Fantastic creatures. Supernatural adversaries. A vast new realm of possibilities. Hardened and friendless, Wynn is approached by Phillip, a tall, dark and clumsy stranger who claims she is destined to become apprentice to an ancient prophet who dwells in a forest filled with extraordinary creatures. If she accepts this proposition, she is to be trained to follow in the prophet’s footsteps, not only moving in supernatural power but seeing into the time that has been and is to come. Yet, not all is as it seems when she arrives at the cabin that is “ever so slightly alive,” where the fireplace lights itself and a vanishing door leads to other worlds. But it is Maera of the Wood Beguiling and her Secret Circle of Southern Sorcerers that has Wynn anxious for the safety of those she is coming to love. As danger arises, she must discover a means to step into the fullness of her abilities or see her new life destroyed by a sinister, age-old enemy who’s been preparing for decades.
Cassandra Boyson is the author of several Amazon bestselling Christian Fantasy books including the Seeker’s Trilogy, Prophet's Apprentice and Singer's Sword. Her books focus not only on thrilling and heartwarming entertainment but the matchless friendship of God.
Here we find proof that fiction can wander far from doctrine yet share Truth. The Apprentice is a wonderful character in a tale which is full of marvelous people and things. This story brings a lot with it to entertain and edify. You'll like it.
This is one of the best Christian Epic Fantasies I've read, I was SO sad it was over I wanted MORE!!! Thanks to the Author, Cassandra Boyson, for her incredible ability to draw you in and feel like you're in the "book" as one of the characters! Bravo!!! Can't wait for more from this author!
I read the first series that Cassandra wrote, The Seekers, and really enjoyed it. I didn't realize when I started this one that it would correlate with the other. How exciting to re-meet some of the characters from the other stories.
Wynn is an orphan who has learned how to survive in a rather mean world. One day she is traveling in the woods and she meets a man who tells her that The Prophet wants to see her - she will be his apprentice. Little does she know what that will mean! The Great One wants her for His own and He wants to give her the power to change her world! Phillip is the second son, but because his brother ran away from home he is being groomed to be the heir - and he doesn't like it one bit. He is tall and lanky and clumsy, but he has a very kind heart and he thinks of others before himself. Wynn and Phillip get to become good friends throughout the story.
There is action and wee bit of romance, but a good Christian message too.
This is a clean read, although there is one statement that, although appropriate, could have been stated differently because the way it was stated it sounded like a cuss word rather than being the truth!
3.5 stars I really liked this, albeit, I did find it a tad long. But that was more of my own impatience I believe. This was my first read from Cassandra Boyson and I'm not disappointed in the least. I'm a sucker for spiritual novels about battles between the seen and unseen and this hit home for me! I understood Wynn very well and her doubts about her own significance. I loved her road to discovering who she truly was and how the Great One saw her. Phillip was endearing and kind. His character was meek and adoring. If only I could find someone so!! What a great tag-team they made. The Prophet was also kind and endearing. I was sad to see him leave Wynn the way he did. But I understood his desire to go "home." This was a great read! Only one profanity and many may argue with me about that and that's fine. Lots of action, no gore or bloodshed, plenty of adventure and battles. Fun book!
I liked a lot about this book. The story is good and the writing is, for the most part, good. However there are a few serious issues which brought the rating down.
The book is too long and wordy. Several things and ideas get repeated frequently. Too much happens; a lot of events should have been cut. The villains are too basic and foolish. I understand this is Christian fantasy and Christianity says the devil always loses, but even the Bible shows him as intelligent and cunning. The antagonists here are just dumb and do not seem to make any backup plans.
The Prophet’s Apprentice was an enjoyable story. The timeline was a little off from “The Singers Sword”, but as the author was dealing in time, who am I to judge! I actually enjoyed the character of Phillip more than that of the apprentice. His changes were more subtle and more indicative of real life. The apprentice herself, Wynn was a character I at times had a hard time relating to. Overall though a really enjoyable read!
It's every man's tale, this struggle of who you believe you are and who you are called to be, but this journey is so fantastically told, it is awe inspiring. It does, in fact, inspire its reader to look beyond and dare to become more by having enough courage to surrender. A great read.
I was looking for a good fantasy novel that reflected Christian themes, and this fits the mold quite well! Although it does contain sporadic typos, the dialogue is stilted, and the beginning of the book seems almost amateurish, it has a good pace, a great story, fun characters and great moral lessons. Despite its flaws, this is one novel worth picking up.
A beautiful, enchanting story. I love the genuineness and sincerity of Wynn and Phillip. The prophet is easy to love and the relationships between the characters are captivating. Highly recommend!
This book was an absolute delight to read. Loved every word of it. I can’t wait for more of these characters and whatever new characters come to know the Great One.
