DEAD RECKONING (Northstar Security #2) by Stanalei Fletcher is a fast paced, action packed romantic suspense with amnesia, a hurricane, the Russian Mafia, a Northstar operative, who is an ex-SEAL and a juvenile infatuation turning into mature love. This book is part of a series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Kellee O’Neal has amnesia and is a refugee from a hurricane destroying her home in Florida. She is afraid, but doesn’t know why. When a man approaches and seems to know her, she reluctantly follows because he says he works for her father and can take her home. As her memory slowly begins to return she remembers her juvenile crush on this man, but she is grown now and wants him to see her that way.
Egan Maddox is asked by Kellee’s father, the director of Northstar Security to locate Kellee since he hasn’t heard from her since the storm and hide her away from a threat from his past. Dealing with a girl he is both attracted to and responsible for, without her total trust is trouble waiting to happen.
Neither Egan nor Kellee know the true threat searching for them and the unknown secrets from the past can get them both killed. The Russian Mafia is closing in and Kellee is going to have to have to face truths about her family and hope her love for Egan is strong enough to carry her through.
This is a well written romantic suspense that has some surprising twists well placed in the plot. The romance is well paced and believable. The sexual tension is high between these two and is well written because it doesn’t feel like a tease or get overplayed. At times, some of the secondary characters seemed like caricatures and I did not stay completely in the story. It was a good read otherwise and I will continue with this author and series.

I have to say that I anxiously anticipated Dead Reckoning and could not wait to get my hands on it. I so enjoyed the first book in the series I just could not wait to see what Stanalei Fletcher would come up with for book two. Every anxious moments and my incredible anticipation were well warranted. Dead Reckoning meet all my expectation and exceeded several. It's an incredible story with a whole lot of suspense, plenty of drama, a page turning mystery, and a wonderful romance story.
Kellee O'Neal is one intelligent, determined, strong willed lady that can kick rear end when need be. Kellee has been well trained in the security and investigation field by her Dad's crew. When she is caught in a dangerous situation, in the midst of a hurricane no less, even with all her training things still go horribly wrong. Kellee has no clue who she is where home is, or who her family is. She is on a bus of hurricane evacuees when Egan locates her.
Egan Maddox is ask by his boss to locate a very precious person, his daughter. Egan has to gain Kellee's trust when he does find her. She feels a connection but doesn't remember exactly who he is. When certain memories hit she knows this is a man she can trust with her life, despite the fact she doesn't remember her life at all or her family. She doesn't know why she feels as though she is in danger, she just feels that trouble is lurking.
Egan and Kellee work well together through many dangerous situations. They uncover mysteries that leaves Kellee with a lot of questions to her life. Now she not only does she not remember her life she questions what memories are true and what facts are right.
Stanalei Fletcher has done a fabulous job of creating charming characters with intriguing stories that had me flipping the pages just as quickly as I could. I waited with bated breath wondering how Kellee and Egan would get out of each situation. I hung on to the wild ride around each corner and twist to see what was going to happen next and what piece of information would be revealed to the mystery.
I really enjoyed watching Kellee and Egan discover they had deep feelings for each other. They have an incredible attraction to each other that is hot. Their Romance bloomes even through all the dangerous situations and secrets they uncover. Their past relationship makes their romance together just as sweet as their passion is hot.
I fell in love with Ms. Fletcher's work with the first book in the Northstar Security series and I'm even more addicted now. This talented lady does a fabulous job at romantic suspense. I can not wait to see what creative story she has in store for us next. I will be impatiently awaiting the next book in this series. Each of books will stand alone by itself just fine. You will not be missing any important details to take away from your joy of reading if you have not read the first book. However it is really awesome too so you may want to pick them both up and devour them as I did.
I was given the opportunity to read this fabulous story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Dead Reckoning.
Kellee is caught in a storm when a stranger comes to take her to her “real” dad who is a Russian mob boss. She doesn’t believe the intruder and since everyone has evacuated do to the storm she has no one to get help from. He pulls a knife and since she has had some self- defense classes he winds up getting stabbed. She gets caught out in the storm and hits her head. She loses her memory and is wandering around when a girl, Tresha comes to her aid. Tresha names her Missy because Kellee doesn’t know who she is. Missy aka Kellee feels she is being followed so every guy looks suspicious to her.
Egan catches up with her and she tries to remember him but she doesn’t. He had trained her in self-defense when he worked for Northstar Securities and some of her memories start returning very slowly. She does feel safe with him. She is a woman know and Egan fights his feelings for her knowing she has amnesia. He still wonders what is up with her dad and why he wanted him to hide away with her.
