*** An introspective look at the inner thoughts, concerns, lies and truths he's been taught; a war within himself. Derek, future Alpha of their "sept" has haunting thoughts. Does he believe all he's been told? Well, he is discovering all of it isn't true. Derek, 25, is chosen to travel to the city wolves to help them battle and contain the rampant vampires. He has sex while he's there, but not the desired commitment and deep passion he seeks. He likes the city wolf, Stephan and his great son Rico, who have had a much harder life. He meets a family member who was long thought dead. Questions are bombarding his mind. He's enjoying the freedom, learning from the wolves, and he fought well in the confrontation with the vampires, where he even took injury saving another. He and Stephan's deeper friendship is formed, and the two men will talk, explore and get great sexy times. It is the elusive peace and serenity in Stephan's arms that Derek has found. The surprise visit from Derek's bitter father and cruel brother, that brings everything to a boil. Marvelously intense thinking characters, a smooth flowing tale, and the inner struggles faced. Noah Harris is wonderful with his sweet romance and thrilling stories. We always learn about untangling musings and finding strength. ENJOY !
Noah’s second book in his new series “Heart’s Desire” is as great as the first book. Derek’s an alpha that’s to inherit his father’s position to lead the pack one day, the problem is, Derek doesn’t want to. His disposition isn’t like his father’s stoic, hard personality; he rather let his younger brother take over who has the same disposition as his strict disciplined father. But tradition warrants that Derek is the man and it would be an embarrassment to his family if he allowed his brother to fight him for the position.
On Derek’s 25th name date he’s told by the pack’s council that he has to go on a mission to help the city pack of wolves to fight vampires. Something that Derek doesn’t know anything about. He’s father makes him promise that he will come back home and not be taken in by the city pack and shuck his duties as alpha in the sept.
Derek’s mission is the best learning experience the young wolf could have been given and not just about how to fight vampires, but personal growth that he never had thought about. I love Derek’s gentlemen’s politeness and the alpha that hosts Derek is the complete opposite. A brassy, short tempered alpha, Sean, but his second in command is Stephan who’s has the gentle nature like Derek. Stephen also has the cutest son, Rico that is just so adorable how he loves Derek.
I love all the characters and how they fit with one another to help Derek learn to think for himself. Even Rico can have a word of wisdom for Derek. There’s the fighting with the vampires, but it’s mostly about Derek coming to terms with other choices he could make in his life. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to another to follow. I am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
But finding one's place and real self in the process. From a prickly beginning to a warm and satisfying resolution, this was great even with some grammatical errors that I hope were intentional. Derek is a good wolf who comes to know himself not just what others want him to be. And remember: The best way to kill a vampire is just to rip its head off.

Summary: Derek had spent his life trying to live up to the pack and his father’s expectations. What ever he tried was never good enough while his younger brother Aron excelled at whatever he did. The only thing keeping Derek as the next pack alpha and their pack follows tradition above everything else. That changes when Derek is chosen to go and assist the City wolves Deal with some encroaching vampires. Derek soon finds out nothing he was taught about the City wolves is true. The most shocking was when he found his uncle who he thought was dead was not only alive, but in charge of all the City alphas. Things may be different in the city, but the connection and caring between the members is the same. As Derek begins to make a place for himself he starts to question where he truly belongs. Derek finds not only a family who accept him the way he is, but possible love interests. The choice to remain as his pack expects or to look to a different future.
This was an incredible story that takes the reader on a journey exploring a choice between two different lives. Derek’s confusion and concerns are ones that many individuals deal with at points in their lives. There are many wonderful and complex characters who came to life as the story unfolded. It is my hope that there stories have just begun.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This second book in the Heart's Desire set is definitely a stand alone. I actually enjoyed it more than the First Book, BONDED BY FATE. From the very beginning I felt sorry for the main character Derek. He was the Sept's Alpha firstborn son and an Alpha himself, ensuring that the mantle of leadership is passed down to him. Easy is not the head the crown lies on, nor the one waiting to inherit it.
There are some wonderful Father-Son relationships. Derek did not have one with his. Nothing he did was ever good enough for his stern, demanding, perfectionist father. No matter how hard he tried Derek could not please his Alpha Father. He dreamed of a different life, wishing he could trade places with his younger siblings, but felt duty bound to be what his father told him he needed to be. Sept royalty was certainly not all wonderful like others imagined.
The author Noah Harris introduces the dichotomy between two groups of Wolves featured in this book: the City Wolves and those that lived in the Woods in a large Sept. There was no love lost between the two of them. Fewer Wolves lived in the City, but they were kept very busy trying to keep Vampires from killing Humans & Wolves. They wanted more Sept Warrior Wolves to help them with their dangerous battles. Repeated requests had been ignored.
