Hidden Saga #2

Hidden Heart

Rate this book
ive in to the Glamour as the saga continues...

17-year-old Ryann Carroll thought she knew who she was… a small-town Southern girl just trying to survive her parents’ messy divorce and find some peace for herself. She thought she knew what she wanted… a summer job, a car, a first date that didn’t suck, and NO complications from a serious relationship—any guy in her life would simply be icing on the cake.

But now… she’s not only in love, her boyfriend Lad is a member of a secret race that’s lived secretly among humans for thousands of years, mentioned only in flawed and fading folklore. Things could hardly get more complicated than that.

More importantly, she’s learned the world’s top celebrities… those actors, musicians, athletes, and politicians who seem a little too beautiful and talented to be true… actually are. They’re not human, and they’re using their glamour and the increasing popularity of fan pods to control more and more humans. But why?

With her best friend Emmy leaving soon to join the fan pod of a famous actor, Ryann has to find out the answer. And she can’t do it alone. But after a shocking murder, Lad can no longer fight his destiny or his duty, and Ryann’s not sure whether his top priority is their relationship or his people.

In this second book of the Hidden Saga, true friendship will take Ryann from rural Mississippi to the glittering city of Los Angeles. And true love will take her to places she never expected to go…

I love writing, and I love LOVE. I've been writing seriously since 2010 and have written 35 books (and counting!) Most of them are YA and NA romantic fantasy. There's a dash of paranormal and dystopian romance in my book list as well.

I'm honored to be an Amazon bestseller and multi-award winning author of the bestselling Hidden Saga, which is a 10-book Fae fantasy romance series, the heart-pounding Crimson Accord vampire romance series.

My new Romantasy series, Age of Fae, begins with A Court Bright and Broken, which released on Valentine's Day 2025. Book 2, A Kingdom Ruthless and Radiant comes out May 23rd 2025!

I live in Rhode Island where I write in my car at the beach year round and sometimes crave the heat and humidity of Mississippi, where I grew up. I love hearing from my readers! Reach out and say hi anytime.

Fantastic

Just as good as book 1. Kept you on your toes all the way through. The love triangle thickens at first you want to hate lad and then at the last minute you change your mind about him. Talk about emotional overload!!! Poor Ryann!!!

Review

I was very excited about this novel! After the EPIC first novel 'Hidden Deep' I couldn't WAIT to launch into this sequel. I was eager to return to the world or Altum and its "elven" inhabitants as well as follow Ryann and Lad as their romance blossomed. Full of emotion, it really captured my reader's heart. I felt deeply connected to all the characters and loved how much the author pulled on my sympathy strings, even though they would in turn pull on my heart strings.
The novel started off by giving us a peak a month later following the EPIC cliff-hanger at the end of the last novel and then returned to a month earlier, picking up at the same time as 'Hidden Deep' ended. I was deeply upset for our newly reunited couple as they FINALLY had the chance to be together and were now ripped apart by the tumultuous events once again.
I loved, Loved, LOVED the diversity of characters. Each was very unique with distinct characteristics and personalities. I admired some characters’ attitudes because it made them so TANGIBLE that even the villains seemed to be not completely evil but people the reader and other characters just misunderstood. The three main characters in this novel – Ryann, Lad and Nox – all held a special place in my heart. Ryann was such a persistent and determined character (with a BIG attitude towards certain people – ahem, Nox) that I couldn't stop myself from becoming quickly attached to her. Lad was just a complete sweetie even though I DID want to bash his brains out for being completely and unimaginable senseless in some situations. He was a complete gentleman though I suspect that that may have to do with the fact that bonding in "elves" includes a very intimate connection. Nox was...a bad boy with a traumatic and very sympathetic past. I felt so horrible for him when the author continued to explore him in 'Hidden Heart'!
'Hidden Heart's plot progression was just EXCELLENT! It was masterfully woven, and with the beautiful characters which Amy Patrick had created and, there weren't any loose ends left untied. It had a very solid story arc that connected well with the first novel and left room for a continuation of the series. There were also small sub-plots in the novel that really enhanced the story.
Written in first person past tense, I greatly enjoyed the way the author structured the novel so much like the first in the series. The sort of prologue starts off in the present and then flashbacks to the past for the majority of the novel. The story then rounds itself off by returning to the present. I thought this was a clever way to grip the reader from the beginning. I also really admired the skill, maturity and talent of the author in her writing style. She was able to grab me from the very beginning in 'Hidden Deep' and then masterfully compelled me to continue to 'Hidden Heart' through beautiful imagery and emotional language that left my heart almost torn in two at the end. Even though this is a mostly unknown series it DEFINITELY deserves a go!
Tension, drama and anticipation were in SPADES and BUCKETFULS in this beauty! I mean how much more could it take? The author really knew how to add a sprinkle here and then a splash there to make the story a FIVE star!
The grammar was excellent and the prose just flowed so well, I was utterly enchanted! I spotted no spelling mistakes or typing and formatting issues which made 'Hidden Heart' so much more pleasant to read.
MAJOR, HUMUNGOUS CLIFFHANGER ALERT! Seriously! This author does not give her readers a rest does she? But I must also admit that I was TOTALLY loving it! Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing such a spell-binding sequel!