As this story unravels you find out many things about Kellee’s dad. Byron O’Neal has many secrets to hide and Kellee finds out her life is all a lie. She confronts her mob boss dad and he only wants her so no other mob family can use her against him. Real love not even close. Kellee needs Egan to help her sort through all this information. She is on overload and doesn’t want to deal with either her dad or the mob boss.
I really liked this story. Egan was true to his word and found Kellee and protected her. Kellee has always had a thing for Egan and now she is old enough to be able to act on it. Read this story to find out what happens between Egan and Kellee. Also what happens to the Russian mob boss?
I would like to start by stating this book was a good story.....but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I think my biggest problem was that Kellee had amnesia and it was hard to get a handle on who she was and how different she became after she hit her head. Egan was just an ass through out the book he keep with the hot and cold routine with Kellee it really upset me but most of all it took kellee so long to get a back bone when dealing with Egan. Egan was sent to keep Kellee safe from an unknown enemy.....an enemy that is a big surprise for Kellee. I get that he needs to keep a leave head to protect her but come on! Egan pushes her away so she decides to change his mind about having so fun with her and boy does she get under his skin. so all and all for me the story line is good but I didn't really feel the need to know what happened next. for me this book is more of a filler book. a book to read in between a book you can't wait to read. with that being said I would still read this author because the story is good not omg good but good none the less.
Stanalei Fletcher does it again, filling book two of the Northstar Security Series with thrilling action and romance . Kellee is caught in a hurricane and loses her memory. Egan works for Northstar Security, specifically Kellee's father and is sent to find and protect her from impending danger. When he finds her, she has no recollection of him, but feels safe with him. But what is protecting her from? When Kellee finds out what and who, all hell is about to break loose. Fletcher writes with style, giving Kellee qualities of strength and courage to face being displaced by the hurricane with amnesia, and at the same time the frustration of trying to remember. Egan maintains a coolness about him, with finesse and intelligence, he can handle any situation, except his attraction to Kellee. Their slow burn love is about to combust, but will it be too late? High suspense, passionate love and twists and turns to keep the action flowing, this story has it all.
The narration of the series continues with Charles Henderson Norman, with his many voices. This one includes a Russian accent that he performs with precision. His flow is well paced giving the action a thrill and the love warmth and passion.
Kelly is a PI living in FL when a hurricane is about to reach land. Her plans to evacuate are halted when a man barges into her apart and attempts to kidnap her. After a struggle, Kelly kills the man and races into the storm. Days later, Egan is summoned to his job and is assigned the task of locating the boss’ missing daughter...yep, Kelly! When Egan finally locates Kelly with FL evacuees, she has temporary amnesia. Follow Egan, as he tries to protect Kelly from unknown assailants, as well as struggle with his attraction to the little spitfire. Lots of bad guys and drama. Great story and narration! I actually enjoyed this book more than book 1. Looking forward to the next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
When byron o'neals daughter went missing after a hurricane evacuation , byron asked the only man he knew to find her and keep her safe and hidden. The day kelee was to evacuate some stranger triedto kidnapp her and ended up with no memory. At the same time egan didnt understand whatwas going on first byron limited info and then kelee running away from him. This book is well written and for sure full of surprises.
Dead Reckoning: to navigate by deduction through knowledge of current position, speed, and heading
This is the second story in Stanalei Fletcher’s Northstar Security series and I have to say I’m enjoying the series. These are well-written romantic suspense books with strong women. Kellee O’Neal is a kick-ass heroine, even if she hadn’t planned to be. As Northstar Security chief Byron O’Neal’s daughter, Kellee aspired to follow in her father’s, and now her brother’s, footsteps. She trained in martial arts with Egan Maddox when she was younger, hoping that once she was old enough she could go into the security service. Maddox affectionately called her ‘Sweet Kellee’ and although she had a crush on him, he was entirely proper with her. (For the record, I’m a little tired of ex-Navy SEALs, but I don’t blame Ms. Fletcher for choosing that career for Maddox.)
When Kellee is old enough to join the family business, instead of being welcomed, her father sends her down to Florida to assist a private investigation firm. She is supposed to be safe from danger and probably would have been if not for Hurricane Igor and the thug who turns up at her door at the height of the storm.
Egan Maddox is a Northstar agent who is currently out of favour with Byron O’Neal, so he is surprised when he is summoned to the boss’ office. By the end of the meeting, he’s been tasked with finding Kellee and keeping her safe. Sounds simple, right?
Well, tracking down one woman in a sea of storm refugees trekking in convoys inland is a challenge. Of course, he assumes he is tracking a woman who wants to be found.
And who knows who she is. Amnesia is a pain.
Eventually he does find Kellee, but all is not as he expected. From the unexpected occupant in her apartment, to her confusing reaction to him, Maddox feels a step behind the looming but unknown threat.
