Levekk Invaders #1

Her Cold-Blooded Protector

Rate this book
It’s not easy being human when Earth is run by aliens.

Lena has been locked up, imprisoned in a multi-species penitentiary on Earth, and all she wants is to get back to what she’s good at: keeping her sister safe.

Kormak is a levekk—a member of the same cold-blooded, alien species that enslaved her planet—and he is the key to her escape.

Kormak hates humans, and he’s not afraid to show it. They burn hot and bright but are snuffed out quickly, and the last thing he wants is a human slowing him down.

But she needs a protector, and he’s drawn to her flame. When an accident derails their escape and strands them in the wintry wilderness, just who will end up saving whom?

A girl with her eyes on the stars, but her feet firmly planted on Earth.

And if I can't go to the aliens, I'll just have to bring them to me. Or to my books, at least.

I love exploring the relationships we have with others, especially with those who are different from us. So writing about the similarities and differences we may have with a cold-blooded alien species from another solar system was a no-brainer.

I grew up reading romance, science fiction and fantasy, and I love them all. And I also love down-to-earth stories about *people*, so I hope that comes across in my books!

3.5 STARS!
"I'd never met a human like you before. I didn't know they could be like you."
Though not the smutty little read I expected, there was a lot to like about this one!

200 years after the levekk invaded, the earth is now home to many different alien species, with humans at the bottom of the food chain and the levekk at the top. There's not a lot of contact between the two groups, just suspicion and loathing, so when Kormak (a levekk) takes an opportunity to break out prison, he scoffs at Lena (a human) and her attempts to go with him.

What ensues is a pretty good love-on-the-run story that I really enjoyed.

The good:
===> No insta-love; nice, steady relationship building.
===> Strong MC's who are flawed yet interesting.
===> Adventure that kept me reading.
===> A surprisingly sweet love story.
===> Excellent proofreading.
The not-so good:
===> The story editing.
There were a few changing details, but I could live with those . . . what I found harder to swallow were the glossed over physical details. Though occasionally mentioned in passing, things like blisters, sore muscles, hunger pangs, the need for bathroom breaks, exhaustion, etc could have been used to create a much more three-dimensional experience.

If that kind of thing doesn't bother you though, Her Cold-Blooded Protector could easily be a 4 or 5 star read for you! This author shows tons of promise and I imagine that her writing is only going to get better and better.

I'll be on the lookout for the next in the series!

Promising debut.
This is a sci-fi romance where aliens have colonized Earth and humans are hanging on in a futuristic society. The beginning really sucked me in. I liked the remnants of human civilization mashing with a new alien order vibe. Plus there is an alien that was described as alien, with a nod to humanoid form. Prison and escape theme, too. Add in a Bad Boy Alien who - for once - deserved to be in that prison, and I should have been in heaven.

But....heroine Lena lacked zip. More could have been done to beef up the world-building given the original flavor of the situation. At times I liked the vibe between the MCs and at other times I was bored. While I enjoyed the dual POV, I felt there was too much internal reflection. Finally, I wanted more in the epilogue.

However, this author has promise, and I hope she goes down the path of enhancing and really highlighting her unique future Earth setting and all the species interaction instead of cutting that in favor of sex, sex, sex. I will pick up the next book.

This one was a slow burn book. It was different from the usual alien romance where the hero is like “mine!mine! Mate! Mate!”.
In this they get to know each other and fall in love. Heroine was strong and courageous. And hero was a giant softie who was more alienish in appearance than usual. The plot was well developed. In this book After the invasion, earth was changed so no fascinating alien land, culture etc. and I missed that.
Still recommended.

Very sweet and believable although, very human love story. I wish the alien love interest, Kormak was more...alien. If you took out all the parts of him having scales and claws you wouldn't really be able to tell that Kormak was an alien from reading this book. I liked it but the style just wasn't for me.

A fun, well written scifi romance!

The alien hero and human escape prison together and fall in love along the way. Very slow burn, in a good way. It lost a little steam at the end but that didn't ruin the story.

Man, there's something about surly alien men who find themselves unwittingly attracted to human women that does it for me. And when the human ends up being stronger than they look and causing a fundamental shift in the alien's belief about humans EVEN BETTER!

Seriously, this book hit my happy spots. Earth has been conquered. The aliens are here. Humans are second class citizens on their own planet. This is just something the humans have come to accept. The Levekk invaders are stronger and they have that whole subjugating worlds thing down to a science.

Good thing Kormak isn't like most Levekk. He's been living among humans after a falling out with his family and he's...not your average alien. I mean, sure, he doesn't necessarily like humans, but he's picked up some of their mannerisms and he's careful around them. He knows they're fragile and he knows they're easily broken.

Except Lena isn't. Yes, she requires different things than he does to survive, but she's smart and she can think on her feet and that comes in VERY handy when Kormak has issues on the road. (PS, I'm a SUCKER for two people being forced to share body heat when trapped in a tough situation. *swoon*)

A conquered world. Two very different species. Lovin' on the road. I'm all in for book 2!

