Rô Bốt Rồn - Rột!

Rate this book

“My mum and dad are busy.

So just last night they said,

“We decided to buy these fantastic

robots to get you into bed.”

I thought they must be joking.

But Dad switched the robots on.

Mum said, “They’re the latest models.

What could possibly go wrong?””

Mẹ tớ và ba tớ bận ghê.

Thế nên tối qua ba mẹ bảo,

“Ba mẹ quyết định mua đám rô bốt tuyệt hảo này

để ru con ngủ ngay”.

Tớ nghĩ ba mẹ giỡn chơi

Nhưng trời ơi ba khởi động liền tụi nó.

Mẹ nói, “Đời mới nhất đó nha.

Sao có chuyện phiền hà?””

Rô bốt rồn – rột! nằm trong danh sách vòng chung kết giải thưởng Sách thiếu nhi Scottland (Scottish Children's Book Award).

The illustrations are colorful and bring the book to life. The rhyme scheme is another matter. It's choppy and doesn't read smoothly.
The story can be read on several levels. The parents leave robots in charge of their daughter as they leave for an evening out. This can be a simple evening to a statement on how much we use technology to "babysit" depending on the age of the audience.
The humor comes through easily. The evening starts well until the bath-bot can't tell the difference between a toy crocodile and the real thing. From there, the evening disintegrates as many readers would expect.

The illustrations for this book are fantastic, but I just couldn't get over how bad the meter was. I think you should either choose to rhyme and make the rhythm work, or keep to prose...

This lighthearted picture book is set in a time when there are robots for everything, from cleaning to brushing teeth. "Teeth-Bot Model No: 12087 TIRED OF BRUSHING YOUR GNASHERS? LET TEETH-BOT MAKE YOUR SMILE DAZZLE YOUR FRIENDS!" So Mum and Dad leave for a night out with confidence that their seven robots can take care of their daughter. "They're the latest models. What could possibly go wrong?" At first all goes well with the Cook-bot and the Clean-bot, but then the Wash-bot goes on red alert after seeing the girl's snapping toy crocodile. It's total chaos after that. A lively rhyming picture book that will appeal to little robot fans.

We love this book, It is a great bedtime treat, it is a pleasure to read out loud and the illustrations are exciting and full of little jokes. The tale is a dire warning about what can happen if you leave kids alone with technology :/

Because Mum and Dad are busy, they decide to buy robots to put their daughter to bed. At first, things work out. One of the robots makes spaghetti and another cleans up after dinner is over. However, when the Wash-bot tries to give her a bath and sees her alligator bath toy, the robot becomes convinced that the girl is in danger and starts a chain reaction of the robots getting confused and causing all kinds of problems. In the end, the girl has to put herself to bed and wait for her parents to come home to deal with the mess that the robots made.

For children who like robots this can be a great story to read. The meter and rhyme doesn’t always work right, which tends to distract from the lively, brightly-colored illustrations and the humorous events of the story. Even though the text can be off, older readers will enjoy the hidden gems in the illustrations and the idea of getting help with battling through bedtime routines, and younger readers will giggle at what the robots do when they’re not sure how to react to the situation they are in. Fans of robots will enjoy this bedtime story even though it’s not the easiest to read out loud.

When Mum and Dad want to go out for the evening they come up with the clever idea of buying a whole bunch of robots to put their young daughter to bed. But did they think this through? All starts out well enough but when wash-bot spots a dangerous animal in the bath it starts a hilarious chain reaction of mayhem.

This is a fabulous story that will have children giggling with glee as they see all the things that can go wrong when a bedtime routine is entrusted to a bunch of robots. The illustrations are bright and busy and the rhyming text is fun and quirky. Great for kids who like robots and parents who can see the attraction of contracting out the bedtime battles.

The rhymes were really rough in several spots which kind of ruined the story for me. It would have been more enjoyable if I didn't have to stop and figure out how to make the rhyme work. The rhythm just wasn't there. Kind of disappointed because I really like the premise and the illustrations.

British accent for this story about robot squirting paste down the loo, and failing to keep things tidy. Forced rhymes are tiresome, but some robot fans may love the creativity of semi-recycled futuro/antique robots.

This one got some laughs with the four year olds. Silly, with spaghetti and toothpaste and toilet jokes.

Some busy (i.e. self-involved) parents purchase robots to do all the chores associated with putting their daughter to bed. Hijinx ensue when the robots malfunction.

Great illustrations!
