An Omegaverse Story

Two broken hearts…one perfect fit.

Alpha Morris Danvers likes his quiet life as a paralegal and as the uncle to his beta brother Morgan’s infant son Aeron. Raised by an abusive sire, Morris and Morgan have relied on each other for years, and Morris doesn’t trust himself to do right by an omega mate. When a tragic accident leaves Morris alone to raise a baby, he reaches out to his boss Ronin Cross for help—and gets more help than he ever imagined from Ronin’s mate and their friends. But Morris can’t take bereavement leave forever and Aeron needs a caregiver.

After surviving an abduction and months of torture, all omega Jaysan Rowe wanted was to give away the baby he never asked for and move on. But after months of acting out, Jaysan finally hits rock bottom on the one-year anniversary of his child’s birth. Desperate to get his act together, he meets with an alpha who needs full-time daycare for his infant nephew. But the instant Jaysan sets his sights on little Aeron he knows: Aeron is his biological child. Even Morris’s nose can tell the pair belongs to each other. His nose also tells him something even more shocking: Jaysan is his bondmate.

Both men feel the bond, but neither is ready to mate, period, so they come to a business arrangement. Jaysan wants a relationship with Aeron, and Morris needs a sitter. It should have been perfect, except for that pesky mating bond. A bond that draws them together, over and over, no matter how hard each man fights it. Jaysan swore long ago he’d never mate or let another alpha touch him during heat—except everything about Morris makes him feel safe. Wanted. Whole. But Morris deserves an unsoiled mate, not someone as dirty and used as Jaysan, and Jaysan will do anything to prove it to the stubborn alpha…even if it means giving up his son a second time.

NOTE: This is a non-shifter Omegaverse story with alpha/omega/beta dynamics, heats, knotting, and mpreg. In this world, omegas are second-class citizens with few civil rights and almost no protections under the law. Trigger warnings for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This series is best read in numerical order.

This is the 5th book in this series, which I bought for myself.

The book focuses on Jaysan, an omega who was kidnapped and held captive as part of the fight ring, and who chose to give up his son for adoption upon birth, unable to love a child born of rape.

The child in question was adopted by a beta couple, who tragically passed away, and is now living with his uncle Morgan, an alpha. Morgan hasn't had an easy childhood, abused by his alpha father, and scared to death that he will behave similarly if he were to chose a mate.

A year after Aeron's birth, Jaysan is not in a good place. He's missing his son, regretting giving him up for adoption, and in his terrible state of mind makes some bad choices. After a wake-up call, Jaysan decides to apply for a position as a caregiver to the child of an unmated alpha.

Upon meeting Morris, Jaysan realizes two things - Morris is his bondmate, and the baby, named Aeron, is his son.

Morris and Jaysan are not interested in mating, for different reasons, and their relationship is uneasy for a while. They are both resisting the mating bond, and it nearly leads to tragedy.

I loved how the author continues to expand on the overall plot of this series, while focusing each book on a separate couple, as well as the strong chosen family the omegas have built for themselves, with their respective alphas. They support and embrace each other as friends, as brothers, and continue to strive to better the lives of omegas in their province by challenging existing laws and speaking up whenever they can.

This is a great series.

I really disliked Jaysan and his whole a hate the world attitude and coming over smelling like another Alpha to prove a point to Morris was beyond hurtful and so spiteful! So not my favorite one in series because of my dislike of Jaysan.

If you follow this series, you know the stories follow a general formula and this is no exception, but that doesn't make the story any less entertaining. I wouldn't suggest reading this as a stand-alone story, although you could since any necessary background is given. Again, be aware of the trigger warnings. The story is set in a society that has accepted abuse of omegas over many years so there are a lot of references to that for a number of characters.

Omega Jaysan has been around for the last couple of stories after being rescued from the underground fighting ring. I already felt for him going into this story and my heart just broke for his pain at the start of this story, but finding his son sets him on a whole new path in life. Alpha Morris is new to the series, but his story is no less heartbreaking as he faces huge changes in his life. While I expected the omega who feels broken, Whole puts a spin on the relationship by adding an Alpha who feels broken as well.

