I was thrilled to discover these stories which follow on from the cancelled tv series. However, I didn't realise when I started reading them that it wasn't going to tie it all up and there was another book to come. I'm looking forward to the next book but oh my what a whole lot of cliffhangers we were left with!!
How will the 'episode' affect Steph, what will happen with Teresa and Nick? Someone is going to get badly hurt there and please, please let there be some relief for Pat from the odious Bob.
Roll on October. Can't wait to read the next one. Such a pity they didn't keep the tv series. ITV don't know what they missed out on with this one.

I am disappointed that part four did not conclude the story of residents of Great Paxford during WWII. Apparently the next installment is coming in the Autumn of 2018. I wish it had been made clear from the get-go that these short novels would not wrap-up the storyline. That said, however, all four novels were very good, continuing the stories of the characters from the TV show while they were still fresh in my mind. I look forward to the next installment.

Final, Not Final, Installment

This is the end of Season Three of "Home Fires" the novelization of Simon Block's excellent series about life during WWII in Great Paxton, an English village. As I read I fervently hoped that Block wouldn't tie up this story neatly and forever. He didn't. As I read the last page of the novel, which definitely ended with a cliffhanger, I was thrilled to read that the next novel would be released next fall. If you are wrapped up in the stories of Pat, Frances, Sarah, Steph, Erica, Miriam, Alison, Joyce, and Teresa, you will be as excited as I am. Thank you, Mr. Block, for not abandoning your creation, even if the television execs have!

The four plots continue; you can almost see them in your mind after the PBS series. Again, it ends with cliffhangers, therefore, I’ll be reading the next book.

What!?!?! This isn't the ending?!

That's right. There's another book coming in October 2018.

I guess I'm OK with that (not that anyone really asked my opinion, I suppose).

I enjoy spending time with these characters, but I really was under the impression that this 4-novella series was supposed to wrap up the loose ends left over from the television series, so I guess I was a little flabbergasted at the end.

Anyhow, as mentioned in my previous reviews of this series, you're not coming to it for the writing or the character development. It's assumed you're already familiar with the characters, and most of their further growth is done via telling you exactly what they're thinking.

However, I'm OK with that, since I'm mostly in it for the plot. I want to know what ends up happening to these women whom I enjoyed watching in the television series.

And, for the most part, the plot's keeping me interested, and I continue to want to know what will happen to each of them.

So, yes, I'll be back for the next installment.

I read these four books back to back as one novel. In fact the chapter numbers picked up after each book. They are like reading episodes of the series that was cancelled abruptly in the UK. It was fun to see what happened to everyone after the cliffhanger that ended the second TV season, still I felt that the stories weren’t all finished at the end of the 4th book. Since then I’ve read on other reviews that there is another book(s?) coming out in the fall. These books are really only for those who watched the PBS TV series Home Fires. They wouldn’t make any sense otherwise. It was kind of Simon Block to tie up loose ends for the fans of the show. The books were very simple and quick. I read all four in about as many days.

I read the last page not realizing that it WAS the last page. When I ‘turned’ it and saw there were no more.....until August, I actually said, “no” out loud! Now that I’ve settled down (a bit), I’ve decided that this gives me an excuse to re-watch and re-read the series in Aug. Admittedly, I’m an history buff and showing my age. The series has no magic or “darkness” lure about it, except that it takes place during a dark time of the last century, and shows the quiet strengths and sometimes loud weaknesses of the women in a small British village.

Very disappointed.
Each book ends the same way, leaving you hanging. Just seemed like a good way to milk the series so that the author could write another book. Also far too much inner thinking dialogue from the characters. I kept reading each book in the hope that it would lead somewhere. But after the fourth book, I was still wondering what happened. And you can’t even call each one of books actual books but more like short stories, they were such quick reads,

Read all four of these to find out what happened in the cancelled PBS series. Sadly, there is no real conclusion. We never find out who survives the war in Great Paxton. We never find out if Pat leaves horrid Bob. And we never find out if Teresa and Nick make it or if she leaves him for Annie. Nor do we know for sure that Noah remains with Frances. Disappointing there will not be another book, concluding the stories left hanging…..

Part 4 of the series continuing the stories of the inhabitants of Great Paxford, England. Of course, Will died, and one of the soldiers returned (no surprise there). I was hoping that it would be the Reverend, but that story will have to wait for another edition. I'm happy to see that the series will be continuing, even if I have to wait an entire year for it.

I fell in love with the BBC series Home Fires and then it suddenly ended with Season 2. When it was announced that Season 3 was already scripted and would be released as 4 ebooks I was excited. I read the first one immediately and then life got in the way and the next three sat on my Kindle. Over the holidays I decided to finish the series before 2017 ended. All three were true to the series and I loved how the characters continued their journeys. Cannot wait for the next one out in 2018!

Tv show revisited

I was so disappointed when I discovered this tv programme would not return for another series. So to accidentally stumble across 4 short stories which carried on where the tv show ended was a lovely surprise. Loaded onto my kindle and read whilst on holiday in Spain. Just preordered the next book.

Disappointed

Enjoyed the TV series but didn’t enjoy this book. I kept waiting for it to take off, to get going and something to happen as all the way through I kept thinking I was still at the beginning.

Was disappointed when the book finished and found there’s yet another book after this. Not sure I can be bothered.

Left feeling flat.

We watched the series which had two seasons and then ended abruptly, so I had to read "the rest of the story." Found a Kindle "book" that contained four books, but it does not show up for Goodreads, so am having to add each one separately.

Loved that Simon Block decided that he needed to continue the story of Great Paxford and its inhabitants. A light, fun read all the way around.

If this was how S3 of Home Fires was supposed to go then I'm ever more peed off with ITV for cancelling it than I was before!
Thrilled to see that there will be another novel next year, long may they continue :)

At Home Again in Great Paxford

Another installment in the saga of the English town where Keep The Home Fires Burning was set. A lot was packed into this short chapter. Thrilled to find at the end of the book the promise of another whole novel, even if it's a year away!

very disappointed that final didn't mean final. I read all 4 of the books really wanting to know how things ended. I feel a little burned by the deception. I am hesitant to purchase the sequel next year.

Becoming rather predictable

Having followed these characters through tv and now being forced to read their on going lives the story is becoming rather predictable which is disappointing. They're still a good read but just not as engaging as the story once was.

I enjoyed this instalment,

But I'm not thrilled with the idea of having to wait a year for the next one. I do look forward to it though.

After finishing all four parts, I do think this novel is best for folks who are already fans of the television show. But I'll share more of my thoughts in a review of the complete novel...

Super bummed that the book didn't really "end", and apparently no follow up is happening any time soon. I feel totally unsatisfied with what's happening with Pat and that a-hole Bob!!!

I would give this 4 stars if there weren't so many cliffhangers. I plan on reading the next book you don't need to keep me "on the hook"!

I forgot I was reading this series and found this book on an unused ipad. It just reminded me how much I enjoyed the PBS series. I hear there is one more book. I must find it.
