USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts returns with a brand–new series set on the charming Washington coast

Once happily married, Jenna Jones is about to turn forty, and this year for her birthday – lucky her – she's getting a divorce. She's barely able to support herself and her teenage daughter, but now her deadbeat artist ex is hitting her up for spousal support…and then spending it on his “other” woman.

Still, as her mother always says, every storm brings a rainbow. And when she gets a very unexpected gift from her Great–Aunt Edie, things seem to be taking a turn for the better. Aging aunt Edie is finding it difficult to keep up her business running The Driftwood Inn, so she invites Jenna to come live with her and run the place. It looks like Jenna's financial problems are solved!

Or not. The town is a little more run–down than Jenna remembers, but that's nothing compared to the ramshackle state of The Driftwood Inn. Aunt Edie is confident they can return it to its former glory, though Jenna feels like she's jumped from the proverbial frying pan into the beach fire.

But who knows? With the help of her new friends and a couple of handsome citizens, perhaps that rainbow is on the horizon after all. Because, no matter what, life is always good at the beach.

Featuring all the warmth, romance and trademark humour of Sheila Roberts's writing, this new series will delight longtime fans and welcome a generation of new readers.

Did I read the same book as others? What takes me out of a book, even chic light, beach reading? Plot holes. I realize this will come across as negative, but they are things that bugged me about the book. I know it is a lot to expect from a summer, romancy kind of book, of which there was zero romance.. but it is what it is. I paid for the book versus getting a free copy like several who reviewed the book (I am extremely skeptical of the NetGalley reviewers - I have not seen one negative review).

I live in Washington - I kept picturing the town to be a lot like either Ocean Shores or Long Beach. But as soon as Quinault was mentioned, it took me completely out of the book. There is NO "beachy kind of beach" near Quinault. It is rain forest and rocky shores.

The whole money being a protagonist in the story "not having enough to save the inn" just bugged me. The inability to finance the inn. Banks don't want to lose money. The banker kept saying "your aunt is behind on her payments and she had mortgaged the inn". End of story, not even a believable discussion about how the main character was going to get caught up. Banks will do whatever they need to avoid foreclosure. On top of the fact that Brodie, the real estate guy, kept saying how valuable the land was. So, refinance with both the land and the inn as collateral.

And the story of her having to pay alimony. Well, for one massage therapists do NOT make that much money, probably on average of $23K a year. And to make the lead character pay her husband alimony was not a believable scenario when she should have received back child support from him.

The characters were too one-dimensional. The nerdy, pocket protector accountant, the "i won't give you a loan" banker. Aunt Eddie was an unbelievable hot mess. And Pete... there was an allusion that he was more to Eddie, but I can't in my wildest dreams imagine she'd allow him to stay rent free, doing nothing. And to be that cantankerous, and lazy... made for an unpleasant character. I can take cantankerous with those who work or still do good quietly. I did like the owner of the hardware store.

And to have it mentioned several times throughout the book how they were "strong women" did not shine through the lead character.

It is my review.

My Opinion:
This was an enjoyable book about second chances. This is a lighthearted women's fiction book about a mother (Jenna) that is trying to start over after some bad breaks. She is divorced and has to pay him spousal support and things are rough for her and her daughter. Then her second chance comes in the form of a rundown hotel that her Aunt Edie isn't able to take care of. She writes to Jenna to ask her to come help her with the Inn and that way she will have something for her and her daughter when Aunt Edie passes away.

In this book, they had lots of everyday struggles and some non existing solutions to some of those problems. Which at one point, was just so far fetched for me, but I went with it. Everything was pretty predictable in the book and really it was real life struggles so that can get pretty predictable. I didn't like how she didn't have a backbone with her daughter and let her daugther pretty much walk all over her or that she didn't really tell her kid the truth about her father. That was just dumb and not very sound parenting - just my opinion. But, it flowed well and had some really funny moments in it. So I did at some points laugh out loud and I enjoyed it overall.

The story flowed well and wasn't boring. It had great writing and I enjoyed the book overall. This isn't my normal genre so I was very happy to read it. I just wish some of those decisions would have been different. There was a twist and a turn here and there so it kept the book interesting and kept you reading. I didn't like the ending - it kind of just left some things in the air. I guess for a book two, which would be nice, so we can see what happens with others in the story. We got to meet a bunch of characters that will set up more books in this series. I love that her daughter took pictures for the inn and I loved her Aunt Edie. Overall this was a good read and I enjoyed it.

I give this book 4 of 5 stars!

This a brand new series for Sheila Roberts and I say it is off to a great beginning and cannot wait to read the next book!
Sheila Roberts writes with such emotion and real life problems. She has a way of pulling you into the story. A heartwarming story that will pull at your heartstrings. Jenna moves to Moonlight Harbor with her daughter Sabrina after her divorce to try and make a new life for them. Aunt Edie invites her to help renovate the Driftwood Inn, which needs a lot of work. Can Jenna make a new life for her daughter and herself and in the process save the Driftwood Inn? Read the story to find out. I hightly recommend this book!

