Zoey Kent has lived with that fact ever since she turned eighteen and learned that the man she loved could never be hers. He’s a born shifter, a wolf, and she’s a mere human. Fate doesn’t care if on paper they’re a perfect pair. She isn’t his fated mate and she’s resigned herself to the knowledge that someday, she’ll have to watch Michael mate with another. It’s never crossed her mind that there might be someone else out there for her, that she would be the one to mate another, to choose another over everything she’s ever known or wanted.
Sometimes fate gets it all right.
Rafe Hudson left his pack behind years ago. Physically and mentally scarred from an attack that left his parents and twin dead, he walked away from his responsibilities as Alpha. He never intended to return but lone wolf or not, he can’t leave Michael open to an attack he’s learned is coming for his only brother. What he didn’t know was that going home would mean scenting his mate, the one person in the world that could make him whole again, that could give him everything he thought he’d lost. His pack, his home and his family.
But fate always has a plan.
There’s no way Michael’s brother is her future, is there? Just like there’s no way that the girl his brother has loved since they were kids, was always meant to be his, right?
Only fate knows why they were brought together but there is one thing for sure, the sparks between Zoey and Rafe are undeniable. The bond between them is unbreakable. And together… they’ll change the face of the pack forever.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️STARS. ARC BOOK REVIEW Release Date-15/5/18
It's been ages since I've indulged in a good shifter paranormal romance. And Jess Bryant with"Unbreakable Bond" the first book in her brand new fated Mates series certainly didn't disappoint. Despite being very insta-love this definitely left a fabulous impression on me. And because of the fated mate's angle used here, I still found the insta-love to be of a very believable nature. And got to say it; my god Rafe was a big chunk of a man-hunk. The total package; damaged, misunderstood with a sexy possessive growl that made my own toes curl; never mind Zoey's. I absolutely adored how possessive and feral he was towards Zoey. And Zoey, she was such a sweetheart; she had such a loyal, sassy vibe about herself. I really liked her complete and utter acceptance of her fate, her willingness to give Rafe her all and take a chance on there HEA. Zoey came across as the real deal here. "Unbreakable Bonds" itself was told in dual POV and was also extremely low on secondary characters. There were brief instances where we were introduced to other cast members like Zoey's mum. But other than Zoey's best friend and pack alpha Michael; who is also Rafe's estranged brother. This is mainly just Zoey and Rafe connected and working through there Demons. Much to my surprise, I found I loved this simplistic way of experiencing our newly mated wolves story and it was really nice to just kick back and just concentrate on Rafe and Zoey themselves. It made me feel so much more connected to there story. There is still plenty here to keep the reader here entertained. A bit of a mixed bag of action; rounded off with some seriously sexy shenanigans. Man, this book was red hot. And the way this was left I definitely will be continuing forward with this journey. This was such a great start to a fabulous new paranormal shifter series. Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of "Unbreakable Bond (Book 1 in the fated mates duet)" of which I have reviewed voluntary. All opinions expressed are entirely my own. Unbreakable Bond is the first book in the Fated Mates Duet. A paranormal shifter book full of action, passion, and romance, Jess Bryant packs quite a punch. Zoey Kent is a human living with (and under the protection of) the local pack. Zoey is madly in love with Michael and was heartbroken when she found out he was not meant to be hers. She knew when she turned 18 she would meet her mate. Devastated by the fact that she could not have the man she wanted, she is simply trying to find her way. When Rafe Hudson returns home, after years of being away, Zoey is shocked to discover that he is her mate. Rafe is Michael's older brother and tensions are high between the family as Rafe is determined to claim Zoey as his. With family drama, action, and shifter passion, Unbreakable Bond offers a promising start to this shifter series.
Overall, Unbreakable Bond will appeal to paranormal fans who enjoy a good shifter romance. This is my first book by Jess Bryant and I certainly look forward to reading more.
