Series: Highland Pride #3 Publication Date: 6/25/18
I was looking forward to a really good read when I started this book – well – it was MORE! It was a wonderful read. The characters were compelling, the story was interesting and action-packed – and – well – there were Highlanders. I believe this is only the third book by this author, but you’d never know it. I’ve read some seasoned authors with many, many books under their belt whose stories don’t flow as seamlessly as these do. You feel as if you are right there in the midst of the turmoil between the Royalists and the Covenanters. The suspense is thick in the air and danger is everywhere. You can feel it, smell it and taste it.
Kirstie Cameron has lived away from her beloved home, Kentillie, for three years now. Not because she wanted to, but because she couldn’t live with the pain of staying. Three years ago, at age seventeen, she finally found the courage to tell the man she loved with all of her heart that she loved him. She hoped he returned her love because she wanted a future with him. She loved him – she’d always loved him and she always would. Then, he ripped out her heart and stepped on it. He told her that they could never be because he saw her as a sister. A SISTER! So, Kirstie has spent the last three years living with her best friend, Blair MacNab at the MacNab stronghold.
Alan MacKenzie has never considered himself a MacKenzie because that clan shunned his family, became Covenanters, and abandoned his mother to be murdered by his father. No, he was a Cameron in heart and soul. The Cameron’s had taken him in when his mother was murdered and his father fled when Alan was only eleven. The Cameron’s loved him, nurtured him and treated him as one of their own. He’d never shame or betray them. So, what was he to do when the love of his life, the woman he wasn’t good enough for, declared her love for him? He couldn’t tell her that he loved her in return because he might have his father’s madness. So, he told her that she was like a sister to him and that was all it would ever be. Then, she went away to live somewhere else and he never knew why. [*smiles* Well, maybe he wasn’t the sharpest tack in the pack]
This is the third book in the series, so we know all about the plots of the Covenanters against the Royalists. This plot is a diabolical one – get rid of all of the existing Royalist lairds and convert their clans by force, marriage or whatever other means they had. The Camerons are aware of the plot to kill them and the other Lairds at an upcoming meeting of the clans, so they have come up with a plan to foil the plot and get rid of the Covenanters – or as many of them as they can. They’ll have Alan reclaim his MacKenzie name and pretend to have broken with the Camerons by converting to Presbyterian. He’ll infiltrate the Covenanters and relay all of the plans to the Camerons.
Kirstie has also gotten wind of the plot to murder her brothers and she plans to uncover the plot and stop it. So, she attends the Clan meeting with the MacNabs and begins her flirtation with all of the Covenanters, hoping to learn their secrets.
Imagine the shock when Alan and Kirstie see each other – and Alan is a Covenanter. Kirstie can’t believe that – there is something off about that but she doesn’t have time to worry about that. She’s busy trying to uncover the plot, search bedrooms at the castle and fight off the amorous advances of all of the Covenanter men.
It is exciting to see Kirstie and Alan dancing around each other – trying to fight their attraction and still work, separately, of course, to foil the plot. Alan finds it hard to concentrate on what he has to do because he’s always protecting Kirstie from some mishap or another.
One thing I did question though – at one point, Kirstie is in a bit of a bother. She needs to escape the bonds on her arms – tied above her elbows I think. She has to wriggle around and do some contortions in order to get to her dagger strapped to her thigh. A resourceful girl, right? Well – there was a very long, sharp sword laying on the floor near where she stood. She could have used that much easier than trying to get to the dagger and then get it positioned to cut the twine. Just a thought.
The only bad thing about the book is that it ended and now I have to wait for the next one! I wonder who will be next. Maybe Finlay and Blair will get their own book – maybe it will be Kirstie’s brother Malcolm. I can hardly wait to find out! I hope you’ll read and enjoy this wonderful book as much as I did!
