Qui Treaty Collection #2-5

Alien Captive Box Set

Rate this book
Captured and sold to the highest bidder ~ four sexy stories of alien shifters and alien abduction romance.

The annihilation of mankind is held at bay only through the Treaty consummated between the Qui Empress and General Jaden, her human tribute. The Treaty ended the thirty year war between Earth and the K’lahn, military enforcers for the Qui. K’lahn warships evacuated the solar system by order of the Empress.

All human prisoners of war must be repatriated to Earth.

Generations of hatred, vengeance and enmity stand between humans and K’lahn. To avoid further hostility, the Empress selects three trusted Qui escorts to find and retrieve Special Forces soldiers sold by their K’lahn captors and sent to the far reaches of the Empire.

Qui pheromones can sedate, paralyze, or arouse. Alien shapeshifters, Qui assume an almost-human appearance and experience the world through human senses. Some Qui possess a telepathy stimulated by passionate love.

Surprisingly, humans have a sexual charge all their own.

Qui pheromone sensitivity is a double-edged sword and the former captives spark a powerful, sensual reaction. One by one, the Qui escorts discover the battle-hardened soldiers have captured their hearts. These rare couplings of human military officers and former enemies create a new understanding between the species, but Earth’s defiance of Qui rule incites rebellion across the galactic Empire, a volatile political mess.

This Alien Captive Box Set includes one short story and three novellas:

RELEASE BY TREATY

Release by Treaty:
The war between the humans and the Qui, a shape-shifting race of aliens, is over. With a treaty signed and put in place by the Qui Empress, all K'lahn are ordered to release their human POW's and return them to Earth. Colonel Abe Marcel is one such prisoner. Taken hostage after a failed mission, his fellow soldiers presumably dead, Marcel is weak, malnourished, on the brink of shutting down when he's released and taken into custody by Dol'ce, a member of the Qui race. Stuck in close quarters, their attraction to one another is immediately palpable; the Qui can't seem to resist the human pheromones, while the human males can't seem to resist the cinnamon-caramel essence given off by Qui females. Both are fighting temptation; Dol'ce, because she doesn't quite understand the feeling she gets from Marcel's scent, Marcel because he will be betraying his team if he were to succumb to pleasures from the enemy.

Despite this being both short and a continuation of a previously published story, Under by Treaty, it's in no way lacking any sort of details essential to "getting" this particular tale. I am super curious to know the backstory pertaining to the treaty and the war between humans and Qui, so I will most definitely be going back to read Under by Treaty to fill in any gaps and sate my curiosity. I'm also super interested in getting the Empress' story and how Jaden, previously Marcel's General, came to be the Qui Empress' consort. I've been warned by several people, the author included, that that story is darker and definitely more erotic than this story, and it's a warning I don't plan to heed. If the attraction to Dol'ce and Marcel is anything to go by, and their attraction was pretty darned hot, I can only imagine the sexy-times in Under by Treaty will set my Kindle aflame :)

Bottom line -- great sci-fi romance novella with a fair amount of steam between an alien and a human. I will definitely be continuing on with this series and also going back to the beginning by reading Under by Treaty.

Restrain by Treaty
Captain Bea Sullivan, because of a failed mission with her fellow human soldiers, finds herself in captivity. Not only a prisoner of war; Bea is also a prisoner of a much different, traumatic sort. Forced into the sex trade, Bea is subjected to countless horrors -- sodomized, beaten, endlessly raped, until her rescue. Ardent, a member of the alien, lizard-like Qui race, is tasked with delivering Bea back to Earth because of a treaty put in place by the Qui Empress. The war between humans and the Qui race is tentatively over, all surviving and imprisoned humans are to be rescued and returned to Earth.

Upon retrieving Bea, Ardent immediately begins nursing her back to health. He's also immediately fighting a very strong attraction: human pheromones are the Qui's weakness, much as the Qui's cinnamon-laced essence is a weakness to humans. Match made in heaven. Only problem is, despite their mutual attraction, Bea is still very much scarred from her time as a sex slave. She also loathes the Qui and K'lahn, for good reason. Ardent is fighting to keep his human guise, but it's a losing battle. He can't hold the form for much longer and he risks losing the trust he's built with Bea if she discovers his real Qui identity.

