I absolutely loved this book!! It has been a long time if ever that I have read a book about vampires were the myths were used. I loved the speed, not being out in the light and how they had to work around that. Draven and Calla were so good together and I absolutely loved Athan! I can't wait for his story. This was a can't put down book with a happy for now ending !!!

Ummm, helloooo Draven.
I loved this story so much! Draven and Calla are hot, hot, hot! Not to mention of course the great writing and the plot that kept you on the edge of your seat wondering when the sh!t was going to hit the fan. I'm a huge fan of PNR and since I know this was Kimberly's first foray into the genre, I sure hope it isn't her last!

I don’t read Paranormal normally but when one half of your favourite author’s tells you she’s writing paranormal what do you do, I was a bit scared but I knew I was safe in her hands. I couldn’t think of a better lady to pop my PNR cherry than Kimberly. This book had everything, it had romance, it was a sexy, hot and addictive read.

This was the real deal, no rings to help them walk about in the daylight, and no sparkling either.

Draven is our smouldering vampire who never stays in the same place in hope of no worries me finding out about him for long that is until he meets Calla while working on the night shift at a small town hospital. Can he keep away from Calla or will he risk it all for her.

A perfectly fabulous, sexy and addicting read full of passion, grief, and heartbreaking in places. I couldn’t put it down, it was such a brilliant story and not over the top just the perfect dose of paranormal romance. I wanted Draven to ‘ Turn Me’ all through the book.

Kimberly you would never know this was your first paranormal book, it was fantastically written throughout, I loved it all and wouldn’t change a thing about it. I certainly hope this isn’t your last either!!! I Love You!!

Unfortunately this one didn't work for me, I didn't feel anything between the H/h, the story didn't hold my interest & it didn't feel like a PNR romance to me, also ending was rushed & very abrupt.

Great read!

I haven’t read much in this genre but I was very surprised how much I liked it!! I usually love all of Kimberly’s books so I had to give this a try! I loved her take on vampires and how they came to be! If I had 1 aspect to dislike it would be how fast the books seemed to go, if that makes sense? I would have liked to have read more details about the characters and scenes, even if it meant another book? But either way I really enjoyed it!! Hope you do as well!!

'Burn Falls' is a book for people who wants to vary the romance reading... If you like steamy books and vampires, Kimberly Knight's new book is a good shot. Everytime I get a book wrote by Kimberly Knight to read, I know I'll enjoy it, not even matter the plot, and with 'Burn Falls' we have excatly that!

Draven is what I call a low carb vegan vampire... He doesn't eat direct from the font and does everything to avoid be in the center of the attentions, especially because he has been for so long looking over his sholder after he fled his coven. He's a character that I'd say that to me, it seems a mix between Edward and Carlisle from Twilight, but even with that resemblance, Draven still has something more to offer... You can add a lot more of spice to that recipe, I'll tell you that!

Calla O'Bannion is a character one in a million... Some of her actitudes get in my nerves, like her passivity towards her mother's critics. Yeap, that scenes made me want to get in the book and slap that woman in the face! But hold you horses, because Calla is not that "damsel in distress"... Regarding Draven, she was always with her mind set on what she wanted.

Now all I can think about is if Athan, Dravevn's best friend, will have a book... Asking for a friend!

Love and blood

I’ll start off by saying I’m not a fan of paranormal romance, or so I thought. I kind of went back and forth with wanting and not wanting to get into a vampire book. I’m a huge fan of Kimberly Knight’s other novels so I decided to take the plunge.
Given my 5 stars, clearly I’m more than happy I read this book. It’s not just about vampires however it did change my outlook in wanting to read more stories like this one.
Draven is a vampire and through his life and his unwillingness to conform, he finds himself living in Alaska. This is where he has an unfortunate encounter with Calla. Their story is interesting and challenging to say the least, both have obvious and not so obvious hurdles to overcome. These hurdles are something neither one of them can shake but before they can give themselves over to the passion and love they’ve come to feel for one another they have to make amends with their own mortality and future.
Thank you Kimberly for yet again another great story. Where ever you lead I will follow.

If I could only use one word to describe Burn Falls it would be intense. The developing story was intense enough that the book was addictive. The resolution was extremely intense, putting me on the edge of my seat.

