In the tragic aftermath of the clash with the Marauders, Luke has walked out. No one knows where he's gone, and no one knows if he'll be back. With only reminders of tragedy behind him, he sets off to fight his demons on his own terms, his first time alone in the ruins of America. Will he find solace he is looking for, or only more danger and death? Don't miss the gripping 5th episode of AMERICA FALLS
This series is starting to have that feel of the never-ending story and how can the author creatively keep it going but he DOES. This story takes a very organic detour from the main plotline of Isaac's big group and follows Luke on his solo trek after the death of his beloved wife after the standoff with the Marauders. If only he knew what was back home! UGH!!
Medbury uses a clever writing technique of starting us off in a clench; seemingly the demise of Luke to then bring us back to what led up to that point. Its a great way to lure the audience in and commit them to the rest of the story. It works. You're sitting there going "whhhaaaaattt!?!?, that can't be! What happened to Luke?!". And then you get the backstory.
I'm still undecided how successful this is in greater America Falls story longevity but its a good off-shoot from the main plot so it could almost be like a Book 4.5 for me.
Again, a few tears, and cheers and horrays in this one. Just starting book 6. Lets see where this goes now.

Although Scott Medbury's America Falls series may get a bit frustrating in some cases, I must admit that they are engrossing and will keep the reader riveted to each page. Luke, who is the main character in this segment of the series, as can be obviously ascertained by the novel's title, is a likeable young man with, in most cases, fortitude and virtue. If he sees the underdog in trouble, he will help out regardless of the consequences (think of chivalry and the Knights of the Round Table). Those are refreshing characteristics different than many of our modern characters.
As mentioned before, Mebury's novel is very entertaining, but it is not what one might consider mind probing literature. He tells a story well, and keeps the reader engaged. For books of that type in today's world of self-publishing, I believe it is some of the best on the market. I would say the only drawback I could find is that these books appear to have somewhat the same theme. We are introduced to some good guys or a good guy. Good guy meets a group of bad guys and in that group is a really really bad guy. Good guy tries to overcome bad guy through various means. It's a simple formula, but, I have to admit, quite effective.
Every review I’ve left for a book in this series has first included my thoughts on the abundance of sexism, gender stereotypes, and misogyny, and this book is no different.
At this point, I’m convinced this author is an incel. Lol. The way he writes women in third-person POV is terrible. It was bad when it was in first-person, but that can be blamed on the character who is narrating (even though all of his male characters seem to have the same thoughts about women). These are the author’s descriptions, and they are gross. Also, Luke ran away because his wife and kid (or so he thought) had just died, and he’s dancing with Becky with the good hair?! (Google it if you don’t get that reference) Then he’s talking about possibly coming back through to see Becky at a later date. Bro, what? That made me really not like Luke, which is funny because the author is always trying to push him onto the reader as some sort of great guy and hero. It was inauthentic and did the character a disservice.
The plot was good as was the pacing. The brotherhood is an interesting concept. The ending was pretty good. Again, this book would be 4 stars if it weren’t for the author’s terrible writing about women.

An atypical instalment of the America Falls series in that for the main part we are only following one of the main characters - Luke. He has left the group in light of his grief over the death of Brooke and their baby in the battle on the bridge. On his travels he discovers a new cult/group called the Brotherhood, who under the guise of God fearing people trying to help. In effect they are blood thirsty bullies running a protection racket and lord it over small communities with fear and intimidation. Needless to say as soon as someone stands up to them there response is wipe out the community for their lack of faith. Luke finds it hard not to get too involved in fighting the group but circumstances force his hand and he must summon all of his courage to try and not only survive but save the lives of those newly his friends who have stood up and said enough is enough.
I have read all 5 in this series. Cold chills on how close to events of today. NOKO and China scar the crap out of me because your plot could actually happen. The characters are well developed and the hero's are pure of heart. I am sadden that some lost their lives but it's the reality of the story that doesn't allow complete happy endings for all. I read all 5 in a week and a half and I am not happy to have to wait for book 6. You have captured my attention and I am a total fan of your writing. HURRY UP.....I NEED MORE.
1. Luke is trying to convince people to leave a town (they should definitely leave) because with every second they wait "our chances of getting away clean get less." GET LESS.
2. A religious order is on its way to kill the above-mentioned people and they drive a mack truck that plays Ride of the Valkyries. A bit...heavy handed, no? Not to mention the gas thing, in that 6 years on YOU WOULDN'T HAVE ANY."
After the battle at Manchester, one armed Luke leaves the group, distraught at the death of his English partner, Brooke. This book deals with his travels in New England, and his dealings with the organised groups he meets there. Continuing the story of the children, mostly now late teenagers and early twenties, in the dystopian USA post man made epidemic. Still a very good read.
Cliffhanger ending—after this number of novels in the series — REALLY! One more time and if it’s the same thing I am done, as in shut the stove off and move out of the house, done.
Sad because the writing shows the author can do better. Dystopian fiction and an exciting and entertaining one. Well read by a terrific male voice, well performed.
Another amazing book from the America Falls series and I loved it. It's an excellent book a real fast-paced page-turner. I have to admit that Luke is my all-time favourite and for him to love and then lose is heartbreaking. A fantastic book, a great author and impossible to put down.
Halfway through the series and I stopped to type out a note. "theyre grown up. Hardest part to believe is Luke loving coffee or beer. As a kid, I bet he never drank them and yet it was soooo good to find warm, skunky beer and stale instant coffee." It sounds like I'm not enjoying this series as much as I thought.
This story just keeps getting better as it progresses. I have preordered the next book. Anxiously awaiting the arrival.Well worth the time to catch up in the series..
A fast paced good story with wonderful characters and not the usual action. It's good to be different and I'm looking forward to the end of August for the next chapter. Well done!
Leaving the settlement heartbroken, Luke ventures out on his own. This is a fast moving, suspenseful story. I have really enjoyed the series. This story has quite a bit more violence and a few F bombs I wish the author had left out.
Definitely the best book in the series so far. Except for the "Toyota Corolla Truck", "Toyota Scion" & "Flight of the Valkyrie " rather than Ride of the Valkyrie. Not great research. But all in all, a decent read.
This one was pretty entertaining! Could have used a little more depth and would have loved to hear more about the landscape and abandoned homes. I was also surprised that the brotherhood sounded almost elderly in the audible.

Quick read, but generally disappointed in this book. It was too removed from the main storyline and felt like nothing but a setup plot. I didn’t learn anything new about Luke that hadn’t been alluded to before in the previous books. New characters introduced will certainly be helpful in the next.
Enjoying the series. Keeps me entertained for hours. This is one of those books where you watch young people accept responsibility for their country and their lives .
I'm really glad I downloaded the whole America Falls set to my Kindle instead of getting each book one by one. By the end of each, I was eager to begin the next!
