"再遇到初恋,是八九年后,在高速路加油站短暂休息,就这么看着他从超市走出来。
我看着他,不太敢相信,试着问,你还记得我是谁吗。他掂着手里的矿泉水瓶,看着我,挺平静地说,记得,化成灰我都记得你。"
"It is eight or nine years for her to meet her first love again. In the gas station of highway, she sees him walking from the grocery store.

She looks at him, not believing what she sees and asks, ""Do you still remember me?"" He looks at her, with a bottle of mineral water in his hand, and says peacefully, ""Yes, even if you became ashes.""

"The journey of life is shadowy and hard to tread, but press on and be honed with each step down its path"

This was in a way a salute to your homeland and also to them heroes that really do give their lives for us. If you're patriotic this would really resonate with you. This is among the amazing books of the Zhi Chi series that I have truly started to like of Mo Bao Fei Bao's but this book really managed to tug my heart strings. Not in the same way The Healing Sunshine did but in anther but equally heart wrenching way. Here it was not for the couple and the romance they went through but for the men who constantly give their lives to protect us and our lives. What is the point of all this? Why do people wage wars? Does it make any sense killing fellow human beings? And for what even do we fight? So many thoughts ran through my head whilst reading this one. Many pushing and straining at my mind constantly that despite my want to finish the book I took few days between reading it not to get completely affected by this.

The romance itself is not the base of the story but a reconciliation. Here we find the male protagonist back to the certain cold demeanor but not with the cliche he-is-a-genius-in-every-aspect. One thing that really attracts me to MBFB's novels are how all of them are have realistic characters, Each character has his own traits and they act selfishly at times and takes not the best decisions out there. The realistic aspect of this actually what really managed to catch my attention mostly.

Some of the best scenes for me was in the last epilogue. Through those letters we finally get to see the true feelings of each other and that was actually the turning point of the story for me. In most of her we rarely get to see the feelings of the male protaganists and when we do it's only slightly bt here we really did get to see it and in way it was heart wrenching. Lu Chen really did suffer even if he did not show it, his heart was in pieces and he endured it for 11 years and thankfully he managed to be fruitful in the end.

"Yes I remember you. Even if I were to turn to ashes, I would still remember you"

"Gu Xiao, if I, the man that I am, were to become ashes, then even in those ashes would there be your name."

"Even though so many years have passed, I still believe that you and I never broke up. In my heart you are my girl, that girl whom I kissed and held but never got to completely make mine"

"Lu Chen, you must come back. This place is our hometown. My young man, the young man who forever can not depart from my memories. Lu chen I will wait for you to return"

What really touched me were these words. But mostly at the end how the characters not only healed our souls but also our beloved author's.

"Lu Chen, my young man. As I look back on this half lifetime of mine, thank you"

A beautiful and patriotic story, in the end would leave us with happy tears. They deserve this happiness, the happiness to hold each other and keep their family together.

I started reading this book years ago but never got to finish it due to an incomplete translation. Thankfully, I recently found the full translated ebook and was able to reread it.

I’m really fond of the main characters, and I’m so happy they ended up together—they feel so real. That said, I did skim through the second half because the pacing felt a bit slow.
