OMG, what a haunting yet beautiful story of timeless love. Once you start reading you can’t stop, it is emotional, moving, and will seep into your soul. The story is one of two people, Troy, and April Hammond, who love each other completely, but cruel fate will separate them. As I was reading this tale, I thought of the movie Ghost and the love that was between them. His final words to her before he dies, “I won’t leave you.”
The story is the good, the bad, the ugly of people. Two people, Troy and April, were making Hammond House their home, fixing it up from neglect over the years. Troy’s Uncle Foster had made sure that Troy will inherit after his death. The story is a murder mystery that will bring in Detective Inspector Jonathan Banks to solve the death of Troy—was it a freak accident where he feels down the steps or was it murder.
April is beside herself with grief, she can’t eat, sleep, or even function for the first two weeks. Once DI Banks becomes involved in the case, a man who takes solving this case seriously, she comes out of her stupor, and it is as if Troy is speaking to her from the grave. She can feel his presence, and he even leads her to clues.
“Thank you for my flower,” she murmured, rolling on her side and staring at the bright yellow flower. “I knew you were here, Troy. I could feel you, and now I have my proof.”
The Hammond House dates back to the 1700s, and even with some upgrades and additions, it is full of surprises. Hidden passages, secrets rooms, and stories that include mystery and suspense, hiding valuables during World War Two in case of German occupation. It includes the history behind, Foster Hammond, a man who had a reputation for being a womanizer, and who didn’t care for many of his family members except Troy.
The story is full of lots of secrets, scandal, hate, greed, revenge, and selfishness that make up the characters in this tale. There are more than one love story involved, and plenty of mysteries. Can a ghost protect the one they love even from the grave? Is Hammond House so embedded in mystery and suspense that April will want to leave?
Discovering that foul play was involved in the death of Troy will lead DI Banks and widow, April, solving the case, with the help from the grave. The comradery between Jonathan and April is strong, but he doesn’t overstep with her, he understands what it is like to lose a spouse to a senseless crime.
Tethered by Carlyle Labuschagne is a twisted suspense thriller with a hint of paranormal mixed in. Willow Viviers is a sick young woman. She desperately needs a heart transplant, and she gets exactly what she needs. But her and her sister get more than the bargained for. Her sister, Raine, did some shading dealings to acquire the heart that now resides in her sister's chest. Her sister is having hallucinations, but it's more than that. She's seeing things that have happened, and she's being shown what could happen again. Someone is stalking Raine, and he won't stop until he has what he is after. Aaron is cop looking to break up a sex-trafficking ring, but when his partner goes missing, the pieces begin to come together to show them all that they are in deeper into something none of them could have imagined. Tethered is truly an intense read. Trust me when I say, once you start reading this book you won't be able to put it down. It's totally crazy and gripping. Each page turn takes you deeper and deeper and you scramble to put it all together from the meaning of the twisted drawings to figure out who is the head of the snake. This story has some editorial issues scattered without, but only one is truly eye-catching. In a scene with Willow and Raine in the hospital, the author mixes the two women up. In two sentences the author calls Raine Willow. Examples "Her eyes moved to the basin behind Willow." Willow was telling Raine to stop the dripping water, so that puts Raine next to the basin, not Willow because Willow was in the bed before she got up. Then Willow heads back to the bed, but the author doesn't correct. "Willow look at the tap and saw a drop of water hit the sink." This can't be true because Willow had already turned and walked away. This story is truly gripping and hard to put down. You'll be page turning all the way to the end. Do not miss out on this story! Rating it 5 out of 5 stars!
Wow such a great book. One of my favorite ones in the box set. It has a great story line very strong characters and well written. I loved how it follows 2 sisters. And that due to surgery one sister can see what the killer feels and does. This book is a page turner. So action packed I read it in one evening. This is one of my favorite books by this author. I loved it and a definate must read.
I've read Vampire Magic By Rosemary A Johns. It's a well detailed writing of the beginnings of her Rebel Angels series. Grey, Honey, Leo, Renegade and Silver are a mismatched group who have found family in each other. I loved this story and recommend it and the series. Planning to read the rest of the Shadow Files as well.