This was a very emotional read and a great slow build to the men finding the strength to take a chance on something that feels so right, but scares them as well. Again, A.M. Arthur surprised me with a twist at the end when I thought I knew what was going on with a certain character (and I am hoping to see his story in a future book). I'm glad each book also provides plenty of time with and updates on the couples from prior books.

I'm happy to know there will be more to come in this series and I hope to see some more of the fight for omega rights and freedoms in those books as well.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Whole is the fifth book in A.M. Arthur’s omegaverse Breaking Free series. The books interconnect in that the characters frequently appear in each other’s stories and they are a pretty big group at this point. There are also some plot thread points that cross books, so I think it is overall helpful to read these in order, but you could probably follow along here without reading the entire series. That said, Jaysan has been a series regular from the start as he is one of the omegas who was kidnapped and part of the fight ring. We have seen him on the fringes of the group, still facing a lot of anger and not quite fitting in, and, as the book starts, Jaysan is still facing a lot of emotional challenges. However, being reunited with Aeron goes a long way to helping him and it is nice to see him happy here and coming out of his shell.

Once you get past the set up, which is kind of crazy but I could go with it, this story is mostly focused on two men who each think they are not worthy of a partnership who find themselves falling for one another nonetheless. We see the slow progression of their relationship, and I think the pacing works here to establish a connection between them and give them a chance to learn to trust one another before moving on. Jaysan has the biggest hurdles, as he worries what Morris will think of him given his past. But these guys are sweet together and things come together well.

Another great addition to this series! This book pulled me in emotionally from the first chapter and I could not put it down after that.

It was heartwarming and sweet but at the same time sad at times and emotional. I am so happy Jayson got his HEA. When Jayson is reconnected with Aeron... holy moly so many feelings! I enjoyed getting to know Morris and his backstory and I loved how open and honest he was with Jayson. And wow their heat chapter was whew...fanning myself over that.

The author does an amazing job with the different POVs, and bringing in past characters POVs a little as well. The support system from the side characters in this series is great and makes me love the book that much more.

This is a great book and series and cannot wait to find out whose story is next!

Whole (Breaking Free #5) by A.M. Arthur

M/M - Male Pregnancy
Triggers: Abuse, adoption, death, talk about rape
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
I suggest reading the previous books as there are several characters who made repeat appearances.

Morris is an alpha who grew up without a great role model for how an alpha should treat their partner. His childhood consisted of abuse and more abuse. When him and his brother are able to live their own lives, Morris knows deep down that he will not want a mate, but is happy to play uncle to his brother's adopted son. When tragedy strikes, Morris will need to rely on his friends to help him heal and teach him how to raise his nephew.

Jaysan has had a tough road. He was imprisoned and made to fight in a gambling ring, abused and ultimately made a sacrifice that he might not have been ready to make. He is surrounded by friends and members who were also systematically abused, but he is having difficulty opening up and truly healing. When he needs to feel, he seeks out dangerous situations.

When Morris finds himself needing a nanny, his friends suggest Jaysan. What they didn't know was that they were destined to be together. No matter how hard they fight against their bond, both have to decide if the risk is worth it. They both bring to the relationship their own issues and neither is without reason.

I enjoyed this story a lot, but found that sometimes, Jaysan was a little annoying in his communication style and Morris was almost too accommodating. However, overall, this was a good read with great secondary characters and it showed both main characters' ability to heal and grow from their experiences.

Whole is the 5th installment in the Breaking Free series. While I suggest reading in series order, as there would be confusion if read as a standalone, once you have a feel for the world-building, you can pick up a book in the series at random without any confusion. Curious to read the newest release, I skipped book 4 without any confusion.

Without going into book report mode, this is mpreg, which features alpha, beta, and omega as genders, with specific gender roles, which obviously showcase stereotypes/gender roles/sexism/bigotry that has plagued specific genders/orientations in our history and in today's political climate. While this is the foundation of the series itself, the romance between the two narrators is the focus.

Jaysan is one of many who had been kidnapped and used in an illegal fighting ring, forced to fight other omegas, with the loser being assaulted by the alpha who purchased the right. Omegas have little rights in this world, even as an adult, Jaysan has to have guardians until he's mated.

Morris is an alpha who is struggling with the loss of his beta brother and brother-in-law while raising his nephew.