"I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋💋 This is an awesome book . What can I say about the main characters . Alan is Scrumptious, he’s brave , thoughtful , loving and devoted. Kirstie is strong , feisty, stubborn and in love for years with Alan . Together the one thing that means more to them than each other is family and the Clan . As relationships and emotions are stretched to breaking point is it possible these two will get to the end of the book unscathed . Lori has written another hit , I wish I could give more than five stars it definitely deserves it . A fantastic book that hooks you at page one and keeps you dangling right to the end . I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to submit a review
Alan Mackenzie can't believe it when his Laird's sister takes on a crazy mission that will get her close to every male in a rival clan, in the hopes of uncovering who's behind the plot to kill her brothers as she has heard whispered in the stables one night. Hemay not be good enough for Kristie, but he'll be damned if anyone else touches her. He's undercover as well, and one false move could betray them both.
Krisite Cameron's brothers are in danger, and if she has to flirt with the enemy to save them, she will. But her plans are hindered when the annoyingly handsome Alan Mackenzie refuses to leave her alone. Every time she turns around he's there. He broke her heart years ago, and now he's working with the other side. She'll never forgive him if he foils her plans. But Lord in heaven she cannot deny the attraction between them.
He can't seem to stay away and neither can she. Could this temptation get them killed? Wow what can I say about this book Alan is to die for and Kristine is brave and loyal.
Lori Ann Bailey has written another amazing book that will grab you hook line and sincker. This is one talented lady and she knows exactly what we readers want. If I could give you more then 5 stars I would.
Covenanters and Royalists 3.5* A meeting is about to happen in Edinburgh and at it’s heart is the matter of religion. This story is a hotbed of intrigue and treachery, plus a heroine whose loyalty to her religion and clan leads her into danger. Kirstie overhears a plot to murder her brothers but neither knows the details nor the identity of the plotters and so rather than inform her kin of the danger, she decides to snoop and cosy up to the enemy in order to gain information. Luckily for all concerned, her brothers had already got wind of the plot and had inserted a spy (one Alan Mackenzie/Cameron) into the mix. This was an easy read but I must admit I did want to shake Kirstie towards the end as her common sense was sadly lacking. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Overall, this book had an intriguing plot, and I wanted to see Alan and Kirstie get a second chance at happiness together. Kirstie was so young, insecure, and naive when they first met and separated. I think she benefited from the time apart to grow up physically and emotionally. She may have felt alone after departing but realistically she was surrounded by people who cared about her, and they gave her a sense of purpose.
This couple’s inner longing and self denial based on knucklehead notions deeply rooted in the past did have me cheering them on from the get on. I found it sweet how others around them could clearly see what they could not. Meaning, they were destined for one another.
At times, however, I started to feel the conspiracy plot was unfolding at a snail’s pace and the back and forth hand wringing somewhat exhausting. Even as a lover of relationship angst, I found myself growing impatient to see events put into motion so this couple could concentrate on their future together, especially after mid-way into when they finally caved into temptation and were intimate. For some time, you kept waiting for the proverbial other foot to fall due to all the talk and fear about what was sure to happen. Pulling and then pushing each other away several times added to the conflict.
Perhaps it’s just because my avid romantic at heart doesn’t like to see lecherous, potentially dangerous other men pawing at and vying for the attention of the leading lady, who has to pretend to be interested, while the hero has to stand by and watch it occur right under his nose that started to get to me. The fact Kirstie at one point seems to have given up on Alan enough she starts thinking about finding a suitable husband rankled my feathers, too.
Kirstie not protecting Blair, her best friend who has always had her back, from a man that she suspected wasn’t what he appeared did not sit well with me. Sure, the first time Kirstie couldn’t have stopped what happened. But, the second time I expected her to have done whatever it took to keep that monster’s claws off her bestie. Her sisterhood card took a big hit with me for not thinking quick on her feet and coming up with a better excuse to keep Blair with her. I’m not sure I will read Blair’s full story if it is written in the future. It was troubling to know another sweet, good guy friend of the family is in love with Blair and knows what happened.
So I’m a little confused on how to rate this book, folks. The synopsis sums up the storyline well. You pretty much get what is promised. There are a couple scenes where the heroine is roughed up, one in which is a disturbing, attempted rape occurs. Alan actually does end up more than once coming to Kirstie’s rescue in one way or another. At times when the odds were definitely against him. He does have the strength of character and muscle to be her alpha protector when needed. It just took awhile for this big lug to realize he needed to rescue her heart, as well, and that he alone determines his own future, not someone else’s past transgressions.