This book had me gripped from the very 1st page. What lengths would u go to for some one you loved raine was lost she had all ready lost her parents and wasn't prepared to lose her sister willow to. So she did what any sister would do bought a doner heart from the black market. I love how these book tells two stories which cross over together I loved Liam and aaron two brothers who are lost over there dad murdering a serial killer who killed and eat people's hearts. This book is thrilling I found that I couldn't put it down and if I did it wouldn't be for very long I had to see how it ends. I loved it great read

>>> Reviewing “HEX MARKS THE SPOT” by Ani Gonzalez <<< Staring at the dilapidated Victorian structure, with its peeling pink paint and broken windows, was downright depressing. The gargoyle glaring down from the second floor ledge was a nice touch. Not even the bright daffodils made it feel welcoming. Claire Delacourt’s black Chihuahua hellhound, Pookie, suggested she just ignore what it would cost to fix this place up and just concentrate on saving the world. As a badass-death witch-necromancer, she would be just fine here, right? Even though this house had a long history of being dangerous to her family going back a hundred years or so. As Elizabeth Hunt, her real estate agent, took her on a tour inside, she mentally tallied up the cost of repairing all the damage! She was able to see things that a non-magical person could not, such as the glowing runes carved on the counter and the pentagram carved into the wood floor. Power was rising and electricity was crackling. Then Elizabeth’s cell phone rang and she had to leave.
Claire and Pookie felt the danger and started to gather a few things to make weapons. She felt the tendrils of darkness, but since “this thing” wasn’t dead, she had no idea how to fight it with her necromancer skills. Pookie tried, but it was not a demon and he got swallowed up in the dark tendrils. Then her garden gnome came to life with her ancestors’ magic, but it also got swallowed up. Suddenly the gnome crawled out of the darkness and into the undergrowth. Next Pookie came out and yelled, “Run!”
Locking themselves in the dining room gave momentary protection. There was still nothing to defend with, and the black tentacles pushed at the door and windows. When it broke in and surrounded them, Claire fought wildly with her magic and Pookie shot a bright blue electric charge into the monster. With screeches, it suddenly disappeared! They had defeated an elder god, an “Old One”, which was quite an accomplishment. A glittering Kanata, a Japanese sword, was lying next to her and that had been what brought them victory. It appeared she had summoned a ghost as well and he was standing in the doorway!
This story never stops its action! One crazy event after another happens, and Claire and Pookie just take it all in stride and hope for the best! It’s snarky and funny, and the reader won’t want to stop reading this action-packed tale! And the best part is that you have 21 additional awesome stories to read when you finish this one!
>>> Reviewing “CASSIDY’S TOUCH” by Paris Brandon <<< Cassidy Spencer had the ability to “read” people through any object they had touched. Her reality show was based on this talent. The last guest on Cassidy’s final show – until her contract was renewed for the next season -- did not reveal his identity or any details about the object he wanted her to “read”. He gave her a diamond ring to touch and she saw a tall, thin man with a tattoo and bad teeth obtain the ring by cutting off the woman’s finger while she was alive and screaming! Then he stabbed her to death! Her guest turned out to be the lawyer representing the woman’s husband. The husband had been a suspect – but he was muscular, shorter, and in good health, obviously not fitting the description Cassidy gave. She could identify the real murderer. But getting visions of such intense violence put her in severe pain and the director cut away to a commercial while she recovered enough to run into her dressing room with a bloody nose.
Cassidy changed and started to leave when the director told her the producer wanted to see her. Fortunately, she had a clause in her contract to protect her and told him her contract with them was up and they had to go through her agent with any questions. She then made the 10-hour drive to the old Victorian in Kansas City that her Aunt Maude had left to her when she died. No one knew she owned it, and she would find peace and quiet there.
Cassidy took a tepid shower – the house wasn’t air conditioned and she needed to cool down. But as she exited the shower stall, she thought she saw a shadow in the corner that disappeared quickly. She figured the lights must have flickered. Back in her warm room, she felt a cold chill on her skin, and again a shadow flickered across her vision. Then a voice rasped, “Are you Cassidy? Maude said you could help me.”
