Callie has finally gotten her life on a good path, but it takes a major detour when she finds her roommate dead in their apartment. As more bodies pile up, Callie finds herself at the center of a deadly obsession. She doesn't know if she can escape without more people becoming victims. Callie is forced to make a life and death decision but who will live and who will die?
Callie is a normal college student until her world suddenly falls apart at the discovery of her best friend's dismembered body. She has a stalker and they are murderously obsessed. I read this novella in one day. Written in first person, the reader senses her fear and confusion as she's driven out of her own life. Although I did guess the stalker's identity fairly early, it's still a good solid read with a great ending.
I thought the book was okay, although to be honest there were elements I didn't enjoy. There were parts that were really obvious such as the situation between the two victims, it would have been nice to have a bit more mystery there but within the first couple of pages I had figured out their suddenly hostile relationship. On the other hand, I didn't feel like there was any build up at all to who Callie's stalker was. It would have been great to have extended it with a few situations or clues that hinted towards who it was without giving it away, but it seemed completely random. The sad event with Emma and Roger was also very random, it made no difference at all to the plot, so I felt it was a bit redundant. I liked the character of Office Roster and I thought Callie's feelings were clear throughout, the emotion was definitely there. It really bugged me that Zach spoke about himself in the third person, but that's just a personal preference and I liked how it tied in with the text messages as I did not see it coming that the stalker had the phone! Overall, it was an alright read. A few grammatical errors.
Definitely an interesting thriller. It was a little predictable (though in fairness, I'm very good at predicting things) but still interesting to watch the events unfold. I liked Callie, especially as I watched her interact with Emma, and I appreciated the way victim blaming was shut down in the story. However, I didn't like the ending. That part did surprise me, in an unsettled sort of way.
