I am not getting used to Miss Drake's writing style. It is a bit confusing. I thought I was missing chapters or explanation between the important scenes. It seems Miss Drake does not dwell into giving reason or explanation between scenes. But those reasons or explanation is inserted into the dialog.
I do like Mark. He has this funny, sweet, vulnerable side of him. He has a traumatic past especially with his mom and his brother. I am glad he found friendship with Cole. The banter is fun and cute at some moments and boring at other moments. Mia is not well developed as Mark's equal. She is more damsel in distress.
I want to read more of Miss Drake's books. So I can familiar myself with her writing style.

Mi aspettavo molto di più...
Libro scialbo e per niente avvincente.
Banale e scontato con colpi di scena prevedibili.
Stile scorrevole ma, per quanto mi riguarda, è scritto malissimo.

Confesso di non conoscere questa autrice e la relativa trilogia affine a questo libro, però, attratta dalla sua trama mi ci sono fiondata pregustando un bel military romance. Purtroppo, però, non è stato come mi aspettavo e ne sono rimasta abbastanza delusa.
Non so se sia stato il numero esiguo di pagine che non ha permesso un'evoluzione ed approfondimento dei sentimenti dei protagonisti o proprio lo stile dell'autrice, ma la relazione tra Mark e Mia non mi ha coinvolta, così come le scene di sesso le ho trovate poco emozionanti (e una anche abbastanza inverosimile)
Invece presi singolarmente, Mark e Mia sono due bei personaggi con un passato ed un presente toccante ed è questa la parte che mi ha emotivamente coinvolta di più.
Per quanto riguarda la parte military mi è piaciuta di più nella seconda metà perché, a differenza della prima, l'ho trovata dinamica e ricca di colpi di scena!
Una nota va al bellissimo rapporto che intercorre tra tutti i membri del corpo militare Blackstone (su tutti tra Mark e suo "fratello" Cole), si percepisce il senso di famiglia, d'amore, di condivisione e conforto soprattutto nei momenti più tristi.

My lingering question I had from the previous books where Mark was a secondary character was why the Hubba Bubba gum? Suffice it to say, Ms. Drake answered the question and there is a whole lengthy reason behind it. What I have discovered from this author’s writing is that she doesn’t put a detail in a book just to take up space. There is a reason it’s inserted, and sometimes that reason may not be divulged immediately, but when it is it is a crucial part of the story. Mark’s story is made up of flashbacks to the time when he was 7 years old and chewing bubble gum. It is at this age that he meets Cole and forms a brotherly bond. Mark is now part of Cole’s special ops private sector. His missions are all secretive and because of his unpredictable schedule and inability to say where he’s going, it’s pretty hard to have a girlfriend.
Mia is a nurse working at the same hospital that Mark and his crew use for those times when they can’t fix up their own men. She knows more about them than she initially lets on. If there was a quality of Mia’s that I did not like it would be that she was always at the hospital! She was a very caring person and it showed in how she devoted herself to her job.
Mark and Mia have an attraction towards one another and they are both fully aware of the consequences forming a relationship would have. Can Mark focus on Mia and his job? Can Mia live with the unpredictability? Or maybe neither of those factors will play a part in the decision as Mia’s past is revealed and causes a disruption in the entire safe house.
"This house is built on truth, and you broke rule number one by lying to Mark about who you are."
Besides dealing with Mia’s issue, Mark has a person from his past withholding the truth that would finally allow the demons from Mark’s past escape. His person isn’t going to go down lightly and not on his own. There’s also special ops action that makes you hold your breath"Man down! I repeat, man down!"
I didn’t have the connection with Mark and Mia like I had with Cole and Savannah. I just couldn’t feel anything palpable coming from the pages. The story is well written and I will continue to look forward to what this author bring us.

