Young, inexperienced billionaire Eric Dendall is only twenty-three, but he’s lived a sheltered life, closing himself away from the world. When he gets a diagnosis and a short life expectancy, he breaks out of his shell of luxury and goes out on the hunt to find someone to give him that intimate experience. While on his journey his ‘stubble jawed hero’ comes to his rescue. But is Josiah really just being kind?
Or does he have other motives? Eric can’t tell past those gorgeous gray eyes.
Ex-military man and bar owner Josiah Durvoy has been through it all and has the cuts to prove it. Retired from his bodyguard gig, his old boss calls him up for a quick favor. Now he has a new mission; to protect Eric and do so secretly. While juggling his club and watching after Eric, sparks fly, and it leads to insurmountable amounts of heat. With the scars of a past relationship still haunting him, will he be able to see Josiah for who he is without the smoke screen of old pain?
Out free in the wild world that Eric plans to explore, he comes across many things that tease his delight and curiosity. But when secrets reveal themselves will Josiah really be able to protect him and return Eric to his older brother in one piece? Or will Eric leave both of them high and dry?
Runaway is a 53k Novella with and HEA, no cliffhangers and no cheating.
I just randomly listened to the Sample of this book and the story pulled me in. I definitely didn't anticipate the twists and turns of this book. Have you ever wanted to chuck it all & just enjoy all the things you've missed out of in life? It's funny how misconceptions, your own and others can be so constricting. How can you move forward on this great adventure when you are ill prepared to even leave the house alone? But home becomes a self imposed prison - particularly when using it for both work and not working. When your sole focus is work what else is even appealing?
How could someone allow themselves to be so isolated that they have no friends, no social outlets to just relax and enjoy life? How could "Richie Rich" be the polar opposite of his society column skirt chasing brother? Can someone be too social? Can someone be too reclusive? How could they possibly understand each other living on the extreme ends of the societal spectrum?
Our two main characters lived lives that had others worried about them. Each of them had run away in his own way. Eric/Aiden ran from a life many envied - if only they knew the truth of him just existing in a golden cage? He was determined to be his true self for the first time. But just who was he? How was he going to accomplish his goals out in a world he was not used to being alone in?
Josiah (one of my favorite names - next male puppy or cat definitely) did what he does best: watch over others - take care of others. Though a Club owner he had a sideline being a Bodyguard - overtly & covertly. He is living his second life, but not well. He's not happy, mostly just going through the motions everyday.
Then a collision course between Eric/Aiden and Josiah is the beginning of a new adventure for the both of them. Can you truly run away? They learn that running away sometimes leads you 360 degrees back to where you started! Was it worth the trouble of running away? Can someone unintentionally run into love?
I really enjoyed reading this book and plan to read the second in the set, as well as more by this new to me author. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this book. The lesson I learned is don't be afraid to live YOUR life - not just what others think you should do.
DNF! This book was too ridiculous for me. The author tried so hard to show how rich the MC was that it just came off as douchey!
“I rolled out of the wonderful embrace of my memory foam mattress and dragged myself to the bathroom. The thing was an extension of my bedroom – sprawling, expansive, and luxurious. I bet a basketball team could all plop down on the tile and make snow angels. Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but at least the starting line-up.”
And then...
“The cold marble in my bathroom seeped into my feet, reminding me to turn on my floor’s heating system. With the turn of a dial, the warmth permeated the tiles and melted into my bathroom, saving me from catching death of a cold – or at least a case of severely cold toes. I jumped in the shower – which was also capable of holding a starting lineup”
I rolled my eyes so hard I had a permanent headache from that point on. I skimmed a bit after that and it didn’t get better so I literally DNF.

I enjoyed this well enough but the formatting is a little odd. First, there is a separate "Prologue" book (very short), that sets up part of the story - that I feel is important to the overall piece. But, I should note- Prologue, by itself, doesn't really go anywhere. Then, this main book (Runaway) 'ends' but the then there is an epilogue at the end of the story AND a 'bonus epilogue. I felt both of these parts were very necessary parts to the story. Often, writers use an Epilogue to color the story with what happens 'after'. In Runaway, there is no natural end without the epilogue.
Anyway, I did like the story and felt the relationship between Eric and Josiah was well-developed and pretty hot. All the parts (Prologue, main book, epilogue, bonus epilogue) make a complete and enjoyable, often steamy reading experience.
I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
This is a well written story that touches on serious topics like cancer, coping with a grave diagnosis, coming out and finding love. I loved the hot scenes and how Eric blossomed❤️
The story moved quite slowly and it did not engage me as I anticipated. The characters felt a bit weak and underdeveloped. This was my first book by the author and hopefully I was just not in the right headspace when I read this story.