Ok I’m gonna be honest. This is my very first PNR book. I’ve never read a shifter romance ever in my life. I have trouble suspending my disbelief at anything fantasy-like. But...I decided to take a chance. I’m so glad I did! Jess Bryant destroyed me with this. It’s insta-love because, well wolves and fated mates, but it’s super hot and really exciting and slightly heartbreaking (in a way you’re ok with). I really really want Michael to find his love. Can not wait for book 2 of this duet!
Insta-love is not my thing and just makes for a boring story. And, for a PNR I was hoping for so much more action and more of a storyline besides the fact that being mated to her best friends brother was fate. I can't tell you how many times the words "mate" and "fate" were used. But, trust me when I tell you, it was way too many to count.
You would think these points alone would make me not finish the book, but for some reason I felt compelled to, and I did. Maybe I secretly was cheering Rafe and Zoey on. I definitely give the author props for that.
. I listened to the audio and the reader did a good job. The book however was kinda disappointing.
Zoey is a human raised by wolves. Since they were kids, she and Michael have been close friends. They had always thought that when she turned 18 she would be revealed to be his true mate. But 18 comes and goes and 4 years later they are still friends who feel cheated by fate. Rafe is Michael's older brother who left after being grievously injured in a rogue attack that killed their parents. He left behind Michael who was forced to assume the alpha role for the pack. When Rafe returns, things change in an instant... his first scent of Zoey.
Michael tries to stop Rafe from bonding with Zoey, even though Zoey wants Rafe. So right from the start, I'm not a fan of Michael and his belief that he always knows better than anyone else.
Rafe was a rather disappointing character though as well. I loved the way he goes after Zoey come hell or high water. But he seriously dropped the ball towards the end of the story. As the author writes in the story, what he did was unforgiveable. I don't know why the author undermined his character like that. So I basically forced myself read the last couple chapters. They were as much set up for the next book as anything else. The epilogue is all about the second book. I HATE it when authors usurp the epilogue to flog their next book.
Meh.
Safety is good
Not going to read the next one as I don't like Michael and I don't care about any of the other characters either.
Given the bad reads I’ve been having lately, yesterday I decided to venture to different paths PN. werewolvesWEREWOLVES. (Only pn I read was TWILIGHT books 1 and 2). You wouldn’t imagine my disappointment. I thought I was going to have all these wild fantasies and exciting reading. Not AT ALL. Unfortunately. The book was 99% inner monologue and 1% scattered dialogues ( let’s say about 2 sentences every 20 pages?! 😒🙄😩) The authors was telling A LOT and showing absolutely NOTHING. I was ready for some adventure. NO wild activities here. Actually not action at all besides sex. I was tired of the repetitiveness. Every thought was repeated a zillion times like we readers had some understanding impairment. Words like FATE, MATE and BOND was used in every page at least 3 times. Exhausting. Sad to say, the most boring pn book ever. Go figure. No more PN for me.
This is my first read of this author. I am a PNR fan and the synopsis on this one looked interesting. I am always up for a new twist on the traditional mythology.
This is a fated mates story. It's a bond that can't be helped. What makes this unusual, is the heroine grows up a human within the Pack head over heels in love with her best friend. Unfortunately, they are not fated mates.
Their world gets turned upside down with the prodigal, emotionally distant brother comes home. Rafe recognizes Zoey as his mate right away. Zoey feels the pull as well but she is the protected friend of the Alpha and they aren't going to let her go to him without a fight.
There is great world building, lots of action and as the title suggests an unbreakable bond with our lead characters. I liked the secondary characters. The author does a wonderful job pulling the reader along in the story. This is part of a duet and I can't wait to see where the action takes us in Michael's story.
*complimentary copy provided for an honest review.
When I finished this book I was so full of melancholy. The book hangover I'm experiencing is killing me and it has been less than 24 hours since I finished reading. To make my melancholy even greater, I dreamt about these sexy, possessive wolf shifters. At least I had an adventure of my own. ;)
So you must be wondering why I'm telling you this. I just wanted you to understand how this book effected me. I loved it so much. I want more! That said I will do my best to articulate my thoughts here. Not going to be easy.
Jess Bryant hasn't written anything I didn't love. So when I saw she was taking a turn into the paranormal/shifters world, there was no doubt I wasn't diving in. I love shifter romance.
