"Stella?" he said. "Yes sir," her sultry voice answered promptly. "Please come in," he ordered. Fred heard the knob turn and immediately lowered his gaze and pretended to be absorbed in some kind of report. But as the beautiful young woman walked towards the desk, he couldn't prevent his eyes from darting up. He looked at her fleetingly, but in that quick glance he sized her up instantly. He had that knack with women, and knew that the pictures he had been salivating over were nothing but paper when the real flesh walked in front of him. Fred had always made a point of being particularly cautious and courteous with Stella because the minute he saw her, he was convinced that she was destined to be something better than just an ordinary lay. He had plans for her, and right now he did not want an imprudent look to make her suspicious, so he kept his eyes to himself. "Good morning, sir," Stella said cheerfully. "Good morning, Stella. Did you see my overnight bag and my attache case on your desk?" "Yes, sir, and they are already in the limousine." "Did you call the airport and find out when the flight is scheduled for us?" he asked, for the first time mentioning the two of them as 'us'. "The flight leaves in an hour and a half, and the pilot is your friend Jonas," she said happy she could add that little bit of information. She was a good and efficient secretary, and since she had been around, a lot of trimming of useless paperwork had been done. She was always on time, never missed a day, and kept her work up to date. But she also knew that to be a good right-hand assistant, the human touch was sometimes more important than to work like a computer. So she made a point of keeping the atmosphere friendly and insisted she be called by her first name instead of the usual office routine thing of Miss Swanson. It had gone well with her boss and she liked him. Stella admired him for the way he handled the business side of things, so pleasant and friendly, even in the roughest days……….