Secrets, lies and love….
Mark and Mia’s story was complicated, shrouded in secrecy from the start. I felt a bit lost at the beginning, like I walked into a story already started and I was joining at the third chapter. Happily, those feelings quickly faded as the characters slowly but surely opened up…
Mark and Mia were no stranger to hurt and their stories, weaved amongst missions and brothers in arms, unfolded in a way that had me crying as well as laughing… They felt right together even as life, and their own choices, transpired to keep them apart.
“Either be honest, or let him go.”
They were both sweet and kind, showing their compassion for family and friends even as they each struggled to find happiness and contentment. How could a strong, tough Major be sweet and kind? Somehow he pulled it off with his way with kittens, dogs, babies and all…
“Then there’s Mark. Lord, that man sends sparks directly to my well.”
This was a military romance with lots of heart-pounding action but what surprised me was the very human element to it all. These were real people trying to do the right thing but there were painful costs to pay along the way…
“I shared more with you than anyone. You were my person.”
This story got to me in its quiet, steady, heart-hurting, way. More is definitely needed!

I’m so pleased to have gotten to read Mark’s story! He was my favourite of the Blackstone team in the Broken trilogy, since he’s sweet, funny, and harbors a mysterious, dark past. We finally got to unearth his story in this book, and it was heartbreaking and made me love him even more. Mia was a relatable heroine, and it was refreshing to read about a normal woman falling in love in this type of dark romance.
While this book was told from both Mark and Mia’s points of view, we also got the occasional chapter from the perspective of a third character, who (no spoilers!) really added to the suspense plotline. There were several great twists and turns in the plot, and literally one twist had me shook because I did not see it coming! 5 stars.

Rieccoci Dreamers con un nuovo romantic suspense firmato J.L. Drake.
Blackstone – tra le tue braccia è il primo volume dell’omonima serie, a sua volta spin-off della Broken Trilogy. Andiamo a scoprire, infatti, la storia di Mark, migliore amico e collega del protagonista della precedente trilogia.
Purtroppo, come già mi era successo per le altre storie dell’autrice, il libro, dopo un promettente inizio, non ha saputo mantenere alta la mia attenzione.
È proprio il principio la parte più interessante e coinvolgente, la parte nella quale Mark, agente speciale della Blackstone, dopo essere stato ferito nell’ultima missione viene portato in ospedale ed è qui che conosce Mia, l’infermiera che si occupa di lui.
Le loro interazioni sono subito caratterizzate da punzecchiamenti e un serrato corteggiamento da parte di Mark, più che mai deciso a far parte della vita di Mia.
Un desiderio, questo, che non è mai nato in lui, non sino a questo momento. Conduce, infatti, la classica vita da militare delle forze speciali, non può dare troppe spiegazioni sul suo lavoro o sul motivo delle sue prolungate assenze, ma per la prima volta, dopo aver conosciuto Mia, sente il bisogno di creare qualcosa di duraturo, di molto più profondo delle solite avventure a cui è abituato.
Mark è un uomo che non ha avuto un’infanzia facile o felice e lo scopriremo grazie ai vari salti nel passato. È stato un bambino umiliato, maltrattato, ignorato, ma questo non gli ha impedito di diventare l’uomo d’onore che lui oggi è, grazie anche alla famiglia del suo migliore amico – fratello. Ma il passato non vuole lasciarlo andare, costringendolo ancora una volta a un doloroso faccia a faccia con il suo segreto.
Come vi dicevo, la parte iniziale, ossia tutta la fase del corteggiamento e della conoscenza dei protagonisti è la parte più interessante perché, a un certo punto, circa a metà libro, ho avuto come la sensazione che la storia, il suo lato romantico quantomeno, si sia andata arenando; ho trovato la relazione tra i due protagonisti non sviluppata come avrei voluto, quasi priva di qualsiasi emozione. Così come ho trovato incoerenti alcuni atteggiamenti di Mark sul finale della storia, o piuttosto da un uomo come lui mi sarei aspettata qualcosina in più.

