Rate this book
Kai Darrow is a dragon shifter and the next leader of the Dásreach Council – that is if he and the other twelve members of the Thirteen can find their mates. Years of frustration push Kai to take action and with a little luck and finesse maybe he can find the woman of his destiny.

Alvena Anderson prefers books over people, yet she still craves love and adventure. In a rut, a trip with her Book Worm friends is just what she needs – until unexplained accidents, a Psychic reading, and a tattooed hottie from the plane make her want to run home.

Unbeknownst to the Thirteen a darkness is working against them, preventing possible mates from coming into contact with them. Working in the shadows and using human pawns, the darkness has set its sights on Alvena and her friends.

Can she accept her real life hero before it’s too late?

Josette Reuel has been creating stories since she was a small child. As an avid reader from her earliest memories, Josette enjoys many genres; however, her current passion is anything Romance. Oddly, it wasn't until her forties that her writing became a lot more grown-up. Josette believes in love at first sight, finding romance in the small things, and being open to exploring new things.

Josette writes M/F, M/M, menage, and reverse harem Contemporary, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance of varying degrees of heat. She also co-authors those genres along with Dark Romance with her critique partner, S.E. Isaac.

She believes in realism along with the fantasy and writes her characters with a variety of body types and backgrounds.

Her stories often fall within the "Forever Safe" sub-genre with their love at first sight, fated-love themes.

I,liked this book. I'm a little conflicted because the thing I liked about it most also bothered me. I like that our heroine isn't perfect. I liked watching her develop and find her way in this. But then, her uncertainties grated on me and seemed whiny. It's weird. I don't usually like to criticize a book I actually liked- but there it is. I look forward to the next installment.

This book somehow reminded me of what I once read that said some authors started writing because they couldn’t find the books that fulfilled all their wishes and needs and had to create the books that did. I obviously don’t know if this is this case but as far as my feelings towards the book go, I can say the characters and world presented didn’t leave me craving for me.
To start off, let me say there are two things I cannot stand in a romance novel, particularly a PNR. One, a spineless, witless twat of a heroine. Two, a hero that does nothing to prove he’s the Alpha he’s supposed to be characterizing. It pains me to say this book has trespassed both statements.

Alveena is supposed to be your average book worm that happens to be the destined mate of Kai, the next leader of the Dasreach people. The plot sounded appealing but the development of the story was lacking. At the beginning we get a lengthy and uninspired lesson on all Dasreach things and whatnot. So much information was thrown in there that when I finished reading that part I was ready to put the book down and I was unsure if I wanted to keep going but I thought, it’s just the beginning. Later though, we get to meet the shifters and again we get another lesson via some sort of meeting between all 15 of them. I think what transpired then was supposed to be funny but instead I found it confusing and the dialogue pointless.
Then enter the heroine. I swear I thought she was still in her teens when the story started by the way she behaved. The way she talked about her support group, that is, her “Book Worm” friends, made it sound like she needed their counsel to even take a single step. Let me tell you, there is nothing wrong with being a bluestocking, wallflower, introverted, or whatever you want to call her but please grow up and stop sounding as if you are a virginal 17 year old girl and start acting more like the 35 year old woman you are supposed to be.
And Kai, shoot me but I cannot live on a planet where the supposedly Alpha male is only so because the author keeps pushing that notion in our faces but gives no evidence of it. Yes, he was protective in a way, yes he was passionate for Alveena, yes he was described as extremely handsome with eyes to die for and even a bit charming. But he was a pushover! He wasn’t confident or alluring in the least and there was no character growth throughout the book. Half of the book he spent thinking what to do next. And almost towards the very end of the book the author throws a line saying something like “for the very first time Kai didn’t know what to do.” What? Are you kidding me?!
The full of the story is nothing but clichés and repetitive, mindless dialogue. The only reason I finished the book is because I refuse to leave a review on a story I did not finish and I cannot not finish a book and not leave a review.

-This is not an attempt to hurt the author. This is just my opinion on this book and this book alone.

(Edited bc of misspellings. Sorry!)

New authors and new series are one of my weaknesses. I just love getting the opportunity to sample a new book from a voice that I’m unfamiliar with and one that I don’t go into it with a history or familiarity. This can also be a bit of a curse because some authors don’t have the same style as X (insert the most famous author’s name here) for shifters or cowboys or maybe even contemporary. But every now and then readers are gifted with a new voice that calls to us and I think Ms. Reuel is just such a talent.

