The daughters of a god find themselves having to meet an obligation they didn’t count on. They have been pledged to marry the Princes of Hell. Hell hath no fury like a goddess forced to marry a prince of the Underworld. The Kingdoms of Hell Saga is just starting.

Imagine this, you’re the daughter of Alric, a god who quite unwisely lost a battle to the King of the Underworld. Now, the terms of agreement that your father has to yield to so that he isn’t banished forever is to give your hand in marriage to one of the sons of the Underworld.

This is Irina’s fate.

She and her six sisters—some are half-sisters, really, but who’s counting, when parentage involves gods and mortals?—have been promised to the sons of Hell. Literally.

The one that Irina’s promised to?

The sharp-tongued, brutally honest Ezra, the Prince of Envy, who loves creating drama among the mortals.

Irina has her own battles to deal with, the darker side of herself that’s more like a father she doesn’t want to emulate. A struggle she wishes she didn’t have to face as often as she does.

How do you make nice with a Prince of Hell? You don’t.

Until you see something about him that you like. Kind of. A little bit. Until you try to save his life from the darkness that threatens to consume it.

Beware: Unputdownable stories of love and redemption can be found in this series of swicked action-packed fantasy with gods, goddesses, demons, hellhounds, and all the accoutrement one expects to find in the Underworld.

“You are my daughter. My blood runs in your veins. One day, you will come to understand that you are exactly like me. One day, you will finally see the truth of who you are” (51).

After causing and failing the Civil War, Alric’s punishments spread to his six daughters. They all are given charge of each human kingdom in Dor’Klens to be closely watched by the King of the Underworld, Jaspen. All is going smoothly for Irina watching over the inhabitants of Makaria until summoned to see her father. Upon reuniting, there is one last condition in Alric’s punishments. Each of his children must marry Jaspen’s sons within a year. While living in the Underworld, how will she handle her conflicting ideologies with the Prince of Envy on her arm?

“Those lying blue eyes. So much deceit and I’d been too blind to see it” (121).

One of thousands of stories out there that personify and romanticize the seven deadly sins. Reminds me of an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. What sets it apart from the rest? For myself, there is much more going on besides the romance. There are issues with the outer brim, Piper and Lloyd expectating a child after multiple miscarriages, Jaspen’s own guilt from the war, and what Alric is conjuring up. The romance lingers in and out as opposed to being the main focal point. It comes off as multi-dimensional and realistic as much as possible while being set in a fictitious fantasy world. Add on top of that a dual POVs, makes it all the better. There is no guessing what the other one truly thinks about a situation because you get it in writing.

“Irina was just like me, except where I hid my pain with anger and sharp-tongued comments, she used her kindness and compassion, her sense of duty, to hide what she felt deep inside” (85).

As different as they both proclaim to be, is how similar these characters really are. Both are sharp tongued, fiery and compassionate deep down. Irina is dealing with the possibility of her becoming like her father which pushes her to do more good acts to compensate. In reality, it's only an idea implanted by her father to control her when out of arm's reach. Meanwhile, Ezra is still coping with losing Cora and his friends during the war. This PTSD runs rampant through him permeating their relationship from the beginning. It was nice to see little glimpses of hopefulness Ezra had with the partnership. When his ties to the final battle are finally reconciled, is when their romance really begins. It's sweet and protective without being possessive. Bishop is my favorite character. The humble servant/best friend who has no problem telling Ezra how it is without fear of repercussions. Gleam Eyes is a close second favorite.

“Then we were gone, back to the realm of the gods, which burned just as badly as the villages we left seconds ago. I fell to my knees, and then I was falling…” (24).

I would have liked to see more interaction with Irina’s siblings. It’s understandable that they don’t have constant communication considered they are all watchers of different kingdoms. After everything Irina endured, I would think one of them would want to check in on her. There are minimal examples of grammatical specifically sentence structure found throughout. I rather enjoyed this and wondering how the other sisters will endure their transitions into marriage compared to Irina. A great and quick paced fantasy light romance novel filled with adventure.

There were some minor grammatical and spelling errors, sentences that didn’t quite make sense, throughout and there was a little confusion on what exactly was going on with the plot, but otherwise it was a good interesting read with a world I want to read more of.
There were somethings, secrets, mentioned but never really revealed. Ezra said he had many secrets but you never really ever found them out, except for the lost love part we eventually got an answer to that.
And then the villain was someone not even introduced until near the end. Sure he said he’s lost friends in the war but no one was specifically named until later which felt like a lack of foreshadowing on the author’s part.
But otherwise it was an interesting start to a story series that has sparked my interest.

“Envy”, first in the 'Kingdoms of Hell' series, sees the first of six daughters of a god preparing to marry one of the six princes of Hell.
They're all very pre-arranged marriages and if the reactions of Irina and Ezra are typical it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Irina is all about helping people and spreading cheer through her kingdom, while Ezra is a gloomy type with a massive chip on his shoulder.
His initial antipathy towards her is gradually eroded but her seemingly placid nature annoys him no end.
But all is not as is seems to be and Irina's true nature gradually emerges.
It's a rather sweet love story with a silly plot tacked on.

Can you believe this is a love story?

Yes this book is actually a love story with all the mystery, intrigue, and a little blood and gore of an UnderWorld Prince story. The lovely demiGod comes to marry the prince, as an Honor Wedding. Her father started the War and was a traitor. His father was the King God of the Underworld. There is so much hate from the war, so much developing hate to love between the Prince and the Demi, add some blood and gore for a well balanced book. I couldn't stop reading this action packed love story. Excellent

Not my cup of tea

I thought the plot was okay. However I was just not into this book. I thought the main characters, Ezra and Irina , romantic involvement towards each other was just a fizzle; there was no spark and no passion between them. I don’t feel the need to continue reading this series.

Very sweet romance story. I was about 60% through by the time I realized that this was a book marketed to Teen/Young Adult! LOL

This is a sweet love story with zero spice if you want to refer this to your teenage daughter. Just know that they do share a bed (no sexy stuff) and it contains quite a bit of violence (including decapitations).

Happy reading!
