Rate this book

“The dead matter, but the living matter more.”

Buddy read with Nancy :)

“If people are only free to do what you think they ought to, they are not really free.”

Is it just me or does each book keep getting shorter? As if they weren't already really thin, to begin with. It's a good thing I borrowed them because I would never in a million years waste my money on such things! I honestly can't believe I keep reading this series. I keep hoping things will change and get better over time but that's just NOT gonna happen... EVER! On the plus side, there are just 3 shitty short books left. Woot Woot!!

I can believe how poorly written these books are and frankly, it's just not up to par with anything else I have read. I hate how it goes from the third person to the first person to the narrator it's just ridiculously ridiculous! Each book is a repeat of the others, someone gets captured/escapes, another epic battle, a lot of people die, and on and on it goes. These books (ALL OF THEM) are the most unbelievable piece of crap I have read in my life and on top of that, it's incredibly predictable. Their needs be a warning on the covers saying; Warning may cause extreme eye rolling haha. No, really I'm not kidding!

Anyways I'm dreadfully moving onto Hero, Traitor, Daughter now.

Definitely a downgrade from the last book. It started out really strong, and a select few storylines were pretty solid all throughout, but towards the end, I started to feel that it wasn’t really going anywhere. It felt like half a story and I was left disappointed, expecting more.

I also wasn’t a fan of the late-in-the-game new villain. I appreciate that this series shows what happens after a revolution, how it isn’t all happy and rainbow sunshine, and the expansion of the world was really nice. Felldust had an awesome vibe to it, though I wish we could have spent more time there, especially through Lucious, who was criminally under-shown. But did we need a new big bad? Or two, honestly, both of which appear once and then never again. They had no presence in the story to justify their existence.

And speaking of good ole Lucious, where was the emotional resonance the last installment had in abundance? I got some of it when Ceres didn’t just accept everything Thanos had done with Stephania, but when I needed it most, it wasn’t there.

And what the heck happened with all the inconsistencies?? It honestly felt like Morgan Rice straight up forgot her first book, because Ceres interacts with Cosmas again and 1) apparently they’ve never met before even though they literally have and 2) the fact that he straight up betrayed her in the first book is simply not mentioned. It hasn’t been mentioned since the moment it happened, actually, and I was patiently waiting for something to come of it but guess not lol

As for a positive, I love Felene. She’s honestly a fantastic character. One of my favorites, and not even of the book; of all time. And she’s surprisingly decent lesbian rep too, which was subtly introduced in the last book and expanded on more here without fanfare and blinking lights announcing “see! I can do LGBTQ+ rep too!” the way I was expecting and the way a lot of traditionally published authors do it. Felene feels natural in every way and I absolutely love her.

Stephania was golden as usual too, and the scenes where they interacted were some of my favorites. Stephania has come so far as a character, and her reverse character arc is so interesting to watch.

Ultimately, it was disappointing but not enough to dissuade me from finishing the series. I’m really intrigued where it’ll go next. It’s entertaining, whether it’s being cringey and stupid or genuinely engaging and exciting. I think I love this series, despite its faults.

The part were Ceres rebukes Thanos and tells him their relationship is over was the sweetest of all the saga.

4.5/5 Estrellas.

I was lucky enough to be given a copy of this book and this is my honest review - loved it!

This author has a knack of pulling the reader into the thrall of the characters' lives - each battling enemies and personal demons.

Ceres is a fabulous character, brave and honourable, and her heritage is fascinating. The villains are perfect villains - great to despise and the overall plot has its twists, turns and surprises.

Lots of action and adventure...a fantasy steeped in imagination.

Highly recommended.

Stephania is awful! She is back in power and demonstrating cruelty toward Ceres yet again. I could not believe that the potion the sorcerer gave her worked and that Ceres' great power was taken away. Terrible things happen in all the books and no one is safe from them, which is why these books are so addictive. You literally can't guess how people will escape from their trials and the difficulties keep piling on. I love it so much. Just when Delos should be free, a greater threat appears. It's thrilling.

I’m sure if you’ve read this far into the series, you enjoy learning about Ceres’ journey as well as how her journey affects others. While not much happens for Ceres in particular, this book explores what happens for the “side cast,” who with each and every book becomes more and more important and relevant.

I HATE Stephania. That being said, she is so well written here, as is Lucious, Thanos, among others. This book leans way more political fantasy than the previous entries, but it’s enjoyable regardless and incredibly intriguing.

Overall: 4.75⭐️

You're telling me that you would sell your child for vengeance no man Stephania is delusional. It would seem that Delos is a city siic with madness especially for the nobles.

Stephania deserve a death worthy of unspeakable horrors and her followers.

I am saddened that Ceres must endure such hardship. It seems that at every turn her life is threatened she is captured and forced to see friends for at every turn.

This one was short, only 159 pages on Kindle. A lot of things are happening, and nothing really seems to be resolved, more problems just keep coming. But everything moves quickly and Ceres and the gang keep trying to make everything work. A good addition to the series, although I feel like this one and the next one could have been combined into one "normal" sized book.

All in all, a good read, lots of action, characters growing, and a (relatively) strong female protagonist.

I am not sure what was missing in this book that I loved so much from the other books. Where I saw strength in Thanos and Ceres before, now I see weakness and lack of thought or planning. How could they be so niave and careless while they are supposed to be the champions of this book. I am not impressed.

Each book keeps getting worse at this point but in invested in the outcome. I feel like its an editor or publishers fault and not the authors as it started so strong and each book is so short but drags relentlessly. It has so much potential to be better if it were trimmed down.

Things continue to go along with epic battles and backstabbing at its finest. It’s not a stellar read for me but I think a YA reader who’s being introduced to these type story would enjoy it. Narration is good

So moving right along with the story.
Everyone hates everyone.
Thanos is an idiot.
Stephania probably just ruined a good change to stop Felldust and she's also an idiot.
Lucious is a moron.
Lots more violence.
The story line is moving right along but I am getting bored. I feel like it getting dragged out. And the books are getting shorter...?
Hmmmm?