This story had depth not only in the characters but the world building that we are granted access to is stellar. The beginning of the book does have approximately 4 pages of history of the Dásreach Council which is vital to not only this story but also the entire series. But as we venture forward in the story we uncover more about the history of this civilization and its people.

Back to the characters, I feel like I know these woman. Our heroine, Alvena “Al” Anderson, is like you and I. A lover of romance books so there was an immediate affinity to her. Two of her other friends from the Book Worms club, Nat and Rogue, could be any number of my book convention friends. The diversity of the romance readers in the world is truly depicted in these characters. Nat is from upstate New York and Rogue is from Tennessee. They look at situations differently and yet when it comes to key things they have bonded over romance books and made it a vital part of their lives and holidays.

Now I’m sure you are waiting to hear about the hero of this story, Kai Darrow. This man has gone straight to the top of my book boyfriends list. Hello? He is a dragon shifter, protective of a woman he believes to be his mate, saves Al from a nasty fall and have I mentioned he has a Scottish accent.

The search for the mates of the Dásreach Council leaders has reached a critical time crunch with each male having 18 months to find their mate in order that they may become the next Council to lead their people. To add to this drama we have a series of unexplained events that will keep you on the edge of your set while you read this novel. If it tells you anything, I couldn't put this book down. I had chores to do this weekend but the only thing I was able to get done besides finishing this book was to give my amazing puppy a bath. This book is that engrossing. You have been warned.

Final Thoughts: I don’t often add a debut book to the Best of 2014 list and in fact there is only 1 other debut novel on this list but there is no way that this book can be placed anywhere else. All I can say to Ms. Reuel is “When are we getting book 2, Forcing the Bear because Coming Soon isn’t descriptive enough for moi?” *smiles*

Josette Reuel provided me with a copy of Finding the Dragon but nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.

Dasreach Council book 1

The Dasreach are shifters , every 20 years a new team of 13 are chosen to go through 20years of training. They are to be the council and their task is to protect the balance of the earth. By the end of that training they must also have a Mate, this mate provides the necessary balance. The current team are finding it hard to find their mates. They only have 18 months left to find them. So drastic measures are called for. Kai is the Dragon shifter , that makes him the leader. He decides to get out a globe and a set of darts to find where to look.

Alvena is a woman with no self confidence and serious trust issues. She does not even trust herself to make the right choices. T he friends she has made through a book group on facebook are the best friends she has ever had. There is a romance book conference coming up in New Orleans . Alvena is meeting two of her bookworm friends to go and enjoy the conference. Kai spotted Alvena before she leaves and knows she is his Mate, so he follows her.

Someone is trying to make sure none of the 13 get their mates, by killing the women that are possible matches. When several attempts have been made on Alvena ,Kai must try to get them back to home base ,but there is a traitor in the Dasreach who is sending the assassins to stop them. Alvena and Kai have an exciting cross country trip.

I found the intro and the prologue a little long winded , but you do need to read it. Once I hit the first chapter the story took off. It is an exciting and fun read. The girls friendship shows us that true friends are not necessarily the people you have known the longest or even the ones you see the most. They are the sisters of the heart who love you no matter what.´I am definitely going to read the rest of this series.

Finding the Dragon is basically about a group of male shifters trying to find their mates before its too late, and once they find them having to protect them. This specific story centers around Kai and Alvena, an their specific relationship. Kai has to protect Alvena from the crazy guys who're trying to take her out, but neither one know why she's the target. While all this is going on Kai has to convince Alvena he loves her and that they belong together, even though she doubts him at every turn.

Our heroine is Alvena is a 30 some year old woman, who's a shy bookworm. She's spends most of her time talking with her book buddies online. Her friends Rogue and Nat kinda take a backseat in this story at about the halfway point in this book. Rogue is the playful independent sorta gal, and Nat is the ex-marine who is the mommy of the group. Our hero is Kai, a yummy as sin dragon shifter who's the leader of his people. He's a sweet, thoughtful alpha- he's not overly dominant and possessive like most. You also get a glance at Kai's other brothers in arms;).

Finding the Dragon was a deliciously unique mix of paranormal romance and lore. I LOVED the changing points of view between the characters, which normally I hate. The multiple view points just completed the story, it gave you so much more depth than to just see the story from one persons eyes. I also really enjoyed the different references to books and movies, it added a fun spark of humor. The only negative thing I would have to say about this book is that at certain times you get thumped with too much description, otherwise I think it's awesome.