Cassidy’s ghostly visitor talked with her about the little he knew of his situation. She was going to have to use her psychometric ability to find the handsome bootlegger’s body before the witch who cursed him does – or he would be enslaved to a demon forever. Chance Coraggio had no memory of what happened to him, nor did he realize he had been asleep for almost 100 years! He couldn’t really help very much. But both of them are now bound by the curse and must solve the mystery of who is coming for them and for what reason!
This is a really good story, very descriptive and putting the reader right in the middle of it all. The story line catches attention and moves at a fast pace that keeps the reader intrigued. The tension and mystery are wonderfully handled by the author, and make this is a perfect story for this box set!

REVIEW: A WITCH’S REVENGE is the first instalment in Carly Fall’s contemporary, adult Henrietta and Alex: OPERATION UNDERWORLD paranormal trilogy. A part of the multi-authored THE SHADOW FILES Limited Edition Collection of Supernatural Suspense stories, A Witch’s Revenge introduces the spirited and interesting characters we will come to know and love.
Told from third person perspective (Henrietta) A WITCH’S REVENGE follows our heroine, Henrietta Thomas, a witch of unknown powers, in the aftermath of her mother Esmerelda’s murder. Secreted and secluded at Gladstone Cabin, a paranormal hideaway for the adolescent supernaturals, twenty-five year old Henrietta Thomas aka Henry must leave the safety of her home to search for the evil she believes is responsible for her mother’s death. An invitation to join Operation Underworld, an organization that polices the supernatural finds our heroine venturing into the unknown to take down a powerful warlock she believes killed the mother she loves. What ensues is the slow building release of Henrietta’s powers, powers that prove both evil and good.
Henrietta Thomas is a bit of a loner; an impulsive, tenacious and strong-willed witch who is steadfast in her belief about the who and why of her mother’ death, but a woman who is unaware of her powerful lineage, a lineage hidden all of her life.
We are introduced to Ms. Gladstone, a powerful witch and the proprietor of Gladstone Cabin; warlocks Alex, and Niram Turek; Operation Underworld’s computer hacker Harper; Helter, Skelter and Sherlock the cats; as well as a number of young witches and warlocks just coming into their powers.
A WITCH’S REVENGE reads a little bit like X-Men and Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters as Ms. Gladstone teaches the young supernaturals how to control their gifts and their powers, all the while protecting the children from those who do not understand. A WITCH’S REVENGE focuses on one woman’s dogged determination to avenge the murder of her beloved mother but a woman who discovers not all is at is seems, or she was led to believe. Carly Fall invites the reader into an enchanting and suspenseful tale of witches, warlocks, power and magic.
This review only refers to Gift of Shadows (Barrier Witch Trilogy Book 1) by Amir Lane, which is now available for purchase.
This book was a special treat. Super special treat. I don't think I have enough words to describe how much I loved it. Apart from being brilliantly written, as I've come to expect from this author a while ago, it is full of amazing realistic well developed characters featuring in a great complex multilayered plot. As I mentioned above, this author is truly one of my favourite authors in the world. The story starts about a year after we meet Fairuz and Rowan the first time, so at this point, they have been partners for about a year. We also get to meet their colleagues Kieron and Indira, as well as their department leader Sabine. The author does an amazing job developing the characters, making them real and situating them in their world. The relationships among the characters, work related or private, they are all realistic and contribute greatly to the understanding of each of the characters, their personalities and their motivations. Fairuz takes the lead, as she deserves because she is sooooooooooooooo amazing. I am totally in love with her. She is a first class investigator and one of those who cannot let go of injustice. So she keeps going even when things become incredibly complicated, privately and professionally, regardless of the dangers she may encounter. And damn right she gets to the bottom of things! The world the author introduced in the prequel, expands and develops further, but the plot, which is based on a case Fairuz is pursuing, is even better than the previous one. As I mentioned above, the plot is complex and multilayered, there is so much unknown, there are side cases, there are unforeseen connections, betrayal, love, friendship, unexpected twists, so much happens in this story. And then there is this incredible diversity that the author presents in every single one of their stories and novels. There are no limits imposed by the mainstream expectations. The author's characters cover everything, and sometimes those diversities are so ingeniously incorporated into the plot, that they add so much more to the story. I loved and enjoyed this story immensely and I can't wait for the next one. I am also very sad because this was the last story I had left from this author and I have nothing more to read until the next one. I have read every single thing from this author that I could get my hands on, and all I can say is that this author is a special gift to readers. The series reading order is: Gift of Curses (Barrier Witch Trilogy Prequel), Gift of Shadows (Barrier Witch Trilogy Book 1), and Gift of Ashes (Barrier Witch Trilogy Book 1.5), Gift of Secrets (Barrier Witch Trilogy Book 2), and Gift of Darkness (Barrier Witch Trilogy Book 3), have been announced.