Rating Plan

The second installment of the Hidden sage just continues to get better and intense. I was on the edge of my seat!
This book picks up right where book 1 ended. I absolutely love this world and I can’t get enough of it. Ryann takes off to Cali to try to save her friend from the dark Fae. Along the way Ryann gets close to someone else. Will it last? We discover secrets about Ryann’s moms past and it is explosive!!!
Must read!! This world is like no other and it’s a great read!!

So, I just love this trilogy thus far! It's all new to me from sways to all the mind tricks! This book takes place in la and the famous scenes/ celebrities. Fan pods . And this book is a lot more spicy but still leaves a lot to your imagination. The only bad thing I can say is cliffhangers, she gets me every time and I can't wait for the next book!!

well, honeys. *slaps hands together* this was a freaking rollercoaster.

I got the same emotions as when I did originally reading ACOTAR. I was like YES TAMLIN in book one and then NO THANK U, MOVE OVER HUNNY in book two. This was the same for this book. I was screaming to the universe about Lad in book one but Nox in book two literally swept me off my feet and buried my alive. I was obsessed. We love the dark side angels. I just need to admit the light side isn’t for me.

so...
- the writing was A LOT better in this book. I mean the improvements could be seen from miles away. no overly flowery language or weird words.
- the plotting and pacing was hell of a lot better. I read this in a flash too and was addicted from start to finish. I didn’t really enjoy the sub plot about emmy, but it worked enough to mean nox was in the majority of this book.
- the ending. nah sorry where is book three?? oh that’s right, I already got my hands on it.

Truly, it is never wise to start a book at 10pm. I just wanted a peek at first….then I needed to read through the first chapter…..a few hours later, at about 4:30am, I was done with the book and wanted to do a reread immediately. Needless to say, I loved this second installment of the Hidden series by Amy Patrick.

There is no such thing as a perfect book. I’m sure there is always a flaw to be mentioned somewhere somehow. I was cool about this book in the first couple of chapters, but after that, I just zoomed through to the last with lots of questions in my head, primarily about which boy I like more for Ryann.

I know, you’re probably thinking “what? Another love triangle?”. But let’s be honest. What would a love story be without tough (and beautiful……even otherwordly) competition? Or in this case, a four angle love problem. Ahhhhh…. Intrigued yet?

The things that I didn’t like in the first book….all the unnecessary subplots…. Have thankfully been largely ignored in this one. Hidden Heart focuses more on the building of trust and connection between Ryann and Nox, the destruction of Ryann’s relationship with Lad and Ryann’s discovery of who she really is and where she belongs. The repetitions I mentioned in my review of the Hidden Deep? Gone too. This is a much smoother and better written book than the first for sure.

