Power Awakened

Rate this book
Cadon has been tasked with setting up a base in the human city. A safe-haven for the males to stay while they’re trying to find mates. Everything needs to be ready for when the first five arrive.

A friend asks a favor of him, bringing him in the path of a tiny human. She was recently beaten, she’s afraid, and she’s with child. Cadon can’t take his eyes off her. Such a delicate thing. Every protective instinct inside him instantly comes alive when he finds out the baby’s father has abandoned her. That he is the one who beat her. Furthermore, he’s still out there and could come after her again. As much as he should stay out of it and stay away, he can’t…

Who is this huge, hulk of a man? Why is he insisting on helping her? Maybe because she needs help. No! Kerry can manage just fine without him. She doesn’t need a man in her life. Look at where that got her before. Jobless, pregnant and all alone. No thanks! She’ll have to find a way to get by, to do what it takes to safeguard her baby.

I enjoyed Power Awakened, much like I have enjoyed almost every book Charlene has written about this world. I especially love that it's Griffin shifters! New species to get to know and love.

This is probably one of the slower burn in Charlene's collection, but it works in this case. We pick up a little before book 1 ended. We get to see what drove Kerry to Vicki's apartment, where she of course met Cadon.

Knowing what Kerry just went through and the fact she's pregnant makes it easier to appreciate the time to build a relationship between her and Cadon. You can tell right away that Cadon is attracted on some level, but he doesn't realize the level of attraction until later. He's mostly concerned with helping her, but unsure why he feels so pulled to do so.

There's also an overall plot besides the romance. It added to the excitement. This will be a plot that arc across this entire series, which is something I personally love. The "bad guys" I think will end up surprising us down the road and may end up with a few having their own books.

My one big concern was the interaction at the end. Please do not make this into the same type of situation as the Vampire Kings. Make it as unique as The Feral & Fallen are.

CUTE, HEARTWARMING, & OH SO SEXY!!!
Title: Power Awakened
Series: The Feral
Author: Charlene Hartnady
Designation: Book 2 of Series, Full-Length Novel, Standalone, NO Cliffhanger #paranormalromance #shifters
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****

Wow! I loved, loved, loved Power Awakened, the second riveting release in a captivating new series from Charlene Hartnady. It’s no secret I’m a diehard Hartnady fan and have been for years. No one writes shifters and vampires quite like Hartnady. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy paranormal romance written by quite a few other very talented authors, but Hartnady’s sultry prose, unique storylines, imaginative worlds, sharp wit, snappy dialogue, and wacky humor just really revs my engine. But let’s not forget my favorite component of every Hartnady story – her large, diverse cast of intriguing characters who always manage to ensnare my imagination and capture my heart. And don’t even get me started on her broody, fearless, always charming, but totally clueless heroes and her kindhearted, spunky, intelligent, and quite often sharp-tongued heroines who manage to bring the cocky men to their knees. As I said, I’m a huge Hartnady fan and if you haven’t read any of her books yet, you’ve missed a real treat! But as usual I digress, so let’s talk details.