A well-written story that I enjoyed listening to.
The struggles and challenges of raising teens was very realistic and the romance was light and predictable.
This is my first novel by Sheila Roberts and I plan to read the next book in her Moonlight Harbor series.

Wanted to like it but the characters were all really irritating. Didn't particularly enjoy the premise and couldn't see much redeeming in Jenna. No HEA, relationships left unfulfilled. Not for me.

Moonlight Harbor is going to be a fun community to visit. Jenna has her hands full. Sabrina makes me very, very glad that I am not the mother of a teenager. Once was enough!! I am curious to see where we go with Brody and Seth.

This was a wonderful start to The Moonlight Harbor series. Sheila Roberts does woman's fiction and romance so well.
When Jenna Jones world is turned up side down, her great aunt comes to the rescue by giving Jenna and her daughter Sabrina a new chance a new beginning. So they move to Moonlight Harbor and take over the thriving Inn her aunt owns. But little did Jenna know that the Driftwood Inn, which once thrived in this seaside town was in such bad shape and it needed a ton of money put into it to bring it back to life. Which neither her aunt Edie or Jenna had the funds to do it.
So Jenna puts her heart and sole into making the very much needed repairs and along the way, friends, family plus two men who Jenna is attracted to in their own way, she comes to find that even when clouds are stormy, rainbows can be found.

I really enjoyed this first book and I can't wait to find out who's next to find their rainbow in Moonlight Harbor.

Sweet

It was a very sweet and touching book. For a great niece who needed a new beginning for herself and her daughter, to go and help out her elderly aunt with a falling down hotel. I would recommend it to anyone.

Rating as a movie: PG-13 for adult language and sexual innuendos

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My thoughts: 📖 Page 120 of 355 Ch. 8 - This is exactly the type of story I was looking for. I love it and am so excited.
📖 280 Ch. 17 - Only stopping because I need to sleep. I think I'm going to love this series.

This felt more realistic than most books in this genre. My biggest issue was the MC covering for her ex; I never understood that. Your kid should know their dad has flaws, especially if you have to hide them on his behalf. Overall, I loved the town, the townies, and most of the characters in general. Most of all, I enjoyed not knowing what was going to happen as this is pretty much Women's Fiction. I don't even know why it was listed under Romance; it's severely lacking in that department unless the next book is going to have the same main characters.

Recommend to others?: Absolutely. This book was fun and well-written.

After a bitter divorce, Jenna needs a change of scenery in her life with her teenaged daughter. Jenna's elderly aunt asks her to move to the beach to assist her in taking care of the inn she owns. Jenna views this as a great opportunity which she accepts but her daughter is not very happy. When Jenna sees the condition of the inn, she wonders if she made the right decision.

This story is for those readers who like a lighter fare, feel-good story. The romance is light with only a few kisses. An occasional four letter word leaps in. I enjoyed reading about the remodeling of the inn. Aunt Edie is a great cook so the food is highlighted.

Bought this book at a fundraiser for a quarter. The storyline is good but the presentation failed to keep me engaged. Most of the book was spent on describing Sabrina's bad attitude, Aunt Edie's constant baking, and Jenna's disappointment in both Pete the handyman and Damien the cheating ex-husband and bad father figure. It just moved way too slow for me.

Enjoyed the story, but don’t understand why we have to write 14-year-olds as such immature, whiny, disrespectful brats.

Welcome to the picturesque coastal town of Moonlight Harbor, Washington!

In Welcome To Moonlight Harbor, the first book of the Moonlight Harbor series, author Sheila Roberts provides her readers with a heartwarming story that follows forty-year-old divorcee Jenna Jones as she embarks on a journey to rebuild her life in Moonlight Harbor.

On her fortieth birthday, Jenna Jones celebrates her birthday and divorce from her cheating, deadbeat, wannabe artist husband Damien Petit. As her reward for being the responsible one in the marriage, the court deemed that since she was the main support and wage earner for the family, they awarded spousal support to her struggling artist ex-husband and new girlfriend until he could get on his feet. Financially strapped and not sure what to do to stay afloat, Jenna receives a birthday card and note from her Great Aunt Edie, who asks her to come to Moonlight Harbor and help her renovate and run her motel, The Driftwood Inn. Aunt Edie has already bequeathed the motel to Jenna in her will and hopes that she won't refuse her offer. Jenna hasn't visited Moonlight Harbor in a long time, but she has fond childhood memories, and Jenna knows that this is just what she needs to rebuild her life if she could only convince her surly fourteen-year-old daughter Sabrina.

Moonlight Harbor is a coastal town whose lifeblood depends on tourism. Jenna is excited to see Aunt Edie and get started on the motel's renovation project, that is until she arrives to find the motel and her aunt's house in a rundown ramshackle condition. Aunt Edie is convinced that they can restore The Driftwood Inn to its former glory, and with a little luck and a lot of help and support from the friendly coastal town community, Jenna may get that new beginning after all!