I must say, I did not see it coming. I did not see myself loving Nox. In much of the first book, he was an annoyance and a distraction. He was too much too everything. Here, is tempered down to his barest which is lovely. From his personal story to his adoration and love for Ryann, he is someone to root for. Normally in trilogies, by the first book I’d already have a clear choice of whom I want the female lead to end up with. But here, because of his open heart and big personality, the scales have tipped.

I know I rooted for Lad in the first book, but that’s only because for most of it, Nox was shown as someone…. well…. obNOXious….who wants to steal Ryann away to hurt Lad. But in Hidden Heart, he becomes so much more than that and I find myself rooting for him now. I want him to win Ryann’s heart and I want them to bond because he clearly deserves her. Not to say that Lad has become a bad elf. He has such an internal struggle to deal with because of the role he now has to play which is the King of his people. But he should have dealt with Ryann more gracefully, with more sympathy, much more.

Nox makes his intentions clear here with no questions, no doubts. I like him the most. And My wish is that the third book be unpredictable in Ryann’s choice of mate and she end up with Nox. I know…it seems next to impossible since trilogies tend to end with the two main protagonists running off into the sunset together. But then Nox has been made to be too wonderful to be discarded just like that. He deserves a good ending. (Go Nox Go!!!)… and you never know, maybe this will be one trilogy to break all Love rules…..either that or maybe have two versions of THE END?

Another thing that came out of nowhere is Ryann’s paternity issue and Nox’s long lost “friend”. Those are particular twists that should change the entire outcome of the story.

And The elves….still Orlando Bloom stunning….. or even better from what I see in my head, both Lad and Nox are just over the top angelic in their beauty. So fun to imagine I must say….no pointy ears and freaky feet. Fret not. They are perfection. (Hello LOTR fans!)

So if the ungodly hours during which I read Hidden Heart and my obvious desire to read it again is not enough to tell you that I enjoyed this book then let me say it straight. I loved Hidden Heart. Again, as most books, it is not perfect. There are flaws but not enough to be distracting from the main point of the story. If you are a romantic at heart and have the need to read a story that will squeeze your heart just a little bit more, pick this up. I can’t wait for the last book of the series: Hidden Hope.

So... I am not too sure where to start with this review. I am a huge believer of reviewing a book without giving away spoilers and there is just sooo much about this book that is just... wow! If you haven't read the first book yet you need to start there. You can read my review of Hidden Deep here and then you can run on over to Amazon and pick it up for free. I was recommended Hidden Deep by my best friend (who I've been close to since I was 11) and I have been hooked since day one. Hidden Heart was a one day read for me.

While reading this book, I found myself falling in love all over again, just not with the character I thought I would. You learn so much more about Nox here in Hidden Heart than you did in Hidden Deep. His character unfolds and develops strongly in this novel and I found myself actually liking him this time around, where as in book one I really could not have cared less. The other characters develop more too, just not as much as he does. I found myself changing teams, so to say. I love the change in scenery, the L.A. story line was amazing and it allowed us to see a side of Ryann that we probably would not have seen otherwise.

Fan pods are out of control, otherworldly creatures are gaining the upper hand, and Ryann’s world has flipped 360 degrees.

Ryann’s heart is confused- she’s in over her head and can’t decide between the two men in her life.

Lad has been hot and cold- his new position within his community has started to shape his life- and Ryann isn’t feeling it.

But when Ryann desperately needs his help he is there without a second thought.

Nox is laying it all on the line- life be damned… He knows what he wants- and a little singing may help.

Can Nox sing his way into Ryann’s heart or will his tunes fall on deaf ears?

A page turner for sure- these men are liable to make you purr.

Warning: Not a stand-alone book, book 1 Hidden Deep must be read to understand the complexity of Ryann’s emotions.

Sexuality:
hot and steamy- kissing and touching.

Recommended:
Paranormal Romance lovers.

Will I be reading more:
Most Definitely!