For those of us who grew up during the Cold War, the Russians were the enemy. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, there has been a public relations campaign to try to rehabilitate the image of the former Soviet Union. Capitalism? Check. Tourism? You bet. Mafia? Uh…
Yep. There are always men and women who will do immoral and illegal activities. Their motives are sometimes simple – wealth, patriotism, no regard for other humans. Other criminals are pushed by more nuanced reasons.
Those subtle differences are what makes this thriller different than others. The lead Russian mobster isn’t traditional and given the current political climate, it wound up being providential that Ms. Fletcher chose them to be the bad guys in the book. Written in 2015, before the election meddling, the story is relevant today, perhaps even more so.
Charles Henderson Norman is a good narrator for this book. There are a large number of rough and gruff men – Russians included. His narration style works well. His female characters’ voices are slightly irritating, but I am warming to him as the series continues. As romantic suspense goes, these books fit the bill. The next book features Kellee’s brother Riley and I can’t wait.

Review:
What a fun read from the first page to the last it keeps you intrigued and wanting to know the truth and what happens when Kellee finds out the truth. The is one of those reads where you don’t just connect with one character, but both of the main characters Egan and Kellee. You feel the sexual tension between them from the start and are pulling for them to become a couple. From the start, you can tell Kellee is a strong young woman who knows how to handle herself, and she shows it repeatedly throughout the story. Egan is portrayed as a tough guy from the start, with him being ex-Navy seal. Although it is obvious that Kellee is a soft spot and around her, he makes mistakes.
This is a well-written story, and the editing is spot on. I didn’t find any errors or if there is any, they don’t stick out and make it hard to read. The flow is great; you don’t feel that anything is being left out as it does when it’s to fast pace. The length is perfect .
Conclusion:
Would you recommend this book to others? YES
Would you read other books by this Author? YES
Is this book a Novel or Novella? Nice length Novel
Is this book priced correctly? Yes… It’s on the top end of what I’d pay for an ebook since I’m a budget buyer.
DEAD RECKONING is the second book in the Northstar Security series. They each stand completely on their own and can be read in any order.
Hurricane Igor, amnesia, the Russian mafia, and sexual tension all kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I lost count of the number of times I held my breath in this story! This is not a good thing when you are driving- LOL.
It starts out with a hurricane; not one of my favorite things in the world since I do live in Florida. Kellee’s life spins out of control from there until she finds her anchor, Egan. I loved that even then she didn’t make it easy on him and he didn’t make it easy for her either.
I loved that Kellee was a strong young lady. She was resourceful, smart, and independent. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and face the consequences of her decisions. With Egan, she is fierce and just as determined as he is. This girl is not going to just say “yes, Sir.” He better have a reason for his orders or she isn’t going to jump. She is my hero!
I was rooting for Egan from the minute he fussed at Kellee’s father. Can you tell I have a bit of the rebel in me? I’ll pretty much do as you ask, as long as you have a good reason, but “because I said so” isn’t a reason. Still, you can tell he has a soft spot for his Sweet Kellee and he only needs to know she is missing to start jumping. Isn’t that sweet, too?
The suspense was fantastic, entertaining, and well executed.
Narration: The narrator, Charles Norman, is like listening to a favorite uncle tell a story. (Mine was named Uncle Wib.) I could listen to him for hours and hours. His name on a book would be a positive factor in choosing it for purchase!
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: DEAD RECKONING Series: Northstar Security #2 Category /Genre: Suspense, Thriller Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Listenability: NSFW Received from: Stanalei Fletcher (as an Audible gifted copy)
When Byron O’Neil’s daughter Kellee goes missing from her apartment and doesn’t contact him after a hurricane hits, he has reason to believe that a secret from the past is finally catching up with him. And that his daughter might be in serious danger.
He asks Egan Maddox to find his daughter and keep her safe. Egan agrees but is not sure if he is the right person for the job and fears his feelings for Kellee might get him into more trouble than he can handle.
When Egan finds Kellee she is suffering from memory loss and is anxious, believing that somebody wants to hurt her. She doesn’t really remember Egan but somehow he seems familiar, so she decides to let him help her. Together they set out to recover her memories and find out the truth about what happened to her.
The story was very suspenseful from the get go and pace was good. The plot was well developed and flowed with the right amount of action to captivate. The characters were realistic and their actions suited their personalities. Kellee’s memory condition was portrayed very realistically, not over the top. You could feel her frustration about not being able to remember what happened to her. The sexual tension between Kellee and Egan added an extra layer of intrigue to the story.
This is the second book in the North Star Security series but each book can be read as a standalone.