Power Awakened is a riveting, fast-paced, well crafted, easy to follow, full-length standalone novel, brimming with compelling drama, agonizing angst, outrageous humor, electric attraction, steamy passion, and dreamy romance with even a generous splash of danger, action, and suspense thrown in for good measure. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives but the primary points of view are from the two protagonists, Kerry Thomas and Feral shifter Cadon. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. I adored the premise for this series but once again, it’s the characters who steal the show. I was immediately smitten with handsome, broody and very intense Feral shifter Cadon. He may have been totally clueless about human women, but he was still a chick magnet, like all the handsome Feral shifters. These guys may be clueless about human society and customs, but they're all extremely intelligent and fortunately, they're also quick learners. Well, at least, most of them! Some of them may be hopeless! lol... Cadon was such a sweetheart with a heart of gold who simply couldn't resist rescuing a damsel in distress. I was completely captivated by the lovely and very pregnant Kerry Thomas. My heart just broke for this jobless, homeless, and down-on-her-luck young woman. Kerry had just left an abusive fiance and was slow to trust anyone, especially a man, but was determined to somehow make a life for her and her son, without assistance from anyone. Cadon had lost his mate 13 years earlier and could never have another - or so he thought. These two characters were so perfect for each other, but the deck was certainly stacked against them. Theoretically, I know Hartnady's stories always have happy endings, but she certainly kept me on the edge of my seat with this one, wondering and worrying if Cadon and Kerry would actually find their happiness together. Hartnady's trademark wit and humor were also present in Power Awakened but, in my humble opinion, this book had more danger, drama, action, and suspense than the first book of my series. If you enjoyed the first book, then you'll LOVE this one even more. I snickered, snorted, chuckled, cackled, sniffled, outright sobbed, fumed, and shook my fists in anger through the entire story but by the end, and in true Hartnady style, I was happy, satisfied, and well entertained. So, did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some profanity and explicit(dreamy) sex. Power Awakened is the second release in a new spinoff series entitled The Feral. Each book is a full-length, standalone romance featuring one couple finding their happy ending. Will I read this author again? I think you already know the answer but just for clarification, ABSOLUTELY, just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my seat, white-knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest while the pages flew as quickly as the time. And I loved every single second! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

After losing all their fertile females to the Clutch Sickness years ago, The Feral have very little hope for their future but know they must find a way to continue their species. They’ve witnessed the vampires and other shifter races mating successfully with humans and realize their only chance of survival is by also taking human mates. But the Feral are not like other shifters. They’ve isolated themselves for too long and know nothing about human society and culture, especially human females. They must learn how to adapt, blend in, and find a way to win the hearts of worthy females and to do this, they need help. Originally, King Leukos assigned his head warrior, Talon, with the task of learning human customs and then teaching the other warriors but an unforeseen complication has resulted in Cadon now being charged with the mission, one Cadon knows he cannot fail. The future of his species rests in his hands. He was chosen not only for his skill as a warrior, but also because of his disinterest in human females, or any females for that matter. The Feral mate for life, and it's impossible for him to be attracted to any female since his mate died 13 years ago. He could never have feelings for another. But you know what they say – never say never. Apparently, certain parts of his anatomy, as well as his heart, didn’t get the memo. Fate is a fickle mistress indeed, especially when the future of his entire race is at stake…. and a beautiful but very pregnant female needs rescuing. When his shifter engrained protective instinct overrides his duty to the mission, Cadon soon learns he may not be as disinterested as he believed and that not all missions go according to plan. Sometimes, a broken heart, even one beyond all hope, can love again. No spoilers from me but I will say this... A handsome Feral shifter who thought he could never love again - check! A beautiful and very pregnant young woman, in desperate need of a job and trying to escape an abusive relationship, who doesn't know who to trust but wants to make a life for her and her unborn son-check! A species of dying shifters searching for a way to avoid extinction-check! A despicable ex-fiance who refuses to back off-check! An old enemy called The Fallen and a possible war on the horizon-check! Large cast of intriguing characters-check! Exceptional world building-check! Danger, drama, angst, action, and suspense-in spades! Heated attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, and an undeniable fate-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Hartnady ripped out my heart with this story! This is one book you don't want to miss!

Hunger Awakened is the 2nd sexy book in The Feral series. Understanding humans is not as easy as they thought. The story revolves around shifters who meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas and action along the way. That's when the fun begins.

While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters are fun and loving and dictated by their rules, but what they discover more than they ever imagined.

Strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles! Who doesn't love that

I enjoyed this book but the h was really insecure and a worrywart the whole book. I don't know why anyone would fall in love with someone like that. Caden was awsome, he saved the book for me.

I liked this story more than the first one. There are more depth and connection between Cadon and Kerry. Cadon does everything he can to keep and save Kerry and her baby safe. Even saying the baby is his. These two have to fight for their love. Will they be able to win in the end?

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book two of four in The Feral series.
(Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Their own females died many moons ago from the dreaded clutch sickness. Desperate and desolate, they watch as the other shifters take human females as mates. They are breeding successfully with them too. Surely if the others can do it, they can too, and they must if they are to survive.

