This one was different than what I am used to from AR, but I have to say that once I realized I was getting more of a storyline than sex, I quite enjoyed it!!! Don’t get me wrong, there was still the over the top insta love thing going on; but there was more going on than just sex, sex, sex! Lol

Nobody does kidnapping/Stockholm/Obsessed hero better than AR. Aaaaaa NEED!

"Sheltered" is the story of Blair and Ryker.
So I was pretty damn excited for this one, because AR are the queens of obsessed heroes-And this had a damn good one.
Without going into spoilers and giving the story away..
When Blair, who has come from extreme povety gets a job thanks to her "boyfriend", she expects it will provide a better life and future for her.
But as she finds a dangerous secret, and discovers a heartbreaking truth- she is "whisked away" into a place of happiness by Ryker, who's been stalking her.
How she falls for him is the story.
Now my recent complains with AR books have been regarding lack of a solid story, angst and some drama- but this was good in all those counts. A nice story, a little betrayal, some sweet lovemaking, a lot as asskicking, a cat named "Bear" and some adorable epilogues fill this tale.

Obsessive romance mixed with some suspense!

This was kind of a suspenseful Alex Riley. It wasn’t JUST erotica this time. It was obsessive romance, mixed with some suspense, and it was pretty dang good.

I'm glad I hung on .. 3.5 stars

I'm not going to lie, I put this on pause because of the fact she had a boyfriend that she proclaimed to love. Even though things weren't what they seemed, I wasn't crazy about the beginning. That being said, once they got together, I definitely warmed up to the story. I'm glad I listened to some of my buddies!

-instalove
-steam later in the book
-no violence of a sexual nature
-really good epilogue

I usually complain that Alexa’s books are not long enough. So at 220 pages I was looking forward to reading this.

The problem is this wasn’t quite the read I was expecting. And all the extra pages seemed to make it dull in places and therefore it dragged a little.

I loved that Ryker loved Blair so much. I was less impressed that he drugged and kidnapped her. Once he had kidnapped her it took forever for her to ask and him to tell her why.
It was obvious fairly early on how this was going to turn out. And yes generally Alexa’s books are not read for their intricate and complex plots but as this was a longer read my expectations were higher.

Blair seemed a bit wishy washy and naive as well.

Alexa Riley writes the best insta love stories! Sheltered was a fast paced romance with a bit of suspense. This is a great book for people who like insta love and OTT alpha males. As always the epilogue (s) were fantastic. 💖

honestly this just didn't do it for me. i despised everything -- the heroine, the hero, the storyline, their personalities, the plot twist. nothing worked except maybe the smut which warrants it one star.

the heroine, blair, was an absolute disappointment. easily duped, innocent, painfully naïve, and making half-baked justifications to support her questionable choices. if a strange man kidnapped me by STABBING me in the elbow so that i'd be drugged and unconscious i would NOT be thinking about how hot he looked or trying to bone him?? good lord i would be trying to get my ass the fuck out of there. but this girl goes on to spend the next 50 pages going on and on about how dreamy he looks.

but that's not it. the hero, ryker, was a straight up creep. i don't care how many excuses he made; watching her sleep, breaking into her room and smelling her underwear without her knowledge, basically stalking her everywhere.... this completely crossed a line for me and honestly i can't in all seriousness call it love if you're essentially invading another person's private space. i know this is supposed to emphasise how obsessed he is with her, and so on, but all it did was give me chills because again if this was happening to me i'd be calling the cops.

i understand that the romance genre isn't always realistic and what we read does not necessarily equate to what we support or tolerate in reality, but i will be thinking twice about picking up alexa riley in future simply because this book threw me off balance and made me immensely uncomfortable reading it. i did enjoy some of their previous works, but i just couldn't buy into this endgame no matter how hard i tried.

I read so many reviews I became so obsessed with this book.. I couldn't find the ebool so I ordere the pb and so happy it came before my vacation!

I loved it, these Hero's are just so swoony! I don't know what I would do if I became kidnapped by a man who's obsessed with me.

I loved the extended epilogues because that way we got more closure! Also what a hot book!!

Mmm definitely not my favorite from Alexa Riley.
Captivity is absolutely one of my favorite tropes I LOVE reading so the idea of this book was very enticing, the execution not so much :( a lil boring and nothing too exciting

Blair is determined to not be like her mom, an alcoholic with a habit of choosing the wrong man. As soon as she's able, she leaves the trailer park behind and heads to the city, and her boyfriend. Though they're from two different worlds, she knows this is the start of her new life.

Ryker knew the second he saw Blair she was special, he just didn't know until later they were already connected. He already wanted Blair as his own, but now he's even more determined to have her, to save her, from the danger she doesn't know is coming her way.

Blair knew she and Fritz didn't have the best relationship, sometimes going days without talking or seeing each other, but she never expected to catch him cheating on her, nor to discover he was using her the whole time.

When she runs, needing to get away, she crashes into the one man prepared to do anything to protect her...including kidnapping her.

How will Blair react to Ryker's declaration that she can't leave? Or that they're meant to be together? As she begins to fall for him, what happens when she learns the connection between Ryker and Fritz? Who can she trust? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people are brought together by one man's obsession for his soulmate.

Admittedly, that was a different read from Alexa Riley. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something's changed that I liked very, very much.

Blair, a girl trying to make something for herself, finds herself into a relationship with the definition of a douchebag (and I can't stress that enough -- I've dated a similar kind of guy back at Uni - he really upped the bar for the future douchebags). Anyway, she thankfully sees his true colours before it's too late.

But someone is out there as well with his eyes set on Blair. Something is different this time because his sole purpose is to cherish and protect her, irrespective of any hurdle he may encounter.

