A lost virgin vampire queen. Two vampire knights sworn to protect her.
It’s about to get very hot… and bloody…

Ever since her mother was murdered by monsters five years ago, Shara Isador has been on the run. Alone, scared, and exhausted, she’s finally cornered in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Out of hope with nowhere else to turn, she’s ready to end it all when two men come to her rescue.

They say she’s a lost queen descended from Isis, and they’re her Blood, vampire knights sworn to protect her. It all seems like a crazy nightmare, until the alpha offers his blood. Then she realizes she’s never wanted anything more. Except maybe his body… and his friend’s, too.

But they’re not the only ones searching for a lost queen. Shara must learn how to wield her new powers quickly and conquer her fears if she intends to keep them all alive.

“You’re my queen. You’re so far beyond alpha that if you ordered me to cease breathing, I’d die trying.”

This is a Reverse Harem book,
i.e. One girl, many guys. Why should you have one if you can have them all?

So, I have read my fair share of MMF, MFM and generally ménage books because you know love is love and passion is passion no matter the numbers and the combinations etc. I basically can read anything that it is written well and it can defend what it states BUT I honestly don’t understand what is the difference between ménage books and Reverse Harem books besides the cuter and catchier title.

Anyway, Shara is a simple nice girl who keeps running away from the monsters in the dark who possibly want to kill her like they killed her mother and father. She changes towns, jobs, rooms. She is very careful not to bleed and always uses salt to seal her room when she tries to be protected and a bit more relaxed.

Unfortunately one night the monsters manage to find her and two good looking men/knights/protectors will appear and rescue her. These will be her first Bloods and Shara will realize that she is truly a vampire Queen and in order to survive her enemies she needs to gather/call/find her harem of Bloods, men devoted to their Queen who offer blood and sex continuously and freely.
The key word here is “continuously”, so if you don’t like too much blood in your books better do not start this book.

Besides a few scenes that were too much even for me, generally it was not a bad book. It has an interesting twist in the vampire myth and I have already started book 2 in which more Bloods will find their Queen. The more, the merrier.

❌ Nope. That insta-lust is just not for me.

DNF at 25%

Shara has been on her own for a while now and she said that she’s never been attracted to anyone, and does not have any sexual experience. She also sees mysterious monsters that no one else can see and they are somehow tracking her blood, forcing her to move regularly to remain hidden.

She is saved from the monsters by two sexy strangers who call her Queen and she feels weirdly attracted to their blood, so it just all makes sense to her when they tell her that she’s a vampire. You know, because she’s always been different. Maybe I’m being picky here, but even if you felt different your whole life, it should still be a shock to learn that you’re a vampire.

Then, after drinking from both guys, because she wanted to and since she’s their lost queen they will allow her to do whatever she wants. She proceeds to ask them to both have sex with her because she just can’t resist.

So here we are at the 25% mark and she’s having a threesome with two strangers just because she cannot resist their blood and their sex appeal. The virgin is having a threesome as her first sexual experience. With two strangers she met 15 minutes ago.

Just as good, if not better than the first time, I read it! It’s not as bloody as I remembered, or maybe I’ve just read a ton of darker romances.

Shifters
Vampires
Blood sharing
MM/MMF
Intense, bodyguard heroes

“We are Aima, the ancient blood of Gaia. All royal houses descend from the Great Mother.”
This was a great beginning to the series! We have a young vampire queen who knows nothing about her kind or her role in this society, so we all learn together as the book is told.

The story starts with Shara knowing her period will start in a day or two. She mentions the smell of her blood will bring out the monsters. If I’m doing the math right, this book spans about four days. She’s on her period by the second chapter and still on it at the end.

I like the blend of ancient mythology mixed with vamp lore with a dark erotic feel to it. Please note, as the cover advertises, there is a lot of blood in this book. So much blood everywhere, dripping, sucking, rubbing, spraying. There is also the addition of her menstrual blood, that she shares with her men, so beware if that makes you squeamish.