I have to sigh as I turn the last page of another amazing story by Lori Ann Bailey. Coming back to reality from 1643 Scotland is a definite shock to my system. Yes, I felt like I was there with the wonderful prose and descriptions by the author. It is a story of many facets with a struggle for domination between the Royalists and the Covenanters. Kirstie Cameron of Kentillie has lived away from home for three years with her friend Blair MacNab, with the MacNab clan. You see, she had her heart crushed by Alan MacKenzie, whom she had practically grown up with, when she told him of her love and he did not return those feelings. So when meetings are arranged at McNab between the two factions, Kirstie's brothers and Alan came to participate. Alan really considered himself a Cameron because their clan had become Covenanters and his parents were gone. He was taken in and raised by the Camerons, who are Royalist and he owed all his loyalty to them. He tried to think of Kirstie as a sister, but sometimes feelings have a way of overpowering the mind. Now thrown back together in a very tense situation, can they come together and declare the love they have for each other? This story has so many parts. Secrets, plots to murder and people not always being as they appear. The tension and emotions between Kirstie and Alan flew off the pages and kept me hoping for the best. Such a great story that adds another chapter to the Highland Pride series and only leaves you wanting more!!!
Highland Temptation (Highland Pride #3) by Lori Ann Bailey ...Only 5 stars..are you kidding.. this book kept me on pins and needles... Another great one thanks #NetGalley and Lori... Alan(Mackenzie) Cameron is my latest BBF...he has loved Kirstie forever and is afraid his family faults make him unworthy.. Kirstie Cameron ( Laird Cameron only sister) who has always loved Alan and leaves home when she thinks he rejects her. The Coventanter's are plotting and The Cameron'd and the Royalists have to stop then. The intrigue, danger, heart ache, laughter, tears and steamy love all lead to a HEA for Alan and Kirstie...but I know that there has to be mere coming...
I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
Alan had broken Kirstie’s heart years ago and they finally see each other again. They’re both on a mission and on opposite sides of a conflict. They’re both in a very dangerous situation. This doesn’t stop Alan from taking risks to protect her or from Kirstie reaching out to him. The story has a lot of action and there’s plenty of conflict. I loved the historical setting of this story and the interleaving of the politics of the time.
This book can be read as a standalone even though it’s part of a series.
I am reviewing this book as an ARC without compensation.
Kirstie and Alan make for a fiery couple. The story is filled with political and religious intrigue. Clans are fighting to make dynastic growth the old fashioned way through marriage alliances. Highland stories are never boring and this one certainly is not. It shows great promise for what will happen next perhaps to Finlay and Blair.
Fantastic book, our author has most definitely not disappointed us, and given us another brilliant jaunt into the age of the Lairds and Maids of the past, I Ken a few folk who willnea want to miss it. (I have Scottish heritage).
This book has everything in a historical romance and more, from love thought forbidden, heartbreak, mystery, adventure and some naughtiness, our Hero and his maid definitely deserve their Happy Ever After and I highly recommend any who love historical romance or romance in general to try it.
Kirstie Cameron is trying to save her brothers. She overheard a plot by the Covenanters to kill any Royalist lairds that would not convert and is now trying to find out what their plan is so she can save them. She flirts with several know Covenanters and thinks she is making progress, but her plans are thrown into disarray when Alan MacKenzie arrives.
Kirstie is not sure if she can trust Alan, with her secrets or her heart. Alan grew up with her clan and she loved him as only a young girl can. When she was 17, she told him of her feelings and kissed him, but he told her the kiss was a mistake and she is like a sister to him. She left shortly thereafter to live with her McNab cousins and hasn't seen him for 3 long years.
Alan is also on a mission for the Camerons, he is pretending to have had a falling out Lachlan and cozies up to the Covenanters. But he can't help feeling protective of Kirstie - a woman he has loved, but has never felt worthy of.
These two are constantly thrown together - primarily because Kirstie seems to be a magnet for trouble and someone who makes a lot of impulsive (and very bad) decisions. More than once Alan had to rescue her from a dangerous situation. The old feelings are still there, but with the lives of her brothers on the line, now is not the time to explore what could be between them.