Hidden Heart was just as good as Hidden Deep. I love that it is set in a completely different place and that we meet many new characters. Just makes me anxious for book three. These books are wonderful books for young adults and my daughter has read Hidden Deep, so I know she will love this book. A must read for anyone who loves YA Fantasy!

Enjoyed it until the whole adult elf men are seducing and having sex with underage fans(don't tell me they don't because Emmy hinted that Reggie made her do things) but basically brainwashing them part.....also Harems are gross. Ryann is 17, there is no way she is that ignorant to how bad the world is like taking a drink from a stranger part.
Lad is just a jerk. He should explain everything to Ryann instead of just breaking up with her and then getting back with his ex-fiance.

The 2nd book of the Hidden Saga dove us into Nox’s story. In the first book, Lad paints us a picture of who Nox is and Ryan trust him so assumes that is true of his character until she finds out that he is Elven and gets to know the real side of him. My own perception changed as well from the first book and now it feels like she is destined to be with Nox! We shall see what happens because Lad is still pining for her even though he is betrothed to another.

Quite a READ! Very enjoyable but very confusing after reading the last two chapters. Everything went by fast and a lot was left "unknown".

I still don't get why Lad is still hung up on Ryann after being so pushy about 'stop seeing me again.' And how Nox and Ryann hit it off then all of a sudden Lad back with Vancia.

MY REVIEW

Ryann thinks everything is going well. She finally has a chance to be with Lad. But that all comes crashing down after the death of his father. Ryann is suspected and Lad orders her away, she doesn't see him for days but she manages to keep her cool and keeps telling herself that he will come back. In the meantime, her friend has joined a fan pod of an elven superstar. She's wiped of her senses and becomes a squealing fangirl, worshiping her elven idol. Determined to save her friend, Ryann asks Lad for help but he denies her and breaks off their relationship. Heartbroken, she turns to the only one she can. Nox, Lad's brother and a dark elf that follows Ryann around intent on flirting with her. Together they leave for LA into the world of stardom to save Emmy. But can Ryann fight her feelings for Nox?

I loved the first book in the series. And yes i loved Lad and yes i loved Nox even more. But this book? This book has made me fall head over heels in love with Nox! I'm team Nox all the way!!! I did think Lad was best for Ryann despite that i preferred Nox. But now that the author has given me a taste of what it would be like if Ryann and Nox ended up together, i jumped ships! They have this cute banter and this SIZZLING chemistry! There is no other way to describe it. Despite his playfulness, Nox is super attentive and protective of Ryann. And on top of that he's a rising star! How could you go wrong with that???

I have read 'the sway' which is the story of Vancia. She's Lad's fiancee. I'm feeling a kind of love rectangle thing going on in book 3 But i know that i will always be voting for Nox and Ryann. I have no idea which way the author will play this out. I get that Lad is Ryann's first love but after i what i just read, i'm getting a slap of reality and first loves aren't always true loves. Maybe i'm grappling at any loose thread so Nox and Ryann can be a couple but i'm willing to lay all hope on these two!

Character growth was a major aspect of this book. After Lad left, Ryann didn't sulk for months or wallow in self pity. She got up and went to save her best friend.I admired her courage and loyalty to Emmy. It really made me like her even more because she sacrifices almost everything to save her. She didn't go and plead with Lad, she just was just like. "you let me go, I hope you know what you've lost" her whole attitude in the book made me applaud her.

Plot-wise i can say that it had a steady pace. Lots of unexpected things happened and i highly recommend this whole series. But if you are going to continue this series i think you really need to read 'the sway' because it's about Vancia and she's going to be a vital part of the end of book 2 and book 3.

On a side note, I'm loving this trend in cover and title!

Loved seeing the celebrity world added with an elf concept. Loved this book and cannot wait for the next one. Amy Patrick is definitely working her way up the YA ladder with her enticing and thrilling story! I'm so eager to see how this conclusion plays out!