As Shara Isador starts adding to her harem and learning new powers, I was a little concerned it would go all ‘Anita Blake’ on me and she’d start talking for HOURS and hours to justify the new sex thing they wanted to try...it hasn’t gone there yet, but I’m traumatized by those later Anita books so I’m wary.

I really liked her two knights or Blood as they’re called in the book. Their only goal is to protect and feed her. They’ve been alone for over forty years, searching for a queen, sharing blood and crossing swords.

*Rik is a huge alpha guy who can transform into a massive rock troll.
*Daire is the jokester of the group, he can transform into a purring warcat.

Everyone is sharing sex and blood.
“Take my blood. Take my body. Use me any way you desire. I’m yours.”
Lots of blood sharing, lots of sex, lots of history of the vampire society. MM/MMF

You'll all be relieved to know that swords were crossed! Oddly enough, though, I found myself not all that tingled by the crossing of said swords. It was kind of perfunctory rather than erotic. #sad

Rik and Daire are really into their newly found vampire queen who is also a virgin (for about 2.5 milliseconds), which I guess makes sense since she's the new component to their relationship, but still... Nevertheless, Burkhart did a good job representing them as bisexual. They live to serve their queen, love her and would do anything to protect her, but they also love each other and all three are into it, so kudos on that front.

As much as they are all horned up for one another, and they are, this story is more story driven rather than being erotica. Urban fantasy fans will enjoy this, especially those partial to vamps. Shara, Rik and Daire are vamps with the boys being classified as Blood of their queen. Burkhart does a great job building this world, adding in Egyptian facets right alongside Midwestern America details with a hefty dose of vampire politics that will likely play a larger role as the series progresses. While the vamps, or Aima as they're referred to, are at the forefront the Blood have the ability to shift into other beings and there are other paranormal, supernatural and mythical beings mentioned who will likely appear in future installments.

All in all, Queen Takes Knights is a good introduction to a series. I'm intrigued enough to want to continue with it, though I should warn those that are averse to polyamory will probably not enjoy it. These vamps share blood between each other OFTEN b>(read: messy, bloody sex); it's what gives them power. Sex and blood are symbiotic and Shara needs more Blood to both ensure her safety as well as increase her power so odds are she will be adding partners to her bed with regularity.

I keep waffling between 3 and 3.5 stars. I might come back and alter the stars after finishing the trilogy. Regardless, I would recommend this to urban fantasy, paranormal and/or MMF/MFM romance fans.

Good, Gross, and WTF moments.

Queen Takes Knights was interesting. Gross but interesting. Yes, at one point I threw up in my mouth. IN MY MOUTH PEOPLE!. I totally get that vampires love blood and shit.. but ew. PERIOD BLOOD? #no #never

Also, comparing blood to wine or vice versa?? #NONONONONONONONONONO. That will never be a thing, don't make that a thing!

Other than that yuckfest, the smut was good. The story was interesting and kept me engaged. I just did not like all the blood talk. Oh, and the "My Queen" shit. That needs to stop because it was getting annoying as fuck reading that. If I wanted to waste my day away, I could've counted the amount of times that phrase was used.. but since I don't want to do that ever - Idgaf. I just don't want to see the words My Queen ever again.

Her name is Shara people. SHARA. I get that she's a queen... but she has a name. Use it. I liked her and the two guys but other than that.. I'm just kind of waiting for fresh blood. No pun intended.

Overall, I came for the smut.

¡¡¡ VAMPIRES !!!
How can I NOT want to read this baby?

Queens, vampire warriors (aka Blood), magic, shape shifting, monsters and hot sex? Well, just take my money already!

Shara is running from “monsters” - same monsters that killed her parents- unaware of knowing she is a vampire Queen. (How badass is THAT!)