When a plan goes horribly wrong, will Alan be able to save her and get the chance to tell her the truth?
This was a well written, very fast paced story with a lot of action and intrigue. The secondary characters are interesting, the fight scenes exciting, the love scenes steamy, the history of the Covenanters & Royalists fascinating and the ending dramatic. But even with all that, I just didn't love the book, it was good, but it failed to grab me and I found Kirstie to be a bit annoying. Maybe if I had read the previous books in the series, I would have felt more invested in Kirstie and Alan and would have felt differently about this installment.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.*
One thing I absolutely love about being a NetGalley reader is the opportunity to discover new authors. Lori Ann Bailey is new to me; after reading this book, she now has a new fan. I was afraid I would be lost starting the series with book three, but it entirely stood on its own. The only bit of Scottish history I was familiar with was the period around Culloden (thanks, Outlander!), so the time of the Covenanters was totally new to me, and quite interesting.
Kirstie and Alan were friends years ago, and she was totally in love with him. When she was seemingly rejected, she left home to live with another clan. They are reunited at a large gathering where Covenanters were trying to get clans to convert from Catholic to Presbyterian. Kirstie believes there is a plot to kill her brother, and she is at the gathering attempting to find information to save her brothers. Then she runs into Alan, who is on the side of the Covenanters....or is he?
Thus follows a fast-paced story full of intrigue, action, dealing with the past, and very steamy romance. Alan and Kirstie are wonderful characters, though sometimes you want to smack some sense into one or both of them! This book is a Highland romance that is not to be missed. Set aside plenty of reading time because you won't want to put this one down.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Alan Mackenzie can’t believe it when his laird’s sister Kirstie takes on some foolhardy mission to try to uncover who’s behind the plot to kill her brothers. He may not be good enough for Kirstie, but he’ll be damned if anyone else touches her. But he’s undercover as well, and one false move could betray them both. Kirstie Cameron’s brothers Lachlan & Malcolm are in danger, and if she has to flirt with the enemy to save them, she will. But her plans are hindered when the annoyingly handsome Alan Mackenzie refuses to leave her alone. He broke her heart years ago, and now he’s turned traitor & is working with the other side. This is the third book in this brilliant series whilst this book could be read on its own why would you when all three books are awesome. It’s hard to believe that this is only the author’s third book it's so accomplished. I was drawn in from the first page & was totally hooked. It has everything, a swoon worthy hero, a feisty heroine, spies, intrigue & of course romance. If you love highlander stories then don’t miss out on a great read. I hope there are lots more books to follow, Malcolm deserves his HEA as do Blair & Finlay
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Highland Temptation by Lori Ann Bailey is book Three in the Highland Pride series. This is the story of Alan Mackenzie and Kirstie Cameron. I have read the previous books, but feel you can easily make this a standalone book. Alan didn't have a great childhood and due to that he was taken in by the Cameron's when he was around 11 years old. Alan, never felt he was good enough for the clan and worried about his past. So when a few years later Kirtie who now was 16 years old told him that she loved him he felt he had to turn her away and made it know to her that she felt like a sister to him hurting her so bad that she left Kentillie and went to live with her best friend Blair MacNab at the MacNab stronghold. Alan couldn't tell Kirstie that he loved her and thought more of her than that because he didn't feel worthy of her. But now she is back at trying to find the people that are out to her her brothers. Alan has put himself at the fore front of protecting her but will he be strong enough to keep his true feelings from coming out. Loved reading their story!
*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one elses*
Kristie has been in love with Alan for more years than she can count but his rejection broke her. Has distance healed her heart?
Alan has controlled his desire for Kristie for far too long. When the time comes, will he follow his heart or will his fears hold him back?
This book was written beautifully and flowed smoothly.
Kristie and Alan - the sizzling tension between these two was mind blowing. These two made me laugh; between her setting out to make him jealous and him getting all possessive and ticked off at all the male attention she was receiving. The intimate moments they shared captured their love and need for each other perfectly.
