.

Fans of ‘Predator’ and ‘The Matrix’ will like this.

“How can any creature be so violent? How could they do this much for so little reason?”
The series continues with the ferocious battles with the aliens, this time with another main character, action packed from the beginning! New discoveries, bots and an alien in-depth and background highly appreciated, fast paced and gritty, intrepid and gripping persecution in space and in the Dim Zone.
I hope book 3 comes out soon!
I was given the ARC from the author and this is a voluntary review.

" The whimpering of the plants, the frenzied chattering of Zikri. "

"Bring back anything exotic or interesting, especially plants," were the orders given to the five man crew of the fast Alpha-explore ship, Albatross, by the man who had hired them - Mathias, the multi-million owner of a cybernetic company. And he sent them to collect samples on a miserable little planet, Xeses, in the Dim Zone, a place notorious for space pirates, the hideously tentacled Zikri, and the voracious Mentera. None of the crew had any idea why Mathias wanted the specimens: they could only find a planet full of ferms and the occasional grey butterfly there. But before the shop could leave for home, they were attacked ...

This book is packed with fight action, claustrophobic situations, revolting aliens and not much better humans, greed, double dealings, experimental laboratories, blood and dead bodies piled high. And hiding beneath this great pile of detritus, there's a pretty good engaging story, too. From the father inconclusive ending, it looks like a follow-up will be forthcoming. And yes, I'll be reading it. If constant battling for survival is your thing, this is definitely one for you

The Dim Zone by Chris Turner is an exciting action packed read that tells an other worldly tale. It starts out on another planet with different life forms. It's really cool to see something so imaginative and different from our world. The only thing is that it all feels really detached from the reader. Since everyone involved are just mercenaries or hired thieves that don't know each other there is no emotional involvement. It's hard to care if things happen to the rest of the crew because of this.

Not to bad a read

Not to bad a read. It did take me a little bit to get into as it is not my normal genre to read but I did enjoy the book and it kept decreasing so it can't be that bad. Try for yourself you never know like me you could find another author to follow

Roughboy mercs battle creepy aliens. It’s enough that they’re up against bloodthirsty creatures but the bad blood between them makes this a time-bomb of bloodshed and knuckle-gnawing suspense. Loved the premise, the world-building and sinister history of the aliens. Great story!

Lots of aliens and battle scenes. Ship-to-ship combat and close quarter alien fighting. The tension between the mercs grows as they are drawn deeper into their mission. Sets the stage for the next books in the series. Excellent story.