This novella series really packs quite a wallop -- despite the stories being so short, Stonor manages to cram as much sexual tension in as possible. I absolutely love the immediacy of lust and how each race can't resist the other, despite their seemingly pointless efforts at trying to fight the attraction. Restrain by Treaty also has a little more steam than its predecessor, Release by Treaty, with the addition of some very mild dom/sub play. Another aspect I enjoyed was Ardent's tender nature towards Bea. He was so very sweet from the beginning, and so very patient and understanding. He let Bea heal, aided her as much as he could, gave her what she needed, including space. Even though at the end, she's still not entirely healed, but she's miles away from where she was initially.

As with the previous novella in this series, I also recommend this one for sci-fi romance lovers who like a little steam. A perfect story when you're in the mood for something short and hot :)

Hunted by Treaty
Kayla Stonor continues her exciting space opera alien storyline in this third installment of the Qui Treaty novella series. In Hunted by Treaty, she brings something a little different to the table. Rather than have the humans already aboard a spacecraft, returning to Earth, her hero is on the run on an alien planet, Soa Te, fighting to both evade recapture and save his skin. Seriously wounded, navigating terrain completely unfamiliar to him with the enemy seemingly around every corner, Raiss Tyrone is fighting a losing battle. Lucky for him, he runs in to Crendea, a half-human, half-K'lahn woman, who is fighting her own battles. Together, they embark on a mission to hopefully return Tyrone safely back to Earth.

This novella series continues to get better and better with each new installment. I also love how Stonor brings something new and fresh to each story, rather than doing what so many other authors do by following a formula. Another highlight is the adversity that each pair of characters face. In Hunted by Treaty, both characters were flawed, scarred, borderline broken. Crendea was the target of hatred and bigotry because of her half-breed status; Raiss was tortured and disfigured and struggling to come to terms with the new "him". I adore imperfect characters and Stonor delivers on that aspect perfectly.

Each of these novellas can stand alone and the endings are complete, without cliffhangers. I recommend reading each and every one, even if it's out of order, because these novellas really pack a punch despite being such short stories. As with the previous two stories in this series, Stonor manages to seamlessly blend danger, steamy romance, and tons of action into such a short amount of pages and I always find myself wishing for just a few more pages whenever I reach the end.

I definitely recommend this installment, and the previous two, for readers who enjoy a short, steamy sci-fi read with sexy humans, sexier aliens, and a ton of depth.

Submit by Treaty
Finally rescued from captivity and freed from the brutality handed down from the K'lahn, Zeus Windsor is suffering from a major case of PTSD. Traumatized from his time with the enemy, Zeus can't function. Untrusting of anything not human, his road to recovery -- if there is such a thing for Zeus -- is going to be almost as much torture as he received from the K'lahn. Fortunately for him, his new master is much more understanding of his predicament.

In order for Zeus to regain any sort of normalcy, in order for him not to go berserk at the sight of anything alien, he needs torture of the...sexual kind. The darker the sexual torment, the better. Meseri, the Qui tasked with delivering him to his fellow rescued comrades, is the woman who will deliver his punishments. Thankfully, patience and empathy are two of Meseri's strongest traits, and she offers only enough sexual torment as he can handle at a single time. Slowly, but surely, Zeus comes out of the darkness from Meseri's oftentimes brutal intimate punishments. While he isn't completely back to the man he was pre-torture, he's much better than when he was initially rescued.

Aside from another awesome alien/human pairing in this installment, Stonor also gives a taste of what's to come concerning the treaty set in place between the humans and the Qui. The relationship between the two races is tenuous at best, the exception being the humans/aliens who have found consorts of the opposite race. But that doesn't mean that the relationships that have already been established in this series are rock-solid; with such tension between the two species, it seems that only time will tell if the partners have what it takes to endure. There's a new threat looming and it seems that war isn't over, not that it ever was.

Bottom line -- I'm sure I've said it about another novella in this series, but I think this one is my favorite so far. Or it could be #5. Or maybe it was also #3. That's OK, I love them all :) While each installment can easily stand alone, it's best to start at the beginning in order to gain full comprehension of the continuous story arc that runs through all of the installments.

**Many thanks to the author, Kayla Stonor, for providing a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

The missing members of the General Jaden's crew are being rescued on the order of the Qui Empress. Each story is better than the previous and yet they all come together in one Epically Galactic Erotic Romance. #spaceopera #eroticromance #oneclick #mustread
Each book is a crew member being Release/Restrain/Hunted/Submit.....By Treaty.