Oh my gosh, these Blackstone men never ever disappoint! My sweet, sweet Major Mark Lopez—you didn't fail me. I never thought I could love you this much, but holy cheeseballs, you sucked me in and made me fall even harder! I've always loved Mark's humor and ability to defuse such heavy situations with his light demeanor. But what I fell for completely when I got to know him even more was how truly soft and huge his heart is. You might've successfully tricked me in your carefree, happy-go-lucky facade, Major Lopez, but what you went through as a kid gutted me deep. Nobody—no kid—deserves to experience something that horrible. Yet, it's what made you who you are and brought you to where you are now.
And Mia Harper—gosh, she's just the perfect woman for Mark. She utterly complemented his personality and she was the only one with the special powers to ground such an alpha who is haunted by his own demons and is sucked back into the darkness every single day. Just like Mark, this woman has a marshmallow heart of her own. It helped even more that she was so passionate about her job being a nurse. I loved her dedication to her patients, to be honest. And she fits perfectly with the entire Blackstone family too. What more can you ask for?
Honor is the first book of the Blackstone series, which is a spin off from J.L. Drake's Broken series. And once again, Ms. Drake has fully delivered and gave us one of the most anticipated stories of the Blackstone men. The plot twists were mind blowingly amazing and you won't stand a chance on stopping once you get started.
And Mia Harper—gosh, she's just the perfect woman for Mark. She utterly complemented his personality and she was the only one with the special powers to ground such an alpha who is haunted by his own demons and is sucked back into the darkness every single day. Mark gehört den Blackstone an - einer Spezialeinheit ,die immer dorthin geschickt wird wos brenzlig ist.Und nun wird Mark von einer Kugel getroffen und muss nach North Dakota ins Krankenhaus wo ihn Mia als krankenschwester versorgt. Beide haben mit ihren Dämonen aus der Vergangenheit zu kämpfen und doch ist da eine Anziehungskraft sonders gleichen . Mia weiss was die Blackstones sind und verliert darüber kein Wort, was Mark zu schätzen weiss.
Mia zeigt reges Interesse an Mark und motiviert ihn immer wieder sich nicht auf zu geben.
Eine wunderschöne ,spannende Geschichte ,die ich verschlungen habe.

Salve ragazzi, oggi vi parlo di Blackstone, libro di J. L. Drake, edito Newton Compton Editori.
Blackstone è una storia sicuramente ben scritta, forte come i suoi protagonisti Mark, Paul, Cole, John, Keith; uomini dell’esercito che si dimostrano coraggiosi durante le loro missioni, responsabili al punto da essere capaci di portare a termine compiti mai identici e sempre con un grado di difficoltà sopra la media. Uomini bellissimi, generosi, con un grande cuore, dediti alla propria famiglia e pronti a sacrificarsi per il prossimo.
Questo romance racconta dell’amore tra il maggior Mark Lopez dell’esercito degli Stati Uniti e l’infermiera Mia Harper del Nord Dakota Hospital. Il simpatico e spiritoso Mark sempre pronto a farti ridere anche quando la tua giornata non è delle migliori, e l’infermiera più affettuosa e generosa dell’ospedale. Così amorevole da essere considerata come una madre da un povero ragazzo paziente, Kenny, il figlio della sua migliore amica, affetto dalla MCJ (la malattia di Creutzfeldt-Jakob).

Fin da subito tra Mark e Mia nasce un feeling speciale, un’attrazione reciproca e pagina dopo pagina si comprende come entrambi stiano diventando per l’altro un’ancora, un sostegno nei momenti del bisogno. Lui le dona il sorriso quando in ospedale non si riescono a salvare tutti i pazienti e Mia riesce a riportare Mark alla realtà, a distrarlo dall’orrore di tutte le missioni finite male.
“Non c’erano lacrime, ma la crudezza della voce bastò a farmi sentire il suo dolore. «Ho bisogno che mi riporti indietro… che tu mi faccia tornare me stesso».” (Tratto dal libro)
Tanti sono i contrattempi, gli episodi di vita quotidiana, la suspense che uniti ai capitoli troppo lunghi possono appesantire un po’ questo libro. Le descrizioni e le emozioni dettagliate, però, aggiunte al POV alternato e uno stile fluido, fanno sì che il romanzo si viva in prima persona in un modo unico e forte, come un vero combattente, sono pronta per il sequel.