Morris and Jaysan are thrown together in a fated fashion, Morris needing someone to care for his new ward and Jaysan needing independence and a pathway in life. This sets up the angst, as neither male wants to be mated.

While I enjoyed the novel, which had all the feels of a hurt-comfort read for both sides, and there was angst abound, there wasn't much going on otherwise. It was heavily focused on the building of the relationship, which I appreciated, but spent loads of time with both narrators ruminating things to redundancy, slowing the pacing down and creating a feel of a much longer read. What little conflict felt out of place, slightly forced, as if thrown in there for some added excitement.

All the warm and fuzzies, the heart-clenching emotions were there, but dampened as the book crawled to a foregone conclusion.

I highly recommend this series to mpreg fans, especially new readers to the sub-genre, as the mpreg portion is a given, not explained in a scientific way or explained at all really. I also recommend to those wishing to read a take on gender roles and how they hobble us as a society.

Jaysan and Morris

Lovely story about second chances at a safe and happy life. Jaysan and Morris both had hard, painful lives and neither wants to mate. Fate has something else in store for the pair, and it’s a sweet journey filled with caring, compassionate friends and family. A.M. always writes amazing characters that you fall in love with. I adore seeing the previous characters in a series resurface.

Loved, Loved, Loved!

The fifth book in the Omegaverse series, can be read as a stand-alone, but to completely understand Jaysan’s story, I’d recommend reading the entire series. My love-hate relationship with Jaysan ends with love!

The story of Morris and Jaysan, who have both known loss, is both heart wrenching and angsty, but so worth a few shed tears. These two fight the mating bond tooth and nail, but they manage to find happiness and love!

Highly recommended!

This is book 5 in the Breaking Free series, and it would help you GREATLY to have read the other books first. I mean you SHOULD read them, because they are so bloody good, but for the full enjoyment of this one, it's probably best you do. You need to know how Jaysan got to this point in his life, and what happened to him, cos it ain't pretty. I'm not sure is Morris popped up along the way, he may have, and I just didn't register him.

A year ago, Jaysan made the biggest mistake of his short life, and gave up his newborn baby for adoption. He didn't even see the child. Now, on the child's 1st birthday, Jaysan does something to feel, to feel WHOLE again. Of course, that doesn't work so well, and his foster parent takes him to the emergency room where Jaysan catches the wiff of the most delicious basil scent he ever smelt. On the worst night of his life, Morris catches the scent of roses on the emergency room and his protective alpha instincts kick in. He has no idea who this young man is, but he is hurt and he is Morris'. But both Morris and Jaysan have sworn off mating, both men feel they are not good enough for another. However, Morris needs a carer for his newly orphaned nephew, and Jaysan needs a job. Then Jaysan meets Aeron and Jayson knows that this is HIS baby, the one he gave away. Morris knows it too, judging by the mixed scents and seeing aeron with jayson. Can Jaysan look after Aeron and keep his distance from Morris? Can Morris finally let go of his past?

Jaysan is, in his own words, soiled. He knows he is on a path of self destruction, even with the help of the omega/beta support group and his amazing foster parents. He does something entirely voluntary but incredibly stupid on the 1st birthday of his baby. He knows it is stupid, and dangerous, but he can't stop himself. Kell finds him a job looking after Morris' nephew. Morris works for Kell's husband, Ronin,. No one had any idea that Aeron could be Jaysan's. the province is huge and the chance of them meeting is slim. But meet they do, and Jaysan knows it the second he sees Aeron. Morris can see it, and smell it too, picking up that delicious rose scent from Aeron as well as Jaysan.

Morris doesn't want a mate. His own sire was a nasty piece of work, abusive to Mossis and his brothers and to their omegin. Morris doesn't want to be like that so has decided against taking a mate. Meeting Jaysan, though, and that rose scent, and Morris knows he will have to fight hard against the mating bond. So much so, he takes the suppressor that hides his own sweet basil scent from Jaysan.

But neither man can fight it, and after a heart to heart that made me cry (I cry a LOT with these books!) they decide to get to know each other, and maybe, just maybe, they can make it work.

Then Jaysan has what i can only call a brain fart, and it scares him and he runs. Runs into a situation of his own doing, but almost immediately he knows it is wrong, the other person s WRONG. He manages to get himself out of the situation and calls Morris, not even sure if Morris will come to help him. But Morris DOES come, and they finally decide they belong together!

