I've been watching my sexy neighbor lounge around his back yard in the nude for like three months now. Like a creepy weirdo, I do it with all the lights in my house off, so he won't know I'm there. When I think he is being attacked by wild animals, I run out to save him, shotgun in hand. And that is how I find out about shifters, mates and chosen. I can have babies?! WTF? Also, my gorgeous neighbor thinks I'm his mate. I've lived a life of people being forced to put up with me, when they didn't have a choice. Can I accept this mating, even to the most amazing man I've ever met, if the choice isn't even his?
Barron "Ronny" Franks
I'm a boring, serial-white-t-shirt-wearing, plain-looking grease monkey, who can't quite get over this curious obsession with my neighbor. Even though I'm sure I would have scented if he was my mate over three months ago when he moved in, my leopard and I are stuck on the man. When he tries to save me from my friends, and finds out about shifters, I finally get close enough to the sexy man to smell the truth. He really is my mate. And he's chosen. I couldn't be more happy with the gift I've been given, but his lack of understanding, the added comments of ignorant, bigoted leap members, and the continued investigation of cult activity among my people, might make it impossible for me to claim my sweet Sutton.
If you're looking for something light, quick to-read with insta love and shifters look no further. There is something endearing about this series, I definitely plan on picking the rest up here and there in between other reads. This particular one has two mc's that don't feel like they deserve love. Both pining after the other, unaware the feeling is mutual. Unaware that their true-mate lives right across the street until circumstances finally brings them close enough for scent and insta-love to take it's rightful place. ^_^ I won't deny this isn't perfect, it's OTT, corny at times, simplistic and doesn't have much going for it in terms of plot. But there is just something addictive about it and in the right mood it can hit the spot. I consider this series a palate cleanser, come to it after heavy/dark/gritty reads.
Funny, steamy, romantic and heart-warming, this M/M shifter series continues to deliver short, easy, and entertaining stories that keep me smiling and feeling stress-free throughout.
This go-around, the story opens with alpha-second Barron “Ronny” Franks surprisingly, but elatedly, realizing that the gorgeous and quirky Asian human male, who moved in next door three months ago but whom he’s never actually spoken to, is, in fact, his fated mate.
After discovering that shifters exist, that one of them is his mate, AND that he bears the mark of the “chosen”—a rare male who can birth children—Sutton really should get an award for how smoothly he’s managing the sudden and dramatic shift in his life trajectory, that he frankly never saw coming. But GOOD GAWD is this quirky, southern speaking florist overjoyed to finally be wanted and accepted by someone so wonderful as Ronny. It honestly seems too good to be true, but Sutton really is determined to not let his insecurities ruin what is definitely the greatest thing that’s ever happened to him.
These two get together quickly, as is the norm for this series, but it was still a lot of fun to watch the burly shifter guy go all mushy and desperate for his sassy and neurotic little human mate. Ronny and Sutton were very cute together and I enjoy their story a good deal. I especially enjoyed the romantic set-up for the next book, which promises a spark-filled romance between Sutton’s best-friend, fox shifter Foster, and his adoptive baby brother, Burke.
What should be noted at this point, is that although the stories in this M/M shifter series may feature new mated couples with each subsequent book, they do not read as standalones, with each installment adding to the growing cast and building on the larger story arc (involving the dangerous shifter cult that has already/continues to cause havoc for these shifters and their new mates). I definitely recommend reading in order, should you decide to test this series out for yourself.
I’m liking this series more and more! I’m so glad it has 23 books and the 24th comes out in a few weeks. They’re quite addictive!
Sutton has just found out his sexy neighbor is a real life shifter! He has been watching the sexy man stroll around his yard naked at night for the last 3 months, but he never thought the gorgeous man could like him back.
Ronny has been drawn to his neighbor from the moment he moved in 3 months ago, but somehow Ronny could never really smell the man, so he didn’t think Sutton was his mate. That is until he comes very close and can finally smell him for real. Yes, this is his mate! Now he just needs to convince the adorable man to give him a chance…
Sutton was just adorable. I loved how shy he was around Ronny at first and how he slowly accepted that he really was the mate of this man (or that shifters were real and he could have babies!). And Ronny never thought anyone could really love the real him, the boring t-shirt wearing grease monkey that he is.
The romance was super sweet, and I’m glad there is some plot going on, but nothing that takes over the story. Just enough to keep things interesting.