This was a great story and I enjoyed it beginning to end. The events towards the end had my heart racing; I’m surprised I’ve got any nails left with the way I was chewing on them lol.
Highland Temptation by Lori Ann Bailey is the third book in the Highland Pride series. This is a fascinating series of books written about the Cameron Clan. Kirstie Cameron is Lachlan Cameron’s (from book 1) only sister. This is her love story. Kirstie has been in love with her brother’s best friend Alan Mackenzie. But when she shared her heart with him, he brutally rejected her. Years later they meet again at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. “Warm, joking eyes from her past fixated on her as he held her so close she could feel the warmth that radiated from him. Soul-shattering embarrassment assailed her as a tremble of recognition rushed through her. And yet at the same time, she fought back the desire to sink into him. “Tis good to see ye, Kirstie.” Alan’s gaze softened to the sincere gray that reminded her of cool overcast evenings, of home, and for a moment, she thought she saw longing in their depths. But she’s been wrong before.” Kirstie’s heart comes close to being shattered when she is thrust into Alan’s company again. What can she do to protect herself? And when she discovers a plot to kill her brothers, what can she do to protect them? An amazing heart pounding story with romance, intrigue, betrayal, and sizzling love.
This was my first read of Lori Ann Bailey and I loved it! The book is filled with excitement and romance. I instantly fell for Alan and Kristie and really enjoyed the writing and story to their HEA! Highly recommend!
Whilst I have not read books in this Highland series, I did enjoy the characters and the storyline. This story follows Alan Mckenzie who has been attracted to Kirstie since he was adopted into the Cameron clan. However, he has spurned her attentions, believing himself unworthy of her. They find themselves thrown together when they are in Edinburgh, both working undercover. Neither of them realises the others plans but find themselves caught up in this dramatic tale. This story has all the ingredients: suspense and romance, thrown together with two headstrong characters. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
loved this last book in the Highland trilogy absorbs the atmosphere of the highlands in the 16 hundreds Alan Mckenzie was adopted into the Cameron clan when he was a child and had always yearned for the daughter of the clan Kirstie but never thought he would be able to wed her. Kirstie always loved him and thinking her feelings were not returned moved away to another clan to be with her best friend.
They are both in Edinburgh as the Catholics working undercover to find the leaders behind a plot to kill of the head of the clans. N either of them is aware the other one is working undercover
As the story unfolds ingtrigue, suspense, romance, and the plot makes for compelling reading
What a great read! Well-drawn characters, lots of plotting, intrigue, deception, and twists and turns in this one.
The only thing I would have liked would have been a little backstory in the beginning. Why was Kirstie trying to break into Argyll's room? Was she asked to do it? She seemed to simply decide that she was the only person who could help her brothers. The story was a bit confusing in the beginning.
Ultimately, of course, everything is revealed. The Covenanters are plotting to ensure all the Royalists are converted from Catholicism to Presbyterianism. The Camerons - Kirstie, Lachlan, Malcolm, Alan, etc. - are dedicated Catholics and refuse to convert. They discover a Covenanter plot to kill all who refuse to convert. In order to learn who is in charge of the plot, Alan goes undercover and infiltrates the Covenanters.
Kirstie knows nothing of Alan's plan and is confused watching him seemingly joining the other side. She's been in love with Alan her whole life and is crushed by the seeming betrayal.
Alan has also loved Kirstie for years and is determined to keep her safe. But can he? All the Camerons are in danger and he is only one man.
I was given an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is set in a very volatile time in Scottish history. Clans were set against each other because of religious differences. Alan Mackenzie has gone undercover to discover just what the plans are for the royalist clan chiefs who refuse to accept the religion being pushed on them by Parliament. Kirstie Cameron left her own clan to stay with a friend because the man she wanted didn't want her. Now she must face him again, but it looks like he is betraying her family. Murder is being planned, she must discover who is involved. An emotional and exciting story full of danger and nasty and nice characters. Our heroine has got a silly habit of not doing as the men in her life tell her to. That can be very dangerous. Our hero has spent his life battling the demons of his past. Can he put them to rest and accept what life now has to offer?? Great fun.
