Disappointing
I was very disappointed in this book. The writing style was childish and stilted, not up to the polished style in the other books. Flat characters, but the premise has potential. This book would be fine in a middle school library.

"Whoops! Our New Flatmate is a Human" is a messy read and, just as you begin to think that it might come together it stops.
There are too many competing strands and none are really explored. The murder mystery goes from zero to solved in a few pages, the missing 'wizards' story just fizzles out (presumably to be resurrected in a later book), and the hidden supernatural (vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc.) world just bumbles along.
Investigative reporter Susan returns from London to her home town of Washbridge to help restore the fortunes of the local newspaper, The Bugle! To make matters worse a new paper is being launched in the area and the Bugle's staff are both lazy and incompetent. She has her work cut out for her.
Unbeknownst to her her new flatmates are all supernatural beings (a werewolf, a vampire and a wizard). Oh, there's also a ghost and two miniscule fairies!
It's fairly well written and it's not a bad read overall but it's sloppy and pointless. It never really grabbed my attention.
2.5 Stars.

All rather juvenile
I think I made a mistake and this book is aimed at children/young adults. It's a bit twee. Having said that, it was amusing and will probably be OK as a series. But definitely not for adults

And entertaining urban fantasy/cozy mystery/investigative reporter story
And entertaining end at times funny cozy mystery/urban fantasy series. A human female investigative reporter get a job at a local newspaper. The town in England is one were the most supernatural weird things happen in England. Three times more supernatural things happening in this town than any other. The new reporter shares an apartment with three others who happened to be a wizard a werewolf and a vampire. The apartment building is home to mostly supernatural she live in this particular community. She is the only human in the apartment complex. All of the supernaturals must keep their identities quiet so she does not find out. Susan Shaw the reporter while doing her job keeps bumping into little tidbits about supernatural things while searching for the next big story for her newspaper. So far it is entertaining mix of cozy mystery and urban fantasy cozy mystery. Check it out

What the hell?...
This was all over the place.
The murder mystery that Susan (the human) solves was not the major plot for this story. This book revolved around the supernaturals trying to deal with the crap in the own lives, as well as dealing with the reality that their landlord had saddled them with a human flatmate. Susan is in a similar situation family wise (cold shoulders and asshole family members included), but now she has 3 weirdo roomies who keep lying to her and acting cagey. The multiple POVs at least made it interesting, but the book was waaay too short for all the family dramas, plus that pesky front page scoop of the murders, that the author tried to cram in there.
But my main gripe is that ending! So abrupt, and not even a cliffhanger in sight. Extremely vexing after I’d slogged through this.
Will borrow the next book to see if there is any improvement because there are moments of fun. Otherwise I’m one and done.

The main character, Susan, is actually a human and an investigative reporter. She moves in with a werewolf, a magician, and a vampire, who have to hide their natures from her. The vampire and the magician are pretty unpleasant people. All of the "supernatural" people we meet are pretty boring, really. They have minimal jobs and don't do their washing up enough. No hobbies, talents, opinions, or goals. Susan, the human, was pretty boring, too, and her job was unrealistically depicted. Reporters don't just write one story a week for newspapers.
The whole supernatural people living amid humans is only outlined in the broadest strokes. There's a place that only supernatural can go, Candlefield, but they can also live amid the humans, but if they are revealed as supernatural, they're sent back to Candlefield.
It was a fast read, not much detail. I don't think I'll be pursuing the series.

So, you've got a group of people living in a flat. There's a werewolf, a wizard, a vampire and a ghost. An interesting collection. Their main problem comes when a human gets added to the group by pressure from the landlord.
So, they try the 'ghost can make the room really, really cold' approach to get her to leave. That doesn't work, though.
It becomes rather funny the ways they try to get her out but nothing works for them. At the same time, though, if anyone human finds out they are real then there's a group of enforcers that will haul them off to some kind of prison for these supernatural beings.
There's also a murder that needs to be investigated. The question is are any of them going to make it to the end of the book? Basically a cute, funny story.

There is something fun with this book. It truly needs an additional extra half star to be honest. Not enough for a 4 star but it could get there.
Susan Hall has just relocated to Washbridge after her work in London didn't pan out. She is now working for The Bugle the local newspaper and she is being tasked with bringing the newspaper back from the brink. So her mission is to get better stories to do this. Her search for a place to live gets her to a flat and share the cost. What she does not know is that her new flatmates are supernaturals. To be exact she is now rooming with a Vampire, a Werewolf, and a Wizard. For their part she is a nuisance because they will not be able to relax from living in the human world.
What follows is a fun story and a mystery all rolled into one.

