Mere minutes after arriving at their Nantucket family beach home, 9-year-old Scotty Sullivan was out the back door, scrambling toward the shore, with Larry, the family dog—fast on his heels. Now late in the afternoon in mid-spring, the typical summer beach crowd visitors were still weeks away. Then Scotty became aware of an odd-looking object, hovering just above the crashing surf. In an age of hobbyist’s drones and all sorts of flying gadgets, he wasn’t overly concerned until the large flying object moved much, much, closer. A storm was brewing and dark clouds blanketed the sky. Nervously, Scotty turned and tried to spot his house—somewhere off behind the dunes—but it would be sixteen years before he’d see it again. a mind-shaking, blowing story" N C HansonIncredibly Inventive. - L. GordonAnother winner by Mark Wayne McGinnisAction, imagination, adventure, and wonderment all rolled into one. I don't know how Mark comes up with all his unique ideas, but I am glad he does. As with every other book that I have read by this author, I enjoyed this book greatly. I can hardly wait for book 2.In the meantime, I will start reading Ship Stranded on an alien world. I imagine another winner from Mark Wayne McGinnis. Mark's books have been some of the best science fiction books that I have ever read. Choose any of them and you won't be disappointed. I especially liked the Scrapyard series. Keep 'em coming Mark and I will keep reading them.-Dan R SigmonVery Believable Storyline! A Wonderfully, thought-provoking novel! What an outstanding novel! I REALLY enjoyed reading this book and was thoroughly engaged and interested in the way it unfolded!😊 Thoughtfully structured and detailed; I was transported into the story as if I were an actual character written into it! The science is well explained and elegantly detailed. The concepts and premise of the storyline are fully plausible to the point of believability.- GHIGGSBoy Gone by Mark Wayne McGinnisThis author really writes a good story that makes time stop and pages turn. I enjoyed every part of the book. I'm not going to tell you what the story is about because I'm not going to spoil a great time you are going to have read it. Yes, it's SciFi but written in a way that keeps your interest. It doesn't get you lost in a lot of stuff that you have to figure out, it is a story I wish I had written.- TomNASA explores scifi extraterrestrials / Fun Sci-fi Alien Abduction!Compelling, imaginative story with excellent characters and terrific alien culture. Refreshing, snappy, and sometimes humorous prose. Since I am from Massachusetts, the Nantucket location roped me in and wouldn't let me go until I finished this book. Of course, I read it too fast and was sad to find I finished it. This entertaining book is fun action adventure science fiction as it is meant to be! Can't wait for the next book in the series.- SFascinating Adventure Syfy StoryMark is one of my favorite authors, and Boy Gone is my favorite book of his (so far). Love all his books, though... Scrapyard Ship, Star Watch, USS Hamilton, and Ship Wrecked Stranded on an Aline World... to name a few. - Amazon CustomerGreat read, kept going until I was at the last ...Great read, kept going until was at the last page throughout the evening and late into the night. Great characters, great premise, it just flows until suddenly it's over and your wanting book 2 right then and there. I highly recommend it to all readers, not just sci-fi addicts lol.
Not read anything from this genre for a very long time but this popped up in my emails as being available from KindleUnlimited and the premise was enough pull me in. The story is great and the characters pull you in and encourage you to read more and more. Seemed as though it was gonna be a pretty long read in the beginning but the time flew by. Can't wait to read more. The storytelling and worldbuilding is superb.
I Knew Mark Wayne McGinnis Was a Great StoryTeller When I First Read His "ScrapYard Space Ship Series," & He Has Never Disappointed Me, Nor Any Of His Loyal Science Fiction Adventure Fans Since Then! Readers Are Going To Love This Series! Keep Up The Great Work!
I would have never In any way though of such a story. Mr McGinnis has provided such thought provoking story of how truly cruel we humans can be, yet show we truly can be.
This hack always puts a tired old twist at the end of the book to try to get you to read the next book. Cheap tricks like that is the reason I have never read more than two books from any of his series. If I had remembered his name, I wouldn't have read this book. The crap ending is what made me remember who he is, And that he sucks at writing.
I loved the whole premise but was bothered by a few things. When Scotty at nine years old met Seve and she explained things that I had a hard time in believing the story. A kid was going to accept and understand what she’s saying, he’s nine yet seemingly resigned right away to his fate. I do love a good saga with another book to follow but find they can be over long, too wordy to take up pages for a soon to come next book, just my opinion. Do I recommend this book? Yes! I have never read anything by this author previously and may just stick to this story. I’m “judging a book(s) by its cover” I don’t find the others as compelling to what I like as much as this cover prompted me to hit the buy button. Sorry author, titles and covers are what get me to click on one of thousands of books!
First off, no.... there is currently no sequel to this book. I do apologize for this. Will there be one? It depends. I ran into a big obstacle with this one. If the obstacle is removed the sequel will come.