Unbreakable Bond is one of the best shifter romances I've ever read. And I have read a lot.
This book is part of a duet and does end in a cliffhanger. However, the main H/h of this book, Rafe and Zoey have their HEA. The duet will continue as the plot continues and Rafe's brother Michael will find his own HEA.
Without giving too much away.......Rafe returns to his home and pack after years of self-exile. He has one reason for returning but things gets even more complicated when he discovers his mate. I loved how possessive he was. And let me tell you that Rafe exudes possessiveness. Oh Lord! He was so gruff and sexy. Totally alpha. Nothing was going to stand in his way of claiming his mate. Even if he had to fight his own brother. While I definitely describe Rafe as protective, possessive, dominant and sexy, he has this adorableness about him. You'd have to read this book to see what I mean.
Zoey was so sweet and innocent through the first pages. My heart broke for her sadness. She always thought she would end up with Michael. But he wasn't her fated mate so that was not possible. She was lost and lonely. But when Rafe comes back, Zoey has a whole new attitude. Her persona does a 180. While Rafe is possessive of her, Zoey discovers how much she needs and wants Rafe. Yes, this is instant attraction but if you read shifter romances, then you know this is their way.
Zoey and Rafe had some obstacles to get over. There is angst, some suspense and despite the intensity on the pages, I couldn't help but smile often. This book is very entertaining. As I mentioned earlier, this duet continues with Michael. There is a continuing threat to their pack, their lives. And most importantly, Michael will find his mate. I don't want to give anything away but I can tell you the epilogue will give you more than just a hint at what’s to come.
I loved this book so much! I absolutely recommend it as a must read. This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
One of my go-to authors who writes perfect connections between characters dives in the PNR genre for the first time ... you know I'm there for it! It's actually been a minute since I was in the shifter world, but back in the day of my burgeoning love of romance books it was what I lapped up. I love the idea of mates and being bonded to one other person and how they find each other.
I digress, but it was to lay the ground work to let you all know I was EXCITE for this book. And disappoint it did not. Oh, my giddy heart loved the OTT possessive nature of the dangerously broken Rafe. Now he's my kind of hero. I drank in his every word and action as soon as he was on the page. All that growling and posturing against his brother to get his woman, Yas! I was there for it.
I wouldn't ordinarily read a book where the heroine wants the other brother, my delicate soul can't take those kinds of stories, but again I say this is one of my go-to authors so I trusted her. And she did it brilliantly. I actually was glad that I didn't feel as as if our h wanted the pack leader in THAT way. Kind of like she just thought they'd end up together because they were besties and had grown up together.
Anyway. Long story short, loved this romance! And there was no cliffhangers ( for the cliffhanger haters out there ) Book 2 in the duet is about Michael the pack leader. I'll be there for it!
This is my first PNR book, but not my first Jess Bryant one and now I'm sucked into a new genre!
She brought the steam, angst and desire that her others bring to this beauty of a new genre for her and I'm immensely impressed. I was hooked from page 1 and couldn't put it down until the end... now I'm feening for the 2nd part of the duet.
Fate can be an evil witch when it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped, as is the case for Zoey. Michael and Zoey have always been friends, and assumed they'd be more, but when she turned eighteen, they learned fate had other plans. Unfortunately, there's no way around this...fate is the be all and end all in these decisions. He's a born shifter and though she was adopted by shifters and raised in the pack, she's still a human, and even though they appear to be perfect for one another, fate disagrees. Though they remained friends with a close bond, Zoey knows he'll eventually find his true mate and she'll have to watch it happen, but she never thought fate knew exactly what it was doing and it'll be her true mate that arrives.
Rafe was physically and mentally scarred following an attack that left his twin and their parents dead. Unable to cope, he walked away from his responsibilities to his pack as their Alpha, vowing never to return...until he learns someone is planning to attack Michael, his only remaining family. When he returns, the scent of his mate hits and he knows he's found the one person that could make him whole again, giving him everything he'd lost. However, the true shock is her identity...Zoey, the girl his brother has loved since they were kids.