Welcome To Moonlight Harbor is a delightful story that flows seamlessly and is engaging and fun. It has a lot of humorous scenes that will keep you entertained. I really enjoy the author's descriptive style of writing, she has a way of drawing the reader into the story, you feel like you have been transported into Jenna's life and the lives of the townspeople of Moonlight Harbor. It's a whimsical story about family and friends, of community spirit, and of course, there is romance thrown into the mix. I loved how each chapter begins with Jenna's daily to-do list, I think it was a great lead into each chapter.

With a lovable cast of characters, humorous dialogues and interactions, and a richly detailed description of the town of Moonlight Harbor, Welcome To Moonlight Harbor is a lighthearted story full of second chances, love, laughter, community spirit, and friendship that will leave you wanting to return to Moonlight Harbor for another enjoyable visit.

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 4.5/5

“Don’t let the fear of the unknown keep you tethered in a place where you can’t prosper.”

I was so excited to dive in and start one of Sheila Roberts’ most beloved series and it did not disappoint. Her stories are such well-developed works of women’s fiction that bring raw and real-life scenarios right to the forefront.

Recently divorced Jenna Jones and her teenage daughter, Sabrina, are about to hit restart on their entire life. Jenna’s cheating ex-husband is an “aspiring” artist who plans to take Jenna for all he can financially, and his daughter is the last thing on his mind - a fact that she tries so hard to protect Sabrina from. She has no idea what a loser her father is. When Jenna gets an invitation from her great Aunt Edie to help run the Driftwood Inn in Moonlight Harbor, she is thrilled at the possibilities. Deep down Jenna knows this is exactly the change that she and Sabrina could use. Only, surprise of all surprises…when they arrive in town, they realize that the Driftwood Inn is nothing more than a dilapidated disaster. What used to be so sweet and quaint, is honestly more the lines of a horror film motel. LOL

Teenage Sabrina is beside herself with anger. She doesn’t want to live anywhere near this dump and she misses her dad and her friends. Jenna and Sabrina continually butt heads over all the challenges they’re faced with. And the reality is, without proper funding, this entire “fresh” start feels more like GAME OVER.

Alas, never underestimate the power of prayer and good-hearted humans. Moonlight Harbor seems to be a community willing to lend a helping hand. And bonus, some of them are quite handsome. An inspiring story on starting over and I can’t wait to continue in the series.

4.5 star clean rating for around a dozen mild swear words. NO F-words and NO spice.

Roberts kicks off her new series with this delightful story of family, friendship and new beginnings. The vividly-drawn coastal Washington setting comes alive (and may cause serious cravings for caramel corn, blackberry coffee cake, bubble gum ice cream and saltwater taffy). Readers will instantly relate to Jenna Jones as she heads to Moonlight Harbor to recover from her bitter divorce and help her great-aunt Edie restore The Driftwood Inn. Handyman (use that term loosely) Pete and Jolly Roger the parrot bring humor, and Aunt Edie brings a little bit of sass. The ups and downs of the bigger-than-she-anticipated renovations and her tumultuous relationship with her hurting teenage daughter threaten to break Jenna’s spirit but her resolve – and the genuine friendships she forms in the process – is inspiring. A couple of romantic potentials simmer in the background, a tough choice for Jenna and ultimately for readers since both men are good guys who also happen to be good-looking.

Finding Home

Welcome to Moonlight Harbor was a delightful read. Ms. Roberts is wonderful at creating characters to care about, dislike, or hope for. This book is no exception. My disappointment was the results of Jenna's divorce. It can be argued that her ex did not have a steady income and deserved support. However, Jenna ended up with her ex having no responsibility for child support. His lack of involvement in his daughter's life was also problematic. A good lawyer and a family court referee and judge would not have allowed such inequality. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Loved the story and the characters are REALLY characters! Jenna Jones is having a rough go of it and let's throw in a teenager with tons of angst for fun! Ex-husband? Typical behavior but not written as canned by the author; he's just a sleazeball. Two hot guys who peak her interest -- even though she is SO not ready for any kind of relationship. An aunt who is a peach but a little flighty. And a "handyman" -- and I use the term loosely -- who could be better called "mooch", at least as far as Jenna is concerned.

Great start to a new series, for me. I waited to start reading with the purchase of book 3 so I took my time reading. It's fun and frustrating and has lots of relationship twists and curves. I'll keep reading to find out what happens to these folks!

Really more 3 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed the beginning but Jenna's daughter quickly got on my last nerve. Spoiled brat comes to mind. And Jenna allowed the rudeness. She didn't get any better. I can only hope if this family is the main characters for the next book, she will be written as maturing. It did make me grateful my daughter isn't like that. I also dislike Brody. He's awful. I suspect she'll eventually end up with Seth (at least I hope 🤦🏻‍♀️) there's a lot of single women in this time, I'm guessing they all get their book!

A good feeling story about never giving up and never giving in to defeat or despair. The central character is Jenna Jones who is recently divorced and has moved herself and her daughter to a town on the Washington coast to start over. She is going to help her aunt run a motel that has been in the family for years. The book was a quick easy read with likeable characters.

Cute book but not a romance book at all, maybe straight fiction. It was a good reminder to keep looking for a rainbow through the storm and to never give up. Things always work out the way they were meant to.
