Hey, y'all!

A little background about me: I'm a 20-something queer person from California, currently in Oregon. I love to travel, talk with people, and dance. I don't know if I'm any good at writing, but I love it! Teaching middle school!

First review! Also, there’s a double entry for this book here in Goodreads, so I’m posting this review on both.

Sethtence is something I should’ve made when I was on tour myself: a travel journal. Its personal nature made me feel like I was Seth himself, and it helped that I went to the same places before, making the story feel more tangible as I pretended to retrace steps I never made and re-experience all those first times as if they were my own.

I read an ebook copy so it was difficult to jump back and forth from the main text to the accompanying appendix as the author suggested, so I just read through it in one go, then read the said appendix after. That last bit gave context to Seth’s anxiety, but it made me feel concerned and even more connected at the same time; I’m bipolar too.

Unlike most books which painted a story for me to watch, this book made me imagine I was someone else who happened to go through the same thing, and it was a wonderful, nostalgic feeling.

Background: I met Seth on Goodreads and added him after I read some of the reviews he made, and after I saw that we had shared interests in some books. When he posted on IG that he was publishing Sethtence, I thought it’d be neat to read a book made by someone I’ve only spoken to online. How often does that happen? - I’m glad I did.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and getting inside Seth's head with what was going on and all the little things and thoughts that you don't get when someone comes home and you ask how their trip was. My favorite part was definitely Paris. I studied French and French culture for years so I recognized almost all the places he mentioned. Also, how much was written and the detail was fantastic.

It's also kind of surreal reading Seth's thoughts while on this trip because I remember this year well. Also, looking back on his thoughts and feelings make so much sense three years later. It's amazing to see how much my best friend has grown since this trip, and I love him with all my heart <3

It was by accident that I stumbled over this little travel journal. Since my chronic disease keeps me from travelling more and more, I was dying to read this book from the very moment I first saw it.
It didn't disappoint me...

Right from the beginning all my old "travel feelings“ returned: the anxiety if all might go well, the insatiable inquisitveness evoked by all those magic places and the fun due to the weirdness of quite a few of the people you meet on your way. It's a great blend of travel experiences and I felt as if I'd been there.

Thanks a lot, Seth, for taking me along on your trip and for recalling what traveling is all about.