What can I say, I'M OFFICIALLY ADDICTED TO THIS SERIES!

Amy Patrick has a way of making her characters really come to life! There wasn't one single character that was out of place or that I didn't like! (Yes, I loved to hate a few villains but they were wonderfully written!)

My favorite part of this book was the romance. I'm not one to like (I usually detest) love triangles, but this one is written in a way that I absolutely, head-over-heels fell for! (If you read New Moon and loved it, then this love triangle is kinda-sorta similar in terms of feelings.) Without any spoilers, the chemistry was HOT HOT HOT! I will say that this book has a New Adult feeling to it while the first book, Hidden Deep has tons of swoon-worthy romance but more of a YA feeling.

I did come across a few twists & turns that were delightfully unexpected! Of course, I bought the third book, Hidden Hope as soon as I put this one down and will be diving into it A.S.A.P.!!

If you love romance with tons of chemistry (You know, the swoon-worthy, toe melting kind!), tons of action filled with unexpected twist then this one's for you!

1st of all... Amazing! The writing of the story line, the twists & turns this author puts us through OMG! Come on Amy Patrick, You should be apologetic on the emotional roller coaster u put us through.

I am an avid reader, luv paranormal series. I actually began this series with a, Eh why not. I was await the release of the next book of a series I'm enthralled with. The 1st book was a free download, being a Kindle unlimited member, I can read this free download load as I await the release date of my nxt book. So omg I totally was not expecting to be completely pulled in, as I NOW am. As a said I'm an avid reader so it takes a lot to hook me. Couple that with a series written for Young adult.... Yeah, get what I'm saying THIS WRITER, THIS SERIES, be prepared to be taken captive by this author.

This amazing series has even spurred be to write my 1st review. Yeah folks, it's really amazing. Not only have I now purchased the whole series, including the novella, I will also be looking into this author's other writings. I hope she has room for 1 more fan. Look out Fan Club president, You now have competition for being Amy Patrick 's biggest fan.

Book number 2 kept it coming.

After receiving my intoxicating love high in Book 1 and believing that all was right with the world, Amy Patrick decided to break my heart into the tiniest pieces, as she also did with her characters.
Of course this is something that is a given in a second book of a romance series; however that did not soften the blow or deter me from reading this book.

Through my tears, I see Knox flying in like a pesky mosquito that doesn't want to leave our heroine alone! Then......................he grows on you. Amy Patrick! Why must you do this to us?

These characters are so well written and thought out that I know immediately what that character is going to do in any situation. It isn't for a lack of surprises in the book, it is the readers being able to make an actual connection with the characters.

Once again, the short chapters had me up all hours of the night saying to myself..."just one more", "the next one is only 4 minutes long, I can squeeze that in," over and over!

This book was filled with a lot of information that is building up to something bigger, so now I have to jump into the third book!

I wouldn't have believed it! The second book to the series is better than the first! And....it made me on the fence about who Ryann should end up with at the end of the series. I've got a foot in the Lad camp and a foot in the Nox camp. Usually, I have a difficult time shifting gears in a romantic triangle to a different hero...but now THEY ARE BOTH AWESOME! How hard is that choice going to be??? Great to have happiness in this ending but to still have a cliffhanger to make me anxious for the next installment. I'll have to settle for the novella of the series, The Sway, to keep me occupied until the next one comes out. HIGHLY recommend!

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.

I thought I would miss Lad in this book but actually the development of Nox I really loved seeing a more vulnerable side. The characters continued to grow and also Ryann proved to be a little naive at times too which was nice to show in such a strong character! The description and plot continues to grow and become more interesting than ever with secrets and still a lot of answers needed. Looking forward to even more!

So... YA paranormal romance is generally not my genre, at all. But these books are like crack!! I plowed through the audiobook in about three days. It's so rare to feel like I'm really IN the story for the most part, to the point where I almost forget that I'm reading, but this series definitely has that kind of magic--and the second book was even better than the first. I'm taking notes on how to write romance from Amy!!