The coming together of Morris and Jaysan is truly beautiful, for used as Jaysan feels, Morris is untouched. And Morris feels that this will affect his ability to please Jaysan. It's really great reading, watching the younger Jaysan bring the older Morris out of himself, it really is.

Time is moving in the world, and attitudes are changing positively towards the omegas. The children rescued from the fight ring are beginning to heal and bloom into wonderful young men, who meet their partners who help that healing all the more. Babies (lots of babies!) are being born to these couples and I find myself pairing them together, mix of alphas, omegas and betas that they are.

I also find myself wondering about the group of young omegas that were spirited off into the night in book one The ones Braun rescued from the group home that was feeding the fight ring. I'd love to catch up with what's happened to them, as they have grown into young men, and how they are fairing in the place they went to.

I'm trying not to read these book too fast, because I'm running out of books in the series, I only have two more left! I'm loving these so much. I bought the first three books in the Us series by Arthur, so i can still get my fix. Won't be this world, but still. I am in love with this author!

Book 5 of 8 and so far, they are ALL

5 star reads!

Killing me. The sweet baby omegas. I just want to wrap them all up and hide them away. But it's stories like these that I'm glad show omegas for what the truly are. They are valuable. Worth something. Just because they aren't alphas doesn't mean the have no worth. And that's in any story. Omegas are the ones that hold it together most often. And I adore them all.

The worst surprise in history was given to Morris when he finally found out what happened to his brother and brother in law. He had gotten a call from the babysitter, because neither could be reached. When he finally finds them, his brother is gone. Burned severely from a car accident. His brother in law is hanging to life. And then no more. Lost in grief, he catches the sweetest smell he's ever smelled in the form of a very irritated omega. But he doesn't have time to worry about it. His nephew just lost his parents. He just lost his only family. And now Morris has to figure out how to raise that precious baby, Aeron. Thankfully, he has Ronin, who brings Kell, and they help get him started. Tarek and Braun and many others have stepped in to help or offered. Morris knows he's going to need a governor for the baby. What he gets is the surprise of his life. Jaysen is so downhearted. And he's using sex to try to feel anything but numb. Giving up his baby was the worst thing he could have done, but at the time, he didn't know better. So when Kell says he knows someone who needs help, he figures he will give it a go. His life has to get better. When he goes to Morris’s with Kell to interview for the job, he is immediately frozen. It can't be. His own son? What are the odds he would need to babysit his own son? And the smell of the man now keeping him? Oh boy. But Jaysen doesn't want to mate and neither does Morris because of their pasts. So they have to find a way to work together and through the bond they feel every second.

As I've been reading this series, I, of course, adore all the omegas. They are just such a part of my heart. These little fighters, who try to break free of crappy conditions and laws and such. But one of the ones that stood out to me the most was Jaysen. I was so hoping he would get his story. Not only did he suffer through that fighting ring, but he felt his only option was to give up his baby. The grief he suffers daily from missing his little bundle is enough to make a person insane. I couldn't imagine not having my kid. Nutty as she may drive me. Through his grief, he becomes angry. More and more angry at his circumstances. And actions out in a way that makes him feel. Even if it's painful. When he meets Morris for this job, everything in him is frozen. Here's his baby. Right in front of him. Even though he can't claim him, he can be his governor. He can have his baby back. He just hopes Morris sticks with their deal of no mating, despite how strong their bondmate is pulling at them both. I feel so horrible for both of these boys. The circumstances of them meeting, the pasts they are still trying to overcome. It's so hard. Both are terrified of giving themselves to each other. No matter how much they may want it.

What a book. It's will pull you and just make you bawl. But it's such a good story. It is not a standalone, if you have not read these books. They need to be read in order. But it is so worth it. Jump in along for the ride. It's an emotional one but a hell of one too.

Jaysan gets his HEA!

The Breaking Free series is one best read in order, but, if you don't have time to read them all, I think that Whole could be read as a stand-alone. We met Jaysan in book 4, Found, where he gave up his baby for adoption – a decision that he is now regretting deeply. We know from the book blurb that Jaysan unexpectedly finds his son when he goes to interview for a governor (governess) position with an alpha who needs help caring for the nephew has custody of.