I want to thank Tom for his review: "This author really writes a good story that makes time stop and pages turn. I enjoyed every part of the book. I'm not going to tell you what the story is about because I'm not going to spoil a great time you are going to have read it. Yes, it's SiFi but written in a way that keeps your interest. We hear of people being abducted by UFO's frequently. This book takes it a little further. Scotty & his dog Larry have been taken from the beach of their vacation home . His family finally believe they were pulled out to sea. The family is irretrievably broken. Is that what really happened? I have enjoyed the author's imagination with this storyline. Different species? Yes & they are fascinating. His characters are likeable. His reasoning for the abductions plausible . And best of all, not too geeky! Really enjoyed...waiting for the next...😉
Oh yes. Highly recommended for a good read. Like this style of saving mankind, even though we are so worthless as a species. Can you imagine letting mankind loose on another planted. Look what we've done to our world. Then you get some American jackass shooting first and never repenting thereafter. Why do people in power always think there is some insidious plot to screw mankind. We are big enough jerks by doing that ourselves. Good book and looking forward to the next one. Well done Mark.
This was a fun, interesting, and well paced read. The aliens are not flawless, and that makes the story more meaningful. The main character Scotty, develops well, yet the secondary characters could do with some fleshing out, which hopefully will come in book 2. The American response to the alien arrival sadly seems to be ripped out of today’s political headlines.
Have you ever heard of seen or read a bad book from Mark McGinnis? Me either. I typically do not care for alien abduction books, but this story has a ton of humanity and it . It's fun to read and like me you'll wish that he continues the series . I have always recommended this author and will continue to support him in his works ! Cheers …
A really enjoyable read. Some books I can put aside for a bit. Not this one though. I read it cover to cover with only a nights sleep between. I'm looking forward to Book II! McGinnis put a lot of twists and turns in this book about mankind, and how those in charge often shoot first and then realize you can't question the dead... but dont really care. Thankfully, not everyone in charge is a politician!
MWM. has. penned a SYFY. Novel about a young boy, who is playing with his dog, on the beach on Nantucket when an alien spacecraft materializes into being and collects the boy and his doy. They return sixteen years later to save the people of Earth from total annihilation. The hierarchy of the military believe they are a menace to Earth and shoot down a person carrier. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I could not put this down! The characters are amazing, the story captivating, and the whole book a real page turner. I,will be on pins and needles until the second installment comes out! Write man, write!
I had no idea what I was in for when I selected this but I'm glad I did. It a fascinating story of friendship, humanity and inspiration. The characters were interesting. The story writing quick and precise and exciting. I can't wait for book 2.
It is unusual to find this much originality in contemporary science fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and recommend it to anyone looking for something fresh!
I really enjoyed this book read it in 2 sittings. I really like the protagonist and I think the science fiction is very imaginative and most certainly plausible. I look forward to the next installment which I hope will not be too far away
This book is similar to other sci Fi stories, but is unique in the fact of the aliens being humans joined to alien physiology. Or whatever they would call it. Wonderful! Can not wait to read the sequel.
From the mind of Mark McGinnis. This book is the beginning of humanities adventure into the future, from disaster to new hope. We get to look forward to the next part of the story in the books to come. A true Science Fiction adventure.
Once again Mark Wayne McGinnis enthralls us from the very beginning! The impending extinction of humanity,, idiotic incompetent officials, can Scotty save humans from catastrophe?
A great new story from this great author. This is a fantastic new series the story is very interesting and intriguing can’t wait to see where this story goes.
The aliens are nice but don't get quite as much attention as they deserve. The humans who were abducted are far more interesting than the rest of humanity.
The significant characters are to me written well but the others are not really as believable as they could be. I did wish at one point that the bulk of humanity saved the aliens and abductees the effort of rescuing them. It was sad that abductees are having to apologize for their rescue effort.
There is an uneven feel to the story writing. In parts it's really good but in others, the stock characters show up and it loses something. The background needs some serious work, a lot of characters might be dropped and replaced by real people. Redeeming a vicious brute of a deputy was unnecessary and grated. It was "generous" but implausible against the character's past history.
I was curious how it turns out for humanity but I don't think that I will bother to find out.
This was an okay sci-fi start to a series that doesn't seem to be a series. The author says there might be more but he ran into an obstacle. So that kind of drops a star. As for the premise it is pretty good but I think the author wrote himself into a trap with the mission being an all or nothing it's down to the last minute to save everyone. There wasn't much given to show the progression and advancement of the "alien powers" I'll just say so to see that be the crucial crux in the plan makes it a rather fore gone conclusion. With that the suspense and foreshadow is rather limited in what can happen. Either humans are stupid or they'll do what's needed to survive. Eh...
I have read at least 6 of McGuinnis' books and as expected - no sex & well edited. 😊 No urgency felt in this book either - maybe because I was so disappointed by the pointless violence at the beginning - brief AND Graphic! I don't recall his stories being written to rile the reader. This one seemed 'distopian' too. Nope i won't read the next one. Rather reread "Scrapyard Ship." 🤐
I was doubtful I wanted to finish this book up to the 4th chapter. Despite my immense dislike for books written with foul language, I kept reading. The story developed well, intriguing characters, interesting tech. Good writing does not need foul language. Otherwise, it’s an interesting read.
Unsophisticated and predictable. Every once in a while you have that "am I reading the same book as other reviewers?" reaction. This was one for me. Characters are carboard, plot is thin and predictable, dialogue is stilted, the whole thing moves sort of slowly, etc... I never cared about the characters or outcome, and won't continue reading these.