The Shadow Files is a collection of 21 supernatural stories brimming with mystery, suspense, magic, treachery, action, adventure, drama, danger, the paranormal, thrills, intrigue, tension, secrets, and more. The Collection Contains: -The Undead Detective By: Jennifer Hilt -Oath Bound By: Amanda Booloodian -Devil May Dare By: Tracy Goodwin -InstiGATOR By: Fiona Quinn -Vampire Bodyguard (Ravenscroft) By: Katalina Leon -Dark Soul By: Kim Petersen -When the Shadows Come By: Alyssa Breck -A Witch’s Revenge By: Carly Fall -Vampire Magic (A Rebel Angel’s Novel) By: Rosemary A John -Serenity Blake Paranormal Relic Hunter By: Natalie G Owens -The Curse By: Kristin Ping -A Different Kind of War By: Mary Abshire -Slide By: Jessica West -Cassidy’s Touch By: Paris Brandon -Unhinged By: Deena Remiel -Tethered By: Carlyle Labuschagne -Asura Night By: Fionn Jameson -Loved From The Grave By: Maggie Carpenter -Foresee By: Tricia Barr -Hex Marks the Spot By: Ani Gonzalez -Gift of Shadows By: Amir Lane I enjoyed this collection- and the real bonus was 21 books for the price of one. #winning
I've read A Different Kind of War by Mary Abshire. If you're familiar with the world of Warren Antiques, then you know the mysterious Tristan is a prominent character. This one tells how it all started and shows the friendship and dedication between Tristan and Theodore. Considering Tristan is one my favorite characters, I've been waiting on this one since I read the first Warren Antiques book. That said, this one does work perfectly as a standalone and is its own tale. The story takes place during WWII and is full of ghosts, a magic sword, spells, and all the mayhem that goes along with magic in the wrong hands. As a fan of the series, this is a great addition and one I've been waiting for.
This set is packed full of stories covering a wide variety in the paranormal genre. The books included vary in length, from short stories to novellas to full length and there's a great mix of favorite authors and new ones to discover. Whatever the preference or time constraint, it's sure to be in this set.
72 Hours Of Endless Entertainment. Unbelievable Bargain!!!
This boxed set contains Amazing stories that will please fans of every genre. If you’re into mystery, intrigue, romance or paranormal then this set is a must buy. My favorite book of the set was Loved From The Grave as from personal experience, I could relate to so many things that happened to April after her husband Troy died. That, combined with the mystery of “who-done-it” clues to solve as you go along make for an awesome read. Was Troy’s death an accident? Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It’s a very well written, fast read. Another favorite was Foresee, by Tricia Barr. Have you ever asked yourself, “do I love this person enough to give my life for them?” Foresee is a very entertaining story which takes place in New Orleans and is about witchcraft, seers, healers and about self sacrifice. I loved this book too. All the books in this boxed set are fantastic. You can’t go wrong with this purchase!!!
Want a book that is hard to put down? Then Instigator is just one of the books in this collection you’ll want to read! I love Fiona Quinn's books! You won't be disappointed!
I have to say that any book by Fiona Quinn is always entertaining, mysterious and fun to read! And Instigator is one of just such books! If you need a new author to read then this is the author that I will always recommend! I normally read paranormal romance but I got hooked on Fiona Quinn's Lynx series and when she has a new book out I will stop what I'm reading to start her new book! Give this book a try I promise you won't be disappointed! I can't wait to see what she writes next!
