These papers explore the linguistic, philosophical and computational problems encountered when attempting to attribute meaning, whether to words or to electronic data. This volume argues that the search for a theory of human thinking and knowledge now crosses all disciplinary boundaries with system biology, biophysics and neuroscience having as much relevance as philosophy and linguistics.
