FINDING MY FEET is the second instalment of THE RELUCTANT EXPAT, Alan Laycock’s light-hearted account of his life in Spain. Part Three of Alan’s story is now also available.
A stroll through the author's life in Spain with a weird neighbour and a discovery of the pleasure of market gardening. An ok read but I could have done without his introduction of attempts at emulating film characters.
The storyline flows we!l, continuing seamlessly from part 1. I like the spanis h words intermingled with the English. I can test myself. Very impressed with Alan's command of the Spanish language in less than a year and his sister and brother in law need commending as well. All of their lives are progressing so differently from their native Yorkshire and all of the people that they meet are described so well by Alan. A good read for the would be expat deciding to live in the campo or the coast.
A funny delightful story, great characters and wonderful descriptions. Alan has an ability to make you smell and feel beautiful Andelusia. Looking forward very much to book the to find out what happens next.
I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you. My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it. If there are too many typos or errors the less stars I give If the storyline or plot is poor or contains too many errors, the characters are too weak, the ending lacking something, then the less stars I give. Simple, uncomplicated and to the point without giving anything away. Some of the books I read have been given to me by the author as a pre-release copy and this does not bias my reviews in any way.
Alan finds friendship and romance in this second installment of life as an expat in Spain. Alan has made himself at home in his new environment and cannot imagine returning to England. After a vacation to England his sister and brother-in-law begin to follow Alan's lead and assimilate to life in Spain.
The author is whitty and honest. He does not hesitate to share his less than stellar moments in his new homeland. I am looking forward to reading the third installment.
Grand 2nd instalment to this smashing little saga. Nice easy read, goes along at a relaxed pace. All the characters from the 1st book, with some new ones thrown into the mix. Certainly well worth a read and on another positive note, two more available in the series.
I am really enjoying the author's style of writing. It's like having a chat with a witty friend. In this second book we discover more a out the kindness and insecurities of our British coin collector after moving to Spain. char.ing!
I loved book two even more than book one. I love how the author draws us into the local Spanish village life. I love how their lives are transformed by Spain. I love how the author embraces expat life and makes Spanish friends.
A delightfully entertaining read. The characters are just that characters with funny little ways and sayings that make the reader laugh. Can't wait to read the next part.
Very enjoyable follow up to the opener. Some great characters introduced with good story lines. Good language learning interest with a bit of romance thrown in.
I love Alans style of writing. The story just flows along with interesting characters in the book and the great way that the author comes across, I felt I have got to know him.