Release...
Dol’ce is one of the Empress' chosen to retrieve Colonel Abe Marcel from the Klahn bring him back to Earth. What Dol'ce encounters is one broken man who wants nothing to do with the 'Lizard's. However between her shapeshifting abilities and his scent, they will unlock passions and through some B/D and understanding, can Abe let Dol'ce release what is holding him captive in his mind and win his heart and soul.

Restrain...
Ardant’s mission from the Empress is to retrieve Captain Bea Solomon from a horrible enslavement and finds she is more than fierce and terrified of his winged form. To protect her and bring her back for the Empress unharmed, Ardant's deception could cost Bea more than just her sanity, it could cost her her heart. Completely thrilling and Total Alpha-Female, Bea's adventure across the galaxy will be both emotional and enlightening. But when the truth comes to light, will anything save the Captain?

Hunted....
The Empress' chosen one is having a hard time with her assignment, Raiss does not want to be found. But when he stumbles across a half-breed, it captures more than just his eye. Crendea may not like her heritage but when Raiss comes along and she finds herself wanting to help him, sparks fly and his trip across the galaxy will be one wild ride. Not wanting to go, not being able to stay, how will Raiss fair when the Empress and his heart are pulling him in opposite directions? Hang on to your seats for this wild run through the stars.

Submit...
Meseri is just amazingly stunning, fierce and completely duty/honor bound to her Qui Empress. The Commander takes her orders and carries them out 10-fold. The regard in which she deals with what task is at had is utter professional and precise. I am in awe of the way she carries herself and in her command.
Zeus is not a god, like his name-sake suggests, but a very broken and damaged soldier who HATES the lizards, ANY LIZARDS! After torture, punishment, pain, loss, humiliation, extreme degradation...Zeus is finally on his way home...but he is so broken and mentally unstable, it will take a gentle but fierce woman to bring him back from the brink.
Not an easy tale is told, but a beautiful reminder just how strong the human spirit and mind can be. Meseri and Zeus find their rhythm in space and tolerance is putting it mildly. Protect and deliver safely may be more than Meseri bargained for when she took this mission. And Zeus is so lost in the dark, it may be the light he needs but will his mind allow him to be one with his body.

Definitely read all the books in order...so you get the story as it unfolds and blasts your senses. This series is phenomenal and a definite #oneclick #mustread!! Can't wait to see what happens next! I hope she never stops this series!!

*A complimentary ecopy was given by the author in exchange for my honest review.*

I’ll begin by saying that I have developed a girl-crush on Kayla Stonor. Hehe. The woman made me blush. I really didn’t think that possible, I mean I’ve read some kinky stuff before but damn!! Then she tosses in the pain is pleasure vibe and I was hooked. Each story is different. I think what really got me, was the whole concept….Humans, unknowingly, giving off pheromones that attract these Aliens to us, & vice versa. How freakin’ neat is that? Made me ask if it could be a possibility, you know, in a galaxy far, far away. But seriously, I mean us, as a species, have barely reached the moon, yet, are we really alone? When you look up at a starry sky don’t you wish to know if there’s something more out there? It goes deeper but that’s neither here nor there. The question is, can these handful of soldiers who went out and fought for their home planet, Earth, only to get captured, tortured, and even killed, come back from the brink of insanity, with the help of the Aliens who want Peace between their species? Would you really be able to co-exist with said Aliens, knowing their kind have done what they done to your home, and to them? Now let’s keep in mind that the Aliens give off their own pheromones, and they’re shapeshifters. And when these soldiers each meet their rescuers, it’s like how Winnie The Pooh loves Honey, lol. Or cats in heat. A fat kid and cake. It’s hot, though. Kayla makes it real HOT!! Their true forms remind me of a faery or even like a fallen angel, but with scales and they’re either blue or green or blue-green, I especially love the wings!! Zeus thought Meseri was an angel. Speaking of Zeus, in his story, I felt like I understood the psychology of that better than Bea’s story. However, in messed up situations like these, it’s hard to say who had it more fucked up than who. In each story, you see all of them still trying to cope with what had happened to them. As traumatic as it may be, their recovery was also sexy and even on the sweet side. I really liked how each story tied up. It wasn’t a dragged out ordeal, where you lose interest. It holds a steady pace and you can tell how the author’s writing gets better from each story. Each book was a bit longer than the last, and as she improved, the stories did as well. You want more. I’ll always remember this series for for it’s uniqueness because the whole concept makes you question things inside your mind. I know, I know, It’s fantasy, but why not question things? And who says it can’t be dark and sexy at the same time?