In the game of spying there is only one thing you can do…expect that something will go wrong. Only Christian won’t be doing it alone! Enter Gator the Iniquus Operative assigned to protect her! When the mission goes sideways both Gator and Christian have to find a way to make it through alive! Will they survive? You’ll have to read it to find out!
Another intriguing strand of the Banshee Creek weirdness! We met Claire during the Christmas Bake off shenanigans. Now she is settling back into town full time, having had the old family manor dumped on her. It's infested with all sorts of icky weirdness and anytime she sets foot in it, it basically tries to kill her! Oh and did I say there are gnomes. lots of gnomes?
Pookie, the demon trapped in the chihuahua body, also returns with his wisecracking, badassery LOL. Then of course there is Cole. The dead, very solid like ghost who seems to be bound to the town as its new protector. But he an Claire have a past and I can't help but wonder. Is he really dead or just trapped between dimensions or something? Cos I really want him to have a HEA!!!
Claire finally embraces all her sword wielding, Xena-wannabeness and I can see her and Cole putting the town to rights. Wonderfully snarky humour and banter and I loved finding out that PROVE may not just be a bunch of cooky nutters after all!
Really fun stories; I’m working through them all, but I’ve finished ‘Hex Marks the Spot’ by Ani Gonzalez. I enjoy every installment that features Banshee Creek; what a collection of characters, even a studly ghost! Claire Delacourt has returned (been summoned?) back to her home town as the paranormal is becoming stronger and more dangerous in Banshee Creek. Clair is a necromancer: she can see and hear the dead. Oh, and her pet is a hellhound cursed into the form of a Chihuahua. Talking variety, of course. (If ‘Supernatural’ can have a Yorkie hellhound, why not?) The studly ghost is Claire’s crush from High School, who is now a warrior in the coming war against evil. The Banshee Creek stories are full of well-drawn people and situations, I highly recommend them all, and I can’t wait for the next one!
As soon as I saw the lot of good authors I knew I must buy the collection. Read Vampire Bodyguard by Katalina Leon and Hex, Marks the Spot by Ani Gonzalez, first. Liked very much, Katalina’s vampire character. The story was very interesting with a suspenseful plot development, romance, passion but nothing predictable. Ani’s Hex Marks the Spot had an intriguing mystery with a character that had been lurking in the dark in previous books. Needless to say that I enjoyed the action, the suspense and the magic. A peek around some pages of the different stories and as the saying goes “for sample a button is enough” and the collection ‘s price with so much intriguing stories, a bargain. I could not miss it.
Let's be real, I bought this box set specifically for Vampire Magic because I absolutely adore the Rebel Angels world. (I will still be reading the other books in this set though!) Like I thought I would, I loved Vampire Magic. Grey was such an interesting POV to read and very easy to relate to. The band of rebels (Leo, Grey, Honey, Renegade, Silver, and even Anarchy) is such a complex but intriguing group to journey with and seeing them become like a little rebel family was straight up kickass! The moments with Drake are always a treat because I have a soft spot for that blonde curly haired angel. And the realization of the betrayal at the end shocked me! Such a fun, fast paced book that deserves a read or three. ;)
Read an ARC of Cassidy's Touch by Paris Brandon and loved it! This is a highly original tale that incorporates familiar character archetypes like witches, ghosts and demons, and gives the reader something fresh. The theme of the story, in the words of the protagonist, is "magic demands compensation" and the high price the character pays for using magic to save a soul infuses every page. There's lots of mystery and suspense in this book, light sensuality in one scene, and the promise of a sequel if we'd like to read more about Cassidy and her abilities. I look forward to reading the rest of The Shadow Files collection.
Devil May Dare, a part of The Shadow Files Box Set was an interesting read. The daughter of the Devil has made a deal with him to save her mothers life. She’s got to hand over a specific amount of souls so that he doesn’t kill her mother, but no sooner does she send the last soul, he kills her mother. You know better to mess with the Devil, but when he goes against the deal made, you get revenge. At least that’s what Amara decides. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters are well thought out and fully fleshed. The writing is good, and the storyline intriguing enough to keep me fully involved. I wanted to know how Amara was going to achieve her goal and read it all play out.
