A shooting and kidnapping during a Mother’s Day celebration send Amber Monroe and her Washburn County Sheriff’s Office colleagues into a frantic search for the man responsible. With little to go on, the detectives find tracking him down to be a monumental challenge.

The bodies of three women missing from St. Paul are discovered, and a media frenzy begins when a fourth woman is found alive but clearly out of her mind. The elusive perpetrator is still at large.
As Amber’s team closes in on the location of the Mother’s Day kidnapper, they realize that their case and the killings in St. Paul have something—or someone—in common.

The full extent of this monster’s atrocities are known only when one of their own is taken. Finding their colleague is all that matters, and it’s up to Jack and Amber to track down the killer.

Note:All Amber Monroe books are standalone stories but since characters carry over, they are best read in chronological order.

Editorial Review:
“A Mother’s Day gathering in small-town Wisconsin takes a nasty turn, and Amber Monroe and the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office are called in to investigate. A man has kidnapped his estranged wife and shot her father, and the detective and her colleagues have no good leads to help them find her. Meanwhile, a serial killer has been abducting and murdering women in St. Paul, but one of them has been found alive—and babbling incoherently. Could the cases be related?
The investigation turns in a thoroughly unexpected direction, leading the detective and her friends straight to some of C. M. Sutter’s nastiest villains yet.” Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing

Didn't like the majority of the book. The only good parts were Jade scenes with Kate & the other cops, when the case starts coming together & Trish's rescue.
Once again Amber Monroe is looking at Kate's psychic abilities to solve the case for her. When will she ever learn that it doesn't work that way. She will never become a profiler if she doesn't do the hard work herself instead of looking for an easy way out. I still hate her & really think Kate should have moved out of the condo since Amber has proven in the last book that she doesn't trust her & sees her as her child instead of a friend, co-worker & roommate. I would have. Why live with someone who doesn't trust you & treats you like a child?

Domestic abuse

When a local women is kidnapped from a family gathering by her estranged husband Amber and everyone start their manhunt.
There are women's bodies being found that look like they have been beaten about the head til dead. Finding out it is something else all together changes the scope of their investigates.
This shows how men can be so cruel to women when trying to make them their slaves instead of wives.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story that make you cringe with disgust. Great series by a good author.

One to go

Well this is book four. Man, what a great author. Another suspenseful book, that was another solid page turner. For a smaller police department there sure is a lot going on and they seem to have their hands full of wackos. I again am not going to spill the beans about the story that is for you to read. I will say you won't be disappointed.

Great read

A fast paced story that combines a serial killer and a local abduction with the sheriff's department catching both of them

hard to start lbs

The concept was to find the criminals with no real leads. That required a lot of very tedious chapters going no where.

I didn't like this one as much as the others you read more about the criminals than you do about the detectives.
