Disclaimer: I purchased my copy from amazon using my own money. I have received absolutely nothing from the author in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Who would have guessed that writing this review would be so difficult? I mean I've read Guided so many times I've lost count!!! I met Danielle through twitter and facebook; where we've chatted about books and food. So when Danielle mentioned that she was writing a book, naturally I wanted to read it. I digress...

Guided is Danielle's debut novel, but for me it doesn't show signs of being written by a newbie author. The writing is fluid, easy to follow and read. The pace is great; my attention was captured and held; every time I read it. The POV changes throughout the book between Jo and Jasper; but at no point did I get confused over who POV I was reading.

I love Jo's character, she seems to take most things in her stride. Her personal development is astonishing, not just because of the introduction of magic either; but her strength and determination of.
Jasper, Mmmm.... yes please! He can stellarport me to his meadow any time! ;) I really enjoyed seeing the changes and development in him too. His emotion is so fierce and powerful, I could feel it oozing from my ereader.

The world in which the story is set is very believable and realistic. I felt as though the words transported me into the heart of the story, it was as if I was there and really wanted to be able to help Jo and Jasper several times.

The writing is fantastic, there's so much emotion laced throughout. I remember when I first read Guided and I was reading it in blocks of 5 chapters, and I came across a couple of parts that brought tears to my eyes; well even now those parts still being tears to my eyes! If Danielle was going for ripping out my heart then she had certainly achieved it! I do get the feeling that it won't stop there, I think my heart will end up being ripped into tiny pieces and stamped on before the end of Jo and Jasper's story.

For a debut author Danielle; has done an amazing job. I would definitely recommend taking a chance on Danielle's work and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Guided has magic, fantasy, laughs, tears and a few moments that caused me to shout at my ereader.

I can't wait for book #2, I'm looking forward to seeing just what is in store for everyone.

I'm giving Guided a 5* rating.

Danielle, I just want you to know that I have loved each and every page, every time I've read them! I can't wait for the next installment!

Wow! Seriously I'm blown away by this book. First time author? Didn't read like it one bit. It's so well developed and thought out, I would have thought she's been writing/publishing for years. It's well written and beautifully developed.

I devoured this book. Well written piece of fantasy, that doesn't stray too far into the unbelievable so it was entirely relatable. I fell in love with the characters. Jo is definitely someone I know-shy but strong and imaginative and insightful. Jasper, oh man, he's that boy we *all* wanted to know in school, way too hot to notice us but we just KNEW he'd be amazing if we got to know him. The author tore out my heart and wanted to make me scream a few times because of their trials and tribulations-too much for one person to endure.

I love that the young characters don't consume themselves with feelings of love or sex drive. The thoughts are fleeting-just as they should be for those going through so much and so young.

Basically, when its such a struggle for me to even read, i do try to drudge through so much crap-i have the i started it, maybe it'll get better, but i should really finish it, mentality-i LOVE it when a book makes me feel and makes me drool for more. Guided did all that and more. The second in the series better come out soon so I don't have to drudge through too much before I get another taste.

***spoiler alert***
When Joe's dad dies, I wanted to cry. It tore out my heart. I felt like my best friend just lost her dad. I wanted to be there, I wanted to be strong, but was so hurt too. That's the brilliance of the writing-I KNOW and love each character.

When Jo apologizes to Jasper at the end, I almost threw my stupid phone (my reading device) against the wall. I screamed in my head and gave the Marge Simpson groan out loud. It about killed me.

Danielle needs to perfect her EVIL author laugh as she progresses through the series.

Guided is the first book in Danielle Young’s Jade Ring series. Trust me when I say that this series is off to an excellent start.

Jo is an average high school student. She’s perfectly content being the wallflower, sitting alone and drawing by herself when everyone else is socializing at lunch. One glance in her direction from a guy that’s obviously too cool to be looking in her direction changes everything.

There’s not much down time in Guided. From the very first chapter the story draws the reader in. Jo is the kind of character that is instantly likable. She’s real, which makes the whole fantasy even more believable. I liked her from the very first chapter. What she realizes, almost as soon as the reader does is that nothing is exactly as it seems and there is a whole lot more to the world around her than she ever thought possible.

Jasper was another character that I was instantly drawn toward. The secrets he holds are only meant to protect Jo and as the story unfolds even more mysteries are revealed. Unfortunately for Jo, even more are hidden. She never gives up though and her strength and determination are just some of the things that make her such a likable character.

There was a lot to love about Guided. The story was fast paced, the characters were well developed and the action pretty much never stopped. The world building was believable as well. The aspects of Jo’s magic being slowly revealed just added another layer to the story.

I don’t want to give too much away because a lot happened in Guided. Some amazing things and some heartbreaking things. And just a warning, if you’re not a fan of cliff hangers, you might want to wait until the next installment of the Jade Ring series is released to pick up Guided. You can thank me later, but if you can’t wait, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Basically, Danielle Young’s Guided was an impressive debut. I honestly can’t wait until the next book in the series is released.

I just couldn't finish it. I read about 15% of it and I gave up. This book needs so much editing that it's too much of a mess to read.