I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the last one. It was just a bit too cheesy and sweet for me (yes I said that). It’s definitely an easy read with little conflict. But it’s how I like my mate stories.
This book was a light read for me. It's neither good nor bad. I liked that there was some sideline plot development about shifter cult and untraceable poison. I wish there was more information on it because the book was centered on Sutton and Barron's insecurities a little too much.
Sutton is a foster kid. He has commitment issues because his foster parents didn't really care for him. The only person in his life that he loves is his foster brother Burke. So with that in mind when he meets Barron who is his neighbor and finds out they are mates he takes it well.
Barron has his own hang ups. He was always called boring because he only wears white T-shirts and jeans. I personally don't see anything wrong with that - so long that it fits right, who cares what color it is! I guess his boyfriends from before were very shallow!
There is some smexy times - it's nice enough but left no lasting impression on me. Maybe it was because the author had the tendency to use the word d*ck so often while describing the intimacy that I had to skip some pages. Otherwise, it was a little better that the previous books.
Nicknames are tough for me - I'm usually not a fan, especially when it replaces their name for the entirety of the story. So reading "sweet Sutton" over and over was maybe a bit too much.
And there were a lot of insecurities between both Sutton and Barron - Sutton thinks that Barron isn't gay and their fated pairing is just fate, not what he wants. And Barron thinks that Sutton won't want a plain guy who wears white t-shirts everyday. I wish they had just talked it all out early on and there wasn't drama.
Still, I don't know exactly what it is, but there's something about this series and the way the characters are all together that's just fun and makes me want to keep reading!
This is probably my favorite of the 3 so far. Sutton and Ronny are sweet. We're slowly getting to see the mystery aspect of the storyline come together. With all the over-the-top sugary sweetness and possible mPreg for all the Chosens, and even with all the editing issues, I'm pretty much hooked on this series. Onward I go!
Well, this installment of the Chosen series was... hmmmm...
Let's just say that I didn't connect with Sutton and Ronny as much as I did with the two couples before them, but I did enjoy the tangent that the author took us on and look forward to seeing where we go with that!
The improvement in the errors that I was hoping for hasn't happened yet, but I still read in hope! *grin*
Now, let's go see what kind of trouble Foster and Burke can get into! ;D
Sutton is a sweet cute human twink florist who says things like " I think I might love you, pretty naked man." When a bit delirious. Ronny is the responsible leopard shifter lieutenant who is smitten with the human.
It's a fun getting to know you fated mates shifter trope, with a twist thrown in. There's a group of shifters hellbent on world domination and they are eradicating all shifters who don't go along with their plans.

Here we have the third book I read in a row in this series!
Sutton and Ronny. These two had a cute connection. Loved the size difference, the pining, and the way that Sutton took everything in stride. Plus, I LOVE a florist MC so how could I not enjoy this one? I enjoyed how protective Sutton was of Ronny, and how they fit together despite Ronny’s insecurities. I also enjoyed how Sutton was strong on his own, but found a home and protection with the leap.
The sex scenes were good! I think it’s cute how much fated mates have a connection that they can’t help themselves and cum faster than average. Usually someone would see that as a bad thing but there isn’t shaming here. There’s once again talked about switching but none on page. I wish it had been on page!
The background for Sutton was sad (although a bit curious why parents would have such a huge overreaction). Foster wasn’t my favorite person, though he’s the MC of the next book, so hopefully he will make sense in his own book.
The subplot going on in these books is ratcheting up and I was actually enjoying learning about it and how far it will go.
Taking a break for now from the Chosen world, but I will return soon!
To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit. My old 3* is now a 3,5* and clicked with a 4*):
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Spying on your very naked, very hot neighbor isn't wrong, is it?
