Sometimes it is important to remember what a short story can be. Many of us are trained to avoid the ordinary and include deep meanings in our stories. Sometimes the meaning can be so deep that the stories defy understanding.

WHERE IT’S A LITTLE WARMER by John D. Nesbitt reminds us old-fashioned stories about ordinary people and the events in their lives can also have meaning. And because the meaning is not so hidden it could bring warmth, smiles, or understanding to the reader.

WHERE IT’S A LITTLE WARMER is a simple story of a young man learning to be a man. As most of us know, that is seldom an easy journey. For many of us, if we are lucky, there is a time when we meet a member of the opposite sex and we think maybe, just maybe, there is hope in the world.

So it is with Scott Brennan. He starts his job on a ranch, goes for a hunt, and meets a girl. None of it is easy. But he will learn.

Just as we learned.

That may be the meaning of this story.

Nothing wrong with that.