The more rural Sept Wolves held the City Wolves in contempt initially for leaving the Woods, next embracing too many Human technologies, but mostly for not teaching/continuing the traditions - the long held beliefs of the Sept Wolves or passing them on to the next generation. Despite these differences in opinions they were all still Wolves. When a set of them (even City Wolves) need help, eventually help is given though sometimes very reluctantly.
Unexpectedly Derek gets the opportunity of his lifetime and he eagerly sets out to embrace the adventure he hopes he'll find, out of the overbearing grasp of his father. What he finds his wildest dreams did not prepare him for. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, but halfway through I was enjoying it so much that I purchased it. I loved what the author did with Derek's character. I truly loved this story.
Book two of Noah’s new series lives up to the expectations set by book one. We are introduced to new characters from the mountain and woodland sept. This time the bulk of the action is transferred to the city where the werewolves have a vampire problem. I’d like to have seen more of the vampires. The characters are great, loveable and well described. Derek, heir to the Alpha is sent to help in the city, much to the dismay of the City sept leader who’s identity comes as a surprise to Derek. Sean is the city alpha and Stephan his second in command and both these hot men play a pivotal role, contributing to a twist which was the best bit of the book for me. I was disappointed not to see some of the support characters from book one make cameo appearances, particularly Mags the Shaman, who could have added a sense of continuity and richness and taken the reader more into this world of werewolves. But the story stands alone well enough without it. The plot is not deep or complex and is character rather than action driven. There isn’t much romance till late in the story and it’s a bit rushed but there are a few hot scenes on the way there. This book is definitely a good, enjoyable read and there’s a little bit of everything, romance, heat, action, humour and emotion, however, it’s a bit low-key. I kept waiting for the plot to ramp up...and it just didn’t. This series is good solid MM paranormal writing and I’d recommend it...but for me, it’s missing the wow factor. Derek is a gentle alpha who is destined to lead his pack, a wealthy sept that was the leader of the other septs. He doesn't want to do it but his sarcastic perfectionist brother is foaming at the mouth to be the leader. Derek reaches his name day and is sent on a mission to help the city wolves fight against the vampires. The pack in the city is resentful that only Derek is sent, so he has a lot to buck up against. He gradually finds himself settling in and is falling for one of the pack. He is asked to stay, but his dad and his brother come to drag him back home. Will he be able to escape and fill his own dreams like he had wanted to all his life? Has he found the family he has been looking for, the one he has needed all along? Violence, vampires, hard decisions to make and finding love. An excellent story as always with this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book
😨Will Derek be the heir and leader his dad expects or opt for his own path?!🐺 May 16, 2018 👍4.5 stars. 🐺 I am a fan of Noah Harris' work, and found this story touching, hot, surprising and well-written (as usual with his books). Surprising because I really did not guess where hero wolf shifter Derek's affections would take him.
The characters in the City Wolf pack were all distinct, developed and interesting in their interplay with new guy in town Derek, and I liked the descriptions of how the country wolf lifestyle differed from that of their city counterparts. Very little battling in this story, but that was fine by me. I did wonder how the city packs supported themselves but that did not detract from my enjoyment of Derek's story and its very satisfying conclusion.:-)
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is my second book in this series and I think I ll leave it here. Unfortunately for me I find them extremely boring. The characters are interesting, I liked all of them even Sean but literally nothing happens. Derek is sent to help a neighbor pack but that s a plot that was quickly squashed since he didn't do much aside from proving he could fight when he got there. Derek than spends 80% of the book sleeping with someone other than the main interest. It s not as bad as it sounds bc they were all adults, no cheating involved and I actually liked all of the characters but there wasn t much romance. Then he decides to give it a go with Stephan who apparently he falls quickly inlove with, than his dad shows up, Derek renounces his hair title and that s it. The end! Pretty bland and anticlimactic.
This is a wonderful, enjoyable book and a pleasure to read. This book is basically about a wolf shifter (Derek) and his journey to being accepted by city wolves, love and happiness. What you will find in this book is: wolf shifters, vampires, a controlling father, a not so nice brother, a long lost uncle, drama, intrigue, twists & turns, some action, humor, danger, resentment, surprises, violence, disagreements, conflict, sarcasm, attractions, family confrontation, lust, passion, love & mild erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and written, the pace is steady and not rushed. The characters have needs and desires according to their personality. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a M/M shifter romance with a HEA.
Thank you for the ARC audio book, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Derek was sent to a neighboring pack, when his pack was asked for help. getting away from his over bearing father was a relief. The Alpha of the pack is irritating and insufferable. Denying that he was attracted to the man was just the beginning of his trouble. Sean was iffy about the guy that came to his group. Was this pup for real? Trying to get him use to city life and all why they both was fighting the heat that was coming between them. This book was full of steam and passion, can Derek give in to his feeling? Once the troubles are over will Derek and Sean finally have a chance to be together? This was a great book and the narrator did a wonderful job of all the characters.