This series keeps getting better. The characters are amazing. The world is so alive, you feel you belong there. From the diner to the leap, our old friends are back. More Chosen are revealed. The cult danger becomes real. Loyal friends heed the call. I am so loving this series! Sutton's flower shop holds a secret; one that masks his scent. For three months he has watched his next door neighbor run around in ther nude, drooling over him. Barron, known as Ronny, is attracted to Sutton, but can't smell him. When a chance circumstance brings Sutton into Barron's arms, his scent is overwhelming. Barron's leopard screams Mine! Mate! The cult that wants to eliminate the "weak" shifters comes after Sutton, a Chosen. The men of the leap will have to act to protect their mates. Come along for the ride! You will love this book! I recommend reading the first two books in order. You will be glad you did. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
There has ben a fox sniffing around lately but his scent is faint and disappears almost magically. The other shifters wonder if perhaps he is mixed up in the mess that their alphas old second and the others that have left are in. It seems to be a cult of some kind. Ron sits on his porch ogling the new human as he works in his flowers every day. Sutton watches the man parade around nude or half nude. One day Thompsyn and Barret show up and Sutton happens to be peeking out watching Rona and freaks out. When Ron gets close e realizes Sutton is his mate. This is such a fun story. I love all the characters and the story is good too. I do feel like this one you have to have at least read the Grumpy Old Bear so I suggest this box set to get them all in order.
If at all possible, get this in audio. Kenneth obi brings this character to life with such sweet and sexy voices that distinguish them and the inflictions to each sentence and action really sparks the story. I can’t wait to start the next bundle.
I believe that I've become hooked on this series. I liked how the story focuses mainly on the relationship between Sutton, and Barron Franks (name reminds me of a brand of hot dogs), with a background story developing, and a bit of danger involved. I enjoy not having to read about a mate being tortured to the death for a change. The shifter is there to save them before that can happen, so far, and I definitely appreciate that aspect of the story line. Sutton was adorable with some of the past characters as they explained to him everything he needed to know about shifters and being mated. I just love the back and forth banter between some of these guys and I can't wait to read more about them as they find their mates (the unmated ones, of course) as well as some of the humor that makes this series so delightful. =)
*WARNING* contains explicit adult m/m sexual situations Sutton sits in his room every night in the dark to watch his neighbor walk around his back yard naked. Sutton stays hidden because he's sure his gorgeous neighbor wants kill him or something, the neighbor never smiles. Barron can not figure out why he is drawn to his sexy little neighbor. Barron's inner animal should be able to tell if he is their mate by smell, but they only ever smell sun screen. This short story of two men finding each other is just very sweet. There is an under lying problem that seems to have started in book one, so we get a little more information about that. If you're looking for a quick, easy, little, adult, PNR with a HEA, this will work.
This was another good read I have to say that I have jumped back and forth reading these book's I started off with Hot stuff than went to just Riley . I this date. I've read almost all of these book's . But I still have some left too read for me I tend to go g read because you always want to get to the next book in the series and the next couple . I've read like three book's today now I'm gonna wait for a little while and finish the ones that I haven't read get Lol .
I'm hoping what I am about to say does NOT come off as cruel. This shifter series is ... cute. Epic ... no. More sex than story plot requires, I think. Insta-love at its finest... and phew ... really quick in this one. (Guess that's the point of insta-love though) Being this is the 3rd one in the series I'd hoped for better than the last 2. It was not. HOWEVER, bc it is cute, bc I like to see each get their own so I will probably continue. I like it enough to. Probably sparingly though. 30 books and box sets will make that easy enough for me to do.
This is a solid addition to the series. I didn't like it quite as much as Bennet and Thompsyn's story but I honestly think some of that was due too the terrible editing. There really were a lot of errors. I still think it's worth reading though. I love the interaction between the characters and Sutton is sweet as billed but he's also spunky which I totally adore. I am looking forward to the next book but hope the editing is better.
JD Light writes another good book in the Chosen Series. Sweet Sutton is sweet and full of some fluff. A bit more angst in this story line than the other books so far. An element of evil is in the mix and a few brushes with bad guys. I'm sure future books will continue to tell the story. Old characters are in this book so you must read the other books if you want to know their story.
I'm loving the sweetness in this book. It's my favorite type. I love that the alphas aren't afraid to show a little emotion. I do wish there was more mpreg aspects, though. It's talked about but has yet happened. All these books are falling short for me but I still love them. On to the next one.
If watch my naked hot neighbor too if he looked this good....
Love this series....
This book is another sweet and funny installment of The Chosen series by J.D.Light. I am loving watching these shifters meet their chosen and I am intrigued by the carryover plot... Who is part of that plot with the cult? Off to binge read the other books. Definitely recommend.
These two are so cute, lusting after each other without the other knowing or getting found out. Until one night when it all comes to light. It's great having open minded people when you have to explain the shifter life or maybe it was the overwhelming lust factor that helped.