Whole is such an emotional book. Morris Danvers is beside himself with grief when his brother Morgan and his mate, Brody, are killed in a car accident and he is left as guardian to their infant son, Aeron. Morris and Morgan were very close and now Morris has no family left to help share his grief. When Jaysan interviews for the job to care for Morris's nephew he meets Aeron and immediately recognizes that he is the son he gave up for adoption one year earlier.

There is so much to this story. Morris has dark things in his past he doesn't share with people and Jaysan doesn't want to talk about what happened to him when he was forced to fight other pregnant omegas in an illegal fighting club. I really don't know how to say much without going into too much detail about the book.

My emotions were all over the place. The things that both Morris and Jaysan endured were horrible. The emotional scars left on both men has deeply affected their feelings about taking a mate. Whole is really an emotionally gritty story, one that the author could have easily stopped after Jaysan and Morris finally acknowledge their feelings for each other. I'm so glad she didn't stop at that point, though, because the events that happen afterward give her an opportunity to tell more of their story and also introduce another character that I hope she plans to write about next.

A.M. Arthur does an excellent job of breaking this reader's heart and putting it back together again; I hope she plans to continue this series.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

“We’re both imperfect people, but together? We’re a perfect pair.”
I really enjoyed this newest addition to the Breaking Free series. I can admit it, I wasn’t too sure if I even *wanted* to like Jaysan going into Whole, as much as I knew why he was acting out, he still managed to rub me the wrong way as his behaviour spiralled. So needless to say, while I was expecting him to be redeemed, I was completely unprepared for how deeply invested I became in Jaysan’s journey as he rebuilt his life and redefined his entire sense of self-worth. Both characters are struggling with still open wounds in this book and I love that there is a clear sensation of them being stronger because of each other instead of relying on the traditional gender roles that define the society they live in. I also loved getting the chance to catch up with the characters I’ve come to care about, this family-by-choice have had so many struggles to overcome that the unconditional bonds they’ve formed are compulsory reading for me. This series is a great choice for fans of non-shifter mpreg and with every new addition to the series I find myself hoping that AM Arthur has more waiting for us, I can’t get enough of these characters.

Loss and hope, heartbreak and healing, these are the themes of this amazing story. This story is amazing as it builds on a thread that has been running through all of these book. Healing is possible, even after unspeakable pain and loss. Creating new partnerships and finding love is possible and it does take a lot of work and commitment.

I absolutely love this series and although it could be read as a stand-alone, i would strongly recommend reading it in the order it has been written. Many of the previous characters are part of the extended family and play key roles in this story as our MC's find their way. Strong characters with amazing back stories create a plot that will keep you riveted from beginning to end.

Morris and Jaysan are so beautifully created that you will hold them in your hearts for a very long time. Their pain and their happiness will become part of your world and you will learn from their life lessons too.

Awesome read!

I received a free copy to read and review for Wicked Reads

First off, to enjoy the story you need to read all the previous books in the series to get the back story and to get the full scope of everything. Let's talk about the book blurb. I usually like the book blurb because I have so many books on my e-reader that sometimes I forget why I bought a book and the blurb refreshes my memory. This blurb basically tells you the entire story in just a few paragraphs. The blurb was was too much and it kind of ruined things for me. There isn't much else I can tell you either without ruining even more of the story. I will say this, if you read the previous books you know what a jerk face Jaysan was. In this book we see a totally different side of him and I fell in love with him. It was a great addition to the series, I just felt like the blurb told too much of the story for the reader.

My one issue with this author is the lack of respect for prior relationships. This book deals with adoption by denigrating adoptive relationships because it's convenient for lifting up the main character. There was a lot to love about the main characters, and the relationship. The way the main character at times feel guilty grateful over the deaths over two people who loved and cared for his child when he couldn't make him seem like a terrible parent. I've worked child custody cases and the ones who feel like that are the ones who you can see ruining their children because it's about them, not their kids. And then there's a point where the other main character makes a distinction between them and the adoptive couple.

All families where there is love are real. All of them. All relationships matter. One does not have to put something down in order to lift something else up.