This is a book of insta-love, over the top male on the stalkerish side, a strong female and all the goods that only these two authors can deliver.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I really enjoyed this story. It was steamy, had some action and mystery, and a totally obsessed hero.

The only thing I wanted to change? Blair had a bad case of BBS (body betrayal syndrome). I need her to be angrier and hold out against him longer for abducting her and holding her captive. She just gave into him and his body too quickly and I hate that.

2018 seems to be my year of discovering new authors. It is also the year I discover what genres work and don't work for me. I should have read the fine print and warning that screamed this author loves insta-love, because I'm always sceptical when it comes to that trope.

Either it works, or in most cases it doesn't.

Sheltered is very much a classic case of, "it's not you, it's me." I almost DNF'd this. Multiple times. But the completionist in me had to keep going. Maybe I shouldn't have read too many stories with intense chemistry, sassy heroines and brooding, delectable heroes, because this demonstrated the complete opposite.

It left me so disappointed.

In my suffering I learned I have zero interest in possessive alpha millionaires who have this need to save the poor girl everyone ignores, because she's less fortunate. I also have no connection whatsoever to Blair, who fell into this dark hell of winding up with someone who drugged and kidnapped her, yet being o-fucking-kay living with him.

Ryker made me want to throat punch him before slipping myself into a coma.

However, Sheltered does have some redeeming features: gorgeous cover, an intriguing blurb that actually grabbed my genuine attention and some semblance of a storyline. Perhaps one day psychotic kidnappers will intrigue me.

I will leave my review short and ending on one of my favourite quotes from Bianca Del Rio in RuPaul's Drag Race, "not today, Satan, not today."

This novella is everything. EVERYTHING. Sheltered not only provides us with AR signature traits like an over the top alpha who falls hard for his love but it also gave us the drama that I crave in books.

The idea of a stalker/kidnapper should scare me but I promise you, my feelings for Ryker is anything but scared. Holy crap did I fall for him hard. All he wanted to do was protect Blair and give her everything she wants/desires.

So let me back up. Blair grew up in a troubled home and really didn't have any friends or family. Once in college, she started dating someone who she had been with for the past 5 or 6 years. She's recently moved to his hometown to work at one of his galleries and hoping to rekindle their relationship since it's been flat for a while now. What she didn't know was that once Rykler laid eyes on her, she was his and he was going to do everything he could to protect her.

What set Sheltered apart from other AR books for me what the added amount of drama and twists. I felt like we got a complete story that wasn't just a quick hard fall romance. While I love and crave those from AR, these added elements really made Sheltered stand apart.

If you want a swoon worthy alpha who will do anything in the world to keep his love happy and safe, then you do not want to miss out on Sheltered. Ryker and Blair will steal your heart!

2.5 stars rounded to 3. I had real issues with the H in this book. He was super-stalkerific and somehow I just couldn't see him as a romance novel H at the beginning. He stalks the h and brings her home with every intention of keeping her as his captive against her will. And I felt very sympathetic towards the h because of it. Yes, she develops Stockholm syndrome very fast (like most other romance heroines) but I still couldn't get over how the H had manipulated her into being with him. So while there's a long explanation regarding his motives for doing what he did; I just couldn't help but question his actions and the fact that they were more than borderline psychotic.

On the plus side, this is as steamy and intense as you would expect an other AR novel to be. So if that's what you look for in romance, then this is the book for you - if you can ignore the creep factor that is. Ok, but not something I would really recommend.

this book was a lil on the longer side than other AR books but i really appreciated the extra details!

this was your typical AR book with an OTT obsessive H and a sweet, adorable heroine. i think my fav part was that they didn’t become intimate right away like some of AR’s other books but this book has a bit more depth and storyline. they didn’t actually get together until a bit later since the H was working on his plan to kidnap the heroine and make her fall in love with him. ahhh swoon. his entire existence depended on how happy she was. so cute!

Merged review:

I was surprised at the length of this book, I know AR has some full-length novels but I’ve gotten used to the really short ones so I was a little surprised. Blair has worked her ass off and she’s come a long way from the trailer park she grew up in. When she started school at the College of Charleston she planned on majoring in Education and becoming a teacher. But then she met a little weasel named Fritz who befriended her and convinced her to switch to a Business major. They met sophomore year and Fritz (the twatwaffle) has been guiding her ever since. Boy is she lucky to have such a needle dick for a boyfriend. He gets her a job at a swanky art gallery, that he claims his family owns, even though she knows nothing about art. Blair was a nice person but at times I wanted to shake the shit outta her and knock some sense in her. Ryker Hunt has been watching Blair and he’s clearly obsessed with her but he’s also concerned for her safety. We as the readers are not sure why he feels he has to protect her but it was pretty obvious to me almost immediately. I definitely knew she was better off with an obsessed stranger than she was with Fritz, I mean the dickless wonder. Parts of this were completely far-fetched but it was also exciting.

I have to confess, that at the beginning I needed to a bit force myself to read. Just because there was one of the elements, that so frustrates me. I hate when h ignores all signs, that is easy to read. I don't know if Blair was blind or just lied to herelf about it, and that doesn't matter, I just wanted to shake her. But when kidnapping happened things picked up for me. I started to enjoy it. Thank you, Ryker, for that. Love you, babe!
And talking about Ryker... He was clouded in mystery. He has so much to tell. Some I guessed right. Some I was wondering about until the end. But at the end all questions were answered. But it didn't changed anything. I already was hooked on Ryker. Well, maybe I loved him even more.

Bit more storyline than I'm used to in my Alexa Riley books. Don't get me wrong it's still packed with Insta love smutty goodness but also some action thrown in.
