Romance, clean; Series, but stand alone read
More of a 3.5 for me as a reader, but loved the cover! Adam and Janey's story was my favorite kind of read. Hurting, honest characters with a heartfelt, complicated romance and fall. Loved the small town setting, seeing some of the other characters in the previous novels, and seeing bits of their backstory (as mentioned, not necessary to read the other novels to enjoy this one, you will want to though, as the characters ease their way into your heart!). Adam, such a great, strong, personable Chief of Police; Janey, his unrequited crush from ages ago; Jess her son, at the start of adolescence (yes, I can't wait to read his and Dixie's story someday down the road...hint, hint, hint E.J.!), the other family and friends in the backstory, just a lovely heartfelt, honest, small town, read with great characters, lots of little everyday life details that make your heart and head wrap around the story, and wish you were part of this town, making a fun setting and backstory for this novel. Perfect quick read for anyone with a love of HEA.
While this is a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone read.

This was a cute, quick read. Clean. No language, no sex. It's not the stongest plot- really predictable. But it's a fun read with likeable characters. I really enjoyed Adam's relationship with Jess. Not sure I would read it again. Appropriate for any age. It's great if you like predictable.

A gentle and sweet love story that had me anxious for a happily ever after. Adam is the sweetest and most lovable hero, i was so happy when he finally got to be with the woman he loved for most of his life. A heartouching and emotional romance.

In this gentle love story, there is unrequited love, fear of losing love and the need for love. Janey has been a self-sufficient widow with a young son who is hitting puberty, with attitude. After 12 long years, she is finally getting to the place where she is once again willing to consider getting back into the dating pool. Adam, on the other hand, has had a crush on Jamie since they were in high school together, but when his best friend marries her, he takes a step back. However, in all the years of her being on her own, Adam has hovered quietly in the background, taking care of Jamie and Jess without them being aware of it. When an incident brings a teaming up of resources, Adam takes his chance and begins a tentative courtship of Jamie. Although the story depicts the rhythm of small-town life, it nevertheless keeps the reader's attention all the way through, as it is well written, emotive and touches the heart. Adam is a delightful, caring hero, and Jamie a charming albeit slightly frazzled heroine. Jess brings light and humour to the story, and without their family and best friends, this story would have less character and depth. Characters from the previous book in this series appear in this book as well, however it is nevertheless a standalone and has a really good ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This is a sweet, clean romance that is the epitome of a forever love. Janey is the girl that got away from Adam when she fell in love and married his best friend Matt. One the day of Janey's and Matt's wedding, Matt asked Adam to watch over Janey if anything should happen to him. A promise that he would would keep when Janey was widowed before her son was born. Adam has carried the torch for Janey since his early school days, feelings that he has been unable to share. However, that is about to change.
Elana Johnson has written a beautiful love story. Her words come to life on the page as she slowly leads her readers into the lives of Adam, Janey and her son Jess. The relationship plays out against the backdrop of a small town where every person seems to know everything about everyone. As the relationship grows, old fears intrude, until a single moment changes the course of their HEA. Janey must work through her feelings and fears before she can risk her and her son's future. Janey, Jess and Adam find their HEA in this 5 star book!

This was a good book. Very little drama or issues. I really liked how Adam was always there for Janey and Jess after her husband Matt had passed away. He never let on how he really felt about her for so many years. He carried a torch for her for so long, I was so happy when he was able to finally tell her how he felt. Janey felt like she was doing the wrong thing by falling for her late husband's best friend. But she finally realized she deserved to be happy after being alone for 12 years. Will definitely check out the other books in this series. They all seem like such fantastic characters.

Childhood Crush

I am a Huge fan of this author. These second chance stories are just the sort of sunshine everyone needs daily.

The Chief of police has had a crush on Janey since they were kids. He has never told anyone as his best friend, Matt, fell in love with her and married her. Upon Matt's death, Adam has secretly kept his promise of taking care of Janey and her son.

Twelve years later, things in their lives have changed and they embark on a journey of intimate discovery with each other. When Adam is in a car accident, Janey pulls away as she feels like a curse to those she loves. Can Adam and her son convince her otherwise? ~

Oh, the drama and the angst! This pair nearly had me tearing my hair out. They also made me want to cry myself silly. Adam had a crush on Janey for as long as he could remember, but the fear of revealing his crush meant that his best friend got the girl. Adam’s not going to let his fear stand in the way this time. Janey’s fear of losing another love just might make everything impossible, though. Their story was so sweet and filled with so many wonderful funny and emotional moments. And where Dixie stole the show in the last book, Jess ran away with this one.

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” This proverb sums up the plot of this book. The question is how long between the hope and its fulfillment. Or, will the hope remain unfulfilled?

Johnson honestly examines the emotions and challenges of being widowed with a baby and having to watch one’s son grow up without a father. Janie’s struggles to release her deceased husband and Adam’s long suffering love for her tug at the readers’ heart strings. You’ll find yourself hoping against hope that they can find their HEA together.

The Chiefs Second Chance

This was a great story of second chances at love and marriage. Jess was a boy who had lost his father before he could ever meet him. His mother raised him till he was 13 on her own and worked a job she loved with the help of a few friends and relatives. The chief had had a crush on her from high school and so now was the time to make good on it. Read this great book and find out what happens to the chief and his loves. This was a free book and a great read . This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

She loved once, can her heart survive again.