I have been reading vampire books for many years. A lot of the stories have vampires with the same traits, except for the sparkle in one series. Burn Falls brought uniqueness, a fresh look at the vampire. I enjoyed the characters. I came to care about most of the vampires. The evil that the author brought in the story gave me goosebumps, shivering over how horrible one character can be.

The author used just enough telling of the past (fluctuating between the past and present paragraphs) to help build an understanding. Draven was a fantastic main character. His back history only made me like him more. The characters were complicated. The story was complex and I loved every page turning situation.

I'm not a fan of PNR, but this wasn't bad. It had the feel of other vampire books in some ways, but with a twist. There is only so much you can do with vampire lore without going so far off that people wouldn't recognize it.
I enjoyed reading this, but it did take me awhile to get really into it. In usual KK fashion there were some twists that were very well written. I liked that in some ways it was kept more to the common lore than some other books.
But is it in my top books of Kimberly's? Probably not, but that doesn't mean I won't read it again.

I could not enjoy this book as I could not get into it. In short, the book had two major flaws that killed the enjoyment for me: it felt dated and there was a large discrepancy between the main vampire story and the romance element on this book.

On the surface, the romance should flow as part of the main story as this vampire H learns what are these special feelings drawing him towards this special human that does not succumb to the vampire's special gifts. - Hmmm where have I read this before? Oh yeah, twilight and a bunch of other vampire romances around. - It's not only not unique it was not successfully established. The whole idea that the H could not stay away no matter how unwise it is cuz he can't charm her with his special powers to disregard his vampire strangeness, being cold as a dead body and who knows what and this is explained away by him needing to stay near her in case the vampire who killed her father she saw shows up again to finish off the one and only witness. This being after possibly weeks have passed since the death of her father and he spends like sparse moments with her. Hardly a 24hour watch she would need if the thing about protecting her was true. As it is this poorly used plot point to keep the MCs together felt just as a ploy and did not show the authors thought-out the romance aspect of the things...

Also, the two worlds portrayed here did not really show as part of the same universe the author is painting. On the one side we have the girl with her 28-year-old girl troubles, mom that is on her case about her weight, job that is unsatisfying, having a long dry spell cuz she is all insecure about her size, feeling like her life is ruined cuz she misses a day of partying or having to spend new years eve at Burn Falls Alaska, where the sun is always down and no one parties while her BFF gets to party it out for new years. And on the other side, we have the tragic background life of the H, having his girlfriend killed and then himself finishing the job by drinking her dry in his frenzy as the newly turned vamp; being on a constant run from his vile boss that made him do horrendous things including killing off his family so that they don't have to die slow and painful deaths at his maker's hands. These two worlds did not intermingle well and the author kind of did not manage the transition where it was believable once these two MCs met that there is this big romantic thing happening that despite them both coming from wildly different worlds they are just drawn to each other. Despite the author spending many pages revisiting the tragic past of the H and h processing the death of her father it just did not feel real and impactful all the horrible things that happened to them cuz they just moved past them right away.

The h especially, who herself proclaims herself as a daddy's girl just moves on with very little mourning just as soon as she gets so invested with the H and all things supernatural that involve it. I mean they have sex once, go on a date once, know each other for a couple of weeks and she is very easily wrapping her life around him. It's so unreal. And the H just mentions in passing that he had to kill his whole family aside from an "it was horrible and I hate my boss for making me do it" he never processes it any kind of realistic expected way. It all came off so paint by numbers and not properly deeply invested in at all.

The dated aspect of this story is just all the themes that have already been used up and also very little effort in bringing anything new into the things. Aside from the h being whiskey heiress the whole thing is just an adult virion of Twilight. We have the special h that is not susceptible to the H's vamp powers, they are drawn to one another and the whole looming danger of a powerful vamp that is the H's maker coming for them, ya know eventually. It’s a lot of foreshadowing on that point but the danger never quite lives up to the hype. I mean the h has this whole thing about being plus-sized and the H just brushes it aside when she asks him "why me" by saying he wants a partner in bed that’s not gonna break at some rough play. The chap likes a sturdy gal, so romantic. Also heard it a million times in other overplayed and cliched romances. I mean there was a little hope for it when the author put a little background into the h's weight gain by saying that she was always skinny and an athlete at one point and after transitioning to an office position her weight gain is a bit of an adjustment and all of that potential is just swept aside with the H galavanting in her life and putting all her doubts and insecurities aside with his "I like my girls meaty".