This is the author's debut novel in this new series 'Dasreach Council' series and I can truly say that it has to be one of the best shifter stories I've read. I loved everything about this story from the storyline, the concept of this series, the style of writing, it has warmth, it has imagination and I really loved Alvena and Kai's characters who were both strong but vulnerable at the same time. I also loved the fact that the author gave us both Alvena's and Kai's side of the story, eg. the airport scene in chapter 28. There were however a few negatives and they were in the form of spelling errors, a bit bit of repetitiveness, it ran on alittle in places and there were missed bits, like they made a point of using condoms but in one scene in the hotel in the morning nothing was used and nothing got mentioned(I do realise this is a minor error but when point has been made throughout their sexual encounters it's still an error and I look for things like that when I am reading). But saying all that it is a great start to a new series and it has alot of potential. I really loved and enjoyed this story and I cannot wait till book 2!

i truly enjoyed this book and the world created and am looking forward to the next one (please bring it out soon).
But i could only give it 4 stars for a few small reasons.
1. At times parts seemed to drag on. large amounts of descriptions and thoughts took up just a little too much time for me when i was desperate to find out what was going to happen next and i had to force myself to not skip large paragraphs.
2. The main female character's constant change of mind. She wanted him. She didn't want him. She wasn't good enough for him. And so on. She just moaned a little too much for me i guess.
But apart from that i really liked this world the writer has created and really hope that when at the end it said that the next book was 'coming soon' she means like next month lol (i can always hope).

Loved it! Lots of action, Kai and Alvena are mates but will they make it to the mating ceremony? Someone doesn't want the Dasreach to find their mates and will stop at nothing to kill them, will Kai be able to keep Alvena safe? Will the others? Its a race, Kai needs to convince Alvena that she is the one for him and that they are fated to be together but Alvena has a lot of insecurities and doesn't feel worthy! I can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the 13!!

He is Dasreach, well not just Dasreach. If he and the other 13 find their mates soon enough he will be the head man in charge. When circumstances bring about some changes and other circumstances bring some bad things to light, the race is on to work it all out. Al has some major self esteem issues which for some reason are harder for her to work through than the fact he is a dragon shifter. The fact that she annoyed me beyond reason made me kinda like her but I sure wanted to grab her and scream "Suck it up buttercup". Kai on the other hand is every woman's dream guy, oh if only shifters were real. . . *deep sigh*.

This is my first read by this author and I kicking myself for taking so long to read this. I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the rest of the brothers stories. This author is most definitely one I recommend for a wild and adventurous with a reasonable amount of passion to go with a well written tale. I look forward to watching this author and the world of the Dasreach Council come to life.

This first book that I've read in this series, Dásreach Council Novels, was so packed with both authentic and paranormal activity that it reads like I'm part of the story. We have Facebook reading teams that go to the same NOLA conference that I've also been at, dreams of going to others and meeting your favorite authors and seeing co-readers you know and others your dying to meet. It's just darn right puts me into the book along with my love of the paranormal. The story is jam packed from start to finish with sensual attractions, suspense, danger, laugh out loud action and more. I don't do spoilers, so even though I'm dying to give specifics, I'm not ruining the story for anyone. Let me just say that the story starts off with 3 of the girls and due to life dangering circumstances get separated; so book 1 focuses on one of the girls and a Dragon shifter. I read it all at one reading and didn't want it to end. You better believe I'm going to join those gals on their next adventure.

Finding the Dragon is a great set up book to the series. At the time of reading it, I had no idea that this was the author's debut novel. It is extremely well written, contains believable heroines and out of this world heroes!

Kai is every bit a strong alpha that PNR readers will love! Strong, loyal, protective and loving, not to mention HOT!

Alvena is the heroine that is a believable, flawed, human woman. Her strength and grit set her aside, but her inner dialogue is one that we may have had at one point or another in our life time. Her beauty is not only skin deep!

This opening novel to the Dasreach Council world is set up so well, it will leave you wanting more! A fast paced read, action packed and steamy romance make this PNR author rank on my list as one of my favorite PNR authors! Why don't you make her one of yours? Highly recommend. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the first book in this series and it did not disappoint. I can't wait to see what happens next in book two. It is packed from start to finish and you will not put this book down till you have read the very last page and word. There is danger, suspense, romance, chemistry, it will have you laughing out loud in some parts. This story is about 13 men who are shapeshifters and members of the Dásreach Council and are looking for their fates mates. Three friends, Alvena, Rogue and Nat who go on vacation and get a whole lot more then they bargained for. I don't want to spoil it you must read this book and you will not put it down. A must read.