A Queen is a female vampire who gets power by feeding on her Bloods ( and her Bloods gets power from feeding from their Queen) Shara is attacked yet again by monsters and is saved by her very first two Bloods. I say first BECAUSE THIS TURNED OUT TO BE THE START OF A RH SERIES AND I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW, can you tell? 😅

I found this storyline beyond captivating. My only “oh no please don’t” - was the fact that Shara fell into bed with the vampire hunks so good damn quick. She was so accepting of them, and their “explanation” of what she was and yes I know she has powers, but I like it when the female lead tell them to... well...fuck off”?
Wouldn’t you be like “wtf you mean I am a vampire Queen, you creep!”

That aside - THIS BOOK WAS SO UNIQUE! I need to read the rest. It’s that simple.

Now go away, so I can go and spend my money on the rest of this series.

I was wrong, and I'll be the very first person to admit it! When I saw that this book series was recommended in my Reverse Harem Facebook group I decided to read it, but prepared myself for another let-down of epic proportions. However, after the first 10 pages I was officially hooked, and there was nothing I could do except keep turning the pages.

description

Shara is constantly trying to outrun and outsmart the monsters that keeps following her. She’s lost first her dad, then later on her mum, to these creatures that keep lurking in the dark. Shara has noticed that when she’s on her period the monsters seem more aggressive, so she does her best to not leave any traces of blood and does what she can, to always stay a few steps ahead.

As Shara is all alone in the world she keeps working minimum wage jobs in order to survive. One evening she’s finished work too late and she’s caught off guard outside, in the dark. When everything seems lost she’s approached by two men. These two men fill Shara in on what she really is, a vampire Queen.

When Shara starts walking the path of her destiny she learns that she’s the last daughter of Isis and in order to survive, Shara needs to call more protectors, also called Blood, to her side.

I love this book, it's characters and the amazing world Joely Sue Burkhart has created within these pages. Their world is set in modern day America but as the story progress it’s mixed with ancient Egyptian mythology. Joely puts a lot of focus on the vampire politics, which she does a great job of explaining, without it being too overwhelming, so it’s not hard to keep up.

The heierachy described in the book is amazing and I do love that everyone knows their place which helps to avoid testosterone fights within the ranks. Once a Queen has chosen to take a Blood, said Blood will get the ability to shift into another being.

Shara is an absolutely phenomenal character. She’s down to earth, hardworking, independent and she handles pressure like a pro. On top of that she inspires loyalty and love. Her first two Blood, Rik and Daire are great in their own ways and their shared love not only for Shara, but also for each other, makes the story even better. Even though, I love Shara I'll also be the first one to admit I do find her stubbornness a tad exhausting at times! She does show a bit too much ignorance when she makes a vow that goes against her very nature However, in my humble opinion Joely rectifies this spur of the moment vows in a very refreshing way!

So here's to the former virgin Queen, may she get her King in the second book

WARNING: This book contains detailed sex scenes with M/F, M/M, M/M/F scenes, along with a strong adult language use, so I wouldn't recommend this series if you're easily offended. If not, I personally think it suits the world created here, and I don't find it cheesy or forced!

I needed something different so I didn’t get into a slump and picked this book up. It’s short and a fast read. The story was ok but just jumped super fast from I’ve been on the run and am terrified to oh your different and your blood is calling me I think I will drink it and have sex with you. I kept reading so not horrible just not as good as I hoped. I’ll probably move on to the next book to see what happens next and determine if I have figured out some of the mysteries. Stay tuned!

This was blasphemy, although not in the way you probably think. Let me explain.

It is blasphemous to have such elements to work with, if not to get a great story to at least get an interesting one, and absolutely fucking it up. Like royally fucking it up.

We get a new spin on vampires:

We get an interesting sexual dynamic:

But do we get justice for any of the above? No. Not even fucking close. Such great elements but left to trickle down the drain.

I will give points to the fact that the POV changes were marked every. single. time. And teh characters weren't awful but they got half burried under stuff as mentioned above.

Honestly, it had such potential but was wasted. For the record I wlli continue on with the series cause I'm wired like that adn cause I hold hope it will improve since the length increases. Yes I am aware of what could go wrong with the lengthening, still.