One could relate to the h's insecurities about her weight gain, it has very little to do with body positivity. It's more like she was always skinny and now she has this new body that doesn't quite feel like hers and it's an adjustment she either has to come to terms with or figure out a way to get back to her old self. We've all been through something similar at one point or another and it's not the kind of doubt that gets resolved with just having a hunky vampire that can carry you in his muscly arms.

In the end, the whole dated element of the story, the unconvincing romance, and the not believable characters lend the whole book a very stale element. I did not mind them reusing these old-time vampire elements but in this case, one needs to build on them and give us a bigger universe than two vamps on the run from their former maker and running into their love interests and whatever follows there. I mean the H's BFF vamp also gets involved with h's BFF, so high school. We don't really get much of an insight into the supernatural world aside from the idea that the H's boss is the puppet-master behind Capone and he is the one who actually ran Chicago. See this was an interesting element that could have been explored and investigated but it's just discarded as another scary thing to have to fear of the evil bugger.

I mean the biggest things we learn about the vamp world is that the author cherry-picks which things to keep and discard from the vampire world like they will burn out in the sunlight, they can compel people, they need to drink blood or the thirst will take over and overcome their brain and they need to be invited to enter a domain. But for some reason mirrors work for them and garlic and religious institutions are no big deal. We get some weird background tale on how vampires were made related to greek mythology and nothing from there… how they existed and survived since ancient Greek times. It's just so bla bla bla and then they loved each other forever, till a dangerous guy showed up and H had to be a brave hero and save the h. The end…

It did not work for me. It was just a lot of uncooked chicken and it's certainly nowhere near as good as Night Huntress - Jeaniene Frost. I mean even Twilight had some background development in comparison to this. And the looming danger and promise of more to come only to develop in the author slowly trickling small bits on info that are just pathetic to the bigger promise hold no allure to a reader of discerning taste. So nope, no more from this series.

I breezed through this story and liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
It is a bit predictable and follows the standard template for Hot Vampire Guy meets Human Woman with Insecurities™ - yeah, it is a thing.

But when it works it can be fun and I was pretty quickly charmed by everyone involved in the story. The author's choice of vampire traits and behaviour appealed to me and I felt very much at home in her version of vampirism.
(Yes, as a vampire nerd, I do have a vampire preference.)

The romance was sweet - and hot.
I did grow tired of Calla's issues with her body image though. You never really get a good idea of what she actually looks like. She thinks she's fat - due to her mum frequently telling her so + treating her like an ass. But of course Draven, the hot vampire stud, only sees cuuuurves~.

And that's fine, of course, but as a woman myself I must say it's rather tedious to have Calla's weight being in so much focus. It's such a stereotypical female issue to worry about and it just feels so worn out. (Read: I'm getting old. I've read too much.)

Especially when it's basically implied, that, no, she's not actually fat. She's hot.
(Because of course she is. Duuuuuh!)

Oh well.

Caveat, though:

I did have some real problems with how the vampires in the book used compulsion basically as a date rape drug. That was not hot or romantic. It was handled immensely awkwardly and with so much cringe and yuck I had to mentally glaze over to keep listening.

I'm actually sort of berating myself for liking the story in its entirety anyway. Because that particular detail was nasty and didn't really contribute to the story or plot at all. It could have been edited out without anything useful being lost, to be honest.

I would never the less gladly return to this author's works if she has more vampire stories in store.
Feels like a weird thing to say, but, hey... Compartmentalising is a thing, after all.

I hovered between a 3 star to a 5 star review throughout this book. There were parts that I loved and were 5 star for sure but then there were some scenes (sex scenes mostly) that barely made it a 3 star rating. I decide on 4 stars because even though some parts made me cringe a little I really enjoyed the book. The ending was wrapped up nice and neat but I feel like maybe there is room for another book in the future? I'd read it if so. And I hate when every vampire romance book is compared to the Twilight series but there was a little Twilight feel to . All in all though I thought it was a good book.

This was a really good super natural story. Kimberly did a wonderful job creating a vampire story so different from any I’ve read in the past. Draven and Calla make a steamy couple. I could not put this book down and loved the suspense. As usually this is another book by Kimberly that did not disappoint.