Every protective instinct inside him instantly comes alive when he finds out the baby’s father has abandoned her, and r hat he is the one who beat her. Furthermore, he’s still out there and could come after her again, and as much as he should stay out of it and stay away, he can’t.

Who is this huge, hulk of a man? Why is he insisting on helping her? Maybe because she needs help. Kerry believes she can manage just fine without him, and that she doesn’t need a man in her life. Look at where that got her before, jobless, pregnant and all alone, she doesn’t want another, so she’ll have to find a way to get by, to do what it takes to safeguard her baby. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

This is the second book in The Feral series. I enjoyed the first book so much I was sure it could not be beaten but this is just as good & has endeared me to the Feral even more. It picked up from the first book but can be read as a stand alone although personally I love to read in sequence.
Unusually it starts with pregnant Kerry who is in an abusive relationship with Jeff who is a really nasty piece of work & the father of her child. She meets with Cadon who gives her a way to leave if she needs it. There is clearly a spark with these two but the joy is that it builds against all the odds.
Cadon is trying to teach a chosen few of The Feral to interact with human females with a view to finding mates as their own females have died from an illness leaving The Feral with no way of breeding a future generation. This is easier said than done & then to add to the problem The Fallen appear on the scene.
All the men are extremely hot but lacking in any sort of civilised behaviour which makes for good reading & adds a comedic dimension to the story. There are also some strong characters which I am sure will appear in future books.
Kerry & Cadon are a good couple with Kerry being a strong woman despite her circumstances. Cadon is a very sexy shifter with a wonderful emotional side especially given the trials they have to endure.
All in all another winner.
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’m an huge fan of Charlene Hartnady work, while I loved this new installment with the very strange ferals, I had mixed feeling about the heroine.
It is the second book following a group of a feral trying to find a mate among the humans, as their own kind are dying with less and less females and no more offsprings.
I do understand Kerry went through a lot, but she appeared so weak for the first two thirds of the book, always running away or weeping, but unable to scream when it should have been the right moment. And I hate whining girls. Then she finally did the good choice and things took the perfect path, but it was rather long for her to see where she must head.
I loved Cadon, he is a good man, trying to act for the best and help his kind or save those under his charge. And when fate gave him a second chance, he took it even if it goes against the rules.
Then the author introduced the Fallen, at first I hated them for their rudeness, cruelty and harsh way of treating Cadon and his men plus Kerry. But they are as desperate as are the Feral, they are a dying group and Cadon plus Talon new awakening is a new hope but also a view on a may be dark future.
I give this story a 4,5 stars rate.

Meh

I really enjoyed the vampire series and the dragon series by this author so I expected the same from this book. I actually like Feral and Cadon is a real sweetheart. Loved the group of guys all trying to learn about humans, frat house gone amuck, hilarious dialogue and action. Really felt for them when they lost battle. I guess the biggest problem I had with character development was Kerry. I get how with her hardships (abused, pregnant, bad choices made, etc. ) she deserves some whinnying. Usually characters grow a backbone after that, she stood up to Magnar a couple of times and was helpful after battle scenes but she didn't really seem to be too smart after that. Book could have ended for me after sex scene getting home from shopping. Rest was too whiny for me and just setting up for next book. Baby delivery would have been cooler maybe at home with Magnar helping. He could realize how fragile humans were...Rest of book just seemed redundant. Maybe next Feral book the heroine stuck between both Kings will have a better backbone (or a threesome)!! Hmmmm. Just sayin

She finally gets her HEA!

I am loving the heck out of this series! My attention was taken from the first page to the last, and the excitement of what will happen next kept my at the edge of my seat. I especially love that it's about Griffin shifters those are rarely around.

Character breakdown;

Kerry: this woman couldn't catch a break! With a crazy ex constantly beating her up and her trying to figure out a way to save herself and her unborn baby. To eventually ending up with a hostile race of shifters. Despite it all I liked Kerry her very real fear and need to pick herself up was inspiring.

