The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1884 under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. It is used by Jehovah’s Witnesses to support their worldwide work, which includes publishing Bibles and Bible-based literature.
According to its charter, the corporation’s purposes are “religious, educational, and charitable,” in particular, to “preach and teach the gospel of God’s Kingdom under Christ Jesus.” Membership in the corporation is by invitation only and is not based on how much a person has donated. The corporation members and directors assist the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
This was a great book to read, especially day after day, because it helped me reflect on Jesus' good example and think more how to imitate him. It's funny how often Jesus would pop into my mind this last month. I loved it! But I will admit reading the last few chapters on how he died was heartbreaking...it's not like I didn't already know what happened...but it made me shed a few tears just remembering how poorly he was treated. Definitely five star book - amazing!
The fist step in being in a deep relationship with Jesus is by knowing Him. This book reveals the life of Jesus and what He has sacrificed for us sinners. Without being forced He came to Earth to show us the truth face of God and bring us salvation so that we live forever with Him in Heaven. My favorite biblical verse is Revelation 23:3-4:
"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
This right here is the reason for His sacrifice because He loved us so much so that in the end we will be with Him full of happiness and contained :) Jesus is truly the truth, the way and the life!
This is a chronological look at Jesus's life as revealed through the Bible. In doing so, it is not some dry analytical text. Rather it looks at how we can see the personality of Jesus revealed and how we can imitate him to a better degree. We examine how Jesus demonstrated himself to the perfect king for God's government thus helping us build faith in God's arrangements and way of handling matters. It really helps us reason on how Jesus treated people, what was important to him, and what he really taught.
I challenge you to find a more comprehensive study book of Jesus's life and ministry . This book brought the Bible's account of Jesus to life by providing historical content and details we may overlook ,especially not being from the region where Jesus walked. Read this book along with your Bible and watch the life of Christ become crystal clear. I've studied this book before ,but to read it for pleasure, especially during this season where many are reflecting on Jesus's sacrifice, was truly special. I'm so thankful for all that he and his Father have done for all mankind.
This book is an updated edition of The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived. I like that this version includes Bible citations, so that you don't have to take them at their word. I also like the maps and the index, and the illustrations that help you to picture each scene.
Another excellent feature is the notes on Jewish culture that really help to contextualize what's going on for readers who are neither historians nor Jews. Although these asides are present in the original edition, they are much better organized here, instead of awkwardly inserted mid-text.
My favorite thing, though (which is true about both editions), is that this book presents the life of Jesus in chronological order, and deciphers those idioms which don't have a one-to-one translation between Jesus's native language and mine, thus preserving their meaning.
I have never seen nor read nor heard Jesus's complete story, so some of these stories were brand-new to me! I really appreciated all the citations, then, because there are so many things I have never been taught. I have so much respect for the transparency of the publishers...Instead of twisting the Bible's words to fit their doctrines, they actually help you, showing you plainly where in the Bible this or that is taught, instead of proclaiming "IT'S A MYSTERY," and expecting you to just...accept that. Because they say so, that's why. If something sounds fake, there's no pushing you to swallow it on blind faith—just a simple defense: here it is, in plain English. Decide for yourself. Heck, compare Bibles if you think it was mistranslated or purposefully misconstrued.
The honesty is quite refreshing. I really enjoyed the no-bullshit approach; and the simple style of [English used in the] storytelling (because the Bible itself can be hard to read).
Great book, totally my favorite thus far. I'd had a hard time approaching the Gospels because reading the Bible itself can be daunting, but this really helped a lot, and I feel much more prepared to tackle the subject in the actual Bible now. What a good study aid!
Jesus, The Way, The Truth, The Life, explains about the life of Jesus very simply, making it much easier to understand than the Bible. I was surprised by how many new facts I learned. The book is beautifully illustrated. I’m so glad I read it.
What a wonderful read this was. A step by step account of the life of Jesus. Rather than a series of stories, or an accounting of his miracles, this is a publication that traces of the role of Jesus in God’s purpose. I loved the chart in the back of the book, “To Imitate Jesus, Be…” The artwork is beautiful and there are simple lessons in ways that we can display the fruitage of the spirit. I liked the book very much, but I still might prefer the older book, “The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived".
Good review of the 4 Gospels. This book was given to me by a friend. I am not a Witness, but still enjoyed it. Anything about Jesus' life is worth reading. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I thought there were several places where an interpretation has been made that is NOT in the actual New Testament.
Amazing book to study for the past 3 years! It really helps you to get to know who Jesus was as a person and come to know about all his wonderful qualities. Would totally recommend to anyone!
Jesus' earthly life... a little more in depth than "The Greatest Man"... and with a lot more special gems like charts on illustrations, prophecies, and qualities to imitate. Must read.
I loved this book so much! Everything is in chronological order. Not only that it has all references to where you can find the story in the Bible so you can read along in your own copy of the Bible. To read how Jesus expresses his love to all was so moving, you will need tissue. I highly recommend this book to all :)
To read a book detailing in chronological order the history of Jesus, the son of God, the most fascinating historical figure in the world, is absolutely life changing! I learned so much and was moved to re-evaluate how I'm living my life as a Christian. I mean since Jesus Christ was the founder of Christianity, I should strive to imitate him and his life and ways as is stated at 1 Peter 2:21. I mostly appreciated that he came to earth to tell and show the truth about Almighty God, who he is and what he stands for, and answered the age-old question of "what is the right way to worship God in order to gain his approval?"
Fantastic book! Made you see new stories you didn't realize. It also brought out illustrations in a new light that you would have never thought about! The audiobook for this was also very well done reading the paragraphs then the review questions. Overall very well written and easy to understand too.
Reread-Finished 2020 Amazing! Made me see Jesus in a different lights and analyze stories that I’ve heard in new ways also. The ending was such a great way of reflecting the entire story. You really delve in deep into the gospels.