Buy this book now. Erotic, riveting and tension filled, this newest series from Ms. Burkhart is fantastic. It is all I hoped for and more. I am breathless with desire and excitement. The story starts out a little confusing as Shara is on the run from monsters no one can see but her. She is an average woman who has lost her beloved parents and staying just one step ahead of monsters who killed them. She missteps this last time and didn't run soon enough. This is a problem as it looks to be the end for her. To her surprise two gorgeous men appear out of no where to rescue her and insist she is theirs.

For readers who enjoyed The Black Jewels Trilogy: Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, Queen of the Darkness by Anne Bishop, this is the erotic adult version for you. It contains a similar theme with a woman who needs blood knights to help protect her. For those who enjoyed the unfinished
Monère: Children of the Moon by Sunny, this is a series not to be missed. Because Ms. Burkhart's unique writing voice brings to life a new mythos of how vampire queens come into existence and how they create their queendoms.

This first one book is non-stop action as it sets up an incredible new world where Shara is not only a queen vampire, but a descendent from a mythical line. What I liked most about this book is how Shara is on a self discovery journey. Everything she's ever known about her life seen through a different perspective makes more sense. Her new world frightens her and yet it excites her as her instincts kick in.

From a character perspective, I love Shara. She is a down to earth female who is hard working and independent. She handles pressure well and she inspires loyalty. Her two knights in shining armour, Daire and Rik are so lovable. Their horror of how Shara lives and does without is a constant source of amusement for me. Their love for each other is a nice touch which makes this story even hawter for me. Speaking of hot, the sex in this story is blazing hawt. The sexual chemistry between the three is so good. The erotic scenes are vivid, sensual and filled with yearning. Lest a reader thing this is just one sex scene after another, it is not. There are fighting scenes, reveals, intrigue and character growth.

Another reason why this series is promising is because it is a progressive one. This is my favourite kind of story because of the character growth. I'm invested in Shara and I want to see where she goes as her powers grow. It will be interesting to see how she handles more knights coming to her aid. Right now, it is a tight circle of three. Does it need to be more complicated? It appears that it might due to vampire politics. Politics is the bane of every society.

I can't wait to see what happens next. This is not a series to be missed. Highly recommended to urban fantasy readers who enjoy an erotic spice to their stories.

*I voluntarily read an arc

Holy shit. A world where women hold all the (impressive) power, unapologetically blood-soaked vampire sex, and guys who tell you that you never have to clean anything? Sign me up for this fever dream.

4.5 stars The series, which I'd categorize as erotic paranormal romance, is on Kindle Unlimited atm. https://www.amazon.com/House-Isador-B...

This isn't going to be for everybody, but I'm so glad I took a chance on it. The writing is so evocative, with intensely visceral descriptions of wielding power, blood lust, and magic. I've never felt closer to being a vampire myself. :D

Idk i only cared about what was going on in this when there was smutty stuff going on, the plot line was fine and i loved the way things were set up- that she gets these “bloods” or knights coming to her and starting a rh. I loved the heroes and heroine. The smut was great, but i wanted more smut and less weird plot line

So.... I see that a lot of people liked this book (and it has been recommended to me several times). But I did not like it...

It has a bit of a Queen of the Damned feel to it (Egyptian Gods and vampires, vampire politics, etc.), but while that part intrigued me the execution of the book was repetitive and the characters were extremely one dimensional (seems to be the current theme for most of the books I have read recently, I am just aching to find a character that actually makes me feel any kind of investment towards them, instead of just an acknowledgment of their presence, is that too much to ask?).

Let me summarize this book in one sentence: "Let's drink each other's blood, while we fuck." Then rinse and repeat in as many creative or repetitive ways as possible. That is 95% of this book, with about 5% story.

Spoilers

Guys, I really tried. I read the first and about half of the second, but I just can't do it, I can't even make myself finish the second. I am giving it 2 stars because I like the premise (I read and liked most of Anne Rice's books and thought it would be fun to read an RH version of something similar to that) and I wanted to like this book. But I just couldn't do it.