Excellent genre combination.
While not the best writing, this is overall an excellent book. The story is fantastic. It combined mystery, urban fantasy and plucky girl reporter genres extremely well. There are distractions and red herrings that still prove to all be relevant in the greater world.
The characters are distinct and well realized. It's a bit obscure about the central mystery of the story, but then, that's sort of the point, and makes for a really clever presentation, but it does make it feel a bit aimless at times.
Keep in mind this takes place in the UK, and it is very British. The diction can be jarring if you're not used to British idioms and slang.

It reminded me a bit of a tv show
I say that it reminded me of a tv show because it seemed like more of an Introduction to characters than anything with a steady plot. The basic plot is in the title a human moved in with a bucn of paranormals who need to keep knowledge of their existence a secret. There's a flimsy subplot involving Susan following a news story which wasnt given much focus but most of the book is following each of the four main characters and being introduced to the people in their lives. I'm not quite sure what to think of it.

This book was a clunky read that kept jumping POVs from one character to the next, often in the same paragraph. That frequently made it hard to tell who was saying or doing what. Most of it felt forced and lacked the humor found in the author's Witch P.I. series upon which this is derived. Even so, I found the characters interesting and wanted to know more. Hopefully, the flow will smooth out as the series progresses. There's a spark there and I'd like to see if it ignites. I'm going to give the next one a chance.

Great Concept
I really enjoyed this mystery. And it has great characters with issues going on with all the flatmates. The heroine is a human, an investigative reporter. She moves in with 3 flatmates in a four bedroom apartment. She shares with a wizard, a werewolf, and a vampire. And they do not want her to know they are supernatural people. Great fun. And a great mystery to boot.

A wonderful spin off.
Well done Adele. The Susan Hall Mysteries is going to be a fine series. As much fun as Witch PI. Set in Washbridge with a lot of the same characters. Susan (an investigative journalist), unwittingly finds herself rooming with 3 paranormals while trying to save the local newspaper, by turning it from a laughable rag into a newsworthy paper.

Entertaining and funny
Adele Abbott has returned to her hometown of Washbridge by becoming the newest investigative reporter. Now if only she could find a flat to live in and a story to write.

Fairly Interesting
I’ve read many supernatural stories and this one is only mediocre. It has very few instances where I was intrigued or even remotely surprised. The series with the same setting with a witch detective is much more interesting with more interesting characters. I just couldn’t care too much about the main character in this one.

I liked this book. It's still set in Washbridge but introduces a new character but still has mysteries in it. The flatmates struggle to not let spill that they are not human; with some interesting consequences.
It's slower than the Witch PI ones, but I am about to start the next one in the series.

A spinoff from the Witch P. i. Series, I was a little disappointed. Getting to know some of the characters from the original series was fun, but overall, the story lacked the quirkiness that I loved in the Witch series.
There are 3 more books and, as I've already downloaded them, I will read them with the hope they get quirkier . .

Disappointed
I had such high hopes from the blurb but I was pretty disappointed. I think it would have been a really good book from a journalist point of view but it really didn't need the supernatural angle. It just led to some cringy moments that didn't add anything. It tired doing too much I think.

I really enjoyed this it’s a light read which I needed and I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.
The story follows Susan who moves into a flat share but is unaware her flatmates are supernaturals. Unfortunately if they get discovered in the human world it will lead to consequences for them…

Whoops! This is a very funny book!
After reading other books by Adele Abbott, I pre-ordered this one as a Halloween treat for myself. It is a challenge to decide who got the best scenes: the cat and the canary or the witches,werewolves and vampires.

Intriguing new series
Casts off on the “which is when” series, but the author doesn’t spend time developing the characters. Also begs the question of “really, that’d never happen” a lot, leaving the reader to flounder in its unbelievability.

it was OK... the audio narrator really hadn't settled in and neither had the author - but I do remember feeling exactly the same about her witch series which I'm now completely hooked on ... so I'll give it another book and then decide.

Hilarious hijinks
The story started out good and it finished better! Susan is oblivious of those close to her and it's funny watching them try to keep her blinded. Although it finished too quick, I can't wait to get the rest, just to see how long it takes her to realize.

Fast moving but a light read.
An enjoyable read. It won't take the reader long to zip through it. If you believe in "other" beings from fairies to wizards living amongst the rest of us humans you'll find narrow squeaks abound. Sit back and enjoy this shot fish adventure.

Slightly upset with myself for reading it in the first place. Honestly, don't bother. The plot is barely there, the characterisation is weak. My old habit of needing to read to the end has now been cured.