Overall, a good book with a mixture of action, romance and a few twists that keep it suspenseful right up to the end.

Dead Reckoning is the second book in what I hope will be more as each one is better than the last one.
Kellee is Byron O'Neal's daughter who is the owner and director of Northstar and is missing . Her father calls Egan Maddox into the office to find his daughter who has been missing since Hurricane Igor hit Florida. But there seems to be some rather important information missing specifically that the Russian Mob is after Kellee and because of a failed attack and she now has amnesia and is on the run.
Egan goes to Georgia to find Kellee, who has been evacuated by a relief agency but when he finally finds her, he has to convince her that he is someone she knows and will keep her safe. They go on the run, all along being tracked by not one but two different Russian mobsters. Without giving away to much of plot, Kellee falls hard for Egan, who is trying hard not to get involved because after all she is his bosses daughter. But Kellee eventually wears him down and they realize that they can become a couple. She regains her memory and finds out that there are alot of secrets in her family has neglected to tell her and with Egan's love they can work things out together.
The ending kind of leaves the book open to another book and I'll be waiting anxiously to see what else Northstar Securities has in store for this reader.
I had read book three of this series, and loved it, so when I came across this one, I hoped it would be another winner, and it was. If you enjoy strong male and female characters, an engaging plot line, suspense, complexity in the intrigue, Russian mafia and of course, romance, this one is for you. The premise of the story is that the man in charge of Northstar Securities, Byron O’Neil, asks Egan, an ex-Seal, to find his missing daughter. He is struggling with this request, since he has had feelings forever for Kellee. Kellee also had a crush on him. She is now caught in a storm and to makes things worse, is kidnapped. I loved her resourcefulness , even when after an accident she develops amnesia. Needless to say, when Egan finds her, she doesn’t recognize him , and that’s when things get more complex. Things that were thought to be true in her life, are not, there is a gray area of right and wrong, and never a dull moment in this dynamic story. So be prepared for a rollercoaster ride. I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Have it in Audio This is a great mystery listen. Full of Intense Action . This one will have you glued to the story from the beginning to the end . Heroine is Kellie and Hero is Egan Egan has been attracted to Kellie for years but he knows she’s off limit since she’s the directors daughter. He has been watching her from afar till the director gives him a direct order. Protect her at all costs . Kellie finds out that her life has been a lie for years. She doesn’t know what to do with the information that she learns. The narrator Chas was great. He brought this story to life. First I heard from him
I really enjoyed this one. First time reading a book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of this story. "Girl falls for her bodyguard" plot is fairly common, there's so much more found within these pages. Although it is the 2nd of the series, what's unique about this story is I didn't feel like there were any gaps due to me not having read the 1st book in the series yet.
Kellee is headstrong, Egan is a drill sergeant, Byron loves his child, Nikolai is KGB (enough said) and they all deal with crooks to keep her safe.
Goodreads win. Will read and review once received.
I am always unsure when it comes to these sorts of books. I always feel I will hate them but I end up finding myself wanting to read them. This book was quite good. It had my attention and the characters were lovely. The author did a great job of this story. The ending of the book definitely left me wanting more. I can't wait to see what will happen next in this book series.
This has to be one of my favorite reads this year. The story line was a very suspenseful, but even with a complex plot, it flowed and I was disappointed to read the last page.
I loved that the heroine was so resourceful. Maybe not knowing why she did it, but knowing it was the best for her. (Sorry, no spoilers.) I read this out of order, but didn't realize it until I found the author's page on Amazon.
Dead Reckoning: I loved the whole aspect of the story! Loved the surprise throughout the whole story! The characters were fantastic! Loved the romance and the challenges that happened. They were very strong characters and that's what I really loved about the story!
Kellee is missing with no memory and needs Eagan, sent by her father, to be her protector against the danger of her past. Good suspense and story line in this 2nd book in the northstar security series
ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Kellee is caught up in a storm and a kidnapping. She struggles with the man trying to kidnap her and accidently kills him. As she is running away in the middle of a storm, she hits her head and doesn't remember anything. Kellee's dad asked Egan to find his daughter and keep her safe. No more information than that. She just needs to disappear. Once Egan finds her, she doesn't know who he is and isn't about to go anywhere with a stranger. Slowly Kellee's memory returns, but there are so many things about her life that is a big revelation to her. Her life isn't what she thought. Egan is just trying to keep her alive and trying to keep himself in check where she is concerned. He wants more, but not sure if he deserves it.
I sat down to read this today and next thing I knew I was done. This book had wonderful characters. Kellee and Egan were great. This book was easy to read and to follow. The plot kept me interested from beginning till the end. Overall I would say great book all around.I read this book for Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review