Brilliant

I loved this book. It has everything you come to expect from A. M. Arthur. Love, passion, angst and wonderful characters. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. A broken alpha, Morris, doesn't want a mate, he is terrified of turning into the abusive man that was his sire. Jaysan is also broken, abused at 6, orphaned, raped, kidnapped and forced to fight other omega's, who are pregnant like himself. When he is finally freed, his anger at the world leads him to be reckless and numb. The two men meet when Morris brother dies, leaving his year old son in Morris's care. Hiring Jaysan to take care of his nephew, he is not only surprised to find Jaysan is his mate but also his nephew's biological father.

The bond!

As a paralegal Alpha he came across alot of people with far reaching stories in their life. Then he receive a call that his Brother and husband have been involved in a car crash. His brother has died and the partner is critical. Then its over. The baby they adopted a year ago is all that he has left. Then suddenly he meets an Omega who is the birth parent of the child, whom he was going to employ to look after the baby while he is at work. They realise they are attracted to each other but neither are ready. This love story is beautiful. I hope A. M. Arthur will write some more stories in this series.

The Breaking Free series is consistently well-written and this book is no exception. Jayson, who carried such anger and grief in the previous book, finally hopes for his HEA. Following his rescue from horrific abuse and impregnated against his will, he had made the decision to give up his baby. In this story, he has given up hope of reconnecting with his baby. While in the ER, he sees an alpha, Morris, with whom he feels the mating bond, but they are both so traumatized that they ignore the urge. This book is full of friendship, support, grief, healing, hope, and love. It carries a message of compassion and respect for all persons. Read the entire series for maximum enjoyment.

This series just gets better with every book

Love Jaysan & Morris' story. When a devastating event happens and Morris' brother and brother-in-law both die, he is left to care for their adopted son, Aeron. Overwhelmed by these happenings, he calls his boss, Ronin who brings in the Calvary, and one just happens to be Aeron's omegin, Jaysan.
Both afraid of their past, they fight the bondmate, but soon realize a clean slate is all that is needed and both of their walks start to break down.
Can't wait to see whose book is next, and I have maybe a good idea.

So, once I dip into the omegaverse, I kind of get dragged down a hole.

While Blake writes two books, Arthur finishes five. There are dark, no question. The alphas here are unrepentant and cruel. I love to see the police and Ronan Cross continue to search for evidence against them.

While there will be more, I did love the epilogue that shows this little family finding more deserved happiness. Gosh Jaysan fights against his attraction, is stubborn to the end, but maybe that makes the eventual mating all the sweeter.

Ok so anyone who reads my reviews knows that I absolutely love A.M. Arthur because damn does every one of them get me. The Breaking Free series is my absolute favorite omega verse series (though I love a lot of other series and authors too). My love for this series is because of the complex characters that A.M. creates, the intricate narrative A.M. weaves, and the vibrant and complicated universe that A.M. has built in this series. Whole is no exception to this. First, we get to spend time with the amazing characters that we've grown to love from the previous entries into the series. Second, we get an adorable and sweet alpha in Morris, who I literally just wanted to hug. Third, we got to delve into the mind and heart of Jaysan, which I have been waiting for since his introduction (talk about a complicated, complex, and bruised soul BUT that's part of why I love him). This novel will break your heart in many ways as these characters have already endured so much, but watching Morris and Jaysan patch those broken and bruised pieces of themselves and each other is so beautiful. Check it out. (Content warning for the book though though: sexual violence, domestic abuse, child sexual and physical abuse, and references to human trafficking).

👏THIS BOOK IS A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO A WONDERFUL SERIES!

A.M. Arthur has written another amazing book. I have read each book in this series and would recommend every one of them to readers who enjoy this genre and want to read books that are well-written with amazing characters and meaningful storylines.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for the next book of this series to be released!☺

Another teary book. The whole Breaking Free series is amazing and they guys from previous stories all rally around and help.
This is Morris and Jayson's story, with previous books the Omega's involved have all suffered traumatic times and Jayson is no exception, he has suffered a terrible life and then times are turned around and it seems everything is finally starting to blend together.
I really enjoyed this book and will continue to read the series.

Wow this book made me feel so many things! I think the first few chapters I was crying for Jayson and for Morris! I’m so happy that they came together in the end and opened up to each other! They both went through really hard situations and to be together helped them grow! Such a phenomenal job AM Arthur!!
