On his return journey from a business meeting, Alan Reed finds himself stranded at the roadside. Seeking refuge for the night, he finds himself being chased by a fierce predator. After fleeing to the safety of a guest house, he becomes trapped inside of the house all alone. Upon exploring the rooms of the house, he soon realises that the house is not what it seems. The house knows his deepest darkest secrets and regrets, and he must face up to the events of his past if he is to ever find his way back home. Alan must discover the secrets of Grimfall to find redemption, but he soon discovers that he is not in the house alone after all.

Exit 12 from the M3 to the A303 towards Andover....Exit 12 is a bloody clever novel set in the 24 series and intricately linked. Alan Reed, a business with a humdrum life in his car driving back towards Andover, it’s evening, it’s dark, it’s raining and Alan is tired... a strange noise under the car, it gets worse and eventually Alan and his car are stranded off the road on a dark evening. Alan decides to leave and walk towards a strange village signposted ahead called ‘Grimfall’.
What Alan finds in Grimfall is a beast that is tracking him and he seeks shelter in a seemingly deserted guesthouse, the following night turns into a nightmare as each room he visits turns into an enactment of part of his life, the bad and the awful confront him.
I absolutely loved Exit 12, bought it and literally read it in the same day, I couldn’t put it down. Written like some horrific, modern day Ebeneezer Scrooge, Alan Reed is confronted by all of his bad deeds in one night and has to choose an ultimate end or sacrifice.....
Martin McGregor just gets better and better, an author to watch! Highly recommended.
