What in the hell did I just read?!? This was too all over the place and quite frankly a good portion of it didn’t even make sense. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue the series or just drop it at this point. I was fond of volumes 1-3 but this volume feels so drastically different from the rest. The constant changing of timelines, the introduction of new characters that didn’t really fit the story, strange writing just made for a horrible reading experience.

3,5 Entretenido y agradable de leer, pero se queda a medio camino.
Puntos a favor: El dibujo es PRECIOSO, es lo mejor sin duda de la novela. También me han gustado los protagonistas, muy cuquis. Y la mezcla de ser adorable y tierno, pero mostrando también la sexualidad de los protagonistas, me ha parecido un total acierto.
Puntos en contra: La trama tiene poca chica. La primera solo tiene un tomo y es en la parte en la que suceden muchas cosas interesantes en demasiado poco espacio. La segunda parte consta de 3 tomos y sin embargo pasan menos cosas que en la primera parte. Deberían haber sido al contrario.
En definitiva, me ha gustado, pero no me ha matado. Un pena. Aún así me gustaría leer más cositas de esta mangaka.

idk why i continued after feeling meh about the third book, but here i am and wow did this one feel like a fever dream.
also, i thought mio was annoyed by the way that wada had rejected shun back in high school, but apparently he’s just annoyed that shun had a friend at all? sure, okay. makes sense.
but supposedly mio is getting better at sex, i guess, so yay for that. (i mean, i didn’t see it, but shun said it was good so that’s improvement in itself.)
and what the heck is happening to fumi ???? pls no

2.5* As others have said this was chaotic. I’m not even sure there was plot here. It was gibberish. Literally got stars for the cover and ending.

A brilliant three-volume series by Kanna Kii.
Realistic without being crass, dreamy without being abstract, L'étranger du zéphyr builds up the story and relationship between Mio and Shun with a wealth of gentle touches, a generous dose of melancholy and a nice pinch of irony.
The change of location from the prequel (the equally lovely L'étranger de la plage ) contributes to expanding Mio and Shun's interaction with secondary characters and a wider social circle.
The mangaka develops their characters in a very convincing manner and I truly enjoyed accompanying them in their journey of discovery and maturation.
Highly recommended!

Me ha encantado, mi favorito hasta la fecha. La trama ha avanzado UN MONTÓN y el último capítulo se marca un plottwist que no me veía venir PARA NADA. Estoy deseando ponerme con el siguiente, pero me da pena porque es el último tomo publicado. Cada vez les estoy cogiendo más cariño a Shun y Mio, su relación es más bonita a cada tomo y me encanta lo lelos que son. Entre ellos y Fumi me río un montón. Eso sí, me gustaría que se explicasen algunas cositas que están por ahí colgando. Unas se explicaron muy bien en la peli y aquí las han comentado de pasada, otras son completamente nuevas. Ah, y en este tomo apenas hay escenas explícitas hehe.

This volume was very all over the place. Timelines jumped around, characters came in and out and while quite a bit happened, nothing happened? So far this has been the most disappointing in terms of story, and I hope the next one is a bit better

Starts out cute, but the story kept jumping around and never tidying up all the places it left off. So much that the writing became incoherent.

Tenía muchísimas ganas de leer este tomo, ya que Shun y Mio se han colado en mi corazón desde el inicio y ya los considero como a seres queridos por los que me preocupo. Por que sí, como es habitual en Shun, su inseguridad y sus miedos mal disimulados salen a la luz de vez en cuando, pero Mio persiste en que no tiene que preocuparse por lo que piense el resto, sino por lo que quieren ellos dos.
Debo decir que he notado un cambio en este tomo a diferencia de los anteriores. Estoy acostumbrada a que Shun y Mio se tomen con mucha calma el hablar de lo que realmente sienten, así de como están viviendo los nuevos cambios. En este tomo, en mi opinión, han sido pocos los momentos en que ambos comparten un momento íntimo de esta índole. Y ya no hablemos de los momentos románticos, porque Fumi sigue siendo tan inesperado como siempre.
En general, he notado que han pasado muchas cosas importantes de repente. Además de que a Shun se le nota bastante que los acontecimientos inoportunos no son de su gusto.
No digo que el tomo no me haya gustado, porque sería mentir. Sin embargo, me ha llamado la atención que en este tomo se junten tantos acontecimientos importantes, dejando de lado lo que puedan sentir los personajes en referencia a ello. Además, el final de este tomo te deja bastante contrariado, al menos a mí me ha pasado, porque no me lo esperaba para nada.
A pesar de ello, me a hecho muy feliz volver a leerlos. Ver las caras de Shun cuando algo no es de su agrado, y no lo disimula, el entusiasmo innato de Mio con cada cosa nueva que hace, y su relación que se va fortaleciendo poco a poco, con momentos cotidianos, pero llenos de cariño y dulzura.
En resumen, he disfrutado de este tomo tan esperado, alegrándome por los nuevos cambios de los personajes y riendo con alguna intervención inesperada. Lo único que me ha chocado es que haya sido un tomo más rápido, con mucho movimiento y poca reflexión entre los protagonistas. Aun así, tengo muchas ganas de saber que me depara el siguiente tomo, porque no puede quedarse así.