I loved this book. Mostly because it jumped right into the smut. Lol.

Shara is a young girl on the run from monsters. She hasn't had a proper home since her mother was killed by the monsters when she was 17. At the start of this book she's in Arkansas whorking at a cheap motel. she gets attacked by the monsters and gets saved by two seriously hot guys. Who she comes to find out are her Blood. And that she's a vampire queen.

She jumps right into bed with them. Learning the ways of being a vampire. And finding out all types of lies that were told to her her entire life. Poor girl.

Alrik and Daire are her Blood. They take care of her. They feed her. They protect her. And they have super seriously hot sex. Lol.

The ending of this was kind of anticlimatic. But I'm still super interested in reading more of this series. :D

Wow... hope you aren't squeamish.

Because if you aren't, Holy shit!

I am so into it. Very sexy, but surprisingly heart warming for the amount of blood flowing all over the place.

I am also very intrigued by the paranormal and fantasy angles. I have no idea where its going next, but I know the harem is going to grow.

So, let's go, bitches!!

This was book 1 in "Their Vampire Queen" series. This book was totally different than what I thought it would be. Shara Isador has been on the run every since her mother was killed five years ago. When she gets tired of running and gives up she meets two men rescue her and tell her that she is a vampire Queen. I was surprised that I liked this book so much I don't read a lot of books that have a lot of blood in it. The sex scenes in this book were hot although the blood thing I could have did without it. I love reading menage reads and I was surprised it was my favorite type m/m/f. This was first time reading this author and this book did have a dew errors in it. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I'm so glad I read Just Josie's review because I really enjoyed this book <3

Queen Takes Knights convinced me when I knew it was going to be a reverse harem story since I've never read about that, so I was very curious. And although this book in particular doesn't have it (I think it starts on the next one), it was still vey entertaining.

"The fuck I was going to stand here and wait for my men to save the day"

I adored Shara! How she didn't feel like a princess that have to be rescued, and how powerful she was without knowing it. However, I'm still not sure to what extent her powers go but we probably will be reading more about it on the second book.

Then there were the Bloods, Alrik and Daire. I really liked how not only they were "vampires" but they also could transform in other creatures. Even though that was really cool, my favorite thing about them was how they waited everytime for Shara to be alright with what they were doing. There is nothing better than that in this world !! Everytime they did it I was like "yees, now I would want them even more" <3

There were only two things I didn't like, how quickly it was for Shara to start trusting the Bloods and the fight scenes.

But nothing of that really mattered because by the end, I couldn't believe it was almost over, I just wanted to continue reading! Hopefully, I'll get the second one soon :D

PD: I just read the title for the third book, Queen takes Queen, and I'm all here for it !

This really was the most incredible shit.

This book cover deserved a much better book.

The Preacher Man of the PNR/RH genre.

I recommend everyone wastes their time with a book like this every once in a while because it's almost like calibrating your own rating system; it's good to see what is out there that is actually terrible so that other books become better just because they are not this book. Also books like this are fucking hilarious, so if you need a good laugh, look no further.

So this book was Hott AF. I had True Blood vibes throughout and they were not shy about fucking, biting and bleeding all over. Shara has been on the run since the death of her parents and has no idea she’s a vampire let alone a Queen. She basically has a nanosecond to process that information before that insta-lust/love kicks in. As for this book Shara only has two men but it’s clear there will be more and I’m all for it. Not only that but her men are not afraid to love one another 😍 The book was rather short but it was a great start to what I’m sure will be a long journey for Shara. The guys pledge themselves to her as her warriors, protectors, lovers basically anything she needs or wants them for. Both are also shifters and I loved that they were unique races. As a direct descendent of Isis Shara is supremely powerful and has barely come into her powers. Watching her burn her nemesis up from the inside out was fucking awesome I will say!! I can’t wait to see what else she can do but more than that I can’t wait for her to add to her harem because while two is nice, more is better especially when the love is spread all around 😏😏