Cadon: something about him made me wonder how he'll be when I last saw him in the first book. He wasn't obnoxious or arrogant, he had the protector instinct and was charming. I loved how he dealt with the unruly males he had to teach and find a mate for.

The book will bring you laugher, every emotion to the very raw conflict. A page turner to say the least.

An amazing story!
The Ferals are back. This time, Cadon, a previously mated males is setting up a haven for males to learn how to woo human women. Enter one abused and pregnant young woman (Kerry) in need of a safe place to live. Cadon offers her a job at the house (currently with 5 other ferals). Imagine being in a house with immense, sometimes naked, culturally-challenged males. So many scenes had me rolling in laughter! Even so, there is intense danger for Kerry and the Ferals as others challenge their right to seek human women.
I love Kerry! She’s very brave going into this situation, she will do whatever she must to protect her baby. Cadon is such a wonderful guy! He is so protective of Kerry and the baby. He does his best to care for her and to teach and protect the males with him, even if it means defying authority. This is a whirlwind of action - impulse control is at a minimum. Let that be your caveat! I love this book!

Action packed

This book had so much going on. First and abusive ex-fiance, then a house full of hilarious Feral males looking to find mates, a small group of Fallen Feral attacking them in their house, held hostage, more or less forced to find the Fallen mates and mate the girl who's supposed to be the house keeper to avoid the Fallen General forcing her to mate with him. Oh and She is pregnant the entire time. The king of the Feral doesn't want his brother the king of the Fallen to find out that any of those who had mates did have fallen in love again with a human.... Oopps his General finds out.. This story was yet another exciting book that was hard to put down. I find the Feral stories so far are sprinkled with lots of humour, bunches of hulking males, and smart if delicate females.... It's a perfect balance of alpha and heroine. Looking forward to the next in this series.

I have been a long time reader of Ms. Hartnady’s (from the Vampire books on, I have read them all) but have never written a review about her books. Not sure why, but decided to write one for this book. I thought the issue of an abusive relationship is really well done – not glossed over as it could have been in a romance. Jeff is someone we met in the previous book and is still a dick. He was very easy to hate. Cadon and Kerry’s relationship is slow burn but so worth the read. I even really liked the Fallen guys. The book is not just serious, there are some funny and laugh out loud moments (as always in Ms. Hartnady’s books). A terrific read. Cannot wait for more of The Feral (and maybe The Fallen).

Love conquers all

OMG! So much going on, but just Wow. I couldn't put it down. We met Kerry briefly in the first book. She seemed like a nice girl who fell in love. Boy, was she wrong about who she thought she loved. Some of the scenes were hitting close to home, but quickly recover to a much better place.

Cadon is a man, or shifter, who lost his mate and believes there will never be another. His mission is to teach delinquent warriors the human ways to win a woman's heart. The Fallen have another idea.

Cadon goes against all the rules to save the life of Kerry and her baby...but will be make it in time?

I recommend reading this book. I look forward to reading the next one in a few months.

Stitches of laughter in 🔥 ness

This is my 2nd review for this author and I'm loving every moment of it.
Characters: Simply natural with a heavy dose of chemistry, the sass and laughing
anecdotes was absolutely tearful in a fun way.
Storyline: Wow!! It was absolutely spectacular, it kept me riveted more way than one.
Plot: Was well constructed, steady with every chapter read with a bit of suspense and plenty of surprises. The sexy parts was a hot as ever😜
It's rare to find books in series that complements sex and suprised laughter, her anecdotes are bar none the best. I sincerely recommend you all to read all the series, you will not only be in stitches but you get hot as well. 😜😘

Power is not the Only Thing Awakened

This is Cadon & Kerry’s story. I’m loving this sensual series. The writing is flawless as is the witty banter. Cadon is a feral, a species of shifters that are griffons. They live in a remote region separate from civilization due to that fact. Their mates developed what’s called “clutch sickness” which is when their females died after becoming pregnant. The unborn child dies too. They’re not supposed to be able to find another mate, as they already had a mate. No matter their age, they only get one mate until now. They’ve descended upon civilization to pick up women & find mates to further their own society & culture. They need training in order to fit into our society. It’s a good thing that there are those of us who are so helpful…

I just love Charlene Hartnady books. The woman are always perfect in a non perfect way. They always have more meat on their bones then the model types. Granted they are still on the small size, but at least they are more like normal woman who always are fighting with weight and how they perceive themselves. The men on the other hand are not normal. Like some good looking, muscle bound, perfect male is possible. Even with them being shifters.