*I got this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
A very well written, highly erotical Highlander story that isn't like so many others. It's all about a a feisty young lady who is about to flirt with each and every man from another clan to find out who wants to kill her brothers.
A well written story. The characters aren't flat and no stereotyps, they are well developed and realistic even though we are in a very different century. It's about love and passion, about fear and about cruelty.
Kirstie will be anything to help save her family, even if it means flirting with the enemy. With tensions rising between 2 different religious factions, each side is willing to do anything within their power to win, even if it means murdering the other side.
Alan has broken from Kirstie's family to infiltrate the other side. Unfortunately his attraction to Kirstie may put his mission in jeopardy. When he learns that Kirstie is also trying to save her brothers, Alan must do what he can to keep her safe as well as not blow his cover.
Can Kirstie and Alan save the family that they both hold dearly and take a chance at their own HEA?
I really loved this story and I can't wait to see what Bailey comes up with next!
Alan Mackenzie can’t believe it when his laird’s sister takes on some foolhardy mission to get close to every male in a rival clan, in the hopes of uncovering who’s behind the plot to kill her brothers. He may not be good enough for Kirstie, but he’ll be damned if anyone else touches her. But he’s undercover as well, and one false move could betray them both.
Kirstie Cameron’s brothers are in danger, and if she has to flirt with the enemy to save them, she will. But her plans are hindered when the annoyingly handsome Alan Mackenzie refuses to leave her alone. He broke her heart years ago, and now he’s working with the other side. She’ll never forgive him if he ruins her plans. But she can’t deny the attraction between them.
He can’t stay away. She can’t push him away. And the temptation could get them all killed.
Each book in the Highland Pride series is a STANDALONE story that can be enjoyed out of order.
My Thoughts: This book is written in one of my favorite genre and with an excellent and well thought out plot. Full of mystery, intrigue, humor, heartache and mixed in the discovery of a mutual love and attraction this third book by Lori Ann Bailey is a page turner and not to be missed. With the political and religious differences of the times you expect certain things in this story and you get that and more. Kirstie Cameron’s brothers are in danger and she decides instead of telling them she will be the one to save them by getting close to the enemy. Alan Mackenzie can not believe that Kirstie is putting herself in danger. He has loved the lass for most of his life and will not allow anyone else to touch her even if he is deemed not good enough for her. How will this well laid plot play out and will Kirstie and Alan find their Happily Ever After? I gave this enticing and intriguing book 4.9 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization. The romance and intimacy is steaming hot so I gave it 4 of 5 flames for heat. I have read and enjoyed all three of the books in this series. They all can be read as standalone titles and in any order but be advised that there are tie in characters and I think they are enjoyed more if read in order. I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

This is the third book in Lori Ann Bailey’s riveting “Highland Pride” series. “Celtic Barb’s Tartan Book Review Blog”
Edinburgh Castle, Scotland June 1643
This book centers on turbulent times in Scotland which is about religion, faith, force and power. Now there were rumors that Catholic royalists, clan leaders are being murdered! The Catholic royalists, that didn't support Protestant Covenanters, are being murdered! Plus, there might be an execution name list of all the Royalist clan leaders to be terminated. Plus some have overheard Kirstie Cameron’s brothers are on the list, including her brother Lachlan, The Laird of Clan Cameron. Covenanters desire to support the English Parliament and their desire to take strength from King Charles. This was an English issue, but Scottish government declares every Scotsman to beat the King’s forces! On some level they dream of a unified Scotland.
Going undercover: Alan Mackenzie is shocked to learn his Lairds sister is trying to get close to all the men in the enemy clan, to find out information concerning her brothers. So he is trying to protect her without blowing his cover. As he is secretly working at espionage for Kirstie’s Laird brother. So he is acting as if he despises the family that raised him!Kirstie Cameron was trying to get information on who was attempting to murder her brothers. Yet she is in the enemy clan territory. Not only that, but Alan is the one man whom she was in love with. He had rejected her and who broke her heart years ago, which forced her to leave her families lands and clan. He still makes her heart tingle with butterflies in her stomach! Also, it is her Laird’s brother-former best friend. Kirstie doesn’t realize he too is undercover. Alan sees Kirstie is even more beautiful all grown up, than when he last saw her long ago. He might not be able to touch her but he’ll be damned if he let any of these murdering weasel Covenanters touch her! Even though she seems to be flirting with each and every one!