Fin da subito tra Mark e Mia nasce un feeling speciale, un’attrazione reciproca e pagina dopo pagina si comprende come entrambi stiano diventando per l’altro un’ancora, un sostegno nei momenti del bisogno. Lui le dona il sorriso quando in ospedale non si riescono a salvare tutti i pazienti e Mia riesce a riportare Mark alla realtà, a distrarlo dall’orrore di tutte le missioni finite male.

Tanti sono i contrattempi, gli episodi di vita quotidiana, la suspense che uniti ai capitoli troppo lunghi possono appesantire un po’ questo libro. Le descrizioni e le emozioni dettagliate, però, aggiunte al POV alternato e uno stile fluido, fanno sì che il romanzo si viva in prima persona in un modo unico e forte, come un vero combattente, sono pronta per il sequel.

This would be my second read by J.L Drake and I found it enjoyable , the story line kept me on my toes didn't know what to expect there was a lot jaw dropping moments that I didn't see coming . Mark and Mia are great together they just clicked , as a hero Mark is very lovable after everything that he faced at a young age he shined really wanted to give him a hug when it would do flashbacks so happy he found a family that opened their arms to him , Mia's such a kindhearted person also very likable she was made to be a nurse that brightens her patients day and her dog is so adorable . When these two keep running into one another they couldn't fight the building attraction the intimate scenes are written very tastefully with a little heat . Love the Blackstone gang can't wait to see more from them so excited for the next one .

Wow… LOVED Mark in the Broken Trilogy and this made me fall more in love with him! So nice to see the rest of the characters involved in this book as well, with the focus remaining on Mark. SO GOOD!

You know that awesome feeling you get when you read something and the author's talent shines through and you finally see it?
That just happened to me with Honor.
Mark sweet, sexy, strong Mark.I love that big hunk of a man.
We get to see a more vulnerable side of him. Which just breaks my heart and made me fall more in love with him. The situation he’s in, it’s twisted and horrific. He has some weak moments, but it’s Mia this time helping him.
This is one of those books that will just make you feel everything. One you won’t forget.
You will see how the military life truly is, families struggles, sacrifices, their loyalties, their heartaches.
Each one of the men in the Blackstone Special Ops Team holds a special place in my heart!

where do I begin?
I fell in love with Mark when we met him in Cole&Savi story. he was funny and easy going he always made my smile. you could see that he loved Cole and he will do anything for him. so when Jodi announced the she is writing the Blackstone series I was so happy. I had high expectations for this book .guess what? the book met them.
the story line was sharp, the characters didnt fail. I couldn't leave the book until I finished it.
Mark was Mark,but you get to see who he really is. there is more to him then just the cool easy going guy.
Mia was so lovey, My heart broke for her at times.
so do I recommend this book? hell yes!!!
I can wait for the book about Keith!!!!!!!!

I love this book!!! It was everything I expected it to be an soo much more, if you didn't fall in love with mark before you will now!! Jodi brings out every emotion you have in this book from laughing like crazy to crying like a baby!!

Mark has been my favorite since book one and finally we got his story. This book covers it all. You'll laugh, cry and bite your finger nails off. I love the bond they all have. They really are one big happy family. If Mark wasn't one of your favorites before he will be after this book. Loved it!

Carissime Cercatrici son qui oggi a parlarvi del nuovo libro di J.L.Drake dal titolo Tra le tue braccia primo della trilogia Blackstone. La storia raccontata in prima persona con pov alternati parla di un gruppo di soldati addestrati in missioni ad alto rischio. Mark il nostro protagonista maschile era ancora molto piccolo quando la sua vita ha preso un risvolto drammatico, per fortuna nel suo cammino c’era qualcuno che gli ha teso una mano aiutandolo a sopravvivere e rendere dignitosa la sua vita. Da grande si trasforma in un soldato su cui si può sempre contare, un collega e un amico dal cuore d’oro con tutti. Durante una missione qualcosa va storto e in ospedale farà la conoscenza di Mia e tra loro nascerà qualcosa di puro e profondo, un sentimento che neppure i segreti e la distanza riusciranno a spezzare. Mia è un infermiera dal carattere schivo e molto riservato. Adora il suo lavoro, non dà confidenza a nessuno ma l’incontro col nostro sexy soldato cambierà tante cose. Quando i demoni del passato busseranno alle loro porte riusciranno a superare tutte le difficoltà? Quando verranno svelati tutti i segreti riusciremo a comprendere meglio tutti i dettagli di questa storia.

