SUMMARY
Bitch was going to pay. Thought she could prance into town and convince wives to leave their husbands. No respect for marriage. No respect for the natural order of things. No respect for a man’s rights. Doing the devil’s work, that one. She wasn’t going to get away with it.

Hang ups, porch light unscrewed, vegetable garden ripped up, profanity sprayed on her garage, and the sheriff does nothing. He claims it's teenagers. Amber knows better. She's a social worker in Oklahoma, counseling women abused by their partners.

Wade finally finds JD to thank him for saving his life. JD asks for his help. Saturday Wade helps JD's family clean up the debris from the bomb in their cabin. Wade finagles a tour of the lake Amber lives by, and manages to give her a ride home. This is the help JD asked for.

Amber's home and car have been thoroughly vandalized inside and out. Wade turns off the tub before it overflows. Amber finds all her clothes cut into strips, placed on the center of her bed. Boots, her cat, is missing.

EVALUATION
Warning: this book has a lot of domestic violence described in it, some as it's happening.

I didn't think the author could continue giving us suspense like she did in Out of Hiding. I was so wrong! The prolog shows us what evil our heroes fight, and we get Amber's and Wade's perspectives sprinkled with the villain's reaction. Amber counsels so many women in so many situations. In Out of Hiding, Amber says, “I’m doing outpatient counseling for battered women in Oak Hill, where men are still men and women are still property." The villain hates her for it.

Here's the crux of the romance struggle: "He did not want daily reminders of the nightmare that had been his childhood and she was driven to help the women and their children who lived those very horrors."

All in all, a very satisfying read. And eye opening.

RECOMMENDATION
Everyone who likes suspense with a touch of romance. This is not for people with domestic violence triggers.

FAVORITE QUOTES
“When you make a fist and you hit what you’re aiming at, you haven’t lost control. Has he ever ‘lost control’ at work? At church? At the park?”

Her words felt heavy as rocks as she dropped them one by one into the pond of silence.

Who really knew what went on behind the closed doors of someone else’s house?

Sometimes the ugliness of what human beings did to other human beings made her heart hurt and at other times the courage and resiliency she witnessed every day made her spirit soar.

Like a rock skimming the surface of a pond, his thoughts skipped from one memory to the next.

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS)
Sex: not described
Language: 0 F words, 30 Lord's name in vain, 6 S words
Violence: vandalism, intruders, listening to family being threatened by husband, continuous evidence of spousal abuse, arson, murders, animal mutilation, threats

Into the Fire is book two in the Seeking Sanctuary by Catherine Sue Morgan. Social worker and counsellor Amber Burke look after battered women in a small rural community. Strange things were happening to Amber, and her family were worried. Amber's brother JD asked Wade Jenkins to go undercover to protect Amber without her know he is involved. However, helping JD would change Wade and Amber's live forever. The readers of Into the Fire will continue to follow Wade Jenkins and Amber Burke to find out what happens.

Into the Fire is the second book I have read of Catherine Sue Morgan. Like the first book in the seeking sanctuary series, it was an enjoyable book to read. I love Catherine Sue Morgan portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout this book. Into the Fire is well written and researched by Catherine Sue Morgan. I like the way Catherine Sue Morgan describes the settings of Into the Fire that allowed me to imagine I am part of the plot.

The readers of Into the Fire will learn about the role of domestic violence workers in communities. Also, the readers of Into the Fire will learn about the consequences of childhood trauma.

I recommend this book.

Into the Fire by Catherine Sue Morgan
Seeking Sanctuary Series Book Two
Amber Burke wants to help other women like she was once helped. So, here she is in the small town of Oak Hill, Oklahoma doing just that. Only someone's husband or boyfriend isn't happy that she's helping women escape the violence and they are trying to run her out of town...or worse.

Wade Jenkins owes his life to JD Burke, or so he was told. He didn't remember much after the helicopter crash in the war. When he finally meets him face to face and offers his help if ever needed—JD takes the offer immediately. Looks like he has a new mission before he moves on.

Great suspense story along with the romance. The author does a good job of keeping the reader guessing as to who the villain or villains are.

A Page-Turner!! I really, really enjoyed this story! It was edge of your seat exciting and I was pleasantly surprised at who the villain was. I usually am able to guess the villain early in the story but not this time. I LOVED it!! I was really disappointed to notice that there are no more books in this series. It seems nothing has been published since this book in 2018. I would have really liked to read Kristen and Meaghan’s stories.

I would like to add a warning for anyone who comes from or is in an abusive relationship, this story could be a trigger for you.

I'm back again with another Catherine Sue Morgan book, and I have to say that this one was just as good--if not better--than the first one! I thought I learned all I had about domestic violence and all the processes involved with helping get women out, but this story was even more enlightening. It's interesting seeing this topic being explored from different perspectives. My heart goes to out anyone who has ever been a victim of domestic violence, or is still suffering and trying to find a way out.

This author did a terrific job with infusing romantic elements along with the suspense and danger. The story was so engaging, and I was definitely on the edge of my seat waiting to see how events would unfold. I adored Wade and Amber together. I loved how Wade didn't back down from Amber's little feisty attitude when it came to helping her or protecting her from danger, yet still allowed her to control or make her own decisions.

And what's with the men in this small town though? Seems like a big percentage of them took the same "let me beat in my woman" seminar and really needed a swift kick in the @$$e$!!😒

Wow! Such a powerful book! Full of excellent advice for everyone from how to escape from a bad relationship to how to protect yourself! Everyone deals with situations like this either in their lives or of a friend or loved one! This is an awesome example of when and how to get help! After meeting they enter into an exciting adventure full of unexpected danger, unpredictable evil, and still find the time and energy to help and protect others! In the meantime they have to deal with their own past if they have a chance to love and accept each other! A fantastic, entertaining, and awesome story!

Into the Fire is even better than the first in the series Out of Hiding.

I really enjoyed this book. I am going to have to thank my Mom for getting herself and my siblings and myself out of what could have been a very dangerous situation. She had the good sense to leave an abusive husband. This book made me see episodes of my childhood differently. I have some of Wade's PTSD. But mine is for a different reason. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever been hurt, either by a parent or a spouse.

Another Page-Turner

It's hard to believe this is only Catherine's third book. I've read a lot of books by authors with many more publications to their credit that weren't half as good. Her characters are real, flawed, heroic and totally believable. I was hooked after the first book in this series, and I can't wait for the next one.

Life On the EDGE

This book gives insight into the woes of domestic violence. The author has crafted a story here which sheds light on the offender, the victims and those who assist the victim, with a romance thrown in. Great story and great read.

That was really good. The reality of the story is really sad, but is an extremely important story to tell. I could not even guess the bad guy.