I don’t know how I missed this series of Elana’s. Adam had loved Janey for over 20 years, but just when he was ready to make his move his best friend stepped in and swept her away. She was blissfully happy and then there was the ferry accident and she was left alone with her unborn child. Twelve years later he finally made a move when Janey seemed ready. Now he is the police Chief and everyone has an eye on the large handsome single man and his social life is everyone’s business.
Clean and wholesome and a great story.

BELOVED IN BLUE Elana Johnson
One always love books about second chances, and this definitely fills the bill. Janey back in town, and raising her twelve year son, would be nice for him to have a father figure. Then there is Adam, a love for her since high school. Getting to know the boy, was it a way for love to open for Janey once again? Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Loved Adam!! I'll admit I liked Janey better in book 1, liked her in this one until she IMO acted pretty immature. I mean what does Adam have to do????? Her son Jess and Adam bond - very endearing. He loves her, always has, and she loves him, or does she?, Jess loves him, so what is the problem????? UHG.. That being said I loved the beginning, frustrated by the middle - end but loved the ending. Anxious to see who book 3 is about.

Janey lives in the past, twelve years ago when she married and had her son. She finally feels able to move past his memories. Adam has had a crush on Janey for years, and just when he works up the courage, his best friend takes her first. He has cared for her in secret for twelve years and is waiting for any sign she is ready for more. They are both hesitant to let anyone know and the public interest is crazy. This is the story of Adam and Janey who have been friends for years. Adam has been in love her with her all this time but she married his best friend. She is now a widow with a 12 yr old son and he is the Chief of Police. As Adam bonds with jess her son, she and Adam start dating. The characters are well developed and liked the way the relationship grew. Enjoyed this book and looking forward to more in this series. So far, this is the same as the Paramedics Second Chance only with soup instead of ice cream. And what idiot orders five bowls of soup when he goes out for a meal? And what hotel HAS five different soups on the same menu? Get real.

I had to dnf when I read the word 'soup' for what had to have been the thirtieth time. There is no tension or conflict here, nothing to grip me and make me care about any character.

The Chief's Second Chance

The title seems off in this book. He, Adam, has never been married. He has lived only one woman. But she had married his best friend years ago. Janet has been a widow for over twelve years now. But her husband's best friend has always been around. But when they start seeing each other she has a panic attack. Will she be able to move on? What about her son, will accept a new father? I enjoyed reading this story, can't wait to read the next book.

Unrequited

Adam has been in love for the last 20 years with the same woman, she is unavailable so he thinks. Jane's heart is finally ready to take small steps to open to a relationship again after her husband's death over a decade ago. She and her son have played a major role in Adams life unknowingly for a long time and if Adam has any day in it, it is going public. Enjoy this quick read as this family meant to be finds their way home.

He has always love her––from afar since she fell in love and married his best friend.
When she was widowed he continued to look out for her, never trying or more while she grieved.

An innocent conversation leads to them meeting up for dinner... Is it a date?
Is she ready to "date"; would her son be OK with her dating?

The characters are well done and the story well paced...
The dialogue seems realistic.

It works as a stand-alone, but you really do want to read the series.

A wonderful Love Story

absolutely loved this story of true love and especially loved the main characters: Adam Janey and Jess. I don't want to say too much here and give away the story as it developed. Even though it is a live story, UT was it the usual boy- girl love story. There is a terrific story of cam up joy and friendship and teaching important lessons for the younger generation. His series... So ready for the next story.

Wow, Adam is a very patient man. Loving one woman for 20 years, but not having her. That's quite a love story. I enjoyed getting to know Adam and Janey a little in the first book and am so glad they got their HEA. This is a sweet book and I loved the relationship not only Adam and Janey had, but the one Adam developed with Jess as well.

Adam, the Chief of Police has had a crush on Janey for a long, long time. But his best friend married her and was killed in a ferry accident early in their marriage. Janey and her son Jess have been on their own ever since. Adam has secretly watched over them all this time, but still wants a relationship with Janey. I love the story - especially the way Adam interacts with Jess.

Quite Good!!

I really enjoyed the story of Jamey and Adam. I really liked the fact that Adam wasn't the typical Alpha cop, but he was a little more laid back. The chemistry between him and Janet was awesome and I loved his relationship with Jess. This was a great second chance story.

Truly Enjoyable, I Fell In Love With Adam

I did have trouble understanding why Janey kept saying Adam broke up with her. She's the one who stopped all communications. He left the ball in her court, and she never went back to see him or even text him. She's the one that didn't want the relationship to continue.

He Stopped In

I really enjoy Elana' s style of writing, sweet clean romance. I didn't want to put this book down. The characters are interesting and engaging. Adam went a long time before he told Me st how he felt about her. This story isn't just about Adam and Janey, but Jess and Adam are developing a fight bond.

Heartwarming

In today's world so many folks want to just rush through life and not take the time to experience love, life, and happiness. To be able to read even a fiction story where someone was able to control their feelings over 20yrs, and then to express them only at an appropriate time sets a Sterling example for us today. Definite 5 star and worth the read