These two former would be lovers have a lot of baggage. In addition some big solid obstacles and dividers to remove. That is if they can ever open their hearts, trust, reconcile, and move forward and love again. As both have low self esteem issues.
He feels he carries the sins of his father, which caused the early death of his mother. He fears this could be Kirstie future if he was to wed her. She just felt so rejected, as she has never been comfortable in her own skin with big crowds of people. Usually stays in dark corners alone. Only animals especially horses does she feel comfortable and at peace with herself. So when the shy lass opens up to heartbreak, she exiles herself from family and the clan she loves! It is only the day after he broke her heart and rejected her.
As it has been years since they lived under the same roof. Is it too little too late, or can they ever reveal the truth and the real reasons for their past difficulties, dilemma, and complications? A fabulous summer read that historical romance readers don’t want to miss. It’s the third novel in her Highland Pride series. It can be read as a stand alone book as her previous books in this series. This phenomenal novel is so wonderfully incredible!
A second chance romance story with true historical facts. It has all the elements historical romance readers love! Emotional passionate love story, historical facts and issues between Royals and Covenanters. It is an exciting adventure, misunderstandings, complications, betrayal, threats, rejection, heartbreak, murdering schemes, rekindling love, passion, and so much more. The setting, plotting, dialogue characters are all absolutely superb! I was holding my breath in this twisting and turning trail, not knowing what could possibly happen next!
I highly recommend Highland Temptation by Lori Ann Bailey.
I received this book From Entangled publishers for a fair and honest review. I voluntarily agreed to read, review, blog and promote through netgalley. All words, ideas and thoughts are my own. . Highland Pride Series By Lori Ann Bailey
I absolutely loved this book. It's a great story that is well-written and some very interesting characters. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend to all historical fiction fans. It's definitely a must read romance with a touch of intrigue and thrill. Alan and Kirstie have known each other since childhood. But now that their feelings are changing it's best that they stay away from each other. Kirstie makes it clear that she doesn't think of Alan as one of her brothers. However, Alan seems to be having a hard time with that thought. He doesn't think that she would be happy with him. She deserves so much better than him. That's why Kirstie leaves home and stays away for a long time. Now they both are thrown together in the middle of a conspiracy. They need to figure out exactly what's going on before someone close to them gets hurts. Together they will face a danger and might not survive it, at least, now they can be honest about their feelings. If they do survive it then they can think about a life together. I think it's a great novel and I am glad I got the chance to read it. P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.
Action-packed tale of second-chance love amidst religious and political turmoil in the Highlands.
The third book in the Highland Pride series, Highland Temptation can be read as a standalone, but as is always the case with a family series, it’s best to read the previous books in order to meet the characters and gain more background of the overarching plot.
The story flows easily and the characters are well-defined. Kirstie and Alan are at the center of every situation and the growth of their love for each other developed naturally. The historical basis for the plot was researched carefully and it showed in the story.
I had some moments of discomfort with the amount of violence, but it’s probably consistent with the times. The romance between Kirstie and Alan is believable and their struggle to survive had me turning the pages until they get their happy ending.
Highland Temptation is an involving read and I’m thankful to Entangled for providing me with an advance copy to read and review.
By far my favorite book in this series. Kirstie is such a vibrant character, and so easy to relate to. She is voluptuous - not a stick figure with exaggerated "feminine wiles." She's imperfect - having a tendency to trip and stumble. She has awkward moments that are so endearing. I absolutely adored her.
As a big fan of Kirstie, even when he is exasperated with her, Alan Mackenzie also found a special place in my heart. He is a little overbearing at times, but again, in endearing ways. Both of them being determined to protect King and country made them immediately likable, noble people. The reader feels their frustration at trying to keep their activities to ferret out spies and threats a secret while wanting nothing more than to trust in one another.
I really loved this story. It was light-hearted and fun, yet emotional and intense at times, as well. Overall, "Highland Temptation" was the perfect weekend read. I highly recommend.