Can Rafe protect his brother and the pack? Is Zoey truly his mate? How will Michael react upon learning what fate has planned for Rafe and Zoey? Is a HEA possible in a situation like this?
I will say, the idea of a heroine loving one brother and yet finding her mate in his sibling is not something I would normally read. I don't like the "too close for comfort" idea of this because of the sheer awkwardness when said brother does find his mate. Wouldn't that woman always wonder if she's truly who he wants? Would the heroine's fated mate wonder the same thing? But it worked out in this instance, thankfully. Yes, there's still things to deal with as it's a duet, but you see that Rafe and Zoey were always meant to be, that what you may consider love before was something completely different, or misunderstood.
One-click now and follow along as two people are brought together under potentially dangerous circumstances and realize what fate has planned for them. - By Elizabeth
I was so excited to learn that Jess was taking a chance and writing a PNR, instead of her usual Contemporary Romance. This book revolves around three individuals, but it's not a love triangle. Michael and Zoey grew up together and fell in love. Zoey is a human, adopted by shifter parents and raised on pack land. Michael is the youngest son of the Alpha. On her 18th birthday, they thought that fate would put them together as mates, but that didn't happen. Now fast forward 4 years and while they still have love and respect for each other, Zoey learns that a man has arrived on pack lands saying she's his mate, but Michael tries to stop it. Which is hard to believe a pack alpha would interfere, especially when we learn the wolf who wants to claim Zoey is Rafee, Michael's brother who went rogue 4 yrs ago.
This story was sweet, and funny, and scary and sexy all wrapped into one ball. I loved the characters and feel like Jess got the dynamics between mated wolfs perfect, but there were several times that I felt the story was repetitive, even repeatedly using the terms mated, your mine, alpha, etc. And about 66% through I felt like the story was completed. There was a nice climax with decreasing action, followed by what felt like a conclusion, only to have the story pick back up again. I wish the second half of the story was more developed then it currently is. But all in all a really good read!
Jess Bryant always writes layered characters that show emotional growth and her foray into shifter romance is no different.
Michael and Zoey have been friends forever. They'd once hoped they were fated mates, but it turned out they weren't. Despite their disappointment, they have maintained an affectionate friendship. Despite being the youngest son, Michael inherited leadership of his wolf shifter pack. He became Alpha at a young age upon the unexpected death of his father and eldest brother and the disappearance of his other brother, Rafe.
Having left the pack years ago, Rafe has set foot on his pack's land for the first time since that tragedy that took his family. He expected his reunion with his brother would be awkward, but he didn't expect to find his mate. 'Lo and behold, his mate is Michael's best friend Zoey.
Full of insta-love and outdoor interludes, over-protective alpha male and sassy woman. There is no cheating and no triggers. Minimum of violence and not overly graphic. HEA for main characters, but includes a teaser for book 2. Absolutely recommended!
Hard to believe this is Jess Bryant's first PNR Book. She absolutely nailed it. The character building, the other world rules of living in a werewolf pack, the concept of fated mates. All handled beautifully.
I loved the angst of the unattainable love she felt for one brother, only to find she was in fact fated to the other. Perfect level of growly MINE behaviour I love in a shifter book and gotta love a damaged hero.
I couldn't read this one fast enough and definitely recommend if you want to escape reality for a night & enjoy some PNR Goodness. Ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to get my hands on book 2 in this series. Lots more characters who need their story told.
Eh... DNF @ 60%. It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t all that good. I got bored. I saw the title and cover and liked them so I was feeling optimistic about this one, but was greatly disappointed. I’m running out of good books to read in this genre that don’t have cheesy names. (I refuse to read certain books based on the dumb titles. Yeah, I know. That probably makes me a book snob but I refuse to let people I actually know in real life who are also my Goodreads “friends” or whatever see that I read a book named [hypothetically] I Birthed the Billionaire Motorcycle Bad Boy Wereanimal’s Royal Billionaire Werepup. Or whatever) but that’s me. Not you.