Art style is one of my favourites ever, of course I loved the art.
Shun and Mio are adorable.
The story was kind of jumping around, and I don’t know how comfortable I am with the idea of 5 whole years going by, and Fumi- 1. growing up and 2. being homophobic. I adore Fumi, I’m literally so scared of him being an asshole, please NO! That moves this volume down for me. I know there aren’t a lot of ways to take a slice of life story like this, but I think the plot is getting a bit disorganized. From volume 1 to now, Shun and Mio have fallen in love, moved in with Shun’s parents (importantly, Shun’s homophobic father) and adopted little brother Fumi, both bonded with Fumi, Shun’s old classmate/crush befriends Mio, Shun has a mid-life crisis and suddenly becomes a famous writer… it’s all a bit detached. I mean, that’s life, but life doesn’t necessarily work for the plot of a series of manga.
Don’t get me wrong, this is one of my favourite manga series ever, and I’ll probably give every volume a 4 or 5 stars, but it has it’s faults. The first volume will always be my favourite, the second one was good too, but it’s just spiraling a bit. I hope Kanna can wrap things up with Shun and his father, Mio and his past trauma, have a good relationship with Fumi, and make their way back to the island to live “happily ever after.” The island life/aesthetic was the original pull of the series, well, volume 1 at least, and I want to go back to that at some point. I miss it.
Either way, I adore Shun and Mio, and I just want them to be happy.

En realidad un 3,5.
Este ha sido mi tomo menos preferido hasta ahora, pero eso no quiere decir que no lo haya disfrutado. Me ha gustado y me ha entretenido, pero no ha llegado ni por asomo al listón de los demás, pero aun así me ha gustado.
Quizás no me ha gustado tanto como los otros porque cada vez la historia se va centrando menos en la relación entre Mio y Shun y se va centrando más en sus vidas, cosa que ha hecho que los personajes sean cada vez más complejos y profundos, pero me gustaría ver más de amor entre los protagonistas, y no me refiero a sexo, sino que se cojan de la mano o se abracen, como hacían antes.
Por supuesto los personajes son muy reales, cosa que me gusta mucho, y el dibujo me encanta (no me gusta juzgar un manga por su dibujo, pero en este caso era un dato por mencionar).
Y sobre el final, cuando lo leí me quedé en plan:"¿Quéeeeeeeee?", del giro que pega. Es un final abierto, pero que no te deja con desazón, lo que ha hecho que corten esta serie y que la siguiente tenga el nombre de "Un extraño de paseo", el cual tengo ganas de leer.

La precuela de esta saga (un extraño a las orillas del mar) me encantó ASÍ QUE NO ENTIENDO QUÉ HA PASADO PARA QUE ESTA PARTE NO ME ESTÉ GUSTANDO CASI. Tipo, sí, es interesante, pero es que tengo tantos problemas...
1. Yo sé como se lleva el tema LGBTIQ+ en la mayoría de mangas japoneses (mal) así que no suelo pedir tampoco que esté todo perfecto, me conformo con que no vayan a los estereotipos ni demás. Y si bien es cierto que aquí algo que me gusta es que los protas tienen personalidades creíbles, hay ciertos temas que siento que no han reflejado nada bien, sobre todo el tema +18.
2. Shun no aporta nada. Quizá esto sea percepción mía, pero es que no puedo verlo de otra forma. Se ha pasado 3 tomos lidiando con su problema de escritor y, posiblemente, su depresión (que si lo es, tampoco se lleva bien); abordar esto me parece genial, siempre que sirva para mover la trama, que recordemos es de ROMANCE. ¿Qué tenemos en cambio? Tres tomos en donde Mio prácticamente saca la relación él solo adelante porque no hay comunicación, en donde Shun no parece preocuparse por la pareja y en donde las interacciones entre ambos como mucho ocupan la mitad del libro. Repito, estos problemas me parece genial meterlo en mangas siempre que se traten bien. Si tu saga es de 4 tomos y sabes que no te va a dar tiempo, no veo para qué añadirlo si pasa como ahora que se quedan cortas ambas tramas.
3. Escenas como la del hermano pequeño ¿?
En fin, no entiendo como un libro con una precuela preciosa, con personajes con química y personalidad, termina en algo que, para mí, le falta toda la chispa. Aunque el último tomo me guste, ya sé que más de 3 estrellas no va a tener esta serie.