Dragon shifter Kai Darrow is the chosen leader for the next Dasreach Council of Thirteen. They were chosen at age 20 and have another 20 years to train and find their mates, as dictated by their traditions. But with little more than a year to go not one of them has found their necessary mates. Now Kai has found his mate Alveena and her friends Natalie and Rogue are mates of two of his council brothers. But someone has been eliminating any possible mates and Alveena and her friends lives are in danger. A solid start for this new series.

I loved this book! I fell into the world that Josette created the legend about the Thirteen and the mates, tattoos, spirit guide animals it all worked really well together. This book is essentially the story of Alvena and Kai but it is also the beginnings of both Rogue and Malkum's and Nat and Charlie's story. We don't know anything really about what happens to Nat or Rogue after the three couples are split up. The guys are looking for their mates and must do so before their 40th birthday. Kai manages to find his mate Alvena by throwing a dart on a globe and going to the city the dart hit. Although the other thirteen men think Kai is crazy it actually works. Unknown to the men when Alvena shows up at their tattoo shop with two of her girlfriends they are also mates to two other men from the thirteen. The book is about Kai trying to get Alvena to accept him as her mate while unknown forces are trying to kill potential mates of the thirteen. A really great book for a debut author and the amazing beginnings of a new series.

Maybe its just me, but I honestly do not understand where all the 5 star rating came from.
Lets start with what I did like.
I liked the premise of the story, all Dásreach are born male, and have to find their mates in the human world.
I liked the idea that the Dásreach were all different shifters. Dragon, bear, eagle, Panther, etc.
I liked that they were guardians of the earth.

what I Disliked:
I DESPISED Alvena (AL) I don't think I can say that enough, she was afraid of everything. Panic attacks, could never see anything she did as good. always saw herself as weak. it got so, so old. I was bored with her after chapter 3.
and I wasn't a huge fan of Kai, although I didn't hate him. He cried ... I don't like my Alpha leader to cry. unless his mom dies or something else equally as horrific. but then that's just me, you may love a soft sensitive Alpha Dragon.

This review is from: Finding the Dragon (Dásreach Council Book 1) (Kindle Edition)

I really enjoyed this story very much. Of course I just love dragon shifters especially strong Scottish types. ;)
I was given this book in a contest I had won. I was so excited to finally read it.

There is a lot of action, mystery, suspense, romance, and a woman has no self esteem. Alvena... She is afraid of flying (I know that felling), and takes a vacation to meet up with some of her fellow book club friends.

Someone is out to kill her and she doesn't know why.

Kai will do whatever it takes to protect her, whatever....

I hope they all find their future, find out who is trying to kill the mates. I cannot wait till the new one comes out.

Thank you Josette it was awesome.

I enjoyed this book, but it definitely read like a first book to me. Yes, main lady Alvena is a bit weak and whiny and insecure, but guess what? So are a lot of women. It happens. Not every romance book has amazingly strong characters. Kai was all right as the romantic interest, but I found myself more interested in the side characters who get their own books later in the series. In the end though, this book has everything a steamy romance should, including several love-making sessions and a happily for now ending. And it does set up the rest of the series well, so I can see the potential for absolute greatness. We'll see what happens with Rogue in book two. It should be interesting.

I absolutely loved this book and wish i had the second one to continue on the adventure. Kia Darrow is an amazing man and can sweet talk any woman. Al is a very shy lady with trust issues but when she meets Kia she is thrown for a loop. I am glad that her and Kia are destined mates because he is proving to her that all of her insecurities are not that big, and in a way she is also helping him take the burden off his shoulders. I was lured in by the first page. I wish that I could shift into a dragon or any animal for that fact. I hope you continue to write about the Dasreach Council.

A new favorite

I loved Alvina and Kai. This was a fun book with enough action and romance to keep you turning the pages. I especially enjoyed Alvina's journey from feeling like a mouse to being a strong woman. And Kai is the kind of hero every woman wants for her own.

My only issue with this book was that it needed a little better editing. In the beginning especially, there were some changes in tenses that were a bit distracting from the great story.