Questo libro è ben scritto e ha uno stile semplice e scorrevole, la gran parte della storia è ricca di suspense e tiene incollati alla lettura. L’unico neo è ancora una volta colpa di un editing poco curato ma nonostante questo consiglio questa lettura a tutte coloro che amano storie con sexy soldati che non sono solo forti ma anche sensibili e affettuosi.

Hero by JL Drake is a wonderful book. JL Drake has been a favorite of mine for a while now and she did not disappoint with Honor! This book had me feeling all the feels. I was angry, happy, sad and actually laughed out loud at some points.
I advise to read the Broken series before this one. There are some spoilers in this book.
We first meet Mark during the Broken series. He is part of the Blackstone army special ops team. He is the funny one of the team. When there is a serious moment he is there to lighten everyone's mood.
If there is a medical emergency, the team will go to a specific hospital in North Dakota. While there, Mark meets a cute little nurse, Mia. He wins her over with his charm and humor while simultaneously winning the hearts of all the nurses and getting on the bad side of the main doctor on the floor. A doctor who has in eyes set on Mia as well. Will he win her heart? Or will she go with the safer choice?
Mark has inner demons. Some that only his best friend, Cole, and his adoptive mother, Abigail, know about. He has major trust issues because of his past and the damage his brother and mother did to him when he was a child.
Mia is a nurse at North Dakota, she followed a particular patient that she is close to. While working there she meets the Blackstone team and begins to create a relationship with the men.
It's hard to give details on this book without giving away spoilers. But, this book is amazing!!! Like I said before, this book will have you feeling every emotion. It was a book that I couldn't put down until I finished. It does have some action as well which is always a good thing!!

Il maggiore Lopez ha il sorriso sempre pronto, ha carisma, è affascinante e nelle situazioni più difficili è in prima linea a combattere i cattivi insieme ai suoi compagni, che sono anche la sua famiglia. A seguito di un incidente sul campo di battaglia viene ricoverato nell’ospedale a cui la sua squadra è affiliata, dove le tante infermiere che lo ricoprono di attenzioni e gli fanno gli occhi dolci.
Ma l’unica da cui vuole davvero riceverle è Mia, che per quanto lo trovi attraente è restia a lasciarsi ammaliare dal soldato. Il maggiore ha combattuto battaglie molto più dure e non si lascia scoraggiare, con la tenacia tipica dei soldati riesce ad abbattere i muri dell’infermiera dal cuore spezzato. E quando i demoni del passato di entrambi bussano alla porta del presente mettendo a dura prova il legame che si era creato, li affrontano subendo ferite ma uscendone più forti insieme.
La storia è ben scritta, seppur i capitoli sono notevolmente lunghi si fanno leggere, i personaggi sono ben strutturati, ho apprezzato l’inserimento di scene flashback che non sono risultate pesanti e il pov di Manuel che da una prospettiva più completa dell’intera storia.

I cannot scream loud enough about how much I love the characters in this world! After finishing the Broken Trilogy I just wasn’t ready to let them go and this book reminded me exactly why. The found family trope in these books is EVERYTHING! I felt like I was coming home while reading it.
And let’s not even get started about Major Mark Lopez, because damn this man owns my entire heart. He has everything: he’s so sweet, funny, a gentleman, protective, and willing to do anything for the people he loves. He was already my favorite side character in the Broken Trilogy, but now? I love him even more. I cried so much for him and his past. His emotional depth touched my heart. 🥺
While I didn’t find the plot quite as strong or intense as the previous books, I still enjoyed it! J.L. Drake has completely stolen my heart as an author and after finishing this fourth book I can honestly say she became one of my favorites.
I rated this book 4,5⭐️ and I’m already looking forward to the next book. 😍