Derek is next in line as Alpha in a poweful sept. His life has been about training for it. His dad, the current Alpha is set on his ways and very traditional. His younger brother wants his position. All Derek has known is at his pack in the mountains until he is sent on a mission to help the City Wolves. He realizes so many of his truths might not be so. While he falls for a city wolf, he will have to make tough choices. I really liked how his views change and how he is so compassionate and yet strong and ever the gentleman.
this one was hard for me.. the first book was soo amazing. and i was so excited for this one.. and it was good.. but i didn't even feel like it was the same series.. and i honestly didn't connect with derek and his relationship with stephan made very little sense... like i thought he was still with sean.. there was no talk about anything changing and then all of a sudden hes with stephan and i was just confused.. i did enjoy this story.. i loved how it ended with his family and all tha.. i loved the kiddo.. it was a good story but parts of it i just didn't enjoy.
This is the second book in the series and can be read as as a stand-alone.
I sympathised with Derek - poor guy couldn’t do anything right as far as his father was concerned. Derek’s new mission allows him to explore a different way of life and to follow his heart.
I was surprised at how things turned out with Stephen coming out of nowhere. I was left wanting to see more of these two together. Their emotional connection was just as strong as their physical. I loved how Stephen became Derek’s strength especially, when he needed him.
Breaking Tradition by Noah Harris is the second book in the Heart's Desires series. The worlds of shifters created in this series is intriguing and entertaining. I like the theme of breaking with the traditional and finding new ways, your true self and desires. Derek went from. Not being good enough, tobeing his true self and making the best decisions for himself, choosingthe one he truly wants. I liked the characters and look forward to more books in this series.
A fairly good gay/bisexual low-steam wolf-shifter romance featuring a forest werewolf who is assigned to a mission in a city. The story is good and interesting, but the writing quality is brought down with too many misused words and grammatical errors. There is even a scene wherein someone corrects a child's grammar: the trouble is that the child was correct and the adult was wrong. Since the author made the same grammatical error ("I" used instead of "me") repeatedly, it is clear the author doesn't know his grammar very well.
I have to say I loved the second half of the book. The first half not so much.
The relationship between Derek and Stephan was a surprise and a bloody awesome one. Why? Because I was finding myself giving up on the story with Sean as one of the main love interest urrg. That part was so unnecessary.
Overall I’m glad I finished it because I loved Stephan from how supportive he was to Derek from the start. Rico was a bonus for Derek and loved that he finally got a family of his own that loves him.
MM. Shifters. Derek is ready to inherit the Alpha position from his father but first must travel to the city to assist in the city packs' fight against the vampires. Derek is already second guessing the path his father wants him on, and his father rules Derek's life with an iron fist. Life in the city is not what he imagined and the wolves there give him much to think about the direction his father wants for him. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is a great read if you are looking for areas were making your own way after living under harsh conditions. Derek was brought up to take over from his father but never felt he was good enough. After being sent out to help a brother - group he finds more than he bargained for, but in a good way. Being taken out of your box you can see more of what life has for you.
Noah is a newer author to me but I have a few of his series completed. Book 1 in this series was great, but I found this book not only conflicting in the world building with book 1 but lost in the romance of it. I didn't know who the second main character was until 30% into the book and then I was wrong. I was confused through the whole book and it seems like the MC was choosing the safe option instead of the better suited option.
Great addition to the series and a joy to read. Most of this story takes place in the city where the werewolves have a vampire problem and we meet several new characters. Wonderful characters all around, I especially like Derek, he's a strong alpha but can also be very sweet and caring. Looking forward to the next one in the series, I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
The difference between the city wolves and the forest wolves was fascinating. While this special journey Derek finds the real truth and must make the decision on if he will live his own life or the life that was expected for him. Noah Harris characters are passionate and full of life. Very well written. Looking forward to reading more of the series ⚘⚘⚘
When Derek is sent to the City, things were very different. Away from his strict Father and Alpha, the eldest son finds he likes being able to be himself. The book had a nice story and characters. There wasn't enough Vampire fights, but otherwise it was good. The city wolves were cool, especially the kids.
OMG, this was absolutely wonderful, I loved it! Definitely a must read, this Author really knows how to keep you turning those pages! It's full of excitement, drama, great characters, funny, and a beautiful love story! So many thanks, Honey Bee 🐝📚💙🎶
Excellent characters, well told storyline and plenty of page turning twists. A different take on the usual m/m stories, but I really liked seeing Derek find himself during his journey.
It was okay but not as good as the 1st book. Everything was a bit too easy. Derek is sent to the city to help the city wolves. Not a lot of problems fitting into city life. Biggest issue is inner turmoil over his control freak father and not fitting in as the next alpha.