So far I've read InstiGATOR by Fiona Quinn. It was a great read from dramatic beginning to the HEA. I like the way Quinn uses well-researched language, about the military and science. This book is connected with former books in the series but can be read as a standalone. There's just the right amount of romance for an action/adventure story. Readers will love this book! I'm sure the other books in the box set will only add to the enjoyment, and there are so many, I'm sure readers will find a bunch of books they will like.
The Undead Detective opens The Shadow Files as Jennifer Hilt brings us to a paranormal reunion and a locked room murder mystery. Her unusual take on an old theme and colorful characters is filled with the unexpected. Witches concoct in Oath Bound by Amanda Booloodian. This fantastic start to a new series is the second story in the Shadow Files collection. This author is new to me, but I have become her latest fan. Taut, suspenseful, with unexpected twists and wonderful imagery. I loved it. Twenty more tales of suspense among the paranormal world await.
This is a fantastic boxset. The story that stood out for me was Dark Soul by Kim Petersen.
I love how the whole storyline has been portrayed. The story makes sure you stay on the edge of your seat. Such a gripping, nail-biting read that will leave you wanting to turn those pages till you have devoured the entire book. It will definitely leave you wanting to one click all of this authors books. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this one for sure.
I received one story, Oath Bound, from the author/publisher, but I ended up purchasing the Shadow Files anthology, hoping for additional great reads. Oath Bound, specifically, had an excellent plot with a strong female protagonist. The story was well-paced, with plenty of action and tension. Definitely interested in reading more of the series and finding out what in in store for Mira. Other stories in the anthology collection were equally well done. A wonderful collection with something for everyone.
A walk on the dark side will have you leafing through these books, meeting characters like Lucifer, mages, vampires and angels. Check out Kim Petersen and her book, Dark Soul. If you've never sampled her wares, this is a perfect opportunity to do so. AND..... there are about twenty other extremely talented authors who also have books in this collection. A great way to find more exciting and talented authors.
Great box set. This review is for The Curse. Great read, twins who have a falling out and paranormal happenings. Emily is trying to help her twin Melanie but she is mad and holding a grudge. Full of excitement and mystery. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review
Also I read Tethered by Carlyle Labuschagne Two sisters who are helping 2 rogue FBI agents hunt down a serial killer. Full of action, and suspense. Grabbed me from the start.
ONE CLICK ONLY!!! Wow! Ok guys, CHECK it out. This page turning bombshell is reason enough to make this collection a one click. Seriously, this is an intriguing collection that keeps you on edge from the beginning until through the end. The characters are strong, well developed and relatable. Their personalities are vast and varied but come together as the tale unfolds. The twists, suspense and danger are just as thrilling and nailbiting as the reads before. Great job guys.
These stories will make you smile. These stories will curl your hair. These stories might make you shudder and it laugh, but one thing is certain : You will be entertained throughout.
My favorite was Witch's Revenge because I was thoroughly caught up in Henry's world My least favorite was Vampire Magic because I got lost in the maze of the story and never did quite figure it out. However, it rates a 5/5 and I highly recommend it
Many good books, a few not so good, could do with more editing
This anthology contained many good tales and is well worth the purchase price. There were a few books I couldn't finish because the poor editing distracted me too much from the story. One book failed to hold my interest. I do wish more attention had been given to editing the books within the collection. It's frustrating to read book after book filled with errors.
They say that loved ones who pass away still look out for us. Especially in our time of need. This riveting story by Maggie Carpenter definitely raises questions of how the departed converse with us. This story not only raised goosebumps down my spine but also made me look around for any hidden signs of communication.
What a terrific group of stories! Whatever you are in the mood for, it's in here! Well written and just the right length for an evening in. My favorite so far is Loved From the Grave by Maggie Carpenter. Beautiful, heart wrenching, and hopeful. A lovely, lovely story and worth the price of admission alone. But I've enjoyed all the stories I've read so far, and I can't wait to read them all!