This was really a wonderful book. It has all the things I love. Prison, a dark and powerful "hero", a journey where the hero and heroine have to work together to survive, aliens...! I love LONG books so when I saw this was only 200 something pages i was worried it wouldn't be enough for me, but the author managed to make the book feel longer in a good way. I classify this as slowish burn, too, even though the book took place over only a week.

Humanity Gets a Taste of Its Own Medicine (and a Little Alien Lovin’)

This book was a ride, and I loved every second of it! Nothing quite like an alien romance that flips the script, where humans aren’t the almighty top dogs but instead get a little dose of the treatment they’ve dished out for ages. Is it the healthiest attitude? Probably not. But hey, watching humanity get knocked down a peg by some out-of-this-world hotties? I’m here for it.

The romance had that slow-burn evolution that hooks you right from the start, and watching them grow together was so satisfying. Add in a quest packed with challenges and dangers, and I’m all in. There’s something energizing about watching the hero struggle, fight, and find love all at once—it just hits the sweet spot.

And let me tell you, there’s a lot more to this story than meets the eye. It’s got layers, it’s got heart, and it’s got plenty of alien-human tension to keep you turning those pages. For anyone who loves a good intergalactic adventure with a side of humanity’s reckoning, this one’s a win!

I liked the imaginative world building, with lizard-like alien H who dislikes humans. She is human and they are prisoners, and she takes the opportunity to escape when he does. He's huge, strong and expects her to be like all humans, noisy and weak, but she surprises him. The writing was a bit dry for me, for example the epilogue needed additional details. Overall, a good read.

This was like watching grass grow.

I did hang on until the 75% mark because so many reviewers agreed that it started off slow. However, I personally didn't see any change of pace. I tried to stick with it, but damn....give me something!

This was my absolute first alien romance. A big step, I tell you. I'm a big sci-fi romance fan, so this was actually just another step up that ladder, but even though the feel is about the same, this has it's unique outlook.

This one is about Lena, who's imprisoned in a multi-species penitentiary after doing something stupid. She doesn't have the best of times, so to speak and after another not so smart but rather inevitable action, she's facing a prolonged sentence. All she wants, and needs, is to get home to her sister, though and she's desperate. Enter the levekk, Kormak - big, brooding, not too fond of humans, with vengeance on his mind. He breaks out of the prison and Lena happens to be at the right place and tags along. Their journey home is filled with disgruntled respect, reluctant attraction and them taking turns saving each others butts.

What was good, then? I did like the concept of earth being invaded 200 years prior and how it's now inhabited by not only humans, but also a variety of different species. Humans are quite low on the social ladder, though. I also liked that Lena was both able to take care of herself, but also felt the need to be protected at times - she doesn't have to be completely in-your-face-badass. Kormak was basically a huge softie, even though he likes punching stuff to a pulp.

What could be better? I would have loved to see more of the world the live in. The next book is about Lena's sister and I hope we get to see more outside the relationship. It was a bit two-dimensional as it were and even though I enjoyed the story, it wouldn't have been bad with another layer. Also, Kormak doesn't hate humans...? It seems like it in the beginning, but I couldn't even feel any hatred. Sure, he though some of the useless, but I hardly think that constitutes as hate.

If you're looking for an alien romance with a hint of potentially awesome world-building, are not afraid of scales and are just looking for a good time, I recommend this to you.

This book was great! I loved the evolution of their relationship. I just bought this book at random and I am so glad that I did!

Lena is a mechanically inclined human who has been stuck in prison for the last three months and she only has three more to go. Unfortunately, the skeevy warden looks like he's going to guarantee that she stays there a lot longer. But lucky for her, she just happens to be in the isolation ward when Kormac, a levekk (hot reptilian alien species that now rules Earth), breaks out of prison. She throws caution to the wind and follows him. Definately, the best idea she's ever had.

Their relationship is awesome. It's a slow burn romance. The start out not sure of each other. They live in a world where any relationship they might have would be illegal. But the situation bring them together and it is HOT.

Read this is you like slow burn romance and hot alien sexy time.

It was okay, could've been better. Had some anti-climactic parts to the ending. Heroine had some extremely sketchy personal hygiene choices that completely pulled me out of the story (obviously, lol). Sometimes, it seems the hero's eyes were yellow, at other times they were described as aqua. From the way his head was described, it seemed like an old school football helmet, but did he have hair on his head? That wasn't clear to me. I'll probably read the next story if it's on ku.

I thought it was pretty good.
My only complaint was Kormak seemed a bit too human. 🤔Not in appearance, obviously. But in how he spoke and communicated. Just seemed a bit too human-like at times. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I liked this way more than I expected to and I was surprised to find out this is the author’s first book. (And disappointed, because I was hoping to to binge her back-log, but, alas.)

I was impressed by the snappy dialogue, the likable characters, and the interesting world building. I know her next book is supposed to be about Ellie, but I’m really hoping for some more off-world adventures after that. I’d love for the author to show more of the universe.