Was ich am Zeichenstil besonders mag, sind die vielen Hintergründe. Die Charakterdesigns sind irgendwas zwischen skizzenhaft angehaucht und detailliert. Er ist nicht schlecht, aber trifft auch nicht 100% meinen Geschmack.
Protagonisten
Shun ist von zu Hause geflüchtet, um einer Beziehung zu entkommen. Zudem ist er oft verunsichert wegen seiner Sexualität. Nun lebt er auf Okinawa und ist Schriftsteller. Er ist vom Typ her eher reserviert und tut sich schwer Gefühle zu zeigen.
Mio sitzt jeden Tag nach der Schule auf einer Bank und starrt aufs Meer. Doch plötzlich muss dieser die Insel verlassen. Doch er scheint für seine Überzeugungen einzustehen. Emotionen sprudeln nur soa us ihm heraus. Außerdem ist er ausgelassen und unbeschwert.
Fazit
Obwohl ich das Ende ganz furchtbar finde, so ist der ritte Band dennoch wenigstens etwas aktionreicher als seine Vorgänger.
Ich habe diese Reihe gelesen, weil ich nur gutes davon hörte. Meiner Meinung nach gibt es hier allerdings massenweise verschenktes Potential.
Der Grundgedanke ist niedlich, aber die Umsetzung leider nicht so meins.

the first chapter (parent observation day) shows how cruel children (Chiho) can be. And yet only Fumi gets reprimanded (hello gender stereotypes: Boys shouldn't hit girls. But it's okay for boys to hit boys? What the actual fuck, Mio? Girls think they can cry easily and whenever they want (wtf Shun? He gets hit for it)), this was not handled well at all. At least her step-dad made Chiho apologise too, not that she actually did.

This volume is sort of a mess. The flashbacks just collide with the story and it's here and there and can be confusing at times.
They are still living in the city and I have to say that I like the story better when they were at the seaside. I want them to go back to the seaside.
The best part of the book is when our two characters go to his brothers family day at school and everyone wonders why he brother his 'friend' with him. But even that is sort of messy. I just find it difficult to follow the story telling. It's herky-jerky.
I am going to finish this series, but it's not one of my favorite. I think there is a good story there, it's just not told well. I hear there is a TV show and I would love to see that. I think it would shine. There is a good story in there, it just needs someone better to tell it.

I am going to finish this series, but it's not one of my favorite. I think there is a good story there, it's just not told well. I hear there is a TV show and I would love to see that. I think it would shine. There is a good story in there, it just needs someone better to tell it.

Sel de mer et découvertes
Dans ce troisième tome, Shun et Mio doivent se rendre à la journée des parents d’élèves de Fumo puisque la maman et le papa sont tous les deux malades.
C’est l’occasion de faire connaissance avec des anciens camarades de Shun pour Mio…et pour Shun c’est l’occasion de bien angoisser rien qu’à cette idée!
Kii Kanna nous offre une suite de l’histoire toute en douceur, de quoi continuer d’explorer cette relation et les enjeux, mais aussi de l’ouvrir à l’inconnu. La solitude touche Shun et Mio, mais sans avoir les mêmes raisons et les mêmes conséquences. C’est le doute et le stress de la vie de jeune adulte qui est proposée dans ce tome toujours aussi beau et émouvant.

Okay. I think I enjoyed this more than the previous volume. Dealing with Fumi's feelings about family and that little girl's own insecurities about hers seemed easier than dealing with Shun and Mio. However, I can say I felt a bit better seeing them talking a bit about things. Mio being jealous about Shun's past, for example.
I laughed everything Sakurako joined them. Shun now is super famous and people go after his life mostly because he is gay. I think what I liked the most about this volume was that honest depiction of how people deal with something that is different than the norm; curiousity, fear, disgust, anger. Usually, they either see it as a new form of entertainment and something to gossip about, or outright demonize it because they can't understand it.