Release By Treaty - I love this world and the interactions between the alien race and the humans. I was a little disappointed at how short the story was, it was almost like task done, so is the story. Would have loved to read more about the characters and had more story. Otherwise, everything else was very well written. Restrain By Treaty - Love this world and everything in it. Was glad to get a glimpse of the male alien species. Could have used a lot more interactions between the characters. The story was more of the individual fighting against themselves rather than working together to overcome their difficulties. Quick read and impossible to put down. More, more, more! Hunted By Treaty - Raiss Tyrone is on the run from his K'lahn captors. As a prisoner of war he is on the run for his life. He never thought his salvation would come in the form of a half-breed. Crendea is half-human, half-Klahn, but due to some cross genetics she ended up with the shape shifting ability of the Qui. Can Raiss overlook her genetic aberrations? Does Crendea give up her insecurities to have what she always wanted? Read on to find out. Don't miss the erotic tangling between these two edgy characters. Submit By Treaty - Submit by Treaty is the fourth book in the series and really starts to flesh out the behind the scenes plot that has been hinted at in the other 3 books. Zeus our hero is captured by Meseri and her K'lahn troops. He has been tortured and cannot remember what happened. Meseri helps him by subjecting him to a safe and much more relaxed form of the torture that he received. It really bothers her to subject him to this and she would much rather be basking in his pheromones that drive her mad with lust. They give in to the lust that their bodies feel and it is glorious all the way around despite how they feel about it. Upon arrival at the Qui empire, Zeus's body releases the message that he was tortured by the enemy to reveal. The message creates strife and Meseri interjects herself on his behalf. They have come a long way together and they want to become more than sex buddies. Can Zeus let go of his hatred of the lizards? Will Meseri allow Zeus into her heart? Will the Qui Empire be torn apart from the inside? Read on to find out! I received a copy of this box set in exchange for an honest review.

I was gifted an ARC of this boxset from Kayla, in exchange for an honest review.

Get ready for 4 amazing stories set in an a time when Earth is at war with races far more advanced than them, when prisoners endure treatment of harsh extreme's & how a treaty makes getting all humans back a number one priority. Inside this boxset you will find 4 stories, filled with to the brim with sexual tension, a variation of darkness, action, alien races & their customs... a journey on how each member of General Jaden's crew is retrieved from their captors. But I LOVED every second of each story.

In Release by Treaty, Dol'ce is tasked with the mission to retrieve Colonel Abe Marcel from a K'lahn planet & bring him back to the Qui Empress to rest & get better before the final trip home to Earth. But Abe is barley alive & to him there is no difference between the Qui & the Klahn.

In Restrain by Treaty, Ardent is tasked with the mission to retrieving Captian Bea Solomon, whom he finds at the mercy of a K'lahn flesh dealer. In order to save Bea from herself & her mind, Ardent traps himself in his human form to gain her trust.

In Hunted by Treaty, the local K'lahn garrison is hunting for Raiss, he's broken & bruised but on the run, he wants to escape, he's only chance may be in local half-breed Crendea.

In Submit to Treaty, Meseri is charged with capturing Lieutenant Zeus, who's on the brink of insanity, in order for the man to escape the war inside his head... Meseri is the key to getting his future back.

Read 2018. Review written 2023. The writing was good.

However, since reading this several years ago when it came out, I have learned some things. I don't have to read things I am uncomfortable with to challenge myself. I read this in a year when I was trying to read outside of my normal stuff - that year, I made a point to read gay romance, queer romance, added several Authors of Color (AOC) to my reading and have kept many of those authors in my reading and expanded from there. These books were added under reading about different kinks. But these books are different. There should be clear and specific trigger/content warnings beyond 'dark and edgy' - there is physical, verbal, and mental abuse, lack of consent, torture, rape, sadism. That goes a little beyond the bondage or S&M I was expecting. I believe the writer's description of her writing as 'not the usual romantic fluff' is disingenuous at best. They're not the usual, because this isn't romantic love. If the Queen were human, she'd be jailed and committed to a mental institution and torturing someone into loving you isn't love. There was no compromise, the FMC did not change or develop, the MMC was the one who broke and changed to accept whatever the FMC was willing to give him. They need therapy. Lots of therapy.