Kimberly Knight won me over as a reader many stories ago--she's a fabulous romance author and one that everyone should read. But let me tell you, she's totally blown me away with her latest, Burn Falls.

I followed closely when she announced she was working on a paranormal romance. It sounded promising and the more she talked it, I knew I wanted to give this story a chance. I've never been a huge fan of the genre, but let me tell you, Kimberly Knight has emerged with a story that is so incredible, I wondered why she'd not written in this genre before. Astounding, heart-palpitating, mind-blowing...just a few words that come to mind as I reflect back over Burn Falls. Holy-moly, this is one story you need to bump up on your list of books to read this year. Move over Twilight, Burn Falls has just made my top favorite book of the year.

I'd also like to add that when I was finished reading Calla and Draven's story, I felt complete. I felt like I'd gotten a story that was written from the author's heart and soul and she didn't leave a single thing out. The way Knight told the story from past to present day--not leaving out any details--gave this story the depth it so rightly deserves. The cast of secondary characters add dimension as well. This is what a great story is all about.

Kimberly Knight, thank you for such an amazing story and for taking me on a wild, adventurous romantic ride. Burn Falls is MY favorite book this year!!

Ever read a book that made you super excited each time you knew you had a free moment to read? One where you couldn't wait to find out more? Then when it was over you were bummed and prayed there will be more in the future? That was this book for me.
This is the story of Dravin, a vampire disguised as a human doctor on the run from an old evil vampire that wants to control him. He meets Calla, a beautiful and strong woman whose father is attacked by a vampire and Dravin treats him. He thought he was the only vampire in Burn Falls. Now he has to find out who this vampire was that attacked Calla's dad and why he is in Burn Falls. And also try not to fall in love with Calla.. Dravin and Calla have no idea the surprises that are in store for them.
I am a big paranormal romance fan. And this book is definitely right up my alley. But this story is more than just romance, which by the way is awesomely steamy. But it has a mystery and surprises around every corner. Just when I thought I knew where the story would go I was happily surprised.
I highly recommend this book to paranormal and romance fans. You won't be disappointed. You will probably fall in love fall with it like I did. There is room for a second book. I hope this author continues with these characters. I'm hooked!

Burn Falls completely blew my expectations to pieces. I have read and loved some of Kimberly Knight's recent books. So I was intrigued by her expanding into another genre for sure. I like paranormal ok but only read a little here or there. Think I am a bit picky. Also I'm not even a little embarrassed to admit how much I loved the Twilight Series. So I honestly figured Burn Falls would be a welcomed change of my romance pace. I was so right, yo! This story & these characters were just what I needed.

Calla & Draven are utter PER-FECT-ION!!! They're instantly drawn to each other. There's an underlying attraction, some simmering lust for sure. However, it's stronger and deeper than that. The intricate storyline that unfolds over the course of the book is incredibly imaginative and unique - kept me intrigued and dying to know what would happen next. We get suspense, action, wicked sexiness and an HEA.

As for the paranormal aspect - the author totally NAILED IT! I freakin' loved all of it. Loved what the characters could or could not do. I loved their history, their individual struggles with who they are and how they want to live. Their limitations and how they make it all work. Gah I ate it up! And am hungry for more. Please tell me we'll get a book for Athan!

From ice cold to burning hot!!

Not your average vampire story!! No sparkling or daylight rings here, but a few new nuances. Based in Prohibition era Chicago and modern day Seattle and Alaska, your temperature will soar as the story unfolds. Murder, passion, betrayal, mystery, and love keep you on your toes and hot and bothered. And now a bit about the story...

Calla and Draven are thrown together accidentally on the night her father is attacked. Calla had returned home for the holidays only to see her father drowning in paperwork. She spent the better part of the day helping only to find him literally drowning in a pool of his own blood. Draven being a surgeon and vampire knows what has really happened. And the draw he feels to Calla puts him on immediate protection mode. But when she learns the truth can she ever forgive him?

Favorite passages:
- “I’m warning you to never make a deal with the devil because once you sell your soul to Satan, you’ll never get it back.”
- But that wasn’t possible any longer. I also wished cake could comfort me.
- “... we’ve come a long way since one.”

Note: I was given a free copy and voluntarily chose to review this book.

