This was one good retelling of Rapunzel! I think this one is closest to the original story from all the books I read in that series. Danae (Rapunzel's name) is a light-bringer; Zach is a dark-bringer. They were foretold by prophecy so there will be a lot of sparks. I hope those stories will be getting better and better!
Danae has been imprisoned in an isolated tower since she was old enough to walk. Her mother insists that it’s because the world is far too dangerous for a precious light-bringer, but Danae yearns to fully experience life and the world beyond her gilded cage of a home. When a disgraced dark-bringer stumbles across her tower, by accident, their powers combine to light a fire within her heart and soul, and to illuminate the tangled web of lies that her captor has spun. It doesn’t take long for Danae to learn that while her powers can renew hearts and heal the wounded, they can do nothing to erase the sting of the ultimate betrayal.
Once again, J. E. Taylor has managed to take a beloved fairytale and make it wholly her own, while still staying true to the original. The story is incredibly well written and after I started reading, last night, I didn’t even want to put it down to go to sleep. I really loved Danae and Zach as they’re the perfect complement to each other. Their strengths and weaknesses work well together, as does their overall personalities. And I found Danae’s mother to be the perfect villain for this story, and especially liked that you didn’t just hear the bad things she’s done, but also the good things she’d done, even if you weren’t completely sure that her motives were entirely pure. I thought Danae’s willingness to forgive really said a lot of good things about who she is, as a person. All in all, I really loved this retelling of the Rapunzel story and am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was a fun re-imagining of the Rapunzel fairy tale! The starts as the original does, Danae (Rapunzel), has been trapped in a tower for her "safety" by her "mother". Along comes a mysterious stranger, who makes her heart and desires soar, and makes her question why she's in the tower. I liked the magical connection between Danae and Zach, that was an interesting scenario. They have some heat, and are cute together. I liked all of the scenarios that were present in this story, but I do think this story lacked depth and was just scratching the surface. This could've been super amazing, but just fell into the really like category for me. It's still really enjoyable, and I love fairy tale re-imaginings, so I'll definitely keep reading this series!
It is short, cursory. Things i could not handle: the heroine’s desire not to kill people who are literally trying to rape her, have murdered her parents, kidnapped her and imprisoned her for 20 years....uh, no; the simplistic light dark bringer business with no magical explanation; and very thin to non existent world building.
I really liked her Red story but this and the other book of her’s I have read have not impressed me and it is very disappointing especially since the books are no longer in kindle unlimited. I’m a lot pickier about the quality of what I read when I am paying $3.99 for a short story
I’m sad because the art on this is lovely, but I wish as much care was put into the content.

I received an arc to read and give my honest review. Thank you. I liked tangled it is my second in the series I know, out of order, but they are all stand alone and don’t have to be read in order. The beginning is the traditional repunzel story but the names have been changed to protect the innocent lol. I had the same problem with this one that I had with Red , which just may be Ms. Taylor’s style but insta love why must it always be insta love. Ok rant over in short very cute short read will definitely be reading more in the series.
What a wonderful and intriguing retelling of Rapuntzel. Danae wishes to experience the world, instead of being locked up in a tower, because her Mother thinks it’s safer. Can’t get enough of these retellings. Amazing author.
