When giant intelligent spiders take over their town, five junior high school students fight back by traveling the mysterious and dangerous web and crisscrossing the universe
Four kids with distinct personalities have to survive a world overrun by cosmic spiders. For a middle grade horror novel, this story is surprisingly dark. It's not afraid to go post-apocalyptic from page 1 and dang is it full of creepy moments. It's written in an easy, quippy, middle-grade style, but it explores some very adult themes and has a body count (without actual deaths). I started reading this book in fifth grade, but I wasn't ready for it back then. Now, I wish I had stuck it out, because this is one of the best 90s kid-horror novels I've ever read. Truly imaginative, truly thrilling. I can't wait to read the second half.