Initially I was very sceptical in reading this book due to the paranormal element in this book, however I’m glad I dove in and read this book. It took me on adventure and made me fall in love with the characters. This is one of the best books I have read this year.
The book is well written throughout with great use of language and key facts to make the story feel very believable and truly believe the author has done research on Vampires and the myths.
In this book you meet Draven and Calla. Draven is the vampire that is the hero who is on the run from his past who is masquerading as a doctor who the heroine Calla meets when he is trying to save her father after an “unusual” attack.
Throughout the book we see there relationship grow and see how they deal with the death of her father, her finding out about him being a vampire through to confronting Draven’s past.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone whether or not they would usually read paranormal romance or not. This is a great read and will definitely be looking to read more paranormal romances in the future due to Kimberly Knight’s great writing.

Author Kimberly Knight has stepped out of her comfort zone to bring a hard hitting paranormal romance and it doesn't disappoint.
Chicago 1928: Draven, a made vampire (and also made man) gets himself into some hot water with his sire and mob boss when he leaves his coven and goes on the run.
Many (many) years later, Draven has settled in Alaska and runs into Calla. An Irish-American woman who comes home for the holidays to visit family. There is an accident and Calla is introduced to Dr. Young who is there to look after Calla's dad. There are some awesome twists and turns that Kimberly Knight is famous for and that the reader doesn't see coming!
Burn Falls is a slow burn paranormal romance. If you are put off by the paranormal tag, don't be scared of this book. You don't get sparkly vampires! Draven and Calla are flawed individuals who find each other in a state of turmoil & try to endure!
This was a really great read for the summer! Enjoy!

Dr. McNaughty and the Whiskey Heiress- a dynamic duo

As a new reader to Kimberly Knights writing I was pleasantly surprised- great character build in the beginning with a few teasers and then bam- plot is THICK delish and eventful! I’m a sucker for a spicy tale especially one that involves vampires whiskey and passion.

I wish the book could have been longer in the more unique parts of the book (backstory and surprising details linked to the Goddess**). Everything in the end lined up perfectly and maybe it had a tad too much of “happily ever after” going for it, however, who doesn’t like happy endings?!

I really could appreciate Callas character- a completely relatable, successful average American woman who’s not a twig and Draven aka Dr. McNaughty is quite the treat! Couldn’t put the book down it was very easy to read and enticing! Knights writing left me wanting more! I recommend this book to those who like excitement a good plot and juicy details!

This is my first book by Kimberly Knight & i understand it's her first foray into this genre but you would never guess it . The story revolves mainly around Calla & Draven , i couldn't help but feel sympathy for Draven thinking his life was going down the happy ever after route only to discover monsters exist & he's just become one. Calla is home for the holidays when she meets the handsome doctor treating her dad after he's attacked & is instantly attracted to him not knowing what he is .This book keeps you on your toes , theres plenty of paranormal action , good & bad on both human & vampire sides plus a whole range of emotions to get through before we get to the hardest decision Devlan's ever had to make not knowing if Calla will forgive him for making it . Can't wait to read more from this author .

I’ve enjoyed several paranormal romances centered around vampires, from the Twilight series to the Sookie Stackhouse novels (True Blood) and S.C. Stephens’ Conversion series. Typically, if a vampire is involved in the story, I’m down! All of the books, movies, and television series featuring vampires have a slightly different vamp mythology, different rules they vampires have to abide. Well, let me tell ya, Kimberly knocked this one out of the park! She presents a refreshing view of how the vampire world “works” and built a love story around it. I devoured this book! If not for the many demands on my time, I would have done so in one sitting. It’s THAT good! I cannot recommend this book enough. Whether you enjoy all paranormal romance or just have a thing for vampires in general, I think you’ll enjoy it. Happy reading!

Vampires, The Roaring Twenties, Chicago, The Mob...and romance- this book definitely grabbed my attention. Toss in modern day Alaska and Seattle and things really get interesting.

Calla has a great a job, friends, and family. Life is good, until she goes home to Burn Falls for the holidays. Tragedy strikes and Calla's dad is murdered.

On the run from his past in Chicago, vampire Draven "hides" in Alaska working as Doctor Parker Young. Great way to always have access to blood without killing anyone.

He knows what really happened to Calla's dad and wants to help her find justice.

Twists and turns lead the reader to a powerful connection tying Calla and Draven.

Not your average vampire read. I loved that this was something a little different.