So anyway, got off tract. This books was really good. There was danger and revenge. Smoking hot guy shifters. A bad guy and his group crashing the party so to speak. Magner is pretty much a typical male. There is a bit of spice not too much but it's there. Still, didn't take long to read due to the great way Charlene tells her stories.

Awesome!!

Charlene Hartandy foes it again. When I first read "Chosen By the Vampire Kings" I couldn't put it down nor the next one that followed. I love how her Characters are all Alpha Male but also sweet and loving. This book was no different, Cadon and Kelsey are amazing. I love how she makes the shifters, vampires, and elves live kind of in the Human world but also not. I love how she makes then talk and try to learn Human mannerisms and Human Slang and Also the human woman it endears me to each Character she creates. I can't wait for the next one she has truly become one of my favorite authors 👍😁

Non-stop action pulsed through this drama as Cadon attempted to teach the Feral men assigned to him how to attract a human female. His life was further complicated by his reawakened needs and increasing attraction to Kerry, an abused human female in need of help and protection. Although Cadon and Kerry's story was touching, their wasn't much hope that they would be able to plan a future together. The appearance of "The Fallen" put the entire Feral species in danger and brought another aspect of their world into the spotlight. I can't wait for the next book to become available. VERY GOOD READ!!!!!

Yes Yes Yes

I so love this author. Ms. Hartnady, have ever heard of the 1954 American musical, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" ? Look for it online . I think you may find a way to use it, or some scenes from it, to help these poor clueless souls. The dragons could probably still learn things from it as well. I get so tickled at many of the antics of the shifters. But I am also so disgusted with the way anyone who is a bit different than what is considered "normal" is treated. But please keep writing these wonderful books. They brighten my days.

Good 2nd book

The plot thickens in this series Caden is another of the Ferals to find love again with a human female although he lost his mate years before Kerry is a woman down on her luck pregnant and beaten by her ex partner but love blossoms between these two. A rival group of Ferals takes this group prisoner and finds out that they can find love again with humans it looks like war is brewing. This is a really interesting story with a number of twists and turns, look forward to the next in the series.

Power Awakened

Wow. Is worth the wait. I'm not going into details. Just know you won't be disappointed. But since you all are followers of Terry Bolryder you know how great all her books are. So far I have read almost all her books. And I absolutely hate waiting for the next one. Lol. All else aside, Terry's books are that good. The story line, her characters, the "villains", I loose myself in each and everyone of them. Great, Awesome, Outstanding. Don't miss this new one.

Another terrific book by Hartnady

Power Awakened is the second book in this fantastic series, and I'm looking forward to more. This story had a lot of emotional aspects, mystery, suspense, angst, humor, and unexpected twists that kept me captive until the very end. There was a brief preview of what an upcoming story will be about, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

I loved this story. I really connected with all of the characters in this book. I wish there had been more sexy romance instead of a time or two at the end of the book though. I didn’t like the way the book ended, it just stopped with no epilogue or anything about their lives once they were finally together. At the end of the book, it was announced that book 3 would be out in January 2019 but I sure couldn’t find it, if it’s out.

Great storyline

I really did like the storyline for this book. At times it seems like the book goes on forever though. And it seems like the same things are repeated over and over. This book is still a good read in the storyline is good. Great build-up out the characters and again yet another Cliffhanger type situation at the end. Not really my favorite but still worth the read to go on to the next book.

Another Great Hit

Loved It! What a ride of emotions, with so many twists and turns in this story that you won't be able to put it down? Loved the interaction between, Cadon, Kerry, and her baby. How he accepted her son as his own. A beautiful love story that makes you laugh, cry, and you want more. A must buy and waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.