Loved it! I love to escape into the sci-fi alien trope. But this one is so much more. First of all, it's a slow burn. These two beings meet and it's not all "love at first smell" or 'fated mates". They aren't royalty either. They both have loved much different lives from one another, but a shared journey brings them together. This is a slow burn and I flipping loved it! Can't wait to read more by this author.

What a great story!

I definitely recommend reading the story of Lena & Kormak. And it was a story, an adventure, the writing was so seamless and so organic I was there on the highway, in the forest, in the abandoned cities, with Lena & Kormak, I would definitely pay for this author's work (I read through kindle unlimited). I eagerly await more stories from Lea Lennet!

Really good

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The other reviews are pretty spot on. Writing is good. World build is nice. You get a good idea of what the post invasion earth is like.
Both characters had depth and chemistry. And for once this alien romance wasn’t an insta love “mate” book. Which I liked.
This was a very unique story line with just enough excitement that kept it interesting without getting too violent or descriptive.
You never get a long winded back story as this author does a great job of interjecting the right amount of information for you to get the right idea without it dragging on and on like most tend to do.
I will say, I got halfway through the book before I realized what “Yumin Tok” actually stood for. And I laughed. It actually made me think that that’s how our verbiage today works. If you read this book you see what I mean.
Bravo to this author for this being her first book. I really feel like she knocked it out of the park and I really look forward to reading the next one.

This book was okay. It started off a bit slow, but I appreciated that it took time for the characters to get to know each other. It’s not instant love or lust, so readers who enjoy a slow burn that isn’t dragged out too much might like this. Oh, wait—everything happens within the span of a week, so I guess it is instant love, but it sure as hell doesn’t feel like it. Take that how you will.

However, I think the story could have used a bit more excitement during their time in the forest, since I found that section rather slow. I also wish there had been more development involving Lena’s sister and the old seamstress. For a moment, I actually thought the old lady might secretly call the cops on Lena while telling her to wait in the kitchen, or that the cop would notice something suspicious, like the three cups on the table. Something does happen, just not in the direction I expected. The ending was okay too.

Great world building!

For the authors first novel this was an awesome book! I've seen some that were horrible. Lena and Kormack are unlikely conspirators when they break or of prison together. Against all odds they work together and get back to the city, but what will happen I've they reach it? He's off the face that enslaved the humans and sees them as basically idiots. She is a hard-working girl from the manufacturing district and only wants to get home to get to her family. Will they make it? Will their time together soften them towards each other?
The writing some was great, we get background info without drowning in the informing. The story moves at a steady pace with enough harrowing moments to keep you feeling the book.

Escape to Love

It always energizes me to read about alien romance where humanity finally gets their comeuppance and are treated much like they treated so many races in the past. That is probably not the right attitude to have bit it is what it is. This book deals with two escaped criminals, one is a human female and the other a member of the invaders. That the earth has been conquered is obvious and so is the distrust between the two. Unfortunately the mighty conqueror ends up owing the human his life and along the way they fall in love. Which goes to show that no matter what the love is packaged in all we really want is love and acceptance. The book is different but interesting all the same.

Lena is in prison and it’s pretty hopeless bc there’s a perv there so when she gets put in like the danger zone part of the prison she sees Kormak (this giant scale-y alien who is the same alien race that warred over Earth with humans and won) escape so she follows him bc at this point it’s lose-lose.

He thinks she’s another weak human but turns out she’s iconic. They basically travel for most of the book, trying to escape the bad guys or whatever. The plot is basically entirely their romance, not much else. I didn’t mind, though.

Cringed in some parts and got bored towards the end but overall pretty cute so 4 stars.

Cold blooded...As a noun, not a verb.

An adorable prison break story. The hero didn’t have an honorable past, he didn’t look at the heroine with insta-love and he also didn’t expect her to be anything but baggage.

Which of course was a brilliant set up for the heroine to slide in, undervalued and show her strength, resilience and care.

I loved how this story drew out the Not-love-at-first-sight. I also enjoyed how the hero came to terms with his issues. . . With a hard hit to the head, but that’s beside the point.

This is really a prison escape romance - the hero and heroine are both convicts; when the heroine spots the hero escaping she follows him, and a journey through post-apocalyptic (technically, post-invasion) America follows. The power dynamics and political/cultural dynamics are actually really interesting: the hero is a member of the conquering species, but he's also an outcast convict, while the heroine is a human but one who is relatively comfortable in her pre-arrest life and has strong family bonds. Not much of a plot, really.

This book was okay. It started kind of slow and didn’t really pick up until closer to the end. I didn’t really feel any chemistry between characters, it just felt like they were there alone and it was the right place and right time. Since these two are escaped prisoners, I expected a little more drama connected with their travels’ but it seemed like no one cared once they were out of the immediate area. I also felt like there was no real resolution with her “family” and with his quest for revenge but other than that, the story was alright.