At eighteen, Zoey Kent learned that the man she loved could never be hers. Fate doesn’t care that they’re a perfect pair, she isn’t his fated mate and she’s resigned herself to the knowledge that someday, she’ll have to watch Michael mate with another. Physically and mentally scarred from an attack that left his parents and twin dead, Rafe Hudson left his pack and responsibilities as Alpha behind years ago. But when learns of an attack on Michael, he heads home and scents his mate, the one person that can make him whole again.
The first book in the ‘Fated Mates Duet’ is an emotionally gripping read that captures readers’ hearts and refuses to let go. The characters are strong, compelling and easily draw readers into their story and the chemistry between Zoey and Kent sizzles with heat and electrical current that readers can practically feel leaping from the pages. But the relationship has a major obstacle and the first half of this story is a suspenseful but mostly emotional turbulent read as Zoey, Rafe and Michael tries to come to terms with the hand they been dealt by Fate.
The plot starts off with a steady pace and picks up in the second part of the book as suspense, tension and adrenaline pumping excitement builds with an enemy attacking the pack and surprising twists that also leads up to the second book in this duet. The author created a wonderful setting and very suspenseful situation that grabs readers’ attention and ensures that the want to know the whole story, so they will definitely want to read the next one.
Unbreakable Bond Jess Bryant is book One in the Fated Mates Duet. This is the story of Zoey Kent and Rafe Hudson. Zoey has always felt a connection with her best friend Michael and thought they were in love but when she turned 18 they found out they were not 'mates', so they just stayed friends. Then a few years later Rafe, Michael brother returns it them that are 'mates'. Rafe was to be the Alpha of their pack but he left after he and his parents were brutally attacked...killing them. Rafe when off and avoided his wolf pack so Michael step up and became the leader. But Rafe only came back to get help for another pack but once he sniffed Zoey, his mate he going to claim her. Really enjoyed this book...could not put it down. I can't wait for Michael's story next!!
Strict safety gang gals will not like this book (I get it. I really do). Readers that can bend the safety in some cases like me, may be able to sit back, read, and enjoy. This is not a true duet like the title states. This can be read as a standalone. The second book of the "duet" is about Michael, the Hero's brother, finding his mate.
I loved the H. It was amazing to see how devoted he was. He really did make this book. The heroine was okay, but nothing special to me. If you can, give it a try.. lovers of fated mates especially!
I enjoyed the first 25% maybe. Once they were mates I was just ready for them to have a baby and the end. Nope it just kept going and I had to force myself to finish. There isn’t even an ending or HEA. 🤦🏼♀️
It just kind of ends on a cliffhanger. And there is a second book BUT it’s about different characters. I hate when authors do that. I want to read and get a HEA from the MC’s not have the next book be about side characters and the original MC’s are now the side characters.
An incredibly hot read from Jess Bryant! As my first read from her, I am so impressed and this book absolutely won't be my last. From what I've been told, this is her first foray into the PNR Genre and she did it flawlessly!
I loved the characters. Zoey and Rafe are the perfect pair. They balance each other beautifully.
The story flowed very, VERY well. Tons of steam mixed with angst, humor, and concern for the characters made for a very well balanced story that I will be thinking about for a while.
Unbreakable bond (book 1 in the fated mates duet) by Jess Bryant. A fantastic read with some great characters. I loved Zoey's character. Rage and Michael grew on me. Really didn't like Maddox he was evil. Looking forward to the next book. 5*.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The cover and synopsis drew me in, but sadly, the content inside underwhelmed me. I will say that I was team Rafe and Zoey. At first, I was wishing it would be with Michael....but once we meet Rafe, that was it for me. I liked them, and I loved the story premise however, it just didn't suck me in and I got a bit bored by the story. Sad to say. I truly am.
I think this had the potential of being a great book if only there was more substance to the plot. They characters were all very likable and one could feel the chemistry between the h and H. So on that end, it was good, but majority of the story was spent on ramblings of how the h and H felt about each other.
Date she's a fickle person the person she's that was her mate but isnt.b But his brother Rafe is making for a complicated relationship. But fate his away to make it work between a human pack raised and her mate
